She originally went to school to become an equine veterinarian but soon figured out they keep horrible hours and decided to go to grad school instead. After graduation she got a job with the state of Colorado as their one and only hog farm inspector and spent her days wandering the Eastern Plains shooting the shit with farmers. She wrote more than two hundred of those workbooks and was the number one publisher at the online homeschool store many times, but eventually she covered every science topic she could think of and ran out of shit to say.
So in 2012 she decided to write fiction instead. That year she released her first three books and started a career that would make her a New York Times bestseller and land her on the USA Today Bestseller’s List eighteen times in the next three years. Her books have sold millions of copies all over the world, the audio version of her semi-autobiographical book, Eighteen, was nominated for a Voice Arts Award and an Audie award in 2016 and 2017 respectively, her audiobook Mr. Perfect was nominated for a Voice Arts Award in 2017, and her book, Taking Turns, was nominated for an Audie Award in 2018. ★★★★ 1/2! Come, book 1 of 3! Harper on the run meets assassin James Fenici. He says he only wants to seduce her, but what if she’s his target?

Come (part 1) is the prologue to the Dirty, Dark and Deadly series introducing us to 18 year runaway Harper Tate, Harp aka Come aka The Little Soldier and 26 year old assassin James Fenici aka Tet aka Six.
“Once your name is on my list, your life is over. It’s a deal I make with death, it’s a contract I sign in blood, it’s forgone conclusion— get used to it.”
Story opens up to James stalking Harper in the coastal town she has made her home for the past 11 months. The reason why they both ended up there to unfold with series. After 3 months in her shadow, James’ got it bad; he wants her and sets out to have her.
“I’m the one who came to her. I’m the one who found her. I’ll be the one to keep her.”
Their first encounter is a disaster and so a cat-and-mouse game of seduction ensues with a possessive, commanding and relentless James in high pursuit. Sex with James proves to be raw and demanding.
With their solitary lifestyles a kinship is formed. But with their sordid and hidden pasts comes suspicion. He says he wasn’t sent to her and swears she is not his target, but what if she is?
Just when Harper thinks she has things figured out she is back at square one. Could the person she is running from be the person she is running to? Or are both just pawn in a much bigger game? This prologue will scratch the surface and hint to the storm ahead….

Effortless story-telling! Mysterious plot! Interesting characters! Steamy sex scenes! A great opening to the series!

J.A. Huss has done it again. Solidified why she is one of my favorite authors. With her original story lines, fabulous writing, interesting characters and sexy scenes, all I can say after reading this is I want MORE James and Harper!
COME is about a girl named Harper who has become invisible. Thats the way she wants it. The way it has to be. It’s the only way she can survive.
Invisible to everyone but James.
Who is this James? Where does he come from? What does he want from her? How long as he been watching her? What he wants may be obvious... but there is so much more there. There is a pull between them. Harper feels it, even though she shouldn’t. There is no way she can get involved with anyone. Especially someone like James. But he’s irresistible.
Novellas can be tricky things for me. 5 star ratings are hard because I usually feel like I don’t get enough character development or story. Thankfully, that was not the case here. Huss packed so much into this novella. I was sucked in from the first page and stayed fully invested. I love her writing style, was intrigued by the characters, and enjoyed the suspense and of course, the steamy scenes. This is one novella you won’t want to miss!

Huss will let us know. We will be getting more of these two!

