Raven and Tanis are trying very hard to merge their vastly different lifestyles, but Tanis’s issues with his own past could prove to be more than their fragile relationship can handle. Is their love for each other strong enough to weather the oncoming storm?
Aiya and Sawyer have fought hard to be together in a world where Opposite relationships are generally forbidden. Yet, they are still forced to keep their relationship a secret while visiting House Orion.
Everyone assumes that the only threat lies outside their walls, the group of rebels led by Cillian. But something is happening within House Gaeland, something that hasn’t happened since GWI, and with all the attention focused on that, their guard is down. An evil that was under their nose all along strikes and someone will make the ultimate sacrifice to save another.
Appearances is the second book in the Opposites series, the series must be read in order. It is an adult, dystopian majorly M/M series that encompasses all manners of relationships (including M/F and F/F). In this world logic is irrelevant, love is key, and things get broken—just ask Aiyan and Kaden.
Other books in the series and reading order... Opposites - book 1 The Library - book 1.5 Appearances - book 2 The Cellar - book 2.5 Snapped - book 3 coming January 2017
A military brat born and raised at Ft. Benning Georgia; Smith is an avid reader that just happens to write sweet & sexy gay romance. A Texas transplant, she now calls DFW her home. Most days she can be found curled up with a good book, or ticking away on her next novel.
Smith is a single mom of three disturbingly outspoken and decidedly different kids, one of which is Autistic. Besides her writing, she is passionate about Autism advocacy and LGBT rights. Because, seriously people, Love is Love!
5 STARS This series is blowing my mind, yes it’s dystopian in nature, but has also blamed Global Warming and the collapse of the world on straight people and the few thousand that made it decided to genetically alter everyone to be born gay or lesbian. If they came from one of the ruling families as the straight gene has begun to creep back into the world they were outcast! It’s so much more complicated than that. I’ll admit it’s not the writing style I like about these books but the concept. I’ve never read the few other books I’ve seen where people have used this “everyone is gay concept” but this is really freaky and looks like paranormal abilities have also been spliced into DNA too. I’m still not sure just how far that will go, so I’m going straight onto books #2.5 & #3 immediately.
This sequel to OPPOSITES is another interesting read in the dystopian-future M/M romance genre.
This story centers almost exclusively on the M/M relationships developed in Opposites. Namely: Aiyan + Kaden and Raven + Tanis. Newly-married Aiyan and Aiya travel to their spouses homelands to pay respects and be received.
Tanis, Raven and Sawyer accompany Aiya and Maeve to Greece. Along the way Aiya develops a potentially dangerous health condition, and it's up to Maeve and Sawyer to keep her safe. Meanwhile, Tanis ruthlessly woos his betrothed, Raven. Well, until things get complicated.
Aiyan and Kaden continue to indulge in furniture-destroying sex at every opportunity. I swear, they need to invest in a rubber-paneled room!
And, of course, the plotting continues, not only with Outkast Cillian, but also with True Believer Marcus. It seems Marcus has been playing God a bit too fast and loose and his chickens have come home to roost...in his brain. Yup. Cray-cray-town for that dude.
I still had some issues with POV that were frustrating, but I really enjoyed these characters and the story is definitely coming together better for me now. It ends on a cliffhanger.
Again, I read an ARC, so my hope is that the typos I saw were eradicated in the final product. I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
I would just love to jump into this with all the juicy tidbits that come with beginning a new book with a series but I cannot spoil you all too much, can I? Aiya, Sawyer and Maeve have settled into a relationship that is working out for them even though it is still not accepted readily by everyone else. Aiyan and Kaiden are still going passionately strong and Raven and Tanis are still breaking everything around them in their own passionate endeavors. Now we get another set of problems. Kaden is kidnapped and almost killed, Aiya’s life is also threatened by someone she describes as a man dressed in a gorilla like fashion. Who is the very angry Gorilla Man that is so determined to end their happiness?
Oh my goodness, this is where it gets dicey and some confessions have to come forth regarding the who what and when of how he came to be and why he is so angry and determined to do as much damage as he can to bring down the society that cast him out so wrongly as a baby. He has a really good reason to be angry but don’t expect a happy ending where he flips from evil to good and they play happy families. What was done to him he feels is just unforgivable and he is determined to bring to its knees a society he feels is based on the lunacy of a scientist. A scientist who may not have been totally sane, as is the social structure that resulted from that scientist’s actions. Poor Maeve, who has entered into a relationship of her own, is also a target of revenge when she doesn’t do what her lover, Autumn, wants her to. The repercussions are felt throughout the castle as all is revealed there as well. I feel for poor Maeve, married yet not, in love but not enough, and worse yet, blind to the wants and needs of the woman she embraces until it is too late and major damage has been done.
