At the beginning of the story, I was slightly confused about Arielle & her life, but it did slowly start coming together & the gaps were filled in.
The characters are strong, smart, & Arielle is no damsel in distress. And even though Mikhail is a big bad Mafia Don, when it comes to Arielle, he is a real true swoon worthy man. Normally, in Mafia books, the MMC is an a**hole to the MFC for a portion of the book, but not in this book. And that’s what I liked. There are some good twists & turns, & the steamy scenes are sizzling.
It’s not a super dark mafia book & some things seem a little juvenile, unbelievable or don’t add up. But the writing is decent, I just wasn't a big fan of it. This book is still a good read for people who enjoy a Mafia book, but nothing overly dark.
A magnificently written story with drama, suspense, intrigue, action, steamy spicy romance as well as a happily ever after ending it also has great characters throughout the story. Arielle was adopted and raised to be a spy for the government. Her newest target, Mafia Don, Mikhail Ivanov, is the worst kind of criminal. When Arielle finds out he's involved in child trafficking, age tells her adoptive father she'll do whatever it takes to take him down. Mikhail Ivanov falls hard for the blond haired, blue-eyed woman he saved at one is his clubs. A man who never thought he'd fall in love, that it wasn't something in his future, suddenly couldn't see life without Arielle. This book is told from dual POV and it's clear that Mikhail is NOT the criminal that Arielle was told he was. Unfortunately, as the reader, we know this, but Arielle doesn't, and even as she's falling in love with him, she's hating herself for it.
There's a lot of deception, and I honestly couldn't understand how she didn't see that he wasn't who she was told he was. Mikhail clearly was a Mafia Don but abhorred anything to do with harming innocent children. When she finds out she's pregnant, Arielle disappears, knowing that either Mikhail or her father would be out for blood, either hers or her baby's.
This is an intriguing story about Mikhail and Arielle. It is a must read and holds a readers attention from start to finish and all in between. There are secrets, suspense, twists and turns and strong characters. Alexis Lee is a wonderful author.

Secret enemies turned head over heel lovers and it works! Arielle brings out a softer and untapped side of Mikhail through their relationship. He lets her in deeply and suffers the brunt of the burn.
He exhibits genuine gestures throughout as their relationship builds and spiteful ones to lash out after the ultimate betrayals. The tension of secrets carries throughout but is still an easy read.

This book had a lot that just didn’t jive in the right flow for me. Arielle definitely doesn’t need anyone to stand up for her she does that all by herself and Mikhail becomes overly obsessed with her to fast for my taste. I know that the don normally gets what he wants fast but I just felt that it moved to differently in this book for my taste.
I guess when I’m thinking Mafia I’m more into dark romance and this one just didn’t do it for me.

I enjoyed the story of Arielle and Mikhail, although I felt some things were a little rushed but that didn't detract from the rest. It was refreshing to see Arielle as a strong woman who could easily handle herself and didn't need a man to do it for her. Mikhail was also a surprise in that he wasn't a total jerk to her like in most stories.

This story has several twists and turns that kept me interested in it. Arielle is a stand-up woman that doesn't need a man to complete her. Her persona as a strong determined woman draws Mikhail who becomes obsessed with her. Will their relationship lead them along the path to happiness in the end.

Arielle and Mikhail's story is an unexpected one, but it was intriguing as plans do not go as planned. I have enjoyed the overall plot and characters of this book which were well developed and complex.

Mafia life isn't easy but when a Don and Spy meet the flames 🔥 are Hot. Arielle was on a mission to rid the world if the Man that trafficking of children what she didn't expect is her mark to me so much more and fall for him. In the end the truth is revealed but can Mikhail forgive her of all the lies and the secret she kept from him, his son.
Mikhail is targeted to be seduced and to have his secrets stolen. But the last laugh is on his seducer, Arielle. Will she get away with it and at what costs?.

This book certainly had some issues with it, but it also had some redeeming moments, as well. Overall, though, I give this a 3.5, rounding to 3 stars.
There were multiple editing issues which were a big factor in why this was rated as low as it was. First off, there were misspelled words that definitely should have been caught by a spell checker or proofreader.
Second, everything was spread out on a long timeline that didn't feel very organic. Each chapter was jarring with a chunk of time lapsed, and we had to figure out how long it has been this time. It felt as though the author put more time in there in order for things not to be so insta-love, but having the chunks of time there didn't work, either.
Something that did work was the emotion that I got from Arielle at the end of the book, after they all moved back to New York. I could feel her breaking, and it was handled well. That redeemed a lot of the rating that I was going to take away. I initially didn't like her at all, and I felt she was very immaturely written. She did get a little better, though.
I don't think I will read the other books in this series (unless an ad pops up for them, as well, like this one).
