What if your dreams weren’t just dreams… but warnings?

That’s the haunting question at the core of Hunt for the Mysterious Eye, an action-packed thriller that pulls you into a world where mythology, danger, and psychological suspense collide. Harshvardhan Rao’s debut novel reads like a cinematic experience, perfect for fans of Dan Brown-style mysteries fused with Indian mythology and a modern-day race against time.

For a first-time author, Rao shows remarkable control over the narrative. A graphic designer by profession, his sense of visual storytelling is evident not just in the eye-catching cover art (which, honestly, made me pause and click) but in how vividly he paints each scene. It's clear he’s done his research—whether on mythology, neurological conditions, or history—and that care shows in the richness of the details.

The story centers around Alisha, a young woman grappling with terrifying dreams that seem to foretell gruesome deaths and a strange, blood-stained box hidden deep within a temple. Her life is already complicated by prosopagnosia (face blindness), but when the dreams start to connect to real-world events, she embarks on a dangerous journey with her friend Rajat. Their quest? To uncover the Agha Netra before a ruthless Chinese Triad gets to it first. With ancient secrets, coded clues, betrayals, and high-stakes adventure, the story never lets up.

What makes this more than just another treasure hunt is its ability to blend myth and mystery without feeling heavy-handed. It’s got just the right amount of intrigue to keep your brain ticking, without losing the thrill of the chase.

Rao’s writing is fast, fluid, and cinematic. He knows when to cut the fat—no unnecessary detours, just straight to the action. His language is accessible, which makes the book perfect for a wide range of readers. There are some beautiful lines scattered throughout, like seeds of poetry in a bed of chaos. You’ll find yourself pausing once in a while just to reread a sentence. That said, the prose is never indulgent—it serves the story.

Alisha is a layered character—vulnerable yet fierce. Her medical condition adds depth to her decisions, making her internal struggle as intense as the external one. Rajat is a solid anchor, not just a sidekick but someone with his own stakes. Their chemistry is nuanced, never overshadowing the plot. The idea of a powerful object like the Agha Netra being sought after by global forces adds a political edge that elevates the premise beyond a typical mythological adventure.

The pacing is spot-on. Each chapter ends with a little hook, urging you to keep flipping pages. The flashbacks, the clues in dreams, the confrontations with the Triad—all build up to a gripping climax. However, the ending felt slightly rushed. I wanted a bit more breathing room before the final reveal. Still, it’s forgivable, especially if there’s a sequel coming (and all signs point to that!).

At its heart, this book is about trust—who you believe in, and what happens when even your closest allies start planting doubts. It also touches upon memory, identity, and the cost of knowledge. Rao subtly explores how the past echoes into the present, and how history is often buried beneath layers of secrecy.

There were moments I found myself genuinely anxious—especially during dream sequences and close encounters with the Triad. But there are also emotional beats that catch you off guard. Betrayal stings, friendships evolve, and the personal stakes keep climbing.

With a fast-paced and engaging narrative, the story masterfully weaves well-developed characters with compelling emotional arcs into a seamless blend of myth and modernity. What truly sets it apart is the unique and thoughtful use of prosopagnosia as a plot device, adding depth and intrigue while enhancing the psychological tension throughout.

The ending felt a bit too quick, leaving me wishing for more closure, and a few transitions between past and present could’ve been smoother—but these are minor nitpicks in an otherwise solid and captivating read.

As someone who loves mythology-based thrillers with strong female leads, Hunt for the Mysterious Eye hit all the right notes. I admired the balance between emotional depth and high-stakes drama. It reminded me why I love stories that blur the line between dream and reality.

Hunt for the Mysterious Eye is an entertaining, suspenseful, and smartly written debut that delivers both thrills and heart. If you enjoy fast-paced adventure with a dose of mystery and meaningful character journeys, this one’s definitely worth your time.

Here’s hoping book two isn’t far away!

📖 Book Review 📖

Hunt for the Mysterious Eye is a gripping action-adventure novel that blends mystery, suspense, and a touch of the supernatural. The story follows Alisha, a young woman haunted by vivid, terrifying dreams that lead her on a perilous quest to stop a wave of deaths she sees unfolding. Alongside her friend Rajat, she embarks on a dangerous journey to find a mysterious box believed to possess immense power.

