JET - Ops Files chronicles the early years of Maya, who would go on to become the Mossad's deadliest operative: the assassin known as Jet. From the West Bank to Tel Aviv to Jordan to Singapore to Indonesia, Ops Files is a breakneck adrenaline rush that will leave fans of the JET series gasping.
This is the first prequel to the Jet series, that leaves us wondering how many prequels are in the planning….apparently at least two more may be needed to document Maya’s adventures before she became Mossad’s most lethal operative. “Ops Files” is an essential read and a good introduction to the character and is also mine to the author as well as to the series.
Maya Weiss is a ruthless, superhuman female James Bond and of course she is 100% fiction but what a character she makes and what adventures she is facing. From the West Bank to Tel Aviv to Jordan to Singapore to Indonesia, packed with action from page one “Ops Files” is a breakneck adrenaline rush from start to finish. What an escapism, leave your believability barometer behind and enjoy the moment.
What a fun read, I was just in the perfect mood for a fast-paced, super-spy action thriller with breath holding moments and a storyline very hard to put down. Some may think the action is comic like but it definitely knows how to keep us engaged with vivid scenes. Sharp dialogue and tight narration makes this book an easy read. The plot is typical but very well done.
What an action-packed prequel. I've read all the Jet books and was psyched to learn about Jet's past. This book fleshes out more of how she became the person she is and her time in training to become an agent. And holy cow is the training is intense. Both physically and mentally. Of course she has an idiot superior officer who makes her life miserable and I wanted to get inside the book and choke him. I guess because he reminded me of an old boss I had. I loved the fight scenes. I found myself smiling whenever a good one was coming. I can always count on Jet to kick butt, especially to the people who have it coming. Highly recommend this book!
A black ops action adventure, this being the prequel to an entire series of novels. Since it is obvious that there is no series without the chief protagonist much of the tension is relieved leaving only the question of how she manages to pull herself out of each successive scrape. Well edited and matter of fact in its approach like its heroine the action proceeds apace. We are left in no doubt as to who the bad guys are, matters are rather black and white. Not great literature but an acceptable means of passing a bit of time.
A great introduction to a series about an Israeli female soldier who gets recruited to become an agent for Mossad. Maya is your typical 19 year old teenager, except she's a soldier in the IDF (Israeli Defence Forces). After her checkpoint is attacked and a friend of hers is killed, she sneaks into the surrounding Palestinian township looking for who is responsible. After a gunfight at a mosque, she is wounded and charged with desertion. She manages to convince her lawyer to investigate, and eventually gets recruited by Mossad to become an agent. After 6 months of intense training, she is sent on a mission to kidnap someone from Jordan. The team get ambushed, and she saves the day. She is then sent to investigate an arms dealer selling bio weapons to Indonesian terrorists in Malaysia. Along with another girl, they pose as high class prostitutes, only for the other girl to get caught. Determined to finish the mission, Maya kills the terrorists, destroys the arms dealers stock of weapons, kills him as he tries to escape, and leaves a trail of destruction on her wake. It ends with her being recruited into an elite unit so secret no-one else knows it exists.
Blake never disappoints. The story is a fast paced action adventure with a female kick-ass hero. The editing is clean, but there are some dropped links in the plot. Such as leading up to their time on the island, we are led to believe that the girls will be under constant surveillance. But that doesn't turn out to be the case. They are left in private rooms and when one is compromised, the arms dealer doesn't even begin to question the woman that arranged his birthday party and brought the girls to his island in the first place. That's a lot of trust for an arms dealer. All in all, an entertaining read.
I've always enjoyed books like this - fast, action-packed with an mazing lead character.
From a slow night at a checkpoint to blowing up an arms dealer's island abode, this book kept me busy through the first few days of the month. I was squirreling away time each night to read more of the book, staying up until my eyes would no longer stay open.
