“Sometimes, it’s hard to see beyond what you’ve been taught to believe. It’s difficult to put yourself first when loyalty to your parents has always been your main priority.”

“Bound by Darkness,” by Jessica Lee Sheppard

Izzy is still fighting to find her place in the world she lives in by finding out more about her soul mate, Dax. On a mission to find a dark artifact she reunites with Dax and together they join to claim the artifact and figure out how they will be together again long term.

So first off, this series reminds me a lot like Alice in Wonderland but mix in Greek lore, magic and supernatural creatures. I think the plot and the characters fit the YA mold. The characters were just very innocent, and the plot wasn’t super deep, so I think it fits with YA’s.

From the first book to the second book in the series I would say Jessica Lee Sheppard’s writing has gotten so much better. The first one was a bit rough to read, I thought the main character in particular was kind of annoying and how many times she touched her hair was so aggravating. Izzy was way more likeable in book 2 Lol. I did really like seeing how much better the writing got between the two books.

The plot was interesting and geared for people who like to read really adventurous stories. It had a lot of different places they went to and was fast paced with it so it is a good book for readers who like many locations with lots of different people and creatures they meet along the way.

All in all, it was a good book 4 out of 5 stars. I would loved to see more of a conflicted romance than there was.

Thank you so much for the free copy, Librarything, Jessica Lee Sheppard, and Sheplen Press Publishing.

Suspenseful Sequel

In the suspenseful sequel, Bound By Darkness, readers will find themselves on an emotional rollercoaster as the stakes are raised in both action and depth. Fans of the series will be hooked by the intricate world-building and the evolving relationship between Izzy and Dax, making this a must-read continuation for all. The author skillfully delves deeper into Izzy's tumultuous world as she confronts supernatural forces, dangerous foes, and her spirit guide's attempts to erase her memories of Dax. With a perfect balance of heart-racing adventure and poignant moments, Izzy's inner commotion is just as compelling as the external dangers she faces.

Being that this is book 2 may be why I didn't know what was going on, but I just couldn't follow along at all. None of the characters were interesting, the FMC was quite passive, and what the FMC does didn't connect with the events in the prologue/the big baddies. Like, why did she go on that quest? How does that relate to what's going on? It felt like there was no purpose. Just meandering characters.
Everything seemed disjointed.

A mind bending dark tale!

Author, Jessica Lee Sheppard, has an imagination for the dark and mysterious when it comes to telling a story! In her sequel, “Bound by Darkness: The Adventures of Izzy Adams”, her MC is at it again! With endless travels through sleep and into crevices of the mind, the author weaves a very unique narrative that eventually lands in the soul world.
Thus comes the story, “Bound by Darkness”.. and very deserving!
WELL DONE!!

Very imaginative

The character development is good and the author made me care about them, and the storyline was very imaginative. However, I found it disjointed and a bit too fantastical to take seriously, but perhaps that's just me.