Come is one of eight novellas included in the BEND Anthology from eight of the Queens of Erotica. BEND will be available for a limited time and include never before released stories. Harper is just barely eighteen, she’s on her own and she is hiding from a past that might not be that easy to escape. Trying to blend in to her surroundings, Harper finds herself the target of a man’s affections that is just as dangerous as it is arousing. But the one thing that Harper needs to be to remain safe is invisible, attracting the attention of any man, especially this man could destroy her.
James spends his days watching her. He knows everything there is to know about her except for how her body will feel beneath his, but he knows it won’t be long until those secrets reveal themselves.
When James can no longer stay away, the chase begins. As much as Harper knows that she should not let this man get close – that she should run, her body can’t deny the attraction. She wants him just as badly as he wants her.
Absolutely Brilliant! J.A. Huss won me over with Rook & Ronin and then blew me away with giving me Ford & Spencer while giving us one twisted story that was so much bigger than I could have imagined... There are some connections to her prior books but those are not obvious enough to where you’d ruin your reading experience by starting off with this as your first JAH experience. For first timers, this novella is a great introduction to the style of this author.
There is something about the characters that JAH creates that just demand your full attention. It’s not just about the connection you feel with them instantly or the way they are developed; which are both done amazingly well... It’s just that they are so complex that you just are always on the cusp of thinking you’ve figured them all out, then BAM something new is introduced that causes your entire experience to shift.
After reading the prior series and spin off books, I have some ideas of where this story may go and if I am even the slightest bit correct in my crazed conspiracy theories I think I can safely say that there is not going to be one part of this storyline that is not going be five stars.
Harper is one of those characters that, just like the ladies before her – will be adored. She is fierce and a complete bad-ass, even being as young as she is. There are so many possibilities for this character and I just can’t wait to see where we are taken.
And the heat? Scorching. James is completely in control of what he wants and how he wants to take it.
There is no giving in to this man, there is just pure surrender. And oh I can’t wait to see this man in all his glory. For those who have already experienced JAH – you’ll know what I mean. – I need this man to break, I need him to build himself back up and I need to experience him at full throttle.
Do not miss your chance to experience this story, this anthology and these authors.

Hook, line and sinker. This woman never ceases to blow me away. I have had this novella on my kindle for months, why??? Why, didn't I read this sooner.
I absolutely loved this opening to James and Harper's story. I can't imagine what's coming next, but I am sure there will be tons of heat, crazy twists, and more heart stopping moments.

First and foremost, I want to say a BIG THANK YOU to J.A. Huss for gifting me the ARC of COME. <3 <3
Holy Shit….COME by J.A. Huss is F*CKING AMAZING!!!! Seriously, Ms. Huss will bewitch you with her creativity and writing. From the very first page to the last page of this novella, I was hooked and was left begging for the release of the next book. Within this short novella, J.A. was able to pack so much suspense and sexiness that you didn’t want it to end.
Keeping to herself and head down, Harper wants to be invisible. All that changes when James takes notice of Harper. No longer invisible, James wants Harper. She is his light..his beacon in the dark. So when secrets and truths are exposed and revealed, James and Harper must face what’s in store for them TOGETHER. And so the craziness and suspense begins.
I was consumed with James and Harper’s story in this brief introduction in COME. This novella was a sample tease of what’s to COME and let me just tell you that I am ready for this crazy roller-coaster ride to begin!! I need more James and Harper!! So if you are looking for a sexy suspenseful quick read, then I highly recommend COME by J.A. Huss.

Wow loved this one.... SEXY, HOT, lots of Chemistry, a good plot, fantastic writing all summed up in COME!!
Harper- Harp has been on the run, she lives secretly in a small flat she exists but she doesn't live. As a child she was made to be brought into a life she doesn't exactly want to involved in, she's small but she can be lethal, her father sold her and is preparing her to be sold to be married to an old man, to live a particular way, to behave a particular way and to live a particular lifestyle all this by the time she's 18. So she made a plan and is now on the run she doesn't let anyone know who she is nor get to now anyone intimately or as a friend, she just does her normal routine, eat, sleep go to the harbour see the sunset daily and that's it. But she miss's her brother, she is a twin and that holds something deep in her that she's not willing to share. She also miss's love, she wants to Feel.
James has been watching Harper for a long time, he wants her ALOT, he wants her body and SHE is HIS.
James is Strong, he's an Alpha, he's powerful, he's older than Harper, and he should walk away but SHE IS HIS and they slowly embark on something more than lust because he wants to get to know her and ultimately she is his to own....
James gives Harper time to let him in, he wants her desperately but he knows her and he's willing to give her the power.
Eventually they let each other into their lives and start to COME together..