There are a lot of storylines going on here and I don’t want to reveal them and spoil the story for you, but I will tell you this, one of the dads goes insane upon learning that Aiya is expecting a baby and he does something so rash and unforgiveable that it rips the family apart at the seams and leaves a lot of healing to recover from it.
Looking back at what all happened, it seems all of the bad things aren’t from the outside. It is all from within the families and societal structures they had to follow without hesitation.
I was shocked and surprised, as I am sure you will be, at how this ends and I am looking forward to the next installation of the series.
This is a well written book and is a perfect follow up to book one, Opposites. You will not be disappointed in purchasing this novel.

Appearances (Opposites Series) by T.M. Smith! This series is best to be read in order to fully comprehend the characters, genre and the amazing stories!
Tanis is trying to deal with his own past issues but it could be more than Raven and Tanis's relationship can handle. They are very much trying to bring their completely different lifestyles together but not as simple as they believed it to be. Aiya and Sawyer are in a world were being opposites is completely forbidden and very much frowned upon but they are trying very hard to make it work with the world against them. In the house of Gaeland something is brewing and about to go wild. Everyone is more concerned with the threat outside of the house and not realizing what is about to happen inside. There is an evil lurking inside and when it strikes, sadly someone will pay the ultimate price.
OMG OMG Kaden and Aiyan, those scenes almost finished me off, amazingly hot! TM Smith can really write some major hot gay scenes where I question, is she really a gay man...LOL They are getting ready to go home to celebrate pairings and weddings and those are some fun scenes. In my past reviews I have gone on about this genre that the author so brilliantly writes about. In this Dystopian era, it's illegal for opposite sex (M/F) to be together and as a gay man...I love it!!! For one it's about time someone had the sense to write a story like this one and two, it gives it to the straight community.....one for the gay community! So basically same sex couples/pairings is the norm in this fantastic world and the opposites have to hide their sexuality!
TM Smith delivered a beautiful book-two where she writes the story of Tanis and Raven and one of my favourite pairings. Their story will keep you riveted page after page and your heart pounding for more, you won't be able to put the book down for a second. What I loved about these guys is that there is an amazing connection from the very start and no denying their passion, desire and love for each other. It takes them awhile to finally get totally immersed into their relationship as they had to work a lot of things out and their story is so hot, you won't believe it. This book Appearances-Book 2 in the Opposite Series is filled with action, drama, love, intrigue, suspense, hot sex, beautiful love and brilliant amazing writing! I highly and I so mean highly recommend this novel to everyone so please do yourself a favor and read this book and the series, you won't be disappointed for a moment!!!

** Warning from the Author: Opposites is an Adult Dystopian majorly M/M series that contains explicit sexual content and relationships between gay, straight and lesbian couples. **
Appearances is book two of the Opposites Series and should be read in order. One thing I truly loved about this book was the dictionary in the front with the explanations of the houses, some of the words and in the back there are more explanations. It made the reading so much easier to follow knowing exactly where things were taking place. The story starts out with some really hot sex between Kaden and Aiyan. These two men can really set a page on fire. They are preparing to go to each other’s spouses’ homeland to celebrate the pairings and weddings. Aiya, Maive, Sawyer, along with some of the parents, and Raven and Tanis will go to Greece. Aiya finds out she is pregnant and this will cause her secret to come out. In Greece, Raven finds out that the rumors about Tanis’ playboy past is true and he feels he isn’t good enough for Tanis. Aiyan and Kaden will go to Kaden’s home. Here we get some smoking hot sex! As you can see there is a lot going on in this book. As well as all this, Cillian is still out to get his revenge. There is major hot sex with some of the dads. There are lots of action, suspense as well as all the hot man-sex. I love Tanis and Raven. There is some sex with these guys that you need a fire hydrant to put out the flames. I thought the makeup sex was the best ever. Whew! I needed to turn on the fan among other things *blushes* T.M can really do the hot man-sex! The only problem I had with the book is there is a little too much going on and it got overwhelming at times. Still it is a very good read if you like dystopian settings, lots of drama and suspense and some smoking man-sex with one heck of a surprise ending this is for you!
I loved this book and it seems like I've been waiting forever for it to be released and I wasn't disappointed. Before reading this book I highly recommend and suggest that you read Opposites the first book in the series as it gives you a better look into the characters and what's going on.
This book has it all. Lots of romance with hot steamy sex scenes, action, mystery, and tears. Aiyan and Kaden are going strong while still dealing with the after effects of what happened when Kaden was taken captive. They even manage to break some more furniture. These two have some of the steamiest sex scenes I've read between two men and I LOVE them.
Raven and Tanis are great together. They have their issues to deal with but their love for one another is strong. Raven has some interesting "dreams" in the book that seem to be more like visions and I'm anxious and worried to see what exactly they will mean for our characters.
