This is the second edition of a short novella set long before the events of A Lingering Dream that tells of a man born with the wings of a crow who falls in love with a star that hangs east of the wind.
"It was a faint calling that caught me, much like the lure of a siren song, but this pulled to me in a way that was vaguely familiar. It felt like the caress of the wind between my feathers, or the hum of a forgotten lullaby in my bones."
Wings of Starlight is a fantasy romance written in a lyrical style prose. Fans of mythology may enjoy this story.
*Due to popular demand, I expanded the lore in the second edition and published it in December 2024. I think any virtual copies should automatically update to the latest version.
I liked the story the writing was just a little too weird for me to give it 4 stars. This story wasn’t like one I’ve read before and while I was interested and was able to follow along it wasn’t necessarily a book that was for me. For the right person it would be 5 stars but for me it was either 3 or 3.5.
Update: I wanted to add a couple things to this review after thinking about it overnight. I really liked the concept of the story and the love story between the star and crowman. Rereading what I wrote yesterday makes me think the way I wrote it sounds like I didn't like the book and writing style. I found the style interesting but it just wasn't a style that was for me.
I started this book while laying down, and had to move to sit up right because I was so involved in what was happening and felt as if somehow sitting helped me take it all in lol.
The story is just so so SWEET. A tale of forbidden love. Who doesn’t love to read that.
And I adored the world. How every element had a body and form, it was just so beautiful to read.
I haven’t read the rest of the series yet but I absolutely need to now. This was the perfect little novella for today.
This was such a poetic tale. A love story between a crow man and a star.
I picked this up on a SYK day and I’m so glad I did! The way Terri Rath describes every moment and every feeling throughout this novella is magical and it’s left me feeling so warm.
Definitely will be picking up the next book and I can’t wait to get into it 🥰
It was very strange in the beginning (just started reading that type of fantasy), and then it got quite cutesy. The end had me so upset though and I was a little sad at not just how it ended but there wasn't
The writing was something I haven’t really read before but it was so whimsy and poetic. A fun little novella for a palette cleanser. I honestly would have taken more pages of this.