My thoughts
This is a short story packed full with Intrigue, a great plot that grabbed my attention, two tortured characters that need each other to feel whole and plenty to chemistry. This is a prequel to her new series Dirty, Dark and Dangerous a romantic suspense duet so this leaves you wanting more and I can't freaking wait for more James and Harper.

Harper is a young girl on the run, hiding from her family. For the past few months, she's tried to be been invisible. Living in solitude, never seeking out social interactions...but all of that changes the moment she meets the darkly handsome James. Someone with connections to her past life who could threaten to reveal her hiding place. Except, he doesn't want to turn her in, he just wants to get to know her. With his sweet promises and irresistible seduction, he makes her want more too. More than the solitude and loneliness she's been living in, he makes her want to connect, to finally feel again.

Novellas are hard for me to review because they always leave me wanting more. And this time it was no different. James and Harper's story has only just taken off and the ending already hints at what's more in store for these two. The author has done a really great job at creating these unique and interesting characters with a special, mysterious background and has managed to make this a captivating, fast-paced and deliciously dark novella that I would highly recommend giving a try.

"Im tired of being invisible."
Hmm... this a short prequel that didn't really catch or hold my interest.
Sadly, I wasn't hooked by story line (Life on a ship? The Order? Her Code Name? )running away from an arranged marriage in some sort of criminal organization. Perhaps if I got more information because the back story I got wasn't anything that excited me to read the next book.
The immediate 'you're mines' by James Fenici was a bit over the top as well as the sex scenes with this eighteen year old virgin.

Harper Tate is an 18 yr. old girl who is in hiding. She grew up with only her twin brother, and after being separated from him, took off on her own. She is running from her past, and trying to salvage her future. She wants to be invisible to others, and live her life on her own terms. She follows a routine, but keeps to herself. One of her only joys is watching the sunset every night at the Huntington Beach Pier. Suddenly she starts to feel like someone is watching her, and is worried she has been found.
James Fenici aka Tet is a 28 yr. old mafia assassin. He is a sexy, ruthless, dirty killer in need of a vacation. He shows up in the OC to unwind, and get himself together after all that recently happened with his brother. He begins pretty much stalking Harper watching her every move for like 3 months. Once he makes himself known to her, he seems to have no boundaries. James is used to getting what he wants, & he has decided he wants Harper. Harper is terrified of him, because she thinks he is there to harm her. Even though she is suspicious of him, she can't deny how much she is attracted to him. His body is beautiful, and every time that green stare lands on her, it sets her on fire! They end up together, and in true J.A. Huss fashion, it is HOT HOT HOT!!! Really enjoyed this novella, & can't wait for more James & Harper! :D

4.5 Suspenseful Stars!
Wow! I'm intrigued! Come is a prequel within the Bend Anthology, a prequel to the Dirty, Dark and Dangerous Duet. I went into Bend a little leery of reading a book full of prequels but, in all honesty, I'm happy I chose to read it. It's given me a heads up to books I know I'd like to read down the road, books such as this. Now I'm hooked and looking forward to the sequels.
Harper is on the run, in hiding. She lives in a basement apartment in Huntington Beach CA, watching the sun rise and fall day after day. No friends, no family, no human interaction short of ordering food daily at the restaurants she purposefully won't frequent enough to be remembered.
Sunrise, sunset.
One day, a strikingly hot guy approaches her on the Pier. He wants to know her name, get to know her. She flees...and he catches her. This man is a trap, spikes desires she's never felt. He propositions her.....he's tough to deny. She craves touch, human interaction.
James has been watching her for months. She's so regimented each and every day. Sunrise, workout, eat.. disappears... sunset... repeat. He knows everything about her day to day life, her apartment, her bottle of anxiety medication she has but doesn't take, her life of solitude. She will be his. Give it time...she will be his.
That's all you get. Wow. This prequel will hook you from page one, rest assured. James is as secretive as Harper and you crave to know who they are, why they're living this life of secrecy. The author trickle feeds the reader the answers, developing their characters solidly in your head. I suspect I know who this enigma of James is. His connection to Harper but I shall have to wait until the next installment is published in late June. Looking forward to it!

