TOUCH OF TROUBLE is a smart, sexy contemporary romance novella from award-winning author Susan Sey. Part of the "Red Door Reds/Who is Ben Skrewd?" novella collection, it weighs in at approximately 20,000 words, and picks up right where TALENT FOR TROUBLE (Blake Brothers #2) left off. Meg and Drew, you'll recall, have just taken off--together, after midnight and in a tearing hurry. Wondering where they've gone? TOUCH OF TROUBLE fills you in. Enjoy! HE'S IN HOT PURSUIT… Drew Blake loves women. All women. Normally, they love him right back but Meghan Wise? Not so much. To his shock, Meg's immune to charm, impervious to flattery, and just plain impatient with his attention. So what the hell is she doing knocking at his bedroom door after midnight with a smile and an invitation? SHE'S HARD TO GET... Meg prefers to fly solo, generally speaking, but she knows when to buddy up. Like now, for example, when an annoying situation suddenly goes all law-and-order on her on the middle of the night. She'll deal with it, of course, but she'll need a bodyguard. Unfortunately, the only person who's both interested in her body and handy at midnight is Drew "Charm Boy" Blake. SHE'S IN A TOUCH OF TROUBLE… Meg's not offering quite the adventure Drew has in mind but he jumps at it anyway. Because there's just something about this girl, something beyond the surface slick and the endless legs. Something soft, vulnerable, and precious that she really doesn't want him to see. Which is why he desperately wants to see it. Drew's not one to resist temptation, either. The question is, can she resist him? …BUT IT MIGHT JUST BE HIS LUCKY NIGHT.
Some years back, Susan Sey gave up the glamorous world of software training to pursue a high powered career in diaper changing. Two children and millions of diapers later, she decided to branch out and started writing novels during nap time. The kids eventually gave up their naps, so now she writes when she's supposed to be doing the laundry. She currently resides in St. Paul, MN, with her wonderful husband, their charming children and a very tall pile of dirty clothes.
Touch of Trouble is a novella of the Blake brothers. It is by Susan Sey. It comes between books two and three. It is about Drew and Meg. It is a comedy of errors. With the troubles between Audrey and her Father finished, Drew and Meg leave the mansion following Hildy Wise. Meg seems to know where they are going but Drew is clueless. They end up at a house where a woman is screaming from inside. Hildy has rushed inside and Meg follows. Drew grabs Meg’s backpack and heads into the house as well. Here he finds a young lady having a screaming fit while her parents watch and bicker about how to handle her. Hildy is her mother but is forced by a restraining order not to touch her daughter. She manages to get her to calm down. Then she and the father leave the young girl in Meg’s hands while they go argue some more. The young girl who seems to be sleeping, wakes up when Meg nudges her and tells her they are gone. Clara, the young girl, is beautiful and tiny. She is also Meg’s twin. However, Meg is not classically beautiful and is quite tall. Clara has thrown the fit to bring the police to the house. She had a class with a police officer and fell in love with him and wants him to take her away. The police officer is appalled at the notion that she is in love with him and wants to arrest her for falsely getting the police to the house. Drew intervenes and he and Meg end up being arrested instead of Clara.
I actually liked this little novella better than the other two.
This takes place IMMEDIATELY after Book 2 and there's no backstory or preamble, but it's interesting and we learn a little bit more about Hildy Wise and her daughter, Meg, who took a liking to Will (but was rejected obviously) and who seems to be annoyed by Drew (maybe).
I like Drew's character - a lot. He's fun and sexy. And it makes me want Book 3.
There are too many spoilers if I give away the plot... but we learn about Meg and her family in this one.
A quick read at only 74 pages but this novella probably could have been folded in to the next book in the series, Time for Trouble. I haven't read the first two books in the series yet but this novella gave a lot of background information considering the story takes place in a day.
There was a lot of depth to the characters considering how short the story was and it had a nice flow. There was some playfulness along with anger, sadness and a lot of manipulation on Meg's sister's part as well as their dad. The ending was too abrupt without closure even though I know there's a next book that finishes Drew and Meg's story.
Will give her other books a try since Sey is a new to me author.
This story gave me part of the backstory to numbers one and two in this series and that is brilliant. Although I didn’t need it, it was great to read Meg’s family history and how that informs her choices with Drew. They are so going to be a great couple when they both get over themselves! Loved this novella - great little read.
A quick short story by an author I've read two previous books in this series.
Book doesn't actually start immediately after the previous book, it actually starts in a police station with Drew and Meg sitting there. Telling a cop why they are there. Then book flashes back to near the end of the last book. With Hildy racing in her car to an unknown, to Drew, location, and Drew in his car chasing Hildy. Meg's sitting next to him dodging his questions, and flirtations.
As I believe I read in a review, this is less a romance and more a look at Meg's family. Sure Drew flirts with Meg and makes her feel things she didn't expect to feel from such a young guy, one who seems unable to be serious, but she 'friend-zone''s him hard.
Heh. I was just thinking to myself, while staring at the cover, about what to write next (I knew, but my mind wandered), and the thought crossed my mind about how the covers, all of them in this series, show legs. A series about brothers. Cover's show women's legs. Started to think why that might be when it hit me that I already knew why this one had that on the cover. Drew is very fascinated by Meg's legs. Her long long legs. So . . ..
Before I distracted myself - so, yeah, this is a book about family. Specifically Meg's family. And less about Drew and Meg. Interesting story. Hildy being the mother. And 'special' - as in she works as something of a . . . hmm, not sure correct word, I'll call her a ghost buster for the heck of it. Joe, Hildy's ex, is described as an alpha male. Hates the very idea that his wife, ex-wife, is a con artist (in his view). Meg - the 'sane' twin. Quite good with electronics. Doesn't believe anyone when they say she's 'pretty'. Believes anyone interested in her would instantly turn their affections towards her sister, Clara. Clara's the 'insane' twin. I'd say something like - at least when she doesn't take her medication, but no, she's 'insane' even on her meds. So, that's the Wise family.
It's a short story - it's a short review. Heck, I didn't even mean to read this here story, but I'd started on the third book in the series (this story being considered 2.5), and realized that the book was opening too far forward in Meg and Drew's 'relationship', so I needed to go back and read the short story. So I did. The short story was entertaining. Had a bit of humor. And stuff. Off to the third book I go.
Touch of Trouble:Blake Brothers#2.5,a Ben Skrewd Novella(The Blake Brothers Trilogy)
I feel sorry for Meg,she has a family that act like she doesn't exist.Having a twin sister is not easy for Megan, her sister got the looks and she got the brains.Meg is very unsure of her lot in life,at least she has Andrew. They have this love hate relationship that is so funny.Meg says what ever is on her mind, and as you read this story you will come to love her snarky attitude.
I fell in love with drew the hero in this novella. I have read the 2 prior books that are filled with crazy love and wonderful people who comprise a laugh out loud family. Here we really get a peak at seeing Drew as an adult and he's good at it. Thank you great read.
I was waiting on the next actual book in the Blake Brother trilogy and noticed this 'prequel' in Sey's newsletter, figured why not? glad I did, mostly for the laughs...warning Ben Skrewd is exactly what you would think with a name like that! Exactly!!!
A cute quick read that I enjoyed. I like Susan Sey's writing style anyway, but now I may need to check out these other authors who have written Red Door Reads/Ben Skrewd novellas too since I find it an intriguing concept.
This is a short novella bridging book 2 into book 3, like a little extra bridge connecting the stories with extra details about Drew and Meg with some more details about Meg's family.
Provides some back story to better understand Meg but not much else. I only read it because another Goodreads reviewer recommended it for the back story. She was right.