The plot thickens with the introduction of a powerful Chinese Triad, also after the box for their own sinister purposes. The race against time and evil forces keeps the reader engaged from the very beginning. Interwoven with Alisha’s story is the subplot of Kevin, whose past debts and mysterious encounters in Kolkata draw him into the same hunt. His interactions at the Sarbamangala Temple and the haunting deal he makes add depth and intrigue to the narrative.

The writing is vivid and fast-paced, making it easy to visualize the unfolding drama. What sets the book apart is its ability to maintain suspense while gradually revealing connections between seemingly unrelated characters.

The last two chapters are the true highlight of the novel. As Alisha and Rajat stumble upon a strange plateau and witness a surreal half-monkey, half-human figure lit by flashing beams inside a cave, the tension reaches its peak. Their indecision about entering the mysterious hole and the eerie, dream-like atmosphere are both captivating and chilling. These final scenes deliver a strong visual and emotional punch, making them the most memorable part of the book.

For fans of thrillers with a touch of mythology and psychological mystery, this novel is a solid pick.

It’s a mysterious box which binds the whole story till the end. The main protagonist is Alisha, a girl who struggles to remember the faces of people. There’s a dream which haunts her all the time where she sees someone giving a box with blood-soaked hands. “Aghanetra” means evil eye, which tends to protect something. Agha Netra was in Xiamen, and Chinese people were chasing it. The other characters like-Kevin, Sana and Rajat, all of them breaks trust of each other due to this mystery. Arinjay one the characters which played very well and betrayed the nine unknowns who was after Agha Netra. The number “24” is very significant in human form and so is the 24 chapters in the book, thus it’s all relatable. And the most enjoyable and thrilling part is- what will you do if you see your dreams which are actually nightmares is all being real. A box with mysterious eyes is not just a simple box, the characters are betraying, poisoning just for this piece but what’s next who discovers it first and what happens next that is something very intriguing. The author depicted the places, relatable stories of Ramayana, Shiva and Kali very well. It’s written in a very simple language and with ease that it doesn’t makes you feel bored at all. If you love reading mysteries then it’s a very good pick.

From the Frist chapter, Harshvardhan Rao's Hunt for the Mysterious Eye captivates you with its captivating fusion of myth, mystery, and psychological suspense. The plot centers on Alisha, a young woman who has unsettling nightmares about brutal murders and a bloody box concealed in a temple. What starts off as horrifying nightmares quickly transforms into a mission that changes people's lives. Without realizing that a formidable Chinese Triad is also after the enigmatic artifact, Alisha embarks on her quest to locate it with the help of her devoted companion Rajat.

Rao skillfully blends historical and mythical nuance with fast-paced tension. The tale is interesting, the narration is quick, and the spooky atmosphere maintains the suspense. The mystery that is developing is further complicated by his deft utilization of old stories and a clandestine past. My favorite character is Alisha since she is so interesting and realistic due to her strength and tenacity. Rajat enhances her adventure effectively, raising the emotional stakes in their exciting chase.

The book's examination of memory, identity, and fate—particularly through the legendary Agha Netra—is among its most enduring features. For those who appreciate mystery thrillers with a mythological bent, I heartily suggest this book. I'm excitedly awaiting the sequel because it was a page-turner from beginning to end!

Harshvardhan Rao’s Hunt for the Mysterious Eye is an ambitious and thought-provoking thriller that fuses psychological suspense with layers of mythology and historical intrigue. From the very first chapter, the book grips you with its eerie atmosphere and a protagonist plagued by unsettling visions that blur the line between reality and nightmare. This is a thrilling debut that blends mythology, memory, and mind games into a fast-paced narrative.
The story revolves around Alisha, a young woman wrestling with a rare neurological condition that causes her to forget faces—a challenge that becomes all the more intense when her dreams start revealing cryptic clues tied to a mythical object known as the Agha Netra. Alisha is a well-crafted protagonist—flawed, human, and resourceful. Having been occupied on work front for the past month and experiencing one of the worst reading slumps , I couldn't muster the courage to pick book of any genre. Finally after returning home I decided to resume my reading habit and I knew in times like these only a thriller can help me to return to the old ways.

"Hunt for the mysterious eyes" has a very fascinating prose. It looks like a scintillating read from the outset with elements of mystery introduced since the beginning itself . Alisha was living a normal life like any other individual before she starts seeing terrifying visuals in her dreams of people being killed and a box with bloodied hands . All hell break loose when it becomes a recurrent happening and she knows that she had to get rid of this issue before it brings her own life in jeopardy.

