It's a race against the clock. I've killed....God I don't know how many people I've killed. It has to stop. They're all in my head. The voices. Well, really just his voice. I have to stop him. He's going to take control soon. I can't keep doing this. Will it ever end?
Claimed Possession by Jessica Lane is the perfect super short psychological thriller/horror story to jump start your countdown to Halloween or get you in a spooky mood any time. I personally LOVE horror; that feeling when your arms cross your body and your shoulders tense when a horror film opens; unmatched. I had a similar feeling as I read Claimed Possession. Even though it’s not horror, the twisty thriller elements kept me on the edge of my seat waiting for the next shoe to fall. The entire story took minutes to read but packed in so much vivid detail and world building. It felt like I had consumed a much larger novel because the words had a bigger impact. I could visualize so many key sections making it even more unsettling and terrifying in the intended way. Even days later I’m still finding myself thinking back to the story and turning over the details in my head. If you like psychological thrillers or want to dip your toe in the genre Claimed Possession is the perfect place to start.
Emily has three voices in her head, two are trying to help her while one is trying everything in his power to hurt everyone and everything. Will she succumb to the voices in her head, or will Emily take her control back?
If you’re looking for a quick thriller, this is the book! It was as quick easy read but kept you on your toes the whole time. The ending was really good and not how i thought it would end!
Claimed Possession is a horror/thriller short story with only 21 pages written by Jessica Lane. Talk about action-packed and fast-paced! This would be a perfect spooky season quick read.
Emily, the FMC, has multiple voices in her head. Two of them are trying to get her safe, while the other is trying to destroy everyone and everything. It’s a battle of time before he regains control. Will Emily be able to keep control and stop the madness?!
Thank you to Jessica Lane for gifting me an eARC of Claimed Possession. I am leaving this review voluntarily. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Claimed Possession is a short twenty-one page read and while I normally don't do well watching horror...reading it is an entirely different ball game!
Em was diagnosed with schizophrenia at a young age and has two voices who have been with her since, one day when she's out for lunch a new voice enters but it isn't what you think...or perhaps it is.
Though short, this book kept me on the edge of my seat, my heart was pounding and it left me hoping that there will be more eventually. I love that I could both see and hear everything that was going on in this story, too!
It was a perfect release just in time for spooky season!

For a horror/thriller I think this was perfect for spooky season!
Claimed possession was intense, dark, and riveting in ways I didn’t think a book could be. With no spice and all plot I truly enjoyed this short read. 10/10 I would read it again.
There’s a whole lot of suspense packed into a very short read with a fantastic twist that I didn’t see coming. So much potential to develop this into a longer novella but it’s a captivating read as a short story!!
I loved how she fit so many details into such a short book. I would love to know old main was to see how long this had been going on since we know when it started. Other than that, it was really good.
I want more! This is a great story that has you sitting on the edge of your seat from page one! This clever layering of tension keeps you questioning everything you know to be true, making the climax all the more exhilarating.
This is a really short but really good horror/thriller, perfect for the spooky season. There’s a lot packed in to the few pages, I just wish there was more, I would jump at the chance to read a longer novella or even full novel based on it!
This little 21 page short story is a mind fuck! Like is Ren a demon? It gave off paranormal vibes alongside representing mental health I devoured it, within 20 min. And I wish that it was longer. I really want to know of she got out. Did Ren get her to hell?
This is def a horrifying little thriller, perfect if you’re looking for a super short read during spooky season! It’s gruesome and deals with schizophrenia or possession, I’m still not entirely sure which…
Wow I literally wish it was longer 🥲. Poor Emily was going thru it. Now I need to find similar recommendations for spooky season reading. 10/10 short story!
Where do I start except for HOLY HELL THIS IS INCREDIBLE!!!!
Definitely deserving of FIVE stars.
Short story of only 21 pages. Do NOT let that deceive you. I was drawn in so fast that it was fast-paced and threw you into the deep end in the best possible way!
It was a race against time, the voices. That voice. Needs to be stopped.
Definitely something to read just in time for spooky season!
