The next book of the series! The Order of Architects (Book 6):
The people of the principality of Liechtenstein have long wished for independence, but the Empire has always had its own plans for the country. The neighboring states, meanwhile, have kept a constant eye on the principality, as if it were their own property.
What’s more, the internal conflicts between the country’s aristocrats have shown no sign of abating. Was it really a good idea to stir up this hornets’ nest? Well… they only have themselves to blame!
Several small errors in continuity but more telling is a sense of repetition and a lack of engaging plot. This whole book felt like filler. The increased price, failure to maintain the mix of humour, character development and what seems lazy inclusion of the female lead as an object with little character left me regretting the money spent. The rolling sense of excitement and adventure from the earlier books seems to have wilted in order to churn out more of the same to extract excessive cash. Disappointing direction after a promising start. It’s also expected in this day and age that female characters have a role other than as possessions for the protagonist.
The protagonist pisses off both old enemies and makes new ones. Most of the book was only so so but in the end the plot livens up. The book ends on a cliffhanger though..
Criticism and comments
The parents intrigue plot confused me. I didn't quite understand how they are supposed to gain ownership over half of the son's business..
Loading the catapult outside would not work while they are under the attack of the fire mages as only the buildings are protected.
The series sorely lacks pets like Kookie or the legendary Shnoop (from the other series of the author).
Unfortunately, for me it felt like the author artificially aggrandises the protagonist at cost of the side characters too much, thus rendering them into mere personified plot devices who constantly swoon over him..
It sounds to me like the rebels probably killed more of their own people than the Empire. And his whole thing about slowly defeating Ivanov was stupid he should just have ended it already, but no, we still have another book. And then you had that little excerpt with the Chinese boy that led nowhere at all. What was the point of that little excerpt it was stupid
Honestly Theodore is just starting to come off as arrogant and spoiled. The story itself is awesome, some of the thought process of the characters come off as juvenile, but that could be translation issues. Then there's Theodore, who's supposedly this bad ass former ruler as he so often reminds us of in his thoughts but who always plays games with every situation instead of just solving them. It's getting a little boring. Especially when all his games seem to do is put his family and friends who he cares about so much in more danger then necessary. In other words he's acting more arrogant then smart. He's supposed to be this experienced guy with lifetimes of knowledge but he's behaving like a 20 year old. While simultaneously getting mad everytime the people around him get put into danger, the danger he keeps letting happen because he's being arrogant and immature. It's just starting to make less sense to the character he's supposed to be.
in these long series that have more than just a couple of books in them some kind of recap chapter is definitely needed to jog your brain about what happened in the last book. a lot of these pick up right where they left off. so recap chapter would definitely help the reader. the Babylonian finally declares war or I should say has war declared on him, but he handles it with style just like he does everything else. I find it very interesting that he restores antiques I think that is a cool twist to the normal plot line where they're just chasing power. I enjoy this series, but this is a review based off of the arc that I received. I did send a list of corrections to the publisher. hopefully you will have a smooth read. I give it an 8 out of 10.
Well, it looks like this is the halfway point in the story, but it also looks like the number of people who wish the main character harm aren't really diminishing very much, although accidentally, that might have happened in this one. It's always amusing to watch the things the main character and his crew get up to in the story. Just trying to mind their own business, but nobody is surprised I'm sure when that doesn't work out quite right. Looking forward to the next book in the series.
When it comes to a sequel and basically looking for everything that made the last book worth reading and then a little more. The series is not Flawless but then what is. I've enjoyed the story thus far, but I absolutely 110% detest Cliffhangers. This specific book ends in something of a cliffhanger. Fortunately for me the sequel is set for an English release in about a week's time from when I am leaving this review. Of course that also brings up the simple fact that a cliffhanger really is only a problem the first time through a story. Hopefully this is not a reoccurring thing for the remainder of the series.
Quite frankly to many bad guys and the MC has his booty hanging out all over the place. Yes these are supposed to be shadow wars but the opposition keeps doing daylight or night assaults. The death toll has exceeded a thousand which even in a city boiling with Revolution is very noticeable. Yet all the bad guys keep going "He is a young punk from the capital"... Spy masters can count you know. Even when troops disappear they are counted as dead....
The Order of Architects was another wild ride. The world-building is really coming into its own—the movement of factions, shifting forces, and growing complexity make everything feel more intense and immersive. Power accumulation is clearly becoming a major factor now, which makes it even more exciting to see what the main character is going to build next. Whatever it is, it’s going to be something worth seeing.
Too Much that Does Not Make Any Sense!! To many contradictions and inconsistencies breaking continuity and so on.
Having.. Lost the plot is referred to and is just about what it seems like the author has done.
I am also starting to wonder if more is getting lost in translation than I had thought and if also actual new/added errors are creeping into the text in the process.
I like this series. It’s fun to see what new shenanigans are in each new book. I just wish they were longer. It’s hard to wait for each new installment
I am loving this series. I found this book did not seem to have the cadence as the others. It was still very informative and we can see how Theodore duties are expanding at an exponential rate.