5 BLAZING STARS
This was one AMAZING read – HOT does not even do it justice!

I absolutely love J.A. Huss and COME is the prequel to her two part series on James Fenici (aka Tet or Six), who is first introduced in her spinoff Guns: The Spencer Book and Harper, a runaway destined for a prearranged marriage and future. I consumed this in one sitting and I am going to have to read it again because it happened too fast!
I don't know how she does it but JA Huss is gifted in creating the most delectable men and real, genuine, likable women characters. I liked James in GUNS but am so thrilled that he's going to have his own books. This man is dangerously sex on a stick. And Harper intrigues me. Despite being only 18, she's lethal, strong but also alone, fragile and scared.

This was a brilliant story and I can hardly contain myself in waiting for the first book.

I have to say the writing didn't work for me. I found the dialogue stilted and the narrative, amateurish. Some sentences, I had to re-read twice or thrice just so they'd make sense.
The plot was intriguing but the execution fell flat flat.
Surprisingly, Harper didn't annoy me as much but thehero zero, James is another stalker douche. I couldn't find anything remotely likable about him. Half the time, I wanted to knee his junk. Other times, I want to high-five him. With a chair. Excuse me for the violent thoughts but this guys is not a hero.

4.5 What Am I Reading, What Is The Plan Stars * * * * 1/2
I have loved Every.Single.Book I have read by J.A.Huss. I discovered her with the book Tragic... was intrigued by her spinning the tale of Rook and Ronin through it and continuing on with Manic and Panic. I have already shared how I felt the growth of the artist as the additional books came... that is a given. So, with these thoughts already formulated, I looked forward to the novella she was contributing to Bend.
Come is this slice of something so well crafted, I wasn't sure what I was reading at first. Now that may seem like a contradiction but actually think about it... something so good, it could be anything... it could fit almost any type of genre...Is it a mystery? A romance? Is it present day or futuristic.... what the hell is this... because I felt all of those and they all worked.
We have Harper... she is running from something or someone.... she knows how to be hidden in plan sight...she is slight; only 18 and deceptively beautiful in her natural state. She has created this life of low key existence.... greeting the dawn and kissing the dusk everyday. She is careful in a casual way and thinks she has achieved her goal of blending in and keeping to herself. She is paranoid, however, watching and checking.... no interaction with others.... as THEY.... are looking for her.
He has been observing....watching and seeing all. He knows what she eats; if she takes the pills to calm her nerves and even has read her deepest thoughts. He is drawn to her like moth to flame and knows she is a force to be reckoned with.... yet there is a calling in him to her... to know her... and possibly be with her, always....
As we read this novella, we get to experience all of Harper's thoughts as well as James'. They are both trapped... trapped in a place where things have not always been of their making and they have learned carefully when to fight their battles... which ones to pick... because by biding one's time and assessing, that is how one achieves the necessary advantage and then goal.
These two characters are so interesting... this new world order they may belong to is an enigma.... there is enough information and story telling for us to get a sense of what is to come with them and the upcoming duet of books by Huss.
The steam level in this novella is so high, it could power a locomotive across the continent.... I can only imagine what she has in store for us with the upcoming books.

This book is the prequel to a new series by J.A Huss called "Dirty,Dark, and Deadly. Through most of this story I had lots of questions about what exactly was going on. I enjoyed every minute of it though, and I am officially hooked and invested in this series.
I can't wait to find out exactly what James Fenici's intentions are towards Harper. He stalked her for quite awhile before he actually approached her. Harper, is a curious character all on her own. It seemed like she had some major emotional problems. She wanted to live her life "invisible" and she did the same things day after day. Each day was watching the sun rise and set, and never did she stop and talk to anyone. The day that changes Harper's life, is the day that James approaches her. She will never be the same again.
Sparks fly between these two; but each of them are carrying secrets, and trust doesn't come easy to either one of them.
I loved reading about James and Harper, especially when they finally give in to their passion for one another. I can't really say a heck of a lot about what is going on...because truthfully, I really don't know!!! I will be sure to pick up the next book though, and I can't wait to dive in! This is my first time reading a book that is written by J.A. Huss, but I can be sure that it won't be the last. I love her style, and the sex scenes that she wrote were electric! I loved every word of those scenes. It is going to be an interesting journey between James and Harper, and I'm glad that the next book is out now! This is a series that will be top priority for my reading pleasure!

