My dad sent me this book last week to review. I thought it was really excellent and want to recommend it. It's a pretty quick read, but would be excellent for a family devotional, and I hope we can use it once we finish with our current devotional. Really helpful, simple explanations and teaching about whether or not we can lose our salvation, how to deal with doubts, why to live a life of obedience, etc.
Great devotional we read with the kids! It was applicable to all ages, and had lots of great explanations and analogies. I wish each day included a specific passage to accompany the devotion, however it was full of quoted verses so we would just pick one of those to read around. Highly recommend this resource!
Questions are a good thing! This book proves that! 10 Questions about Salvation: 30 Devotions for Kids, Teens, and Families by Champ Thornton is a new devotional style book published by my favorite publishers, Crossway!
The book pointed out in the Bible that Jesus asked questions, in fact it says in Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John there are over three hundred places where Jesus asked questions and over one hundred times where He answered.
This book focuses on 10 questions, along with three daily devotional readings that go along with each question. That is what makes this book a 30-day devotional! Perfect for families to read together and discuss. We are using this as our nighttime devotional. Each reading is short, and provides a prayer and a question to discuss and reflect more on the lesson. In all this takes about 10 minutes. It is short, but meaty, and I like that, especially when we have busy evenings because of activities or work.
This book will help you to learn what salvation is and answers those questions you or your children may be pondering on about being a Christian. Such as:
What is salvation? Is Jesus the Only Way to salvation? How do I become a Christian? What does it mean to really believe? How can I be sure that I am a Christian? How should being a Christian affect my daily life? Since I’m a Christian, Won’t my struggle go away? If God is living and powerful, why doesn’t He just save everybody? How can I be sure that Christianity is true? Can I ever lose my salvation?
In addition, at the back of the book is a helpful dictionary of common Biblical words and a brief summary of the 10 questions for when you need a quick reminder. Overall, I really like the layout of this book and the daily devotionals.
I encourage you to pick this book up. It is the perfect family devotional or for a teenager or older person to do on their own. This book will be helpful in your faith walk, and I for one appreciate it! Be sure to check out the other book that is in this series 10 Questions About Pain and Suffering. It looks like there will be a few more books to come in this series!

Crossway and Netgalley have provided me with a copy of 10 Questions about Salvation for review:
This devotional is written especially for tweens, and it answers 10 important questions about salvation.
When you're young, finding answers to questions about religion can be difficult. There are some books that are too complex, while others don't delve deeply enough into the faith topics that matter most to kids and teens. Where can young readers grow in their understanding of God and his word?
The 10 Questions series provides reliable theological and practical answers on children's level to spiritual questions ages 8–14. In the first book, 10 Questions about Salvation, readers discover joy, security, and hope in God's gracious love. In each 10 Questions book, a main topic is introduced, followed by 10 vital questions, and each question is answered by three short devotions. Each of the 30 readings can be read in any order. Whether you read it alone or with family, 10 Questions about Salvation is the perfect way to start or end your day with reflection on the things of God.
Any Bible study would benefit from this book, which includes 30 devotional readings, prayers, and reflection questions.
The 10 questions range from the Bible's content to the experience of living your faith.
I give 10 Questions about Salvation five out of five stars!
First, it should be noted that I have extraordinarily strong feelings about how the gospel should be presented to the young generation (and how it shouldn’t), so I am extremely picky when it comes to these kinds of books, and was a little hesitant to request this for review because I didn’t want to give a negative review simply due to my personal beliefs and expectations. However, I was thankful to find this book covered the various aspects of salvation fairly well and gave me some food for thought. As usual with Crossway, it was designed and organized excellently. I personally would have liked for it to be a little deeper, but I can still say it was accessible without being shallow, and I believe many young people would find it helpful, or at least thought provoking and push them to do more research.
