Ivy Lawson is back in New York City planning a red-carpet charity event for Sparks Wellness. She jumped at the chance to lead the project, even though it means spending a few weeks away from home — and from her grumpy lodge owner, Holland Holt.
Although life has changed since her fateful stay at The Emerald Canopy Lodge, Ivy still can't shake the feeling that if something can go wrong, it will.
Meanwhile, Holland is back at the lodge, dealing with his own challenges, including a life-changing decision he needs to make. He’s been keeping it a secret from Ivy, which has only made things more difficult.
Just before the charity event, Ivy and Holland manage to spend a few days together, but a severe snowstorm hits, bringing ice and chaos. What can be salvaged? And what will be lost?
When the Snow Settles by Rachel Laberge is the perfect novella for anyone who’s fallen in love with Ivy and Holland and wanted just a little more time with them. This story gives readers a sweet glimpse into their lives and relationship as they navigate the next year together, and it does not disappoint!
Ivy and Holland are seriously the cutest duo, with a chemistry that feels so natural and heartfelt. The author does a fantastic job of showcasing their growth as a couple while still maintaining the playful, tender dynamic that made us root for them in the first place.
The pacing is quick but never rushed, and the cozy winter vibes make it an ideal read for a chilly day. If you’re a fan of warm, slice-of-life romances with just enough depth to tug at your heartstrings, this novella is a must-read.
Would I recommend it? Absolutely! It’s the perfect little companion piece to the main story—short, sweet, and oh-so-satisfying.
This was the cutest, most wholesome but spicy novella. We get to take a trip back to The Emerald Canopy Lodge and I loved it. Ivy and Holland are back and in relationship bliss. Except Ivy is working harder than before and Holland is keeping a secret. This was such a good time.
I love novella's like this. As short as they may be, there is a story there. There is a plot and character development and romantic development. There is substance!! We get amazing spice and it just fits in so perfectly with the flow of the story.
I've been reading Rachel's work since I ARC read for her first book and I've always loved her writing. But I think she just keeps getting better and better with each one. I really loved how this was written.
I found myself wanting to keep reading. Love me some short chapters! It helps that we get some drama but even better, we get healthy communication.
Holland was the star of the show for me here. I remember loving him but ahhh I think I love him more now. What he does for Ivy is so sweet and ugh, I just love seeing them happy. I feel like once the two MCs fall in love their story can sometimes get boring but not here! I was fully invested. I was fully in love with their wholesomeness.
This was such a beautiful edition to the A Lodge Affair world.
Also, keep an eye out for some fun little surprises towards the end!!
Another book from Rachel that I really enjoyed. No surprise there! Thank you so much Rachel for the ARC copy! <3
This holiday novella has Holland and Ivy along with their puppy Slate. Holland is the owner of a lodge in the Pacific Northwest and Ivy works part remote and part in NYC where she plans events.
This story has the couple snowed in and at first dealing with some difficult relationship issues but then learning to grow and love even harder, stronger.
This was a sweet, quick read and I love the characters! They were relatable and this was just enough of a story, plot with a good dose of spice for a novella!
The way I could read about Ivy and Holland forever. Loved this little novella of them making their relationship work on the their terms without losing themselves. Ivy is really finding herself and her strengths and I love it. Holland making space for people and learning to communicate? Chefs kiss. Also loved the cameos! Perfect holiday update!
“The softness in his voice makes me ache for him, for my real home, his arms around me.“
This novella was sweet and swoony with enough spice to melt you on a cold winter day. It takes place after The Lodge Affair. We go back to the lodge with Ivy and Holland and their story is so real and wholesome.
✨Ivy is a character I found myself relating to. As someone with anxiety, a lot of her thoughts mirrored mine. She is confident and brilliant with her job, but underneath she still has some self doubts. I loved watching her work through every moment and realizing that everything she does is more than enough.
✨Holland is the grumpy lodge owner. He seems closed off unless you’re Ivy. If he had an icy heart, she’s the one who melted it. There isn’t anything he wouldn’t do for her. I loved how he would help her work through her emotions and seemed to always know what she needed.
