This is some of the best visual storytelling I've ever seen - powerful, eloquent and captivating. It builds a unique world and fills it with wonders. On the face of it the story seems very simple, but in reality there's a sprawling epic here replete with love, betrayal, huge battles and unexpected reverses. I hope the blue dog has further adventures, but even if he doesn't I hope Burniat and Mihiels collaborate again.

“Fierce, funny, strange, endearing!”
Trap
This was something different.
A wordless comic that tells a tale of power, monsters and love.
I found it outlandish, eccentric and strangely enjoyable.

3,5/5. Interesting wordless comic book. A strange story that mixed humor, some gore and fantasy element. Weird for sure, but nonetheless a fun ride. Easy entertainment!

I've decided that wordless NEEDS to become a worldwide (since omnireadable) genre so that it can be labeled thus searchable especially amongst those considered just "children's", even by my most trusted 9ᵗʰ art information site bedetheque, since they aren't by bd creators/publishers like this one is identifiable through. I hate that there's so much silent art narrative over there that isn't on any of the sites for me to find.

Visual: ****.₅
I was very excited about viewing Burniat's brushwork, from the aesthetic pleasure of reading "La Passion de Dodin-Bouffant", and enjoy what's added by the hand of Loup Michiels who shares art and color credit. I do enjoy when certain artists use these types of over-extreme and oppositional colors but the half star is removed for theirs being a bit too wacky in a distracting fashion.

Narrative: ***
The elder trapper is an excellent orchestration of parallel conflict who infuses a highly intelligent and measured tense malevolence to the lower-brain fury of the monster antagonist!

There's an action scene where humor is integrated so well- he had the flying rodent that he grabbed on the way off the cliff squirreled away in his (pocketless) pants to be grabbed, killed and donned before reaching the ground!

The magic and impossibilities are fun and foundational to the story, but I would have preferred that suspension of disbelief wasn't quite so strained to such extremity.

(4,1 of 5 for bittersweet prehistoric fantasy)
Well, this was cool. A story about the prehistoric hunter and his loyal dog trying to catch the bigger predators. The animals are work of fiction as well as hunter's ability to use the skin of the bagged animal to transform into them, to possess their power. And that's a cool idea and I enjoyed that story even if it is very simple. The art evokes more a children's book, but the tale is sometimes a bit dark/sad. This comics book is nice, although I'm a bit sad it was so fast read (even with its almost 200 pages). But I really did enjoy it.

"Leitura" interessante

An amusing tale about a prehistoric like man who lives alone in the wild. He has special powers and is able to take on the form of the animals he kills. He is what paranormal books would call a skinwalker.

His life changes when he goes on a hunt for a dragon kind of animal which has destroyed a nearby village. Although he has the ability to change as he embarks on this quest he doesn't realise that this hunt will change him for ever.

This story is told without words, just using pictures. It is a quick but amusing read with cartoon like graphics. It is imaginative and entertaining. Even though it didn't have words it was quite easy to understand.

There's only one thing for fellow fans of wordless comics to do – check this out, pronto. It's immediately funny, with a parade of animals coming into and leaving a static frame concentrating on a lump of chicken or other meat, and the book knows it can take its time to reveal the truth. It's also leisurely with its plot, which concerns a bloke that can embody any animal whose hide he wears – some give him great sight, others speed, strength, or the ability to give the shits to anything else, which includes his bright blue dog-like companion, as well. When a local jungle community he's only just met with is decimated, he's asked to go out for revenge. Sure, some of the action that follows is a little cartoonishly slapstick, but boy it's good fun – the concept is a great one and great use is used of its potential, and it's a dead cert bit of fantasy entertainment. Only a couple of scenes that take a bit too much time to parse, and the ambiguity of the ending, stop it from being a full five stars, but this really is a keeper for me nonetheless.

Honestly came out of reading this graphic novel unsure of how I feel about it.
It was weird/surreal enough that it kept me reading, wondering where on earth it was going/how it was going to come to an end, but in my opinion that was the only thing that kept me going.

The way the main character changes form is quite gruesome, I'm unsure if it was meant to be portraying the concept of stepping into another animals skin in terms of using its skills to survive, or if it wasn't that deep and was just going for a surrealist concept, either way it didn't click with me and the kind of content I enjoy.

There were also some questionable stereotypes of other people living in tribes in the forests which while similar imagery is used in other comics/graphic novels in this style that I have read before, this is newly published so in my opinion theres no excuse.

Overall:
Maybe a one time look if you're not too squeamish and take it all with a pinch of salt but don't think it'll be one that I buy for myself or others

This story is an interesting hybrid - the plot is essentially prehistoric adventure, like something out of Conan the Barbarian, but the art style gives it an amusing, comic tone. The result is a bit like the Tintin comics, only without the dialogue and in a different historical setting. Ultimately, the hybrid style works really well, presenting a story that's at once cute and scary, amusing and adventurous. Lots of fun to read.

The portrayal of Native Americans/First Nations people in the book was dealt with in a visually and campy stereotypical manner. The ones portrayed in this book are typical for those created by Europeans and I'm almost tempted to forgive the cultural un-sensitivity, but the author and artist should really be more culturally aware. The story didn't need "Indian" characters and I would have loved the animal-man vs. monster cartoon without it. Oh well.

this was... pretty weird... I kinda liked the skinsuits, in the beginning I wasn't sure if it were a metaphor or if he actually took the form of the animals he dressed...

RARELY do I read something so universal (you could give this to your kid), but I loved it. I'd liken this to a less violent Happy Tree Friends. Containing no language, no text, and appealing to one's senses and emotion, this GN will pull at your heart strings.

This one was... weird. I like strange and unusual but this one was just a bit too much for me personally. Love the cover design but I wasn't a big fan of the style of illustrations throughout. I can see there being a target audience for this, but unfortunately I'm not one of them.
