After six tours in the Army special forces, David Wolf is finally back home in Rocky Points, Colorado, where he's in his third week of training for the Rocky Points PD.
His survival instincts and fresh memories of military action are wreaking havoc on his chances of making a good impression, and when he screws up during his first week on patrol, everyone has written him off as hopeless--a dangerous kid without any self control.
So when he thinks he sees trouble happening during a routine call, probie-Officer Wolf must decide if he can defy orders and trust the instincts that got him through six tours of death-defying military action, or if he's just seeing things again.
This action packed short story will have your page-turn button smoking.
Jeff Carson is from the Front Range of Colorado where he lives with his wife and two sons. His David Wolf series of books takes place in the fictional ski town of Rocky Points, Colorado.
Very Good! I started reading Jeff Carson with his first in the David Wolf series, Foreign Deceit. I loved it. I have started his second book now and went back and got his free short story by signing up on his website.
Was I ever surprised? It was a great story. It is a prequel to the series and covers Deputy Wolf joining the Sheriff’s Dept. in a small county in the Colorado ski area. After getting out of the military. In only 8,000-10,000 words, the author is able to pull you into an action adventure story that tells you about the hero. You will like this story. Even has a twist.
Whoa, this novel was both scary and thrilling. Scary that stuff like this happens, and thrilling from the pace and development of this plot. Seriously, I couldn't put this book down, and while I'm so glad I didn't, I have no idea why this sort of troubled cop turned hero trope isn't bigger in movie adaptations of other books like this. Who's with me here? Give author Jeff Carson a movie adaptation of this novel! I loved it!
This is a good little short story. I was hopeful it would have more time to give more insight into the characters. But it's just too short. if you want more of Wolf read his other novels. They are worth the read.
I don’t usually write reviews, but after reading the 4 volume set, I went back to get the free first book after signing up for the David Wolf newsletter. I have definitely become entranced with this series. It is intelligent, fast moving, and now Jeff Carson is one of my favorite authors! [How long with Grisham, Patterson, Preston/child, Lillian Jackson Braun, Julia Buckley, Nevada Barr, and several others.] it always takes me a while to try a new author, so I am remarkably pleased when I find one who writes with a comparable level of intrigue, suspense and interest.
Gut Decision is a short, quick story that focuses on a harrowing case that Wolf solved during his first days as a Sluice County Deputy. David Wolf trusts his instincts, even though it appears the whole department doubts him. He pushes forward, uncovering a sinister crime. Even though this is a short read, it is a nail biter.
This would be a wonderful format to learn more of Wolf's early years. I would definitely buy and read every story!
Short as expected. I was expecting a little more to why David Wolf is wired the way he is, but nothing really. It did leave me wishing I could remember the story with his wife Sarah it’s been awhile since I read it. If I knew what book it was in I’d probably try to refresh the brain cells, but not in a research mood. I do continue to enjoy the David Wolf series. One of the better series I’ve been reading.
This is just the beginning of the tales of David Wolf. If you like silent, handsome, and rugged men that wear a badge and gun, then you will like this Jeff Carson's series. It takes place in the Colorado mountains and David has to struggle through all kinds of weather to find his man. It's a thriller from the first chapter until the end.I would recommend this series to anyone that likes fast paced action!
This was great background information on Wolf. It helps with the history between Wolf and Connor. You get to understand a little of how he stands for his actions. Not quit as good or as well developed as the other books in the Wolf series, still worth reading after you've read some of the others.
An excellent read for a short story. Great pace, good dialogue, with an interesting ending. I really enjoy how the author has fleshed out the character of David Wolf. This is genre focused, the main character is a returning vet becoming a police officer with much baggage. An interesting short story into a series worth reading.
Excellent intro to the David Wolf mystery series. It is early in Wolf's career in the Rocky Points Sherrif's Office and has the subject of much hassle from coworkers especially Connell who has an antipathy toward Wolf dating back to their childhood. Wolf solves a mystery that no one else even suspects.
I've read all the Jeff Carson DAVID WOLF books and have found them difficult to put down. If you like action thrillers, you've come to the right place!
I love these David Wolf books. This is only the beginning and as Wolf develops into an incredible lawman, you, the reader, are taken on a journey. Love his instincts and his ability to solve the crimes. Great start and a quick read.
great short David Wolf story. This is where you should begin the series. I am on book 4 and loving every minute. Great characters, great storylines, and great writing! Jeff Carson, keep them coming!!
What a great short story even if I had finished all the others first! A great series and wish it was Nov when the next book gets here! Not sure what I will read next, might be a big let down after reading these books!
Situational awareness has become more and more important in today's world. Paying attention to detail is very important. Short story with excellent drama. Will be a great series. Looking forward to next read.
Great introduction to the David Wolf series. I was hooked on the character and also Jeff Carson‘s style of writing from the start. Ordered Book 1 soon after and loved it. Great characters and good mystery. Looking forward to continuing with the series!
Another David Woolf story but too short. Wanted to read more of David's detective work. Reading his next one. Enjoy if you want a taster of this fine author
