Moonwish: Sundowners Book Two

Rate this book
From the author of the supernatural suspense series Gifted (Healer, Connection, and Protector), and the award-winning You Can Do Carnival of Mysteries comes the follow-up to the queer paranormal romance Sundowners.

"The second novel in Merrill’s deliciously spicy, thoroughly engrossing Sundowners series offers a thought-provoking take on the vampire mythos wrapped in an elegantly heartfelt romance." ~Publishers Weekly BookLife Review

Even a pacifist vampire can be pushed too far. Threatening his love is a hard limit.

Vampire Creed Lowell’s life was altered fifty years ago at the hands of an ancient being known only as The Source, right before rogue members of the cult he belonged to destroyed their way of life. Just as Creed discovers the identity of the responsible party for that terrible tragedy, temptation is placed in his path in the form of grad student Roman San Angelo, a stubborn, proud, infuriating man who’s everything Creed ever wanted in a partner. When Creed’s past catches up to them, Roman is snatched from his grasp and Creed is forced into hiding, saddled with the care of his former mentor. He’s the only one strong enough to heal them and prevent a catastrophic event, though his rage builds the longer he’s kept from his love.

When Roman’s safety is threatened once more, the two are finally reunited, and Creed is devastated to see the physical effects of Roman’s run-in with The Source. He wants nothing more than to secret Roman away and share whatever time they have left on this Earth in peace. But once again, Creed is forced to sacrifice everything when an old enemy sets their sights on his unique genetic makeup and skills.

This time, it’s Creed who’s taken, and Roman will do whatever it takes to rescue him, even if it means trusting the being that nearly ended his life. With the help of Roman’s long-suffering uncle, a determined FBI agent, and a mysterious benefactor with a multitude of resources at his disposal, they’ll need to bring down a shadowy financial powerhouse and put an end to their villainy before it’s too late for Creed to have a life with his beloved.

Moonwish is a continuation of the events in Sundowners and the books should be read in order. The events of this story are resolved by the end, but Roman and Creed will continue to work towards a resolution of the series’ story arc in future books. For readers 18 and over.

Reviewed for Love Bytes – 4.5 hearts.
While recovering from the events in Sundowners, Roman’s safety becomes an issue. Meanwhile, elsewhere, Creed continues to have struggles with The Source. Once again, Roman and Creed are on converging paths, as events suggest that the EVE Corporation has a long reach. Things must change. The questions are: who, how and when?
Initially, I thought this book was one of a duo, but I am pleased to see that there will be more in the series. Each book contains a complete story, but there is also an underlying tale that spans the series. Moonwish is a super read that took me in a delightfully unexpected direction, with evolving established characters and exciting new ones.
The story is told in the third person, primarily from the viewpoints of Roman and Creed. The worldbuilding is enough for me to form a picture without resorting to excessive detail, which suited my reading tastes. The tale also expands outside of Santa Cruz. I’ll admit that I had a little squeeee moment when Rey had a larger role, and it looks to be a continuing feature.
In this instalment, I was treated to police interviews, investigations, rehab, healing, protective custody, and more, and that was just for Roman. As for Creed, he’s in a secure location dealing with The Source.
In the background, there are strong hints of a world of good, greedy, bad, and secret organizations that will undoubtedly be exposed in this and future books. I am chuffed that there are even more exciting times to come. One clear thing is that this series is an evolving world that could be something special. And in the hands of RL Merrill – I have confidence that it will be.
Oh, and let's not forget the OAP home, where the extraordinary residents and sundowners form the heart of this story.

Vampire Creed Lowell's life was changed by a powerful entity known as The Source, just before rogue cult members destroyed their way of life. As he uncovers the truth about the tragedy, Creed becomes entangled with Roman San Angelo, a graduate student who embodies everything Creed desires in a partner. But when Creed’s past resurfaces, Roman is kidnapped, and Creed must go into hiding with his former mentor, whose healing is essential to prevent disaster. When Roman’s safety is threatened again, the two are reunited, but Roman bears the physical scars of his encounter with The Source. Creed longs to keep Roman safe, but an old enemy targets Creed’s genetic abilities, forcing him to make more sacrifices. When Creed is captured, Roman must rely on unexpected allies, including his uncle, an FBI agent, and a mysterious benefactor, to rescue Creed. Together, they must dismantle a dangerous financial power before it’s too late for Creed and Roman to have a future together. Moonwish is the second book in the Sundowners series and it was great as the first one.

Really enjoyed this second book to Creed and Roman’s story. I really like the interaction between these two and The Source that they are trying to stay safe from.

This is the sequel to Sundowners that I’ve been eager to read! I would hope that people will read Sundowners before Moonwish.

Creed, older than he appears and needing human blood and energy to stay alive, is in hiding after the events of Sundowners. Roman, Creed’s love, is in the hospital, recovering from almost total exsanguination by ‘The Source,’ a mysterious being responsible for Creed’s unusual life.

The creepy gang is gone – but Creed and Roman are being sought by an unscrupulous businessman who wants to use Creed, or rather Creed’s blood in the development of very expensive serum to heal people who can afford it. The plot is complex, and introduces a few more ‘more than human’ characters from another series by Merrill.

I particularly enjoyed the times when The Source is moving toward being able to live in the world as it is, ditching the red robes for more contemporary clothes. There’s an ending here, not a cliffhanger, though there could be more adventures in store for Creed and Roman, I suppose. I recommend it!.

Moonwish, this PNR MM book had me go through a rollercoaster of emotions along with the main characters Creed and Roman. I just finished up book one and this book feels different and had a more action focused feel to me without loosing the emotions of individual characters. They do get their hea/hfn, but not without costs to them both and an awful lot of personal growth whether they wanted to or not. It was a plus to get more insight into Amergin/ The Source and all they are and had to endure.
Most all of the side characters on their side of the story stole my heart in some form or other I would like to learn more of several off them. One thing is for sure I am putting the whole 'Gifted' series on my tbr to find out more about Mr. Hart. Lastly the overarching EVE and linked organizations storyline, I am wondering what will happen there since that line seemed to be open ended. Well done an definiterly recommend to read in order to make sense of this storyline.

I just love the take that R.L. Merrill has taken about vampires in this series. We get to know more about The Source and how they ended up being controlled by others as well as getting more about Creed and Roman. Creed is still my favorite vampire with him using his powers to help dementia patients. These books definitely need to be read in order because you really won’t understand the overall plot if you don’t. And what a plot it is! There is more action in this book than the first one as Creed and Roman make more effort to find out what is going on with The Source and all of the skullduggery in the background. Other people get in the way of their relationship, but there are hints about more story coming and I can’t wait.

I read the first book, and couldn’t wait for the second. And I’m torn. I don’t know if I should live it because the storytelling is fantastic, and it wraps up the story nicely, while opening up opportunities for other characters, or hate it because it sucked me in from page 1, messed up my sleep schedule, and now it’s over. Just be prepared to read it in one sitting, because you won’t be able to put it down.

I was completely captivated with the first book and was avidly awaiting this one! I was definitely not disappointed as we continue with Creed and Romans journey. So good to see them still together and follow their fight against their enemies. Plenty of on the edge of your seats moments making me devour this in one go! Highly recommend.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. It captures your interest from start to finish. I'm glad that Creed and Roman are still together and working together to help each other in dealing with the ones who want to harm them. They are a formidable team.