Now, I would not say this is a perfect resource. I thought that there were certain parts that could have been clearer and less...abstract? (E.g., repentance being explained as “turning away from your kingdom”). But perhaps people in the target age would find that style more engaging than someone older would. Also, one specific thing I really would have liked to see was the doctrine of propitiation being discussed or at least touched on a little by name, as I think that is the core of the gospel, but that is just my personal preference.
Overall, minor complaints aside, I did think this was a pretty solid read for kids or families to go through. It was theologically sound, and if you’re looking for a short little book with easy to grasp answers to common salvation questions for 8-14 year olds, I would recommend giving it a try, especially as a bridge to research the topics discussed in more depth.
***I received this book for free from the publisher (Crossway) in exchange for this honest review.***
This book is a blessing and encouraged me in my walk and faith. It's an outstanding resource for discipleship, small groups, or individual study. While the book is written for younger readers (ages 8 - 14), I believe readers of all ages would benefit from reading this book. It covers 10 key, common questions about salvation, i.e., What is Salvation, Is Jesus the only way to salvation, How do I become a Christian, and Can I ever lose my salvation? Each question is supported by daily devotionals that are clear, concise, and rooted in truth and the Gospel. Each devotional includes several scripture references, a prayer, and reflection questions which provide a great foundation for group or individual study. I would also recommend for anyone exploring or wanting to learn more about the Christian faith. Thank you to #NetGalley and #Crossway for the opportunity to review an advanced reader copy.
I worked through this book slowly with my 8, 10, and 11 year olds. The 11 year old had no problems tracking; the younger kids definitely needed more explanation and exhortation from me to do the mental work required.
Champ Thornton presents issues so clearly for younger readers. His book takes on some of the work of a catechism (without the memorization part): pithy, solid answers to common questions. The concepts are hard for even adults to wrap their heads around consistently, and I, too, benefited from his treatments of the issues he raised. Even the concept of this book is helpful to my kids' growing minds: Christians aren't afraid of difficult questions like "Why doesn't God just save everyone?" or "Can I lose my salvation?"
I don't think my kids are currently at the place where they appreciated just how valuable this volume is, but I'll be keeping it for reference because I'm sure it will help them (and me!) to flip to specific questions in the future.
This book is excellent. Our older daughter will be using it in a small group study this summer, and I think that it will be beneficial to her. There are, as the title points out, 10 questions about salvation (so ten chapters). In each chapter there are three days worth of devotions for the young person to read, pray about, and reflect on. Throughout the book are clear and concise definitions for words that may be difficult for a young person. Champ Thornton asks and answers these questions in a very simple, yet deep, and clear way. This is an excellent topic for young people who are exploring their faith, and is very well-written.
This book is our latest family dinner read aloud and it has been a fantastic experience for all four of us. Each of the ten questions has three days of devotionals to cover the topic. Each daily reading is bite sized but packed with biblical depth and understandable truth for our boys ages 10 and 12. Each reading includes a prayer and reflection question. I highly recommend this to parents of children aged 8-14. We will most certainly be reading the forthcoming books in this new series.
Thank you, Crossway Books for a complimentary copy of this book! All opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.
I think it’s a useful tool. The length and format is perfect for the intended age group, but some of the examples and questions felt a bit abstract - at least for my tweens who are currently 10 and 12. I think it is perhaps more suited to be a parent/ adult resource than a devotional for kids. If an adult is using it as a conversation guide, it might spark great conversations. I do think that it has real potential, with some intentional editing, to be a better fit for tween learners. I look forward to seeing how this series develops.
We read through this book as a family and really appreciated its manageable chapters. My daughters are 8 and 14, and while I think it was most helpful for my youngest, it still had application for my oldest daughter as well. My youngest also came to faith while we were reading through it, which may slightly color my opinion of this book. 😊
Went through it with my 7 year old. And I could totally see using it again in a few years. The chapters are short. They teach great points and build a really strong biblical case. They are empathetic and sincere. And I even came away with some more knowledge and better ways to simply explain deep truths.