The story has all the elements that will keep you on the edge of your seats . It moves quickly with the side characters playing their role to perfection as well. Though the last 30-40 odd pages I felt were a bit rushed and the book finished on a cliffhanger keeping the possibility of a probable sequel open but the plot and historical attachment to the events were a treat to experience.

All in all a good one time read to bring you out from your slump.

"Hunt for the Mysterious Eye" by Harshvardhan Rao is an enthralling tale that seamlessly blends history, mythology, and modern suspense. The story revolves around the Agha Netra, a mysterious and cursed box created during the Mauryan era, which holds a dangerous secret capable of altering destinies. Spanning centuries, the narrative follows a group called the "Unknowns," sworn to protect the box, and how their mission intertwines with characters in 2022. ⠀

The author’s intricate storytelling is divided into 24 chapters, each building upon the last. This also reflects the symbolic importance of the number 24, tied to our culture and history. The novel also highlights face-blindness through Alisha, a key character, sensitively portraying the challenges and societal isolation faced by those with this condition. ⠀

The characters’ journeys are packed with suspense, betrayal, and redemption, as they confront ancient curses, familial conflicts, and modern threats. The use of historical references, including elements from the Ramayana, adds depth to the narrative. ⠀

Overall, with its captivating plot, strong characters, and seamless blend of past and present, "Hunt for the Mysterious Eye" is a gripping read that keeps us engaged until the very last page of the book.

*The Hunt for the Mysterious Eye* left me breathless. It’s not just a story—it’s an experience. From the moment Alisha starts having those horrifyingly vivid dreams, I was pulled into a world that felt both mystical and terrifyingly real. The imagery is haunting: a box clutched in bloodied hands, hidden in the shadows of a temple, and a creeping sense that time is running out. The tension builds with every page, and you can feel the weight of what’s at stake.

What I loved most was the emotional backbone of the story. Alisha isn’t some chosen one with all the answers. She’s someone who’s scared, confused, but still determined to do what’s right. That made her journey powerful. Rajat is a grounding force—his calm presence, quiet strength, and unwavering support make their bond deeply moving. You root for them not just because of the danger they’re facing, but because you care about them.

The Triad brought a real sense of fear. Their obsession with the box and their willingness to do anything to get it gave the story high stakes and constant tension. This is more than just a supernatural thriller—it’s about destiny, trust, and the dangerous cost of unchecked power. Simply unforgettable.

*The Hunt for the Mysterious Eye* isn’t just a thriller—it’s an emotional rollercoaster packed with suspense, mythology, and heart. The story begins with Alisha’s vivid and terrifying dreams, and from that moment, I was completely hooked. The dreams don’t feel like filler—they’re central to the plot, rich with meaning, and give the whole book an underlying urgency that doesn’t let up.

What really stayed with me was Alisha’s emotional transformation. She starts out confused and afraid, unsure of what the dreams mean or what to do about them. But with each clue she uncovers, each danger she faces, her strength grows. Her fear never fully disappears, and that’s what makes her so relatable. She keeps going, even when everything around her is falling apart.

Rajat adds another layer of depth. Their bond isn’t romanticized or exaggerated—it’s built on loyalty, trust, and shared fear. The way they rely on each other made me feel emotionally connected to both of them.

The Triad is a constant threat, and their desperation to find the box adds a sharp edge to the story. The pacing is relentless—in the best way. Every chapter adds to the tension and reveals another piece of the mystery.

This book is haunting, heartfelt, and thrilling all at once.

*The Hunt for the Mysterious Eye* is a fast-paced, high-stakes thriller that doesn’t just entertain—it makes you feel. What drew me in immediately was the eerie mystery of Alisha’s visions. The dreams weren’t just plot devices; they were powerful, almost poetic, and filled with symbolism. Seeing people die in your dreams and feeling helpless is a terrifying concept, and the way the author brings it to life made my heart race.

Alisha isn’t a typical heroine. She’s vulnerable, but determined. Watching her transform from a confused girl into someone who dares to stand up against unimaginable danger was truly inspiring. Rajat, her constant companion, brings both balance and quiet strength to the story. Their friendship is portrayed with sincerity and warmth—it’s not romanticized or exaggerated, and that made it even more believable.

The chase for the mysterious box keeps the tension high, especially with the ruthless Triad closing in. The global angle added urgency, but the emotional stakes made it personal. The descriptions of the temple and the box were atmospheric and chilling. Every twist added depth rather than confusion.

