When Gene was freed from prison, he was more than happy to join Austin’s Owl Parliament. After all, Gene’s childhood family had exiled him and turned their backs, leaving Gene nowhere to go. He was a nobody. A floater. Just a whisper in the wind.
Ever since Gene joined the Parliament, Leon finds he is drawn to the newcomer. But there are just a few problems, as Gene is smart-mouthed, snarky, cocky, never listens to orders, and has more attitude than a four-year-old who has been denied his candy.
Then an unexpected threat comes from Gene’s past and threatens his life. Will Leon be able to save him? If so, will he be able to overcome all his fears in order to claim Gene as his?

We have the introduction of a new enemy.. kinda cool. But it's lame! There's no real explanation, a vague one but no background. They seemed fairly overcome by the parliament with of course some MINOR wounds. Basically the potential given at the beginning wasn't followed thru in much for the rest of the story.
Oh and the MC's.. well we have a moment of snark between them and then basically everything is hunky dorry between them besides being able to get down and dirty. THAT comes at the end. Nothing spectacular or moving about it besides actual prep time is involved.
Perhaps I'm being too hard but these are my first impressions and thoughts after completion. I just found it to be kind of blah...
Praying mantis is such a cool and unique shifter animal, or bug, if you will. However, in this story they were out for revenge and going after poor Gene. I love how Gene and Leon came together realizing that they were mates. All of the characters are so precious and well conveyed. The story had danger, some action, and of course love. I loved it. Awesome read. =)
Since being rescued by Austin’s Owl Parliament, Gene has found it difficult to find his place in the group. Determined to pull his weight, he’ll even get a job to help out. Leon’s been drawn to Gene since he’s joined them and to keep Gene out of trouble, he’s willing to keep the other owl close by forcing him to help Leon. But while life has settled down a bit, Gene’s past comes roaring back with a new threat that he doesn’t even understand. A threat even more dangerous than enemy owls.
Oh man. This story, it was so cute! I just adored Gene and Leon. Gene is a smart-mouthed, irritating little thing that has no issues with saying whatever he wants and pouting when he doesn’t get his way. Leon is his opposite and pretty much of the ‘no bullshit’ attitude. The two are drawn to each other and I loved that they weren’t circling around their feelings but instead were just waiting to be able to act on them without the whole Parliament hearing them bond.
My issues with this one are pretty much the same as they were with An Owl Surfaces. The story is cute and quick but it lacks the depth and development to really make it a great story. The characters are charming but they have no characterization to them so they’re still a mystery when the story is over. On top of that, I have a ton of questions about the creatures that were chasing Gene and exactly why they were doing so. Or, more to say, exactly what ‘crime’ was done to them to warrant their threat and what happens next.
Overall, this was a cute little story that was a ton of fun to read. I loved seeing Gene and Leon get a story because they both intrigued me in the previous book. The book is a fast read and has a bit of action to it and I did like the plot even if it wasn’t as developed as it could have been. I sincerely wish this one had been longer because I would have loved to see more of the connection between Gene and Leon and the banter that was in this story. A longer book with more details would have made this one even better but I won’t deny I’m enjoying this series :)
Settled in yet another small home Austin’s Owl Parliament continues to survive and stand strong against all the homophobic Owl Parliaments who kicked out each member of their little group.
Their newest outcast, Gene who they rescued from prison is still surprised that they went to the trouble of saving him. He’d been in the owl prison for about five years and before that he’d bounced from one Parliament to another because of his smart mouth and attitude. The final straw was finding out that he’s gay.
In an attempt to bring needed income to the group Gene accepts a job as a go-go dancer at a gay bar. Without any real skills it’s the only job he can find. Plus it will get Gene out of the house and away from the object of his nightly naughty dreams, Leon, another member of Austin’s Owl Parliament.
Gene’s first day as a go-go dancer is a debacle. Leon does have feelings for their newest member and watching strangers pawing him doesn’t go down well. With emotions running high it doesn’t help to learn that a group of praying mantis shifters are after Gene because of his family name. Dodging homophobe owls and now a bunch of crazy bugs, what’s next to stop Gene and Leon from bonding?
Take a wild ride with snarky birds in Taming an Owl. A fast paced story with engaging characters whose whirlwind adventure never ends. In book two of the Flushing Owl series Gene’s unknown secrets are revealed as Leon comes to the rescue. Spoiler alert: Gene and Leon work things out, but nothing else is resolved. Spicy and passionate Taming an Owl cements the mates’ relationship but leaves everything else hanging until the next story.

Very frustrating. Just like the first book, it felt like it ended in the middle. Really it feels like I read the first couple of chapters of an actual book, instead of an actual book. I thought this book would put an ending to the first or at least expand upon the first one, but nope. So now there are 2 completely different plots and enemies, but yet we don't know anything about either enemy except they want them dead. Who are they? Why are they after them? There is no background or hints at one either. Right when they find out they are mates the books ends. Well shit I could have just read the blurb and known they are mates. Why waste my time when nothing at all is explained or happens. If you want to know anything about this book or the firstbook, I highly recommend reading the blurbs, it tells the entire story. Save your 3 dollars for an actual book.
I feel like I'm being generous with this 3 stars. *SIGH*.... Ya know the thing that bothered me the most was the dialogue. It was stale and robotic and lifeless...With stale dialogue how do you believe in the characters? TBH I was actually happy to see this second installment. I was intrigued by the series plot to begin with but...well... here we are. .. The characters had potential and i think that the series still has potential. Since this author is consistent in her "hit or miss-ery" chances are the next one will be a hit!
