He's the grumpiest alien dragon shifter this side of the galaxy, and the last thing he wants for Christmas is a fated mate.
With my fellow humans all safely coupled up with their Sarkarnii mates, I have a growing problem. I'm pregnant.
So I insisted on being left on Kitchik, a tiny planet where the weather has already taken a turn for the worse. As the snow falls and I try to get used to my new existence and impending birth, I run into Drekkan.
Big, bad, fire breathing Drekkan. He's been marooned on Kitchik for too long and all he wants to do is cause trouble. Plus, he hates the winter solstice celebration which is just about to take place.
Thing is, I love a bad boy, and Drekkan is as bad as they come. But he wouldn't want a pregnant human with no home to speak of...and who loves Christmas as much as he hates it...would he?
This short Christmas Sarkarnii tale featuring Jade and Drekkan will warm your toes and set fire to other parts. Featuring a pregnant lady, festive celebrations and the grumpiest of grumpy dragons who's heart is thawed by love, you'll want to curl up with this book all winter!
3.5 Drekkan was such a grouchy asshole but changed his tune after meeting Jade. The little planetoid they both ended up on was semi-utopian and offered them safety and security, although Drekkan had a harder time grasping that than Jade did. I liked that he so readily accepted her mysterious pregnancy and wanted to spoil her. I liked that she made the effort to carve out a safe place for her and her unborn child. I would have loved more of their getting to know each other on page tho.
Spice: 2/5
Triggers: pregnancy, references to captivity and involuntary medical experimentation, discussion of loss of family and friends during spaceship crash, mention of parent death, mentions of imprisonment, references to genocide
Just the sweet grumpy dragon treat I was looking for. Who doesn't lo e a Sarkarnii warrior? I personally would love to have one of my very own ,but alas Drekkan belongs to Jade in this sweet and spicy Christmas treat. Jade left her friends on the Golden Orion because she was afraid. Afraid of the past trauma that left her pregnant and about to give birth. She decides she's need to be planet side and a petty little planet with very happy people all getting ready to celebrate the solstice was her choice. What she didn't count on was finding a lone Sarkarnii warrior stranded and unhappy who would do just about anything to get off the frozen rock he crashed on. Drekkan is grumpy and has every right to be. He's not sure there are any Sarkarnii left after the invasion of his planet. He lost his ship and the one person he was closest to his brother. He just wants off this happy rock of a planet so he can go search the stars. Then he meets Jade and his whole center of focus shifts. Can two lonely people find happiness , love and acceptance? Well you need to read this wonderful Christmas treat and find out you won't be disappointed! !Ioved it 🌟🔥💖🌟🔥💖🌟🔥💖🌟🔥💖🌟🔥🔥💖🌟🔥💖🔥
Another fantastic addition to the Sarkarnii collection! The author took the opportunity of the holidays to find a new character as well as a new world to explore. I am glad that Jade was able to overcome her ordeal and find a mate and a community to bring her peace and joy. The residents may be overly happy, but they make sure to put the happiness of others first. This book combined the Sarkarnii with the love of Christmas and even included a grump and a few ghosts to round out the holiday theme. I enjoyed reading this story and I can’t wait to see who joins the group next and finds the one who makes them dance.
❤️ “I want you until the stars go out, and then I’ll want you some more.” ~~~ Jade is amazing! She’s brave, strong and resilient. Even more, she’s so fierce. And I loved that she never hesitated to stand up to even the most fearsome of predators. And after being taken from Earth and experimented on, Jade’s life gets even more complicated. But I loved her determination and courage to not give up and seek a better life for herself and her unborn child. Jade is a wonderful woman and I loved her so, so much!
And then, there’s Drekkan! He’s such a growly, grumpy, arrogant, angry and lethal Sarkarnii warrior. But there’s more to the hotheaded warrior than meets the eye. Because Drekkan is also caring, loyal, honorable, considerate and fiercely protective. Drekkan’s been through a lot and has lost so much, but the big, bad Sarkarnii with a huge heart is an incredible male and I couldn’t help but adore every single thing about him!
I absolutely loved everything that happened between Jade and Drekkan! Jade leaves her friends and their Sarkarnii mates to settle on Kitchik where she meets Drekkan - the surliest Sarkarnii of them all, who’s been marooned on the planet for years and is determined to do everything to leave. I absolutely adored those two together! From the moment they met, Sarkarnii was smitten with the fierce woman and I loved his determination to make her his, but Jade definitely didn’t make it easy for him. But when a Sarkarnii warrior finds his mate - he falls hard and fast! Every moment they spent together, every banter, every tease - all was an absolute delight to read! And I loved how supportive and understanding they were of each other. Even more, Jade and Drekkan were such opposites and, yet, they fit so well together. And when they finally gave into the undeniable need for one another, the passionate moments they shared were scorching hot! Jade and Drekkan were so perfect for each other and more than deserved to find happiness and love amidst an alien winter wonderland and holiday celebrations.