If this is the Prequel I honestly can't wait for the full book!
I thought I was reading a simple story about a girl who wanted to stay invisible and a man who "saw" her. I was wrong.
Harper's "existence" is quiet and unassuming, so it may seem. As the layers to the story unravel we discover our innocent heroine is also a "Little Soldier"
Alone and on the run we get snippets of who she's running from and what she's looking for.
As much as she tries to stay hidden, she's caught the attention of someone. Mr Beautiful, James, Number 6. He has his own mission, he has his own past and his own demons but nothing that will get in the way of him finally having Harper.
As readers we get the feeling that apart from observing her as he has been, he's known Harper. I won't lie, sometimes I thought he was a bit of a creeper but he's also extremely hot and protective of her, it was easily forgiven.
As much as I like James I was left wondering whether he could really be trusted, would Harper's loneliness cloud her judgement? We'll soon see!
"COME" was more than I imagined and I'm happy about that, maybe it's the way J.A. Huss writes or that I haven't read a book of this nature done well before but I loved it.

Such a lot packed into such a short story, but what fantastic characters, especially Harper. I particularly enjoyed her slow development, with new revelations throughout the piece.
I very much liked James too, although I'm far less sure of him.
On the surface of it, it seems their tale cannot end well, except maybe, well, there is an outcome I can foresee which might give good closure, but I still can't see that being a full blown HEA.
So then, more questions than answers. I love this type of book, and in the Bend Anthology, where I read it, it fits so perfectly with the writing style of CD Reiss, which is very similar, and equally enjoyable.
This was my first read of a JA Huss book, and it Won't be my last.

O, la, la, well, I'm actually pretty shocked by my own reaction to this book male character! I don't usually fall that hard, that fast
anyway, I can't exactly explain what happened here, cause to tell you the truth, it wasn't like I've discovered smth totally new here,or as if I haven't read about similar characters...so I'll try to explain to myself first by rationalizing it to the tiniest bits:
1)the story - anticipating, fast, thrilling, misterious... what more do you need?
2)alpha male, of course, duh?
His hands grab me by the waist and yank me to his chest. “You think you want me? You think you want to know more?” He leans down and breathes into my neck for a moment. “Would you like me to take you, Harper?”
“Because I will. I’m that kind of guy. The kind who’ll seduce a little girl and fuck her wild just because he can make her think she wants him so bad, she’ll spread her legs and do as she’s told.”
3) the mistery, the thrill, the danger, the "not good" part of his occupation
He turns to face me head-on now, his expression blank, his mouth a flat line. His eyes impassive and empty. I can see it now. Thisis a killer’s face. The dimples are hiding underneath the frown. The emotionless facade of a hardened assassin. A man who sees death as nothing personal, just a job to be completed.

**The Dirty, Dark and Deadly series has been re-released in KU as one book called The Company. I’m only writing one review for all 3 books. (Come, Come Back, Coming for You) I believe this says it can read as a standalone, but you are going to be missing information because this storyline was introduced in Spencer’s book, and won’t be complete until Wasted Lust: Sasha (8) . I’ll add a link to a summary of all the books at the end.**

