SPOILERS IN THIS REVIEW
This prequel to this book was SO incredibly good and ended on a gut wrenching cliffhanger that wrecked and destroyed Regan. Luke and Regan fell deeply in love in the prequel. Their connection was profound and so incredibly well written. Like— they were “sick” in love with each other. But Lucas rips her heart out at the end letting her believe it was all fake and a game to help his ex get revenge. Regan is so devastated that she transfers schools and it takes years to move on from him.
This book picks up immediately six years later when she walks into her new internship at a well known law firm and Lucas happens to be her mentor. So I’m thinking that Lucas has been haunted all these years knowing he destroyed the love of his life right??? NOPE!!!! He states in his internal thoughts that he “feels bad about what happened, but he doesn’t even think about her anymore”!!! WHAT?!??? And then on top of that, he has this horrible, cocky, arrogant attitude towards her. No remorse at all. So… right there, this book was kind of ruined for me. I wanted him to beside himself seeing her again— and he wasn’t. The only thing that made him go after her again was seeing her with another guy. In my opinion, he never did any true groveling to get her back. And then at the end there’s a totally lame HFN where they’re not even engaged or living together. This book had so much potential after that mind blowing (IMO) prequel, but this one was such a let down.

This has an interesting premise but fails on the execution. Chasing Forever is way too short to have any emotional strength behind it to allow the reader to have an emotional connection with the main couple.
Regan and Lucas have chemistry but they are very one-dimensional. At first Regan is so assured of her dislike for Lucas because of something horrible he did to her in college, 6 years ago. We have one flashback of how they met and then nothing more. It's all tell, tell, tell and no showing. This story would have benefited with flashbacks because we don't get a good sense why Lucas is so into Regan and why she fell for him.
Regan is very weak and gives into temptation with Lucas too fast. It just wasn't believable and a lot of the action leading up to their reunion and after falls very flat. There's no real dimension to this story at all and you're left scratching your head when all is said and done.
Perhaps if Chasing Forever was longer with flashbacks to show the initial emotional connection between Regan and Lucas, then maybe it would have worked out. Also the reason Regan ends up hurt by Lucas is very weak and never fully explained. Also Reagan's daddy issues because daddy is a jerk doesn't really fit here at all.
Pass this one up because it's a dud. 1.5 stars.

I loved the premise of this book; lovers reunite unexpectedly. I even liked Regan. I enjoyed her chemistry with Lucas as well. I didn't like Lucas as much as I'd hoped and even though he grew on me, I still didn't feel the level of connection I usually do. It really had to do with Lucas's actions when he first met Regan. I really would like to tell you exactly why, but that could spoil the book for those who haven't read it yet. There was a chat later that cleared up some of my questions but I didn't feel like they were strong answers.
I read it quickly but did have to put it down at the 55% mark because of Lucas. I was also expecting more resistance from Regan regarding giving in to her feelings for Lucas. I was also hoping for more clarification regarding Regan's parents. There were somethings mentioned at the beginning of the book that had bearing on Regan but then nothing afterwards.
I really felt as if Chasing Forever had a lot of promise. It was a quick and short enjoyable read. I haven't read anything by Lisa Cardiff in the past and look forward to seeing what else she's written/will write.

Lucas had never forgotten Regan…the one that he had let go through a stupid act or lack of action on his part. He had never been able to put her out of his mind, thoughts and dreams and now here she was working for him. It had taken all his will power not to reach out for her and take her into his arms. Did he regret Regan? No never she was that important to him and a part that would be forever inside him. How would he ever survive the summer working with her, seeing her each day and knowing that she was no longer his?
Lucas knows that he will have to work really hard to get Regan to forgive him for what had happened between them in the past. He was determined that she would forgive him and he would work hard to make her see that he really meant it. Regan was determined that she would never let anyone especially Lucas manipulate her again. She had fought long and hard to move past the betrayal he had inflected on her all those years ago. When Lucas had used her in a game designed by his girlfriend Olivia she had been totally unaware that she was being used. Olivia had enlisted Lucas to help her use Regan to get to her father and to discredit him as a professor at the university they all attended.
Lucas tries his best to prove that he really regrets what he did to Regan and would like to move past it. Put there could be someone else now in her life and that would leave him out in the cold. He also needs to deal with Olivia before he can fight for a relationship with Regan. He could no longer be friends with Olivia at the expense of losing Regan.
Will Lucas lose Regan to Parker? Is it too late for them to move beyond the mistakes made in the past? Will Regan give Lucas the chance to explain and will she listen to his heart and its confession of love for only her?

