Creature of the Void

Rate this book
With the defeat of Nightfall, peace has once again returned to the Seven Lands. That is, until shadowy creatures begin appearing to steal away the peoples’ magic. Opening the Void protected the world from one threat, but no one was prepared for the evil that escaped from within.

Still reeling from the feelings of victory and loss incurred during the battle at the Lectus, Orimund and his friends realize even their combined powers will not be enough to save the world this time. Guided by the research of their favorite librarian, the friends are tasked with seeking out the help of a Greater Power to defeat the creatures spreading across the land at an alarming rate. To make matters worse, the young mages have been branded as heretics by the Astral Praelate and her fast-growing religious faction.

Besides being pursued by mysterious creatures and religious zealots, Orimund and his friends must work through their personal feelings and convictions as they process fear and grief, grow into their roles of leadership, and navigate relationships. Will the dangerous journey to the far corners of the known world bring them closer together or tear them apart? Will they wake the Celestial powers in time to save the world from darkness, or will this be the end of magic in the Seven Lands?

If Orimund and Imber don't end up together then I might actually give up on life

God dammit, Wend can read my soul and literally deliver me everything I crave.

As per book 1 the world building is the stand out highlight in this book - but she takes us across all of the seven lands and it was mesmerising to explore. Every area is so uniquely different from the last - I just wish we could have spent more time in each.

For romantasy fans, there are very slow building, organic, real relationships developing in the background to the plot which wilk make you adore the characters even more.

MORE PEOPLE NEED TO READ THIS SERIES. I'm so utterly utterly obsessed. It got me out of a reading slump and I am now DESPERATE for the final installment.

This is by far my favorite book I’ve read this year! It had me on the edge of my seat! I love that it picks up right where the last book left off! The found family aspect is something that I love in books and it always makes me so happy to read this!!! I know some people are hoping that Imber and Orimund end up together but personally ’m really hoping that Imber and Arrin end up together! I loved getting to see more new and exciting parts of their world and I love how seeing all the different cultures of each new place!!

I was happy to return back to this Wonderful world Wend created. The thing I thoroughly enjoy so much about her writing style and world is the light hearted and cultural aspects she brings in her writing that grabs my attention in this series. Here I stand reading a book about high stakes across the land, but it’s learning about the new continents our main character Ori and his crew go to that brings a light hearted reprieve from action packed pages. Each POV character is done so well to keep the mood at the right place as you read. Whether it is Ori making you understand the weight and severity of the conflict unfolding, Cati sharing her perspective and insight of magic and nature living in harmony, Regus giving you a few face slaps and laughter, or Imber and Sorrell dropping just enough kind hearted romance to make anyone who enjoys reliving their old indecisive youth moments of first loves and such anyone can relate to. Thank You for another great read Wend and see you in Book 3

Regus' jokes and pain

This sequel picks up a little after the events of book 1. It took me a little bit to get back into remembering who all the side characters were, but I quickly settled back in. This book gave off tons of Avatar the Last Airbender and Harry Potter vibes. Regus felt so much like Sokka which helped to ease the copious amounts of pain Raven heaps on readers.

Creature of the Void is such an awesome journey and definitely starts off with a bang from where MOTV left off!

***SPOILER ALERT***

It was so much fun revisiting the cast from Master of the Void and traveling to all the Seven Lands this time! Regus and Sorrel who were supporting characters in Master of the Void were amazing to read this time, and I laughed so much at Regus' antics and humor.

As much as we were able to delve into the world building before I feel like we get a lot more with this book and all the lands have a very unique culture and feel to them, similar to their Guardians.

The Imber / Ori - will they, won't they continues to get me and I'm 1,000% an Arrin/Imber fan so I really hope to see more of them together in the next book (Also, talk about a CLIFFHANGER!!!) but I will begrudgingly admit that I slightly enjoyed exploring more of the Ori and Imber dynamic since they were mostly separated in Master of the Void. But only a teensy bit...

Medea was my favorite Guardian! Hilarious and flamboyant and I couldn't get enough of them and all their sibling banter. When I am in the mood to travel somewhere else, sipping on a cup of hot tea when it's raining outside, I want to start Master of the Void all over again and read straight through.

Thanks to Wend for taking us on such a journey and letting the reader share in this amazing world! It's a blast! Can't wait for book #3!
