“I’m out of the garden and I left with the snake.”

Set in the rural beauty of northern Montana, Westin picks up where Sovereign left off and delves into the tumultuous love story of Westin Quinn and Diane Garrison.

Diane has lived on Carter Farms for her entire life. Raised with her older brother by their Nana, she learned to be strong, smart, and independent.

But after her Nana’s death, Diane finds herself stuck in a tedious existence, under the thumb of her bitter brother, David.

All that changes when a cowboy from Sovereign Mountain, the biggest and most infamous ranch around, shows up.

He’s dangerous and forbidden. And he pulls her into a whirlwind, scorching hot romance that’s doomed from the start.

But when faced with the possibility of losing the family farm, Diane is forced to give up the one thing she wants most—freedom to choose her own destiny.

She’s not as alone as she thinks, because Westin Quinn, the cowboy from Sovereign Mountain, never moved on.

And he’s got a plan to get his girl back.

Westin is a dark, cowboy romance with heavy themes and content suitable for adults only. TWs will be provided on the author's site soon.

Definitely keen to read this one, *whispers here's hoping he's not into the BDSM lifestyle too*😝 Annnnd he is 🤣.. must be a cowboy kink in their part of the country 🤣

I was really looking forward to this book especially with how much I enjoyed the previous instalment, once it went live, I dived right in, and if I’m being brutally honest I kind of got bored, I don’t mind books centered around the BDSM lifestyle but when it takes it away from me connecting with the characters that’s when I have a problem with it, I had everything crossed that this author would go a different way with Westin since the previous book was too similar to come across as unique as one reviewer mentioned it was almost a copy paste version, and yes I have to agree with her.

If your a fan of the tv series Yellowstone I base my cowboys off Rip, loyal, brash, tough, takes no shit kind of a guy, piss him off and your dropped off at the train station. But when he loves he loves tenderly, fully, you connect completely with the love he shows, this is what I seek when it comes to this genre.

I wanted to push through and finish this book but sadly I couldn’t finish it, I only got about 60% and I was done.

This is a my problem with this book, others have loved it, sadly it just wasn’t for me..

I saw reviews saying this was a copy and paste of sovereign.
Nah.
Sure the first half the book is the same timeline as book one but we get things from Westin and Diane’s POV.

And honestly, I liked Westin better.
Diane was ok, pretty comparable to Keira. I felt her story was maybe more sad. Whispering was a personality trait of hers…

The big thing was I felt like these two had more of an actual relationship. They started things off more “normal”, they went out together, they actually talked about things. Westin was much sweeter all while also being the gunslinger.

They do have an age gap 21/37(?)

The BDSM was much lighter(to me), until more towards the end. Which didn’t really matter to me.

I dig the Yellowstone vibes with a more western old time ish feels.

First off I'd like to say thank you to Raya and her team for selecting me as an ARC reader for Westin.

This book was the perfect sequel to Sovereign. Westin River Quinn, is a dark, brooding, and broken man who sees what he wants and will let nothing stand in his way. Diane is an innocent and sheltered young woman who has lost everyone who cared for her. I loved the dynamic between Westin and Diane, though she was young and inexperienced she didn't back down. She took every challenge head on and with a little sass. I loved seeing the softer side of Westin when it came to Diane. He's very much an alpha male but he had some of the most swoon-worthy moments when it came to her. If you're into a dark cowboy romance that is loaded with the most decadent spice, this is the one.

Another sexy and steamy dark Cowboy Romance. The gunslinger and his dream girl.
I love Sovereign Mountain and it's dark inhabitants. It was interesting how this one filled in certain holes from the overlapping timeline with Sovereign. I was not expecting some of the things we learned.

I reread this with the audio and it was Narrated by Hannah Chiclana & Jack Calihan. Holy Moses, they elevated this story and made it almost to hot too handle. Haha!

This is a dark cowboy BDSM read. Also age gap (she’s 21, he’s 37). It’s the sequel to Sovereign, but you could read it as a standalone – but, it makes more sense if you read Sovereign first.

This was a solid sequel – not amazing, it could have been better, but it was fine. It’s about Westin, Sovereign’s BFF / right hand man / ranch hand, and Diane, their neighbor. Similar to the first book, he’s a cowboy who likes BDSM. She lives a miserable life on a nearby farm, where she toils away doing chores all day, and has no friends and no life outside of that. They meet, and sparks fly. But, her terrible brother forces her to marry this bad guy fellow rancher. And, she feels motivated to go along with it, otherwise her beloved family farm will be destroyed by a developer.