Overall, the story is another spectacular addition to the series - it’s fun, emotional, festive, sweet and naughty!
This is a fantastic story, and I really enjoyed reading it. Drekkan, a Sarkarnii warrior, crash landed on Kitchik and alien planet and has been trying for quite awhile to find the parts to fix his ship so that he can leave and try and find more of his kind. He has been a troublemaker since he landed and has tried everything he can to find the parts he needs, but when he discovers Jade one night while he is in the village, he recognises her as his mate. Jade had been with the other Sarkarnii Warriors on the prison planet, and when she discovered that she was pregnant, she wanted to be let off at a friendly planet where she can raise her baby. I love these two characters and the way they bounced off each other and eventually fell in love. It was great when the other Warriors came to his dance for his mate. The Warriors realise that there are other Sarkarnii out in the universe, and now they have to find them.
I was given an advanced copy of this book to read and I am reviewing with my honest and fair opinion.
Sarkarnii!!! They’re so serious and grumpy that it just adds to the hilarity of the situations they find themselves in…especially when it comes to finding their little human mates.
Great novella starring Jade and her mate, Drekkan. It was nice to see what she’s been up to and to giggle over her finding a mate in a species she vowed to avoid. Drekkan is so grumpy and thinks he’s pulling the wool over everyone’s eyes but not really. She finds herself in a sticky situation and Drekkan just added to that. But it was super sweet how they come together for their HEA and with found family.
I love that Hattie Jacks ties in many different species, worlds, and characters from across her various series. The tie ins are awesome.
***I was given this book as an ARC and this is my own opinion on the book.***
We finally get to see what happens to Jade and sure enough she wanted to get away from the Sarkarnii, but fate has other plans. I love reading about why she felt she had to leave. And she had good reasons. Drekken is very grumpy. Stuck on a "happy" planet when all he wants to do is fix his ship and get out of there. I loved the subtle humor , the twists and fast paced action. Steam to the eventual romance. I loved it when Drekken figured out who Jade is to him and how possessive he became. Also how he dealt with the mayor to get the things he thought Jade needed. The flow was good. This is a standalone story but it does mention previous characters. The HEA was wonderful. I received a free copy of this book via Bookfunnel and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This was such a sweet story, and it was fun to see Jade end up with a grumpy Sarkarnii mate!! Considering Jade was the grumpiest of the earth women found in the Kirakos, she was best equipped to handle this dragon shifter. Watching these two was mesmerizing, as they seemed to fall instantly even though Drekkan tried his best to intimidate Jade at the beginning. They had all the best elements of Sarkarnii - human interactions present including the spice. I enjoyed this book immensely, and was thrilled to see a cameo by Draco, Amber, and the crew from the Golden Orion, plus another tie to the Gryn in Jade’s little boy! To read there are more stories featuring the Sarkarnii ahead was very exciting!
“I would give her every star in the galaxy just to make her mine. Just to be able to hold her, touch her, be with her.”
Jade decides to leave after becoming a test subject and becoming pregnant, and she ends up on our new planet all alone. That is, until she meets Drekkan. He is a very grumpy dragon, who just wants to leave the planet but can’t because his ship is broken. Once he sees Jade, he knows she is his.
Their story was a sweet one, with Jade feeling wanted and cared for and Drekkan is more than happy to give it to her. He is so grumpy to everyone but her, and is really only nice to her so he is the perfect cinnamon roll which we all love 💕
Let's be honest as a species trait the Sarkani have being grumps practically in their DNA. That is not to say that I do not adore them for that at all. Drekkan just wants to fix his ship, he had no plans to do with anything celebratory and get off the rock he has been stranded on for, in his opinion, far too long. For all the snarl he does follow his own type of code of conduct. I really felt for Jade, bless her. She's trying to do her best and at the same time also trying so hard to avoid the Sarkani and yet, look where she's got herself! I'm so pleased that these two found each other. It was a perfect festive offering for a series that I cannot get enough of.
Hattie Jacks’ books are amazing! In Grumpy Dragon Christmas we’re on another new world full of happiness and joy… except for one grumpy hellraiser named Drekkar who turns out to be one of the lost dragons! Jade, a human impregnated with a child by the nasty Bogarok has left the group and settled on the new planet awaiting the birth of her mystery child. As soon as bad boy Drekkar meets her he is lost to the rut and tenderly cares for Jade throughout the rest of her pregnancy. In the end, the rest of the dragon clan and their mates arrive in time to watch Drekkar get jiggly with it for his new mate. Love all these books!
