The career of steamy romance novelist, Kate Riley, known to her fans as Sophie Riley, is hanging by a thread thanks to a relentless bout of writer's block. Desperate for a breakthrough, she finds herself on the sun-soaked shores of the Alabama Gulf Coast, hoping the change of scenery will ignite her creativity. Inspiration remains elusive until six feet of sexy man shows up unexpectedly for a beach break of his own.

Jack Monroe, children's book author and illustrator desperately needs a vacation. A single, widowed father of two, he struggles to find balance and healing after a heartbreaking loss left him carrying the burden of betrayal. Forced to share the house, their week becomes transformative, reigniting Katie's passion for writing, awakening Jack’s long-dormant desires, and sparking an undeniable connection between them. When it ends, reality hits hard. With Jack in Nashville and Katie in Manhattan, their fragile relationship faces the ultimate test after Sophie’s book reveals secrets that could ruin everything. Can they overcome their insecurities and past wounds to build a future together? Sometimes, love requires nothing less than everything.

Fun, flirty, and irresistibly sexy, “How These Things Work” will have you believing in the magic of second chances and the power of true love.