I liked Sovereign better, this book didn’t draw me in as much. As a hero, Westin was a little bit more likable than Sovereign. But otherwise, as a book, Sovereign drew me in, whereas there were times in this book where it just wasn’t holding my attention, and I felt a little bored.

There were two issues: one was that the heroine of Sovereign got to be more active in her own story. Diane was more passive; she sat back and let this plot happen TO her. The book 1 heroine was part of the final action climax and shot a man; Diane literally sat around twiddling her thumbs while Westin did the action. Even in the areas where she technically made a choice – like, she “chose” to marry the bad guy, to save her family farm – her brother was forcing her to do it anyway. So it would have happened, regardless. She was a passenger in her own story. And, being a submissive isn’t the problem; I’ve read plenty of books with submissive heroines who are more active in their own stories (like Dirty Bad Wrong or Stolen or The Monster and the Doll or After Hours). Weirdly, this book didn't seem to realize this, because Westin kept on commenting that Diane had "sass." Either that, or this book DID realize that Diane is too passive, and it tried to disguise that under her having "sass," so that we wouldn't notice. Well, I did notice.

The second issue is, for half the book, Diane and Westin are pretty much separated. And, similar to the first book, this has an insta-love vibe at the beginning. One reason why I liked the first book is that insta-love is one of my most hated tropes – but, this author managed to make it work in Sovereign. That’s impressive that she got me to like a book with a trope I normally hate. Usually, in insta-love, there’s no relationship development. But Sovereign still felt like it had it, partly because Sovereign and his heroine interacted a lot. Diane and Westin's separation made the story feel like it didn't have relationship development, after the initial insta-love.

Although I was underwhelmed, I didn’t have a bad time, and I don’t regret reading this, it’s a fine sequel. People who liked Sovereign will probably like it. Also, I had assumed that this would be a 3 book series, ending with a book for their hitman friend, Jack. But this book introduces TWO more intriguing hot cowboys: Deacon and Jensen. So, probably they’ll get books, and it will be a 5 book series. I would be into that, I was interested in Deacon and Jensen. So, although this book didn’t wow me, I’m still interested in the rest of the series.

THIS BOOK!!!! I loved it SO much. This is one of those books that I. COULD. NOT. PUT. DOWN! I burnt my kids dinner because I wasn't paying attention because I was so bloody enthralled with this book!

This one is the second book in the Sovereign Mountain series and follows Westin Quinn and Diane Carter. The timelines briefly overlap between book 1 and book 2 but I think this could be read on it's own. I do highly recommend the first book, too.

Westin is a dark, brooding, broken man who one day sees what he wants and he doesn't let anything stand in his way. Diane is innocent, sheltered and doesn't trust easily. She is used to living under the thumb of others and her one wish is to live life for herself. Once Diane took a bite of that forbidden fruit, she knew that she could no longer live a life of anguish and abuse at the hands of her brother and his acquaintances. I absolutely loved the dynamic and relationship between Westin and Diana. She wasn't afraid to ask questions, she was much stronger then anyone gave her credit for and I love how Westin's softer side came out when it came to Diane. He may have been a gunslinger but he stopped at nothing to make his woman happy.

I really enjoy Raya's writing style and how she pushes the boundaries with her characters and their dynamics. The spicy scenes she writes may not be everyone's cup of tea and that is okay but I love how they fit the story so decadently.

I loved this book so much and I can't wait to see where Raya takes this series next! Thank you for the arc, Raya! Absolutely impeccable. ⚠️⚠️Please check your trigger warnings before heading into this one!

Loved it!

Story: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Trope: instalove, cowboy
Angst: 😱😱😱😱
Smexy: 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

This has been a really good series so far and I'm looking forward to reading more. Its fast paced and pretty angsty without being overly melodramatic. Its also pretty BDSM heavy. I'm not always in the mood for those, but glad I took the chance.

How in the world does this book have such a high rating? Lol. I feel as if 2 stars is too generous.

The insta love was SO bad. I’m talking, ridiculously impossible 😂 I felt this story was just so far fetched and unrealistic, I couldn’t handle it or get myself to care at all. 2x speed for the audio couldn’t even get this book over with quick enough 💀

Maybe if we would’ve gotten some backstory on the characters before diving face first into instalove & instalust, it wouldn’t have been so bad. 21 year old virgin not only kisses a random dude that’s way older - but also gives up her VCard? I just couldn’t. I rolled my eyes so many times during this story. 🫠

I didn’t connect with either of the MC’s because the story was just ridiculous from the get go and was hard to relate or get into caring for someone with such a ridiculous story line.