OMG! Hattie Jacks this was an awesome story and I loved it! I don’t know which race I like best, The Grynn or the Sarkarnii. Drekkan is a stranded Sarkarnii who doesn’t realize that his race survived. He’s angry, lonely and full of survivors guilt. Jade is the human female who finds out she was impregnated by her alien captors. She doesn’t know who or what her baby might be and leaves the Golden Orion to go planetside by herself. The last thing she wants to run into is another Sarkarnii. It was such a romantic and steamy romance and I absolutely adored Drekkan! Such a grumpy not grinch. And that ending, perfect!
I was so happy to read a story about Jade. I thought you forgot about her And what a story. We find out what happened to her which ultimately leads her to her fated mate Drekkan on another planet He is Sarkarni too which means all the abducted females in this series is mated to a Sarkarnii. This is a little different than the other books but just as entertaining and enjoyable Hattie never ceases to amaze me with her imagination and ability to create these worlds and characters to keep us reading all her stories I am currently reading the Gryn series and getting ready to read Chained And can’t wait to get started Great job with this novella
This was such an entertaining read that has some festiveness to it to make it a page turner. Of course, having two characters that are opposites, in so many ways, as fated mates lets you know you'll be madly reading until you hit the end ;) Jade is brave and so fierce - and pregnant. Drekkan is growly, grumpy and downright surly ;) He may not have wanted a mate, but he fell hard and fast for her. Lol! There's some fun banter between these two and they mesh together so well. Expect a sweet and naughty romance when you dive into this fun read :D
I read all the other Sarkarnii books by Hattie Jacks. They are loveable galoots with hearts filled with as much fire as their accelerant glands.
Drakken, like the other Sarkarnii, has a limitless love for his mate. His joy at her youngling is so pure. He loves this child of unknown species without hesitation.
His gift of unconditional love to Jade surrounds and heals her. She comes to love Drekkan and all his Sarkarnii-ness. After all, who could resist a fiery hot dragon with iridescent scales? Certainly not me!
Thought this would be a fun quick listen (under 3 hours) to end out my 2025 year, but I struggled to listen as only one narrator - she tried but she could not do the male parts well, so kind of ruined an otherwise good story with lots of steam and fun.
I stopped listening barely 30 minutes in and instead read the story on kindle.
Story fun, ste4amty goodness, listening they really missed it, I would rather wait longer for dual narration then pay for a narrator given too much they could not handle.
“You already make my life the brightest it’s ever been, heartsfire,”
A broken human struggling, a hotheaded Sarkarnii, a dream planet where everyone wants your happiness ,all wrapped up with the talent of Hattie Jacks. It's all in this short and sweet story. In the same line of the other books of the series, it's a short read but you'll not find it lacking in comparison with the longer books. I highly recomend!
I don't think he is grumpy at all. He just needs a good bath and scratch 🤣 When the Sarkarnii fall, they fall hard and Drakkon is sexy as sin.
This story is definitely in a festive wonderland. It gives you all the right feels. Who could ask for more? It was amazing too hear from our other Sarkarnii males and their mates too. 💜
Jade has come to Kitchik because she is pregnant with an unknown alien species baby through bad guys experiments. Drekkan has been here for three years and wants off but he needs to fix his ship. He has a bad sad past so he's grumpy. Love story par excellence. Enjoy
This is an enjoyable alien romance. Drakkon surely is a grumpy miserable character, no joy in his life until he meets the little human female who changes everything. Well written with a great storyline, some colourful characters a little steam and romance, very enjoyable indeed
At once you feel for Steinem and you hope that he meets Jade so she can tell him about the Golden Orion and its crew. The fact that she hid her pregnancy and it turns out to be a Grin makes it all the more lovely. This is a great addition to the series and I loved that he was a new found Sarkarnii.
This was my first adventure with the Sarkarnii and I loved it! These two are so amazing together. The way they fit and balance the other is absolutely wonderful. Fantastic chemistry and spicy scenes... loved it!
I can’t not stand when an author selectively inserts alien words. The MMC speaks perfectly normal English except when he is cussing and then we get Nev’d to death. It was used so much and was utterly distracting. Other than that the book fine, as in meh fine.
I thoroughly enjoyed the characters, both the hero & heroine, as well as several supporting ones that were impactful to the story. This tale has several twists and turns that keep it interesting. You can pretty much bet on a Hattie Jacks story to be a good one!
Loved this story. The interaction of the characters were amazing. Well written ,the flow was like a flood of emotions. love conquers all regardless of being human or alien.
Awesome alien romance!! I absolutely loved it. Hattie writes the most lovable grumps! Sexy and sweet, heartfelt and healing.. This adorable Sarkarnii/human couple have found their place.