“He leans his forehead to mine, and says, “But then there’s you. You, just, make my life.”
When The Snow Settles: ❄️ Snowed in 🩵 Grumpy lodge owner mmc ❄️ Cute animal 🩵 Dual pov ❄️ Anxiety rep 🩵 Swoony moments ❄️ Spice
Thank you so much @rachellabergeauthor for the ARC! 🫶🏼
4.5 stars! The way my heart was so happy to be back at Emerald Canopy Lodge with Holland & Ivy!! I’ve missed these two, and I loved getting to be back with them—they’ve got my favorite dynamic with showing up for each other, Holland helping to ground Ivy. They’ve got some big stressors to deal with, but I love the mental health and therapy rep in this one with how they communicate through the challenges. This was the perfect quick read to be back in the world Rachel created, and I loved it!
[ARC from Rachel in exchange for an honest review]
This was my first book by Rachel LaBerge but it won’t be my last! Loved this super sweet novella. A nice light and fun read. I’ve been reading thrillers mostly this month and this was a bit of sunshine!
i can’t believe i got to see more of them in this book and see how much their relationship grew. holland is quite literally the best book boyfriend ever, he’s so thoughtful and considerate. 😭
seeing all the side characters again made me so happy! bea’s such a delight. 🥹
Our faves Ivy and Holland, from A Lodge Affair, are back in this winter novella. Ivy is traveling back and forth for a big work event in NY. While Ivy is away for a few weeks, Holland receives a big business decision that is weighing heavily on his mind. When Ivy returns for a few days before her event, she gets snowed in, unable to return to make sure things run smoothly. Ivy is freaking out, and as much as Holland wants to tell her about the business decision, he doesn’t want to overwhelm her more.
This novella was so sweet and a perfect start to cozy, bundle-up season! I loved A Lodge Affair and jumped at the chance to read more of Ivy and Holland’s story. Holland is a pro at supporting Ivy through her anxieties and remains to be another great book bf I’ll never have 🥲
“The softness in his voice makes me ache for him, for my real home, his arms around me.”
Genre: Holiday Winter Romance Tropes: Snowed in, Refined Grump, Small Town, Mental Health Rep
This Holiday Cozy Winter novella has main character Ivy, Holland and Slate (their adorable puppy). Ivy works part remotely and as an event planner at Sparks Wellness in New York but lives in Washington with her boyfriend Holland so there’s lots of flying back and forth between her actual home and job. Holland is the grumpy lodge owner of The Emerald Canopy Lodge and may be keeping a big secret from his girlfriend Ivy, will this secret tear them apart as a couple for not consulting with her first or will they work through it like the healthy couple they are?
This was the cutest most wholesome quick novella with the right amount of spice I’ve ever read. I really loved the side characters so much Viv and Bea they are the realest of friends. I especially loved the scene where Holland comes up with and idea and surprises Ivy and of course he asks her friends Bea and Viv to be in on the surprise and it melts Ivy’s heart that they were able to pull this off despite Ivy not being present due to canceled flight from it snowing so much but they all still managed to make Ivy happy and feel special with the extra surprises that comes with it. Truly such a bittersweet moment how everyone came together to do this for our sweet Ivy. Holland wins the best boyfriend award for this 🏆❤️ really enjoyed how this story had healthy communication overall between the main characters <33 loved to see that!! Their character and romantic development felt all so natural.
Thank you to the author for my e-book copy! Now on my way to read A Lodge Affair because I couldn’t get enough of Ivy and Holland and need to know how they met and how their story unfolds from there 🥰
“Out of everything in the world, the thing I know I want is you. Forever. No matter where that is,”
This was truly the most perfect novella I’ve ever read. To see a glimpse of what life looked like for Ivy & Holland after their book ‘A Lodge Affair’ ended. Like it was truly a dream as a reader to see what happened with this couple after their story ended.
Although it was a short book it had such a good story line, all the spice, and the most perfect cameos from our fave frenchie Slate!
Rachel LaBerge’s books are such comfort reads for me, because they are so warm and cozy. She has created the perfect ambiance at the Emerald Canopy Lodge, and the perfect set of main characters and side characters who all feel very real. Also the cameo from Willow and Trip from ‘Your Play to Call’ was so good, I was screaming!!!