Raya Morris Edwards does it again! Hands down the best sequel to Sovereign 🤠🖤 This book did not disappoint. It checked all the boxes for me! Westin’s story definitely won my heart. The whole plot and storyline was so captivating. Keira and Sovereign’s love story was beautiful but there was just something special about Diane and Westin 🖤🤠 if you’re looking for a spicy dark cowboy romance look no further and start the Sovereign Mountain Series. Thank you so much to Raya Morris Edwards for the opportunity to read this ARC!

This is one of those books where I wanted to read it in one sitting, but also wanted to savour it and never let it end... It was SO good and SO spicy.

Westin is the second book in the Sovereign Mountain series. The story follows Westin Quinn, a dark and broody broken man and Diane Carter, an innocent woman, who is sheltered from the world by her cruel, abusive and unruly brother.

We follow Diane as she is grieving her nana and slowly becoming a piece of furniture at Carter Farms. She is forgotten about. Throughout the first half of the book, we learn that Diane wants to experience life and leave her horrible brother, David, behind. Once Diane meets Westin Quinn, she realises that the life she wants is in the shape of a gunslinger with a bad case of "what I want I get"... That is until her slimy brother gets involved and "sells" her off to a rival cowboy - The Garrison brothers (who we meet in the first book, Sovereign). And of course, Westin is going to get his girl, arranged marriage or not.

The relationship between Diane and Westin was spicy to say the least. Diane was witty and smart and she wasn't afraid of him. Westin made her strong and Diane made him soft - I loved that!!! The dynamic of the book was pure angst, Raya Morris Edwards writes cowboys like they are in her blood!

*** The timelines between Sovereign and Westin do overlap. You can read this book as a standalone but there are cameos from the first book and I do highly recommend reading Sovereign before diving into Westin***

The way this story was a bit more fleshed out than the first one , still same quality. It had me cheesing, gasped out loud sometimes at the 🌶 scenes, and at plottwist moments.

Please, Raya, never strop writing these types of man, gritty, but still soft??? Like the way Westin's personality came across the pages was just immaculate.

I have no words. Albeit I had to take a couple of breaks sometimes because of how intense /intimate some scenes could get. Was for real feeling like a third wheel (of fictional characters, mind you💀).

I'm gonna finish off with two emojis🧼 &🥃....goodbyeeee.

Westin River Quinn - be the man that you are!
Don’t we all just drool over a dark, brooding cowboy who falls for his woman and does everything possible to keep her?

Diane may be young, but she’s full of sass and can totally dish it out AND take it! She’s also freaking smart, brave and resourceful too. I think I was surprised that I enjoyed her character development even more than his. She overcomes so much. Also, they have such an interesting dynamic but their journey makes it all worth it in the end.

If you’re into dirty talking cowboys that will do just about anything for you (and to you - wink wink) this book is for you!

Oh, how I missed Sovereign Mountain Men.

Westin, I love him to pieces. He's just broken, but still so good and thoughtful. Que *but daddy, I can fix him* He's met his true match with Diane, and I absolutely love them together. Westin is such a sweetie but also a dark and depraved SOB.

“Have me, darling, trust me.” ...just 😩😭

Diane, I just want to hug her. Poor girl went through so much in a very short 21 years of life. Losing her parents, losing her Nana, an abusive POS older brother. More that I'm not going to say because you're supposed to read the book to find out 😉 But my girl pulls through and comes out on top.

“There seems to be some dispute over who you belong to, and I intend to put that to rest.”

"I’m not your girl.” "Yeah, you are.”

“You’re not all sass. I know there’s a good girl in there who can be sweet and beg for it.”

Absolutely loved Westin, 5/5 read. Put this on the tbr and read it yesterday.

It took one moment for Westin to be completely captivated by Diane, he wanted to make her his and he wouldn't stop before anything, not even by Diane marring his enemy.

//

I have mixed feelings about this, maybe because mid book I was probably in a reading slump, this one felt never-ending, the plot kinda went nowhere in the middle of it, nothing was happening really and I felt waiting on the time to pass with the characters.

A few thing had not much sense to me, I would have loved a different background story for Westin, the land where he lives (Sovereign Mountain) belonged to his father but when he died he decided to leave the land both to Westin and Gerard Sovereign? Why? lmao why is it named Sovereign Mt I really don't understand this choice, but anyways..

The time Westin spent apart when Diane was married to the Garrison, she went through A LOT, you telling me he had absolutely no idea and no thoughts whatsoever on what she could had possibly went through??? Visibly she was starved, overworked and tired, and don't let me start with the chance he could have saw the bruises.

I want to address even the existence of the 'catapult' lmao?? wth westin???

A few thing were redundant, when Westin thought about his father, Diane with her granma, always the same sentences on loop, their day-to-day life nothing was going on or at least always the same thing I had honestly no interest in reading.

