Hannah Starr finds herself in the same demise as Rylee Cooper when the Universal Army searches for her, hunting her down like a criminal, when the only thing she did was to refuse to accept the government's ruling. Is this how Rylee, her friend who disappeared months ago, felt when she escaped into the wilderness, running from the hands of the government? Hannah’s only choice is to run or be killed. How will she survive the wilderness alone, with no food or water, and desperately looking for her friend?
Rip Maxwell pushes aside his anger and the need for revenge to help a dark-haired beauty, lost in the wilderness. Why is she running? No one comes to the wilderness unless they are escaping a fate worse than death. He knows the wilderness will not let her survive without his help.
He admires her gutsy determination, but she doesn't trust him enough to tell him her reason for running. He doesn't blame her, after all, he has his own secrets.
I write historical western romances under Judy Baker, and you will find all my contemporary novels under Anna Sugg.
I'm a southerner at heart and a westerner wannabe. Coming from Tennessee, I moved to the west to teach school and fell in love with the state of Nevada. Its desert colors, smell of wet sage after a rain, and the intriguing stories around ghost towns captured my heart. I'm a coffee drinker, love chocolate, hot weather, and sitting on the beach, staring at the ocean waves rolling in.
I really liked this book. Shadow a dog that connected to her in the wilderness was every bit one of the main characters as Hannah and Rip were. It's everything you want in a great read. Lots of intense scenes, where you have to turn the page to see what's next. Many times Shadow saved the day. Hannah and Rip had chemistry from the moment they met. Great romance! I highly recommend this book.
Hannah has a tough decision to make: can she escape being injected with a chip that will track her every move for the rest of her life? Ms. Baker’s talent for suspense continues in the second book of her End of the Beginning series. And she doesn’t disappoint in joining new characters and revisiting characters from the first book to weave a story of resilience and human strength.
A good telling of the future, apocalyptic story. When the government wants to control everyone, the freedom of speech, ones who oppose are eliminated. Both books are good, but I feel like there’s a missing ending. A good wholesome book I enjoyed reading.