I can’t recommend this series enough. If you haven’t picked up ‘A Lodge Affair’ yet you need to do it, and when you’re done snuggle up with ‘When the snow settles’ to see the sweetest ending for Ivy & Holland.
This novella was everything I needed and more. Be sure to read "A Lodge Affair" before picking up this novella!
Ivy & Holland's love story is so wholesome. Being back at The Lodge is like visiting again with an old friend. Snuggled up with this book was the perfect place to be on a cold, rainy day when I read it.
Rachel, there's something about your writing that is incredibly relatable. I think in a world where a lot of us deal with anxiety, stress, and mental health battles, you do a phenomenal job giving that representation through Ivy's character. I hope anyone who battles with their mental health has a person like Holland who is always by their side reminding them that they are worthy of love, patience, and a beautiful life.
As always, the opening lines of Rachel's books are KILLER. I'm obsessed an always hooked from the start.
Do yourselves a favor and pick up A Lodge Affair and When the Snow Settles. You'll feel like you're being wrapped up in a warm hug after reading both of these.
And I'll leave you with two swoony quotes -
"Holland, and the way he loves me, is the slow walk I didn't know I need."
5⭐ forever and always😍 I am so happy to be back in this world and see all the familiar characters, Rachel's books feel like a second home to me at this point. Holland is absolute perfection, and the way he completely takes care of Ivy (including making sure she eats in the midst of her hyperfixations) reminds me so much of my own man☺️
I will never get enough of Ivy and Holland, and especially Slate and Bea! All of these characters have such an important place in this story, and they make me smile every time I read about them. Also, shout out to Bailey at Wildflower Fiction for being the first indie bookstore to have Rachel's books! Both of these ladies are absolute icons👏🏻
This book will be available on October 18th! Thank you so so much to Rachel for the early copy!
✨TW: this book contains cuss words and topics of anxiety, sexual content, panic attacks, and mentions of sexual assault and death of a sibling.
This book was so relatable for me. Being a workaholic. The pressure and anxiety. How a strong support system makes all the difference. And I appreciated that both characters pursued therapy. It’s so nice to see.
Ivy and Holland have a great relationship and I can’t forget Slate (French bulldog). This is a cute and fun read. Perfect fall/winter vibes. Cozy and sweet. I really enjoyed the banter. When the Snow Settles is a standalone and although not necessary I really wish I would’ve read A Lodge Affair first. I think it would only enhanced the story.
“Holland, and the way he loves me, is the slow walk I didn’t know I needed.”
“Out of everything in the world, the thing I know I want is you. Forever. No matter where that is,”
“The place I took her when we first met and she reached down, looping her pinky with mine. The place where I started falling in love with her.”
Thank you to Rachel Laberge for gifting me an ARC copy of this novella for review!
When The Snow Settles is the perfect accompaniment to the first novel, A Lodge Affair. I really appreciate Laberge’s loyalty to her characters, making them realistic and relatable to who they would be as real people instead of changing them to meet the stereotypical romance expectations. In this novella, Ivy is going back and forth between New York and the Emerald Canopy Lodge in PNW for work, and Holland has been given an offer to sell the lodge that he is waiting for the right time to talk to Ivy about in between all her trips back and forth. The romance is incredible in this novella, and I appreciate that it can be read as a stand-alone or, for those like me, an additional fix for the new obsession that is A Lodge Affair. When The Snow Settles offers a refreshing perspective on the romance genre that I appreciate, showing conflict with healthy communication, team-work in a relationship, and unending support for both couples’ career and life choices. I’m a sucker for true love, and the ending of the novella made me cry because of the adorable show of love by Holland (which is all I’ll say as to not spoil it). Overall, I loved this novella, and thank you again to Rachel Laberge for gifting me an ARC of it!