Regan starts a new internship thinking that she has left a painful part of her past behind only to come face to face with that past. She is working with Lucas the man that not only betrayed her, but humiliated her as well. She is refused a transfer without having to explain why and she can't leave without damaging her reputation, so she will have to work with him. Lucas feels extremely guilty for the part he played in what happened to Regan and desperately wants a second chance with her. He begins to pursue her with a passion while she resists. How long can she hold old? Not long as she still has feelings for him as well. Now they have to navigate the relationship with the extra baggage of wounds that haven't quite healed and people in their lives that may not understand how they could be together now.
I struggled along with Regan with what Lucas could be up to in this pursuit. In isn't like he has proven to be honest in the past. And I couldn't believe he was still talking and spending time with that girl (no I can't even bring myself to say her name - UGH). Family friend or not, she belonged on the curb.

The idea of the story was good but I didn't like how it was developed.
The heroin had a shattered life and love life frozen for more than 6 years while the bitch Olivia and the douche Lucas continued their lives as if nothing had happened.
He continued dating several women and having sex with them. Olivia continued friend of Lucas and part of his life. For me this was a true no. In any way acceptable.
And Regan accepted it very easily and it was just he make out that she spread her legs for him.
Very weak and spineless.

It’d hard to describe this book. It has so much promise, but for me, it failed to deliver. Lucas was so determined to declare his love for Regan in the prequel and then ruin her. Regan ran to get away, ran to another school, to another state vowing to never see him again, to heal and to forget he ever existed. She lied.
Regan betrayed herself. I’m all for forgiveness and redemption but it must be real…. not hearing a simple, ‘I’m Sorry’, and head straight to the bedroom with him. Why would she demean herself that way?
Now in this 2nd book, Lucas claims to have ‘feelings’ but they don’t show. He’s an ‘excuse maker’, not a man taking accountability for what he did. Is it his pride? Don’t know, but he is the one that needs a dose of reality, alongside Olivia. He takes no blame for his behavior that fateful night, saying it’s all Olivia’s fault. Sorry, but I didn’t see her holding a gun at his head. He chose to allow Olivia to do what she did, saying he ‘froze’. Uh, huh… suuuure he froze… and I have some really good swamp land for sale in Florida.
I didn’t ‘feel’ his remorse … Lucas came across as ‘get over it’, that happened six years ago. He claimed to love her but didn’t think twice about making her a laughing stock of his fraternity and the whole campus. I don’t buy he didn’t know about the YouTube video…. how did Olivia get the info to post if he didn’t cooperate? And the entire student body knew. What did he do, go around wearing ear plugs?
As for Olivia…. She’s manipulative, controlling, arrogant and selfish. She keeps playing the victim… it’s time for her to grow up by graduating from the School of Hard Knocks. And we need to ‘see’ that happen. But hey, Lucas falls prey to her fake tears every time. He’s a successful lawyer and he never ever saw through her?
And Drew can talk a good talk now but he sure did nothing to stop what happened.
No one, absolutely no one, paid any price for their ‘sins’. Olivia not only needs a comeuppance, she needs dethroned with the same degree of humiliation that she handed out to Regan.
Where was Lucas’ remorse or groveling? Him continuing to say ‘that’s in the past’ or ‘that was six years ago’ showed me nothing. I needed to feel his realization of the pain he caused Regan.
When Lucas realized Regan was gone and not coming back, why not find her? He had the means if he really wanted to. I really wanted to 'feel' bad for Regan but I couldn't. She was her own worst enemy. As for Lucas, how could he be trusted again when he's not looked in the mirror ... basically when all he says is he just 'got over it'. Where's the remorse, the realization of what he caused and could have stopped? But noooo, he still lets Olivia lead him by the leash... Oh yes, the last few pages he tells 'Livy' to get lost, but that's not nearly good enough.