Similar to James Rollins' Tucker Wayne novels, and other military/spy fictions, I would recommend this book to anyone I know who reads similar stuff.
This one started slow for me because the background was more than I needed to connect to Maya's character. The info was needed but because it was kind of bouncing around and it was more of a distraction I couldn't get connected very well. Once Maya was out of the army, things picked up quite a bit and I was really able to enjoy her character more. I kept thinking, this is one I'd like to see on TV. Part of it made me think of Nikita if you remember that storyline. I would read more of this series if I could get my hands on them.
Tense Suspense. I wasn't sure what to expect when I started this book. Fascinating "report" on how a Mossad operative is trained. So real, I thought the story might be true. Maya is daring, fierce. She has nothing to lose. This is the preliminary story of what led her to become an assassin. Her first missions give more insight into her character. If you like high intensity and action, you'll like this book.
This was my first Russell Blake novel. So, it was good to learn the background of the agent who features in the popular series beforehand. The cover's great. The book's well written and the research sound. Everything rang true - the settings and the dialogue. The action was frenetic and chapter after chapter disappeared in a flash. It was certainly a good read and it sets up the series perfectly.
The back story = After reading the first 2 of Russell Blake’s JET Series, I really wanted to know how/when/where this girl evolved into the awesome, badass, deadly, forceful woman of those stories. This first ‘prequel’ does just that. Every bit as intense as Jet, Maya becomes a force to be reckoned with. Loved it!
This is a great prequel piece and if you haven’t already read a Jet novel you don’t need any prior knowledge (it is a prequel after all). It ticks all the Jet series boxes of adrenaline fuelled high octane slightly larger than life action story that never really lets up. If that sounds appealing then you have come to the right place.
most of my reading is done after midnight when I can not to back to sleep.
This book kept getting better and better. The action just kept me going . I found it totally enjoyable. I have all the other books on my wish list so I can continue the series. Expect I will enjoy them all. A real treat read about a great character.
This is a prequel to the Jet series. I've read them all and although I've had this book for several months, I've only just got around to reading it. Blake writes thrillers that are full of action and very exciting. This one was no exception. It's a fun book to read, if somewhat unbelievable. Nevertheless, I really enjoyed reading this book.
I enjoy the Jet series and this was a wonderful prequel to give some background how Jet became...well...Jet. The premise makes sense, the storyline is interesting (at times over the top but that is ok, this is fiction), the character interaction seems genuine. I look forward to reading Terror Alert.
If this is what the beginning is like, I can't wait to read more. It was an intense, complex, and intriguing story that will hook you from beginning to end. Looking forward to reading the next book. I would definitely recommend this book, series, and outstanding author.
This author can hold my interest repeatedly. Maya was a dynamic woman who took her responsibility serious. Will continue reading books by this author. Will follow JET series.
Having read Jet first, I was not sure how the two would mesh but I was not disappointed. If you pick up a Blake book, you are unlikely to put it down. His books with Clive Cussler also are outstanding.
This is a great read. You will not want to put the book down once you start. It is amazing the intestinal fortitude that some people have in this world. This story gives you many examples.
This book is a thrill ride from start to finish. Action junkies looking for a story with a strong female lead should give this a shot. I haven't read any of the Jet series, only this prequel, but now I'm looking forward to those.
The Jet series is a complete blast of one outrageous adventure after another. There is plenty of action and a kick butt heroine. Strap yourself in for a hell of a ride.
Good story - shows development of the skills of the character and the move to an elite operative. The training exercises brought out the determination as well as the level of the training. this prequel was written after the others in the series, so some of the content is background filler.
Just read the 1st Jet novel and decided to read this prequel before reading the rest of the series. Think I have found a new favorite Assassin. Can't wait to read the rest of series and other books by this author.
Young Maya serving her time in Israeli military stumbles upon a bomb plot. As she works to get more information to take to the higher echelon to stop it, she is discovered and the real adventure begins. Maya is a very intriguing character.