If death is a deal, then love is a promise.
To catch everyone up, at the end of Spencer’s book, we learned that Bobby Mansi was actually Company assassin James Fenici AKA Tet & Six. He killed his evil brother Tony as a debt to Merc, who had a debt to Ford. Tony was Ford’s wife, Ashleigh's fiancé and Baby Kate’s biological father. During this standoff, Ashleigh's sis, Amber was killed by Tony. James had loved Amber, but left her so she’d marry another. He also killed the crooked FBI agent in prison so the gang didn’t have to go to trial. At the end while speaking to Merc, he stated that he had failed his psych eval, and was being sent somewhere for a vacation.
If I tell you to walk through fire, it’s because I know beyond a doubt that you are fireproof. If I tell you to take a bullet, it’s because I know that you are bulletproof. If I tell you to walk away from me, it’s because you know I will come back for you. No matter what I tell you to do, you will do it, and you will be safe because I said so. Because I love you. Because you trust my love.”
The Company follows 28-yr-old Company assassin James, and 18-yr-old Company girl Harper, and is my favorite book of the series. The next three books have more of an action/secret organization vibe to it rather than just focusing on the relationship aspect that we saw in the other Rook & Ronin books. Sasha is also in the mix, and we get a lot of background on her. (She met Ford in his book, and he learned that her father was killed) So to break it down…
James is a smidge crazy, he was given to the Company by his parents, and has been an assassin since he was 16. He also spent some time being tortured when he was captured during a mission.
Harper is the Admiral (boss of Company) and has lived secretly on a boat. She’s been sheltered to a certain degree, but has some combat skills that she learned from her twin, Nick. (His storyline completes in Sasha’s book)
Sasha is a 13-yr-old orphan that has been trained by her father, a Company assassin trainer. They’ve lived off-grid in a RV traveling as arms dealers.
“This isn’t your fight, lionfish. This one’s mine. So save your moves for something else.” And then he kisses my mouth and slaps my ass. “I got this. The only thing I want you to do is let me fuck you. Let me make this world safe for us. And let me keep you forever.”
This is a long one, and there’re a lot of moving parts, but I enjoyed it. I really like fictional crazy H’s that are nutso, but love their women. There’re so many twisty turns, and I was eating it up.
Bottom Line- Great read for me, but if you hated the second ½ of Spencer’s book then you might not like this one. *All the books are listed HERE.

This is just my guess since I can't find these books and The Company is 662 pages about James and Harper:) Ms. Huss has re-released, renamed her books many times, so if your as confused as me hopefully this will help.

Bomb & Guns = Spencer
Come, Come Back & Coming to you = The Company

Reread 8/23 and loved it just as much as the first time!!!
All I can say is JA Huss is a freakin rockstar. I am amazed at the punch she packed in her new novella, Come. You will salivate, your mind will be twisted, you will be intrigued, and because JA never fails in the hotness department, you will need new panties. God does she know how to write a sex scene. Come to think of it she knows how to write romance, intrigue, suspense and characters that never fall short to keep you thirsting for more. She never lets you down. You want it all—need it, crave it.
We meet eighteen year old Harper who is just trying to get through life under the radar. She needs her privacy, needs to remain unseen—need to be no one. ZERO. She goes about her daily life craving some interaction, but knows it’s pointless to dream. Hiding from her past, she is terrified to have it collide with her future.
James has been watching Harper. Though he doesn’t know her name, he knows everything about her. What she eats, when she sleeps, where she goes—he is obsessed—but what he wants most is to have her for his own.
The day finally comes where James can’t wait any longer. He needs her, craves her, wants her. And when they finally meet… Electricity. Desire. Want. Need. The push, the pull. So. Freakin. Hot. I NEED more.

Melted me into a pool of hot lava. Even his name—James Fenici. How HOT is that name. GAWD. I just wanted to pick myself up and go sit on the beach and watch the sunset and wait for James to come find me. Then I want to sit on his face… oops I mean lap, and get to know him better. With my tongue, oh I mean with conversation.
This novella packed a serious punch. I’ll say it again… every book JA Huss writes just makes you realize why you fell in love with her writing in the first place. Even in this novella, you get kick-ass characters, plot twists that get your brain all freaked out wondering where the story is going, and chemistry between the two main characters that will have you demanding that you COME yourself.