Chasing Forever is the first book that I have read by Lisa Cardiff, and I found it to be enjoyable. I liked the characters and the story. I am a fan of second chance romance stories, and this one was entertaining and kept me interested. I did have a few things that kept me from rating this one higher, but overall this was a good story.
Regan Pierce is in law school and is starting her summer associate position with one of the best law firms in San Francisco. When she shows up to meet her mentor for the summer, she finds none other than Lucas Evanston the guy who humiliated her and broke her heart in college. Forced to work together, she makes an uneasy truce with him to try and keep things professional and to never bring up the past. But soon, their attraction and feelings from long ago are more than either of them can fight. Can Regan protect her heart and keep Lucas at arms length? Or will Lucas find a way to get Regan to give him a second chance and a shot at a future together?
I liked Lucas, but I didn't always understand him. I honestly still have no idea why he did what he did, and why he never spoke up and told Regan the whole story. It doesn't really make sense to me, and I have no idea what he was thinking. He was sexy though, and determined. I loved that he was so dedicated to getting Regan to change her mind about him and give him a chance. He was relentless, and I liked that he pursued her though everything. I also thought that he had some really sweet moments, and that he never forgot a single thing about her. He remembered all of her favorites and he even saved something from the first time that he met her and never went without it. Regan was easy to want to root for, but at times she also made it really hard to like her. She forgave Lucas really easily and yet then she would throw it back in his face at times. She also never gave him the chance to explain things and jumped to conclusions really easily. I kept wanting to smack her upside the head and tell her to just listen for once. I do understand that she had been hurt and had a lot of pain from everything that had happened, but you can't agree to give someone a shot one second and then constantly assume and judge the next second. It was a bit of whiplash, and even Lucas said as much in the story. I did think that they had great chemistry, and once they finally went there things were steamy between them.
I think that this was a good story, and I do think that Lucas and Regan were great together. I think that they fit well and you could feel the attraction between them. But I also feel like their past was dropped way too quickly and that their feelings were rushed. I wanted to see more of them working towards a future, and I felt like things were just resolved a bit too easily. I think that the past and everything that had happened between them was a bit anticlimactic for the reader because the characters just seemed to sort of brush it under the rug. I couldn't quite get behind the relationship because of how things were handled. I also felt like even though I hated Olivia, that she was pretty much a non-factor in this story. For being the villain and the one that we are supposed to hate, she had a fairly small part in the story, and was too easily vanquished. I was happy enough with the ending, but I do feel like we could have been given a bit more. I hope that in the next book things are a bit more resolved, because to me their story just felt unfinished. I do think that Regan and Lucas's story is one that a lot of romance fans will enjoy, and I am interested to read the next book in the series and see what else Lisa Cardiff has planned next.

