Took me 4 months but managed to work my way through the whole book! Will be using it as a great reference and mighty go back and make some of the projects from it too!
Very helpful for people like myself starting their crochet journey. The book is full of useful tips and helpful pictures and diagrams. When used alongside a few beginner YouTube tutorials, you'll be well on your way! Highly recommend.
A great flexible crochet course at a work on your own pace approach. Start with START SIMPLE, then BUILD ON IT, and TAKE IT FURTHER. Each level has its share of cool projects. Some procedures offer different methods or alternatives. For example, there is more than one way to hold a crochet hook.
It uses the British crochet terms. To those familiar with the American crochet terms, it helps to google the British stitch terms in the book into American ones. Most of the time, it is one kind of stitch that has two different names. For example, the British double crochet is the American single crochet.
Although I looked at the pictures and turned the skimmed pages, this is a reference book which can be followed from a few consecutive pages at a time up to the end, or skip pages to go straight to the indexed page number.
Well-illustrated and beautifully photographed. I recommend to start with this book before considering to learn from a video, or a face to face tutor.
Very helpful book in establishing everything needed for crochet. Though I will say learning the magic circle in particular is best done in person with a more experienced crocheter, or by watching a tutorial. I've never seen written/photographic step by step form in any book that was easy to follow rather than just watching somebody else do it first, however that is not a weakness on the books part. It actually did quite an amazing job at teaching all the different stitches, even more complex ones. I love DK's little course series and this one has certainly been my favourite of them all
DONE! Time to move onto harder projects - Miraculous dolls, here I come!
Seriously, though - great introductory course with plenty of stitch galleries to refer back to when doing future projects. One star knocked off for some insanely bad maths in the chevron cushion pattern (thank goodness for YouTube channels or I wouldn't have worked out what to do). I also thought some of the projects were a little boring, but they exemplified the lessons and built up skill-on-skill in just the right way. Highly recommended...as long as you go on YouTube for the chevron instructions.
Okay! So I want to learn to crochet...some day. I have taught myself to knit and just finished my first big knitted throw just last year in 2020 during Covid lockdown. I have only crocheted a rag...one rag. But, I anticipate learning more in my future.
This book is loaded with step-by-step photos that appear to be super easy to follow. There are quite a few simple projects to try out in the book. I am looking forward to learning to crochet one day. Hey...I'm already collecting the yarn...lol
Super super handy book. Learning from this book has made learning so much easier for me (supplemented with YouTube and website tutorials) and I continually go back to it to touch up on stitches and and tricks. I only wish it had a little more interesting patterns to try, otherwise it is a staple in my crochet hobby.
Excellent guide, I honestly thought I would have to implement it with video tutorials on YouTube but this book single handedly taught me how to crochet and a couple other base skills. I have tried several other books and this one was the best so far in explaining clearly all the steps as well as guiding me through a couple cute projects with simple and clear pattern instructions.
This book is brilliant. It has simple yet challenging designs and it teaches you rather than patronises. I learnt a lot reading and following this book, and I highly recommend it for crochet lovers.