Absolutely obsessed. I don't know what it is exactly, but everything about the Emerald Canopy Lodge is just so cozy and comforting. The perfect fall/winter, snuggle up by the fire with your favorite blanket read. This is the sweetest novella and I loved getting another little visit to the lodge and another glimpse into the ever progressing relationship of Ivy and Holland. I said this in my review of A Lodge Affair, but I am a huge Gilmore girls fan and Holland just gives me all the Luke Danes vibes. AND my girl Ivy is the best representation of someone with anxiety, (me 😅) so relatable. I loved every single second of this and I will never stop recommending A Lodge Affair.
*I received a free arc in exchange for an honest review*
I loved being back with my favorite people and back in The Emerald Canopy Lodge!!
Ivy and Holland (and Slate) are back and just as endearing as always. Ivy is struggling with the stress of work and it all comes crashing down when she gets snowed in at The Emerald Canopy Lodge.
Have no fear, Holland is here. Just as supportive and swoon worthy as he was in A Lodge Affair, he stops at nothing to give Ivy any and everything she deserves.
The ending was perfection with the cameos from Your Play to Call and her friends’ novels!
I loved being back in the world of the Emerald Canopy Lodge with Ivy, Holland, Slate, and all their friends! This novella could be read as a standalone, but I highly recommend reading A Lodge Affair first (because it’s amazing, but also because it will make this story even more meaningful).
This winter novella is the perfect mix of sweet, spicy, funny, and cozy. It’s not a high-conflict or drama story, and will give you all the good feels. I always love how the author positively represents mental health and therapy. It was great to see Bea, Stella, and Vivian back in this story too. As a fun twist at the end you may catch a glimpse of characters from LaBerge’s Your Play to Call, as well as cameos of main characters from other author’s books.
Read this if you love: ❄️ Spicy novella ❄️ Reformed grump ❄️ Winter vibes ❄️ Snowed in situation ❄️ French bulldog with main character energy ❄️ Mental health & therapy rep
Thank you to the author for providing me with a copy of this book. This review is voluntary, and all opinions expressed are my own.
When The Snow Settles is the next chapter in the lives of the cutest couple Ivy and Holland from the book A Lodge Affair. I would highly recommend reading that one first but it’s not essential but just makes more sense. I loved getting a glimpse again in the lives of Ivy and Holland and of course Bea and Slate. I adored the mentions of some familiar names from other books like Locke, Willow and Tripp! This was such an enjoyable novella and I would highly recommend it if you are after a quick easy read with a fabulous cast of characters. I received a complementary copy from the author.
Holland really is a dream guy, and sometimes ivy annoys me but she’s got a sweet soul. I was so nervous that they might actually sell the lodge. I didn’t know which direction it would go. Thankfully it went in the right one. The bug event that Holland throws feels like something right out of a hallmark movie. Absolutely adorable. And uhhh helllo was that a Travis kelce and Taylor swift inspired character?! We have a fellow swiftie! Loveeeeee

It was so nice heading back to the Emerald Canopy Lodge to check in with Holland and Ivy! I love seeing the continued growth in the characters in this novella. The cameos during the big event were a surprise that I absolutely loved! There were secrets, a snow storm, surprises, and spice all packed together in this quick read.
First off, thank you for allowing me to be an arc reader for this novella!
I ADORED this! I loved how you don’t have to read the first to understand what is happening within this book. Holland and Ivy are such an adorable couple and I enjoyed how they are millennials. I always appreciate a romance book with couples in their 30’s, makes them more relatable for me.
This novella was super cute! I had the opportunity to ARC read this book despite not reading the first book A Lodge Affair. After reading this novella I can not wait to dive into the first book and see more of the relationship between Holland and Ivy. This book was fast pace and had such lovable characters!
Thank you Rachel LaBerge for this arc read opportunity I really enjoyed this novella!
i will write a more thorough review, but all i need to say right now is THIS WAS LIKE THE MOST PERFECT EXTENDED EPILOGUE FOR A LODGE AFFAIR I NEVER KNEW I NEEDED!! i will forever love ivy & holland!! like come onnnnn
I had the pleasure of arc reading this little cutie. Such a fun novella that brings you right back into the world of A Lodge Affair. I loved revisiting Ivy and Holland and diving back into the lodge setting—honestly, I wish I could go there in real life! If you’re looking for something sweet and spicy this is it. Can’t wait for more from her!