Chasing Forever is my first book by Lisa Cardiff and I enjoyed it very much. It was well written and the characters were fairly enjoyable. There were some typos and grammatical mistakes, but I am willing to overlook them for the overall story.
Regan Pierce is on her way to graduating top of her class and has just snagged a coveted internship with a very famous law firm. She is well on her path to forgetting her painful past and toward a fresh start. That is until she meets the guy who pretty much ruined her life and broke her heart. Lucas Evanston. Her ex-boyfriend and her current boss.
Lucas Evanston met the woman of his dreams six years ago. And them he broke her heart so completely, she hates the very sight of him and will never trust him again. He thought he was over her. After all it has been six years since he broke Regan's heart and walked away from her. But life has other plans when it throws them together. Lucas finally has a chance to right his wrong and win back the trust and heart of the woman he loves more than life.
To be honest, I did not understand how Regan forgave Lucas so easily. After the way he used and turned her life upside down I expected there to be some more resentment on her part. Sure she has hated the guy for six years. And even when she first meets him at the law firm, she is quite volatile. But it doesn't take long for her to forgive him. I failed to sense in that probably because I wouldn't have done the same. But then again, I've never been in love.
I commended Lucas's determination. He was willing to do anything to right his wrongs. He stills loves Regan and was willing to go to any extent to win her back. He got a little illogical at times, expecting Regan to forgive him after saying he's sorry. I think he failed to see how monumentally Regan's life changed after his betrayal. He humiliated her in front of the whole college and even more people(there is a youtube video involved), he drove her out of town, he betrayed het trust and he belittled her feelings the first time around.
I liked the fact that Regan and Lucas's relation was not easy It was a bumpy ride as both of them were marred by the past. I loved how they navigated through the rocky slope and finally found their way to each other and made their relationship work. That more than anything made up for all my complaints regarding the book.
The one character I hated was Olivia. The real reason Lucas and Regan broke up in the first place. She was a real bitch. Even though she did not as such screen time as I thought she would have, I felt strongly towards her. She was a selfish, manipulative, egotistical, toxic woman. I hated the fact that Lucas was very gullible when it came to her. And the fact that I hated her in just the few pages she appeared is a plus for the author.
Parker was a really sweet and lovable character. He was Regan's best friend hoping to be more. He was understanding and sweet and just plain lovable. I really hope he gets a happy ending too.
Overall a very enjoyable read, with some really lovable and some really I-just-want-to-strangle-you-and-feed-you-to-the-dogs kind of character. Incidentally the two books I read before this one also dealt with characters where the guy had left a girl behind with a broken heart and came back for another chance. That's probably another reason why I found it hard to believe how easily Regan forgave Lucas. But I must admit, once they got together, they were explosive. They were really good together, fun, smart, intelligent and moreover, they complimented each other.
This definitely won't be the last book I read of Lisa Cardiff.

I love her reference on the “Red String of Fate” legend – because it was exactly appropriate for her story. FATE. It took six years for the both of them to find each other, they were living separate lives, and trying to erase all the memories, and leave them behind. Suddenly FATE makes it move and brought them back together.
I finished this in one sitting, couldn’t help but get hooked with it. The emotions were raw, and yes, vibrating on my reader. I loved the characters despite all their imperfections. Lastly, this book will make you realize that love, despite time, despite the mistakes, and despite the distance, once it is true, will never fade. Love can forgive, love can forget, love can overcome anything.

I really enjoyed this book, more than I thought I would. Mainly because, despite many sexy times, this book was about forgiveness. Forgiving someone that has wronged you in order to obtain the happiness you desire. I really appreciated Cardiff execution of the plot, for the most part.
Chasing Forever follows Regan Pierce, a second year law student and her journey of reconstructing her life after a humiliating college experience. When she begins an internship at a law firm, she encounters the person who was the cause of her humiliation. He works at the firm. Worse, he is her mentor.
Lucas Evanston, her mentor and ex-boyfriend, regrets what he did to Regan and wants to redeem himself and apologize to her because he never stopped caring about her. He's a cocky, overconfident, very attractive man; but he is also very likeable once you get past all of that.
Cardiff develops the plot of the story and the characters at a pace that I felt was good, especially given the limited number of pages in the book. I didn't feel like anything was too rush or inauthentic. I believe Lucas and his regret; I believed Regan and her pain. I think, if anything, I empathize more with Regan because Lucas, unknowingly, hurt her more than he realized.
Throughout the book, Regan and Lucas find a way to be more comfortable with each other, as they work together. Lucas played to Regan's weaknesses really well, forcing her to grow as a law student. Regan's strengths played well to Lucas' weaknesses, especially when it came to showing him that the past does matter. Regardless of whether he meant to hurt her or not.
My favorite character in this book is probably Lucas' best friend, Drew. Men like Lucas - strong-willed, stubborn, in powerful positions - need friends like Drew. To cut the bullshit before it begins. And I really enjoyed Drew when he would help Lucas process through his feelings.
The relationship development between Lucas and Regan was decent. At time, it did seem a bit too fast. But the length of the book made up for that, because it was so short.
As characters, I feel like both parties developed to an okay level. There were moments where it teetered on the unrealistic side. There were moments when I got so unbelievably frustrated that I wanted to not care about the outcome for either of them. But ultimately, I enjoyed the book. The ending wrapped everything in a nice shiny bow. There was closure.
Books like these are very good a showing the power of forgiveness. The limitations you place upon yourself until you extend your hand in forgiveness. Personally, I think Regan was a fantastic character in that regard. He decision-making may have been lacking, but her heart and her strength of forgiveness was awesome to witness.
Cardiff did a decent job with this book and it does make me want to read more of her stuff.