Aiya and Sawyer's love for one another in a world where opposite relationships are forbidden is still going strong. They have something to be thankful and happy about but their news isn't met with happiness by everyone. The fallout from their news will result in the loss of someone close to them.
From the minute I picked this book up I couldn't put it down. I found myself wondering what Raven's dreams meant. I was and still am scared for one of my favorite characters and can't help but wonder what's gonna happen to them next. I cried ugly fat tears at a beautiful wedding and was left wondering what's gonna happen now that all these secrets are being found out now.
T.M. Smith congrats on another amazeball book. I honestly can't wait for the next one to come out. I promise to wait as patiently as I can for the next book...is it done yet? If you dystopian reads with M/F M/M F/F scenes then I highly recommend this series.
Just as hot and heavy as book 1, Appearances follows the story of the couples and extended families now all twined together in House Devi, House Orion, and House Gaeland. As the young heirs and their parents get to know each other better and fall deeper in love, the conflicts generated by their realities, past and present, fester till they reach the point of no return and explosions happen.
Aiyan and Kaden have to deal with what has happened to them and the aftermath, Aiyan’s bottled up feelings and his husband’s nightmares. Sawyer and Aiya have to figure out their Opposites relationship and prepare for a new baby, while still figuring out the way Aiya’s marriage and deep friendship with Maeve works into the relationship. Tanis and Raven have to fight their own demons as Tanis’ less than pristine pasts is thrown at his fiance.
The journeys the characters take will open up new worlds. The homes of House Devi and House Orion in India and Greece are the new settings for the complicated plot where the obvious threat is not always the biggest, hate and bitterness can hurt deeply, but so can weapons, and the future looks more uncertain as ever as all threads unravel and are wound up together again in a complicated knot.
Peppered with a few erotic scenes in every chapter, Appearances explores all manners of love and conflict in a dystopian future where the human race does not seem to have learned all that much from its past transgressions, yet they are stumbling on their way to evolving and accepting nature as it is. Definitely an interesting read for all those who like science fiction, adventure, and highly erotic scenarios.
It felt like I waited forever for this story to finally be published! I am fully in love with all the characters in the Opposites series. I especially enjoy the diverse dynamics within the family, and how even when they struggle to accept each other at times, but the love is still there. While their society is far different from our own in many ways, the relationships between the gay, straight and lesbian couples could easily mirror our own, and that makes it very true-to-life for me.
T.M. Smith delivers above and beyond with Tanis and Raven's story. The Priest and the Warrior have many challenges to face, not the least of which is their own expectations. They are so in love, almost from the very beginning, but it takes them this long to finally get into the groove of their relationship, and it takes them on quite the wild ride, let me tell you!
Aiya and Sawyer throw us a curve-ball at the very beginning, Aiyan and Kaden are as sexy as ever while they work through the repercussions of the happenings in book one, and the mystery of Cillian deepens. In the world of Opposites, well... let me just say that nothing is as it appears!
With action, adventure, and romance, this is a well developed story-line that starts out slow and crashes through boundaries as it picks up speed on it's way to an ending that stole both my breath and my heart. Appearances was well worth the wait!
I was a fan of The first Opposites book and The Library, so I had to get Appearances! The story and character building done by T.M. Smith are fantastic. While the cast is large, I was able to keep the couples and parents separate. I also like that there are intros in the beginning of the book to explain about the world these people live in, that is very helpful if you should get mixed up on things. I liked Raven and Tanis from the first book, and seeing that this book has more of them was good for me. Not to say that the list of favorites from book one aren't here, they are. Aiyan and Kaden(oh these two are great), Aiya, Sawyer, And Mauve. And I have such a love for Rian and Cirian as a couple. The whole book kept me on my toes trying to see what the ending would be, I was WRONG! Not too sad about that really, I love when an author can make me think the story is going one way then I get goobsmacked with what really happens. There are beautiful moments, hysterical moments and utterly heartbreaking moments. And the scorch factor is off the charts with Tanis and Raven! Never one to give spoilers, so you will have to read about the people that I and others have come to love. I will be so happy to continue reading in the series for as long as T.M. Smith feels like writing for them.
The twins have found their other halfs and now it's time to go into the world and meet their people. For Kayden and Aiyan everything is great those two were a match made in heaven, everyone accepts tham and they are perfect for each other.
For Aiya and Sawyer everything is so much harder. Being opposites means not being accepts by the masses and since Aiya is supposed to be happily maried to her wife it makes things more than a little intense at times, expically when something unexpected happens.
Raven and Tanis are as different as they come, but together they found love, but going to Tanis' home makes things akward for the couple at times. Tanis is finding that his past is now coming back to haunt him and he doesn't know what to do to make sure he keeps his fiance.
