The death toll was rising...and not all the symptoms tallied with the plague...

A deadly contagion may have sent many of Rome’s wealthier citizens fleeing to the country, but for Claudia Seferius a plague is the least of her worries.

For she has “temporarily borrowed” 3,000 sesterces from local millionaire Sabbio Tullus. OK, so she’d had to break into his depository to get at it, but did he really need to set the army after her? Desperate to escape arrest, she seeks refuge in the beautiful spa resort of Atlantis.

Once there she meets the charming Cal, and a little flirting in tranquil surroundings seems an ideal way to pass the time. Except, within hours, Cal is dead. And he’s not the only one.

Pretty soon Claudia begins to wonder whether Atlantis isn’t far more dangerous than the disease-ridden streets she left behind...

This exciting Roman mystery is the 5th volume of the very likeable and cheeky Claudia Seferius series.
It's certainly a Roman murder mystery which is told with a lot of wit, and the storyline is also very well fabricated by the author.
Story-telling is of a very good quality, for the characters come all superbly to life within this mystery, and also the setting is just wonderful.
This story is set around the year 12 BC, and the tale is set after some short spells in disease-ridden Rome, mainly in the beautiful spa resort of Atlantis.
The tale itself involves of course Claudia, who after illegally "temporarily borrowing" three thousand sesterces from Sabbio Tullus, is forced to flee from the clutches of this same Tullus, and so she heads for the spa resort of Atlantis.
It's there that she meets the charming Cal at the lakeside surroundings, but a few hours after their meeting that same Cal is found dead.
What follows are more deaths and Claudia has to face these murders with apprehension, and so she has to use her wits and survival techniques, as well as some help from some mysterious male hero, to escape all the attempts on her life so she can live on for another day.
Really recommended, because this Roman murder mystery is an exciting tale to read and one that I like to call as "A Thrilling Roman Mystery"!

Loved the resort of Atlantis. Didn't see the killer coming and the denouement was great, if as usual a little OTT.

Book 5- now available as ebook.
Claudia goes to a spa, Marcus follows and Spa goers are mysteriously dropping dead
Confusing read- Author jumps from scene to scene and switches POV.
Claudia still annoying.
Will she ever get together with Marcus?!
Also these ebook covers are just too hideous.