This book is more than just action. It’s about the strength of human connection, the burden of knowing too much, and the courage to act anyway.

After reading 'The Girl In The House' by the same author, picking this one was not a difficult decision. I knew I will definitely love the book. The book cover and the premise both were pretty good and within no time I was in for the hunt of a lifetime.

When we dive into the fantasy world the first thing that comes to the readers mind is always the world around the story and here, it was quite relatable and nothing was over the top. The story had thrill elements and the suspense was quite engaging. The dream elements associated with Alisha felt real and her character has a good learning arc which adds to the depth in the story. Her friendship, the betrayal, the future and the good and the evil story keeps you on the edge of the seat.

But one place where the book could have exceled was the part where the climax begins. I felt it was rushed. I felt that the author could have given more thoughts on the last few pages and could have delivered the end of the book in a much better way. Other than that, it was a very good read.

"Hunt for the Mysterious Eye" pulls you right into a thrilling race between good and evil. Alisha’s nightmares feel so real — and when she realizes they might actually be warnings, the adventure truly begins.

Teaming up with her friend Rajat, Alisha sets off on a dangerous mission to find a mysterious box that could change the future. But they’re not alone — a deadly group called the Triad is chasing after it too. Every chapter is packed with action, close calls, and big surprises.

On hearing Anityo’s story, Alisha curiously asked how can they reach out to the secret society. To which Anityo replied via the mysterious object that they worship and will be up for display soon for all the society members at a secret festival. However, they can’t simply go to the festival as they are not a part of it.

The best part is how relatable Alisha feels — she’s scared but determined, and you can’t help but root for her. This is a great book for anyone who loves mysteries, adventure, and a story that keeps you guessing till the end!

This is a fictional novel that begins with the events related to Agha Netra in the fourth century, then moves to the year 1857 and then to the year 2022.

The story is based on Agha Netra and his 9 protectors who keep changing as per the need.

The entire story is interconnected and all the characters are also interconnected.

I was completely hooked on this story from the very beginning. The premise of a box that could alter the future is both fascinating and chilling. Alisha’s vivid nightmares are written in such a way that you can almost feel her fear and urgency.

Her journey to uncover the truth is filled with danger, and the addition of the Triad as powerful antagonists raises the stakes even higher. I loved the dynamic between Alisha and Rajat; their friendship felt genuine and added a lot to the story. The locations described in the book are vivid and atmospheric, pulling you deeper into the mystery.

The author does a fantastic job of balancing fast-paced action with quieter moments of reflection. By the end, I was left wanting more and hoping for a sequel. This is a book that stays with you long after you’ve finished reading.

Review :
"Hunt For The Mysterious Eye" by Harshvardhan Rao is a gripping thriller that combines mythology and history and has a good amount of suspense and action.

In this story we see a group of people who are trying to hide and protect an evil, powerful, mysterious, ancient relic of an eye, while different groups of bad people want to acquire it to get hold of that destructive evil eye. And our protectors give all of their power to get hold of it.

But in this quest they also have to face their past mistakes and learn about their own selves and their power and show their loyalty. This is the first book, and for a bigger quest in the next, I would say this beginning is perfect.

I like reading the book, especially how the author portrays the character of Alisha with her rare disability. Overall, it's a good one-time read while keeping you enthusiastic about the next one.

Harshvardhan Rao weaves a fine action mystery with a hint of the supernatural into a great story. The characters are very well written, and the setting of the story is very much described. Triad never lets the characters off the hook and puts them in harms way more often than not, which, in turn, makes any chance meeting with a gangster a potential life threatening experience. A truly exciting read.

This was a good point that I like about the work the author did with dreams and visions that were added in the story in a very natural way. Alisha’s story is rather heartwarming, there is a clear sense of adventure to her path.

A very engaging book that leaves a very strong impression after the book is closed on and read.

The story follows Alisha, an ordinary woman whose life takes a dark turn when she starts experiencing terrifying dreams—visions of people being killed and a blood-stained box. As these nightmares recur, she realizes she must get to the bottom of this mystery before her own life is in danger.

This book is a true page-turner, filled with well-paced suspense and side characters that add to the intrigue. Given how the book ended, I am expected a sequel soon.

Harshwardhan’s captivating cover art caught my attention, and his easy-to-follow language drew me in right away, making this an effortless and engaging read. With its historical layers and gripping twists, Hunt for the Mysterious Eyes is an exciting, memorable read.