The story expands from book and and we see more of this world and the troubles that are being caused in it. I loved seeing more of the characters and more of how they deal with their prospective problems and come together to be there for each other.
This is the second book in T.M. Smith’s Opposites series. Okay I love this series and all of the characters involved. In this book I really like how we were able to see how deep the bond between Cirian and Rian is. I think it really helps the reader understand how Aiyan and Aiya are able to form such strong relationships so quickly with their respective partners. One of the elements that makes this series so unique and amazing is how we get to watch so many couples develop during the same book. I love the point of view changes and how Raven and Tanis take more of center stage during this book.
The first book in this series ended with a huge revelation that surprised me but this book takes the cake. I was not expecting the curve ball the author throws at the end. All I can say is I am desperate for the next book in this series. A great continuation to a truly unique series and please write the next one soon!
Author T.M. Smith has clearly grown as a writer since the first book in the series. I was concerned that I would need to take the time to read Opposites before reading Appearances, yet upon previewing Appearances out of curiosity, I was sucked into the story immediately. I was able to both follow and enjoy Appearances on its own. Rian and Cirian were hands down my favorite couple, although the other couples were great! Tanis and Raven I held out hope for and I was glad I wasn't disappointed. Wow! There are some scenes in this book that were quite arousing. Smith knows how to write some wicked sex scenes! This is T.M. Smith's best work yet!
If you love dystopian settings, lots of drama and suspense and some Wicked HOT Sex and with one heck of a surprise ending this is for you!
Appearances is book two of the Opposites Series and to be honest it needs to be read in order.
All the Characters fromt he first book are back, its great to see where they are now. They are preparing to go each others partners homeland to celebrate the weddings.
Aiya Finds out she is pregnat with Sawyer. This will let the secret out about the two of them.
Raven and Tanis, Are beautiful and i enjoyed there story as well.
As with the original book, this book starts off kind of slow. Some might put it down and then start a new one. Don't. By the end of this book, I was crying. There is action, suspense, and a wedding.
Raven is by far, my favorite character of the series. His spirit is so pure. He shows such courage, faith, and love, I hold him close to my heart. He is a true hero. I cannot wait to see what he "sees" in future books.
The second book in the Opposites series moves swiftly on from where book one left us.
This book has the same high number of characters as the first but I found it much easier to follow now that I am becoming accustomed to who belongs where. The first half of the book moves along slowly and dare I say is slightly heavy on the sex – not something I complain about too often! It’s a catch up of sorts with each couple and is full of passion and orgasms. The second part of the book moves much faster in pace and when I got to 80% I was dreading it finishing.
This is Tanis and Raven’s story, the Soldier and the Priest, and whilst we saw them fall in love in the first book not everything is plain sailing. Tanis has ghosts from the past and they seem to appear around every corner but only when they stop communicating does this become a problem.
Aiya and Sawyer’s news causes first shock then violence at House Gaeland and Raven once again has to live with the consequences. Aiyan and Kaden are still breaking furniture everywhere they go and learning to live with what happened in book one but out of all the couples they seem to be the most settled.
The world building was once again superb, we got to visit more of the houses in Appearances and learn more about the people and customs. I was surprised Cillian didn’t cause more trouble in this book – he definitely has plans to bring down the families and with what was discovered towards the end by Raven this series looks set to become very interesting and I hope the author has plans for more books soon.
“Everything, always together.” Having immersed myself in this dystopian society in Opposites and gotten completely hooked on its cast of characters, I loved the journey TM Smith brought them on in this installment. The bond between Aiyan and Kaden is so breathtakingly beautiful and intensely charged, plus I was also more than a little entertained to see that their trend of breaking the furniture hasn’t settled at all. The comic relief provided by them was much appreciated as remaining characters paid the price for not strictly conforming to societal expectations of what constitutes an appropriate match, and I found myself afraid for Aiya as the consequences of her choices begin to surface. My heartstrings were irrevocably snagged up in Raven once again, who, despite the sheer magnitude of his heart, seemed to underestimate his own strength and capacity for love as he faced his most overwhelming personal crisis to date. I’m going to take a slightly unpopular stance and just put it out there that I feel for Cillian. He got a raw deal at birth, and while it may have twisted him up into the despicable character we’ve seen so far, I can’t help but hope that he can be redeemed as the series progresses. My stomach may have churned in the final scene with him, but my jaw literally dropped with Raven’s last sentence, and I am anxiously waiting for the next installment as the threat gets even closer to home. Please note that I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
Wow I am so glad I didn't have to wait for this book after reading the first. You definitely have to read them in order. Otherwise you will get confused. This is more about the romance than the mystery. Apart from at the end. This is a sweet read with lots of heart stopping, furniture breaking hot sex. The last part of the book is where things start to get fun again. This ends on a cliffhanger I just hope I haven't too long to wait.
