“Sometimes, it’s hard to see beyond what you’ve been taught to believe. It’s difficult to put yourself first when loyalty to your parents has always been your main priority.”
“Bound by Darkness,” by Jessica Lee Sheppard
Izzy is still fighting to find her place in the world she lives in by finding out more about her soul mate, Dax. On a mission to find a dark artifact she reunites with Dax and together they join to claim the artifact and figure out how they will be together again long term.
So first off, this series reminds me a lot like Alice in Wonderland but mix in Greek lore, magic and supernatural creatures. I think the plot and the characters fit the YA mold. The characters were just very innocent, and the plot wasn’t super deep, so I think it fits with YA’s.
From the first book to the second book in the series I would say Jessica Lee Sheppard’s writing has gotten so much better. The first one was a bit rough to read, I thought the main character in particular was kind of annoying and how many times she touched her hair was so aggravating. Izzy was way more likeable in book 2 Lol. I did really like seeing how much better the writing got between the two books.
The plot was interesting and geared for people who like to read really adventurous stories. It had a lot of different places they went to and was fast paced with it so it is a good book for readers who like many locations with lots of different people and creatures they meet along the way.
All in all, it was a good book 4 out of 5 stars. I would loved to see more of a conflicted romance than there was.