Yikes! Talk about an internship from Hell! Well kinda. When you’re boss is super hottie and charming Lucas Evanston, it’s hard to call it anything but heaven. Unless you’re Regan, of course, who got her heart broken ala Cruel Intentions style. I loved how we got to flash back for a few chapters to see how the two of them met and got involved. But this is after we know that they had a very bad falling out. We don’t get to know how they broke up until later on, and it really is such a shame that Lucas didn’t fight harder.
Well, he’s certainly trying to make up for lost time now! While I loved how he kept pursuing her—even when he had competition and he knew that boss plus intern equals job-threatening office scandal—he had a lot to atone for! I wanted to smack him whenever he acted jealous and *especially* when he was like ‘eh, it’s in the past. Let’s move on.’ Sure, it’s easy to say that when you’re the one who was in the wrong!
I liked how strong Regan is, felt bad for what Lucas put her through, and cheered for her throughout the book. I do feel like she let him off the hook easily many times, and some of those times where she got hurt could have easily been prevented if Lucas really thought things through. It was sad seeing how bitter and angry she was (although understandable given what she believes) thinking that Lucas didn’t care about her, while Lucas struggles with his feelings, because he does care. And unfortunately, he has no idea how to fix things.
It’s an entertaining read, and I absolutely loved Regan! The heat is med-high with sexual tension between these two loves with some serious baggage coming between them—the same baggage badly packed by them. Plus, there’s the whole no fraternizing at work thing, which is a bit of a wrinkle when trying to reconcile. The story is standalone with no cliffhanger although I wish there was more in the epilogue! Overall, this is a 3.5 out of 5 for me!

So this was a nice story about two people who happened upon each other many years after a horrible break-up. Regan, the one who got her heart broken so many years ago by Lucas, can't believe that she has to spend her summer working under her ex. She had even switched schools after their horrible break-up. Lucas, on the other hand, can't believe that he's getting a second chance to try to win her back. The chemistry between the two is so electric that you can't fault Regan for giving into Lucas' charming ways. I was still conflicted, though. For most of the story, I was inwardly groaning at the fact that she was falling for all his cliche moves. She seemingly had no will-power when it came to Lucas. I can relate to that. I just assume that there's always one person in life that you just have that soft spot for, no matter how badly things may have turned out for you in the past. Though I was cringing at every mention of "six years ago" by the end of the book, it was still nice to see that there can be happy endings when its least expected--six years later!!

Meet Lucas and Regan. They meet almost 6 1/2 years ago while in college. And once Regan spoke to Lucas he knew he wanted to know more about this young women.
Now 6 1/2 years later they come face to face again and Regan is a different women. Hurt by Lucas all those years ago has changed her. Or so she thought.
Lucas has regretted what happen all those years ago and would have done anything to rewrite history. Now May fate is giving him his chance.
As I was not in love with the way the story went I did like what the author wrote. I found it had enough pull to keep you wanting more. It could have had a little more of the dramatics. I would recommend this book to other though. If I had to describe the book with one word I would go with cute.

I had a few problems with this one. I found in hard to get through the book, because there were no twist or turns in the story. Also, it felt like a sequel instead of the first book in a series.
The majority of the book is told 6 1/2 years after Lucas devastated Regan while in college. The details of the devastation isn't explored fully. The book gives bits and pieces of the college relationship that happened and how it ended. I wanted more about this relationship. Regan goes 6 1/2 years without intimacy with another man because of the effect of this failed relationship. Why????? Lucas has a keepsake of Regan in his wallet for 6 1/2 years, but he never tries to find her?

This as a 3.75 book. It was good, but had more potential.
I would have loved to get a little more back story from their previous dating and all that it entailed. We got the summary and I did love that.

I felt Regan's pain and I just found it so unfair that I didn't feel Lucas's suffering. I mean it's his fault and I felt like he had it easy the whole time!