Would have enjoyed much more knowing about Westin's past, what he did for the ranch given that Sovereign' part was more of a "businessman" and he was more of a "problem-solver", more about his list, more about what he did, more about how this influenced his current life with Diane ughhh
more about the Gunslinger 🔫
~more action more energy 🕺

And also I might have felt a little emotional detachment in the writing, the whole thing, plot, events, characters, were all so matter-of-factly.. things happening were written just like that not bothering to describe how that impacted emotionally on the people experiencing it. There were also moments really emotional and those were even more special having this "added bonus".

BUT- I think I also should praise it, from the first moment Westin saw Diane he was entirely enamored with her, completely obsessed and couldn't stay away. She was also captivated by him, she's a free spirit, so full of life and hope 🥹 I teared up a bit when they both went out with the horses omg my babies 💛
Westin was also willing to do everything to make her happy, everything but letting her go hehe~ I mean what he did at the end lmao a bit drastic but so final *chef's kiss*

Now I'm more and more interested in Deacon 👀 can't wait for his book

This is the second book in the Sovereign Mountain series and can be read as a standalone if you prefer, but it will give spoilers to the first book.

If I am rating on spice alone, this book is a solid 10/10. Raya Morris Edwards sure knows how to get those juices flowing. However, storyline wise I didn’t love this one as much as I did Sovereign. I think it had a lot to do with the fact that Sovereign had more eternal pieces moving and more mystery along with the fact that Diane and Westin spent the majority of the book separated and only met up for sex. Idk. It was still good, but it wasn’t great.

3.5, rounding up for the smut. A good book when you're in the mood for smut. I was in the mood then I wasn't, so I judged the latter half of the novel much more harshly. Raya Morris Edwards loves an age gap, so it's always 18 years old with 40 years old. It is not my trope at all, although I do enjoy the dirty taboo talk that comes with the territory.

Westin happens parallel to Sovereign, and the last 50% takes place after the important plot action in Sovereign in order to wrap up Westin and Diane's story. I didn't find Westin an attractive or swoon-worthy hero, because he sleeps with her right away, but wasn't able to help her. The climactic event where he waits outside to take her away, I just felt there had to be a better way of writing that, because I didn't feel sadness, just frustration he didn't go with her to the farm in the first place to help her pack up. While there were also *reasons* why he couldn't get his girl out of that situation right away, it just felt like he was continuing to sleep with her, acting the big bad dom, but not actually doing much.

It is unfortunate because we do get Westin's POV, so we know he has a plan and that he loves her, and is not wasting his time. But just because we are told that doesn't mean that it lands or is convincing.

I did like the forbidden wife kink, even though that was more of Westin being worried Sovereign, his friend and business partner would judge him for it, and there wasn't actually that much of angst.

He waited for her on the hill!!! Oh my heart!
Diane Carter and her brother David inherited their family farm after the passing of their grandmother but she didn’t know that. Westin set his eyes on Diane one time and INSTANTLY fell for her. Once she turned 21 Westin needed her for himself. That one taste had him craving for more. They would meet in secret and fall more in love with each other. But of course their love cannot come easy. Her brother sells her off like she’s fucking cattle to save their farm and the grave their family is buried in! Our man Westin is not having it. The deaths of her brother and husband is the only thing that will give her the freedom she wants and that is what he will do. I absolutely love Westin. His love, care, and awareness over her is everything. He saw her wearing clothes made from curtains so he buys her fabric! Love this man!

This is the 2nd book in the Sovereign Mountain Series.
I loved the 1st book and addictional novella Redbird. I had high hopes for this book and it didn’t disappoint. You are introduced to both Westin and Diane in this book, so you should read them first.

I personally don't think Westin is dark as Sovereign that being said Westin is still a morally grey, obsessive cowboy who won't let nothing stand in his way of getting what he wants. I think he might even be one of my favourite cowboys now!

I really hope we get Jenson and Deacon book in this series.

As always check your triggers before starting.

Westin (arc)
Raya does these dark cowboys so well. Sovereign had me captivated but I think Westin has won my heart. He’s the perfect morally grey character. He knew who he was and was honest with her about it. When he made a mistake, he owned up to it.

If sovereign was maybe a little too heavy for you, definitely check out Westin! Still check your triggers of course but I consumed this book.

I’m a sucker for a cowboy that uses the term “darlin.” I often forgot Diane’s name because I love that he called her that so much. She was the perfect FMC. She has a backbone and challenged him and he loved that. I loved it too. But even when her sacrificial spirit was broken she was able to trust Westin.

Such a good read.
