Hatching Hazel Being wildly attracted to my best friend’s little sister was kind of a nightmare. Especially when she knew every vivid detail of my very active sex life. When her best friend offered the opportunity to get to know her through a blind dating experiment where she won’t know who she’s talking to for two weeks, I didn’t hesitate to take the opportunity to show her who I was beyond all the miscommunication.
Resisting Reid Having a secret crush on your older brother’s best friend may be fun in middle school, but in real life, it kind of sucked. Especially when he used the bar I work at as a hunting ground for his next conquest. But when I needed his help for a special illustration project, he might be the only man I could trust. It was too bad I was already falling for someone else’s words, or was I?
Illicit Illustration is a sweet yet spicy interconnected stand-alone novel with a charming, seductive, dirty mouthed golden retriever and his best friend’s little sister who isn’t as shy as she seems.
That’s what EL Koslo strives to do in her life every day. She spent her youth with her nose in a book, often conjuring up storylines in a composition notebook she hid under her mattress. Her love of writing continued on through high school as she served on the school paper and wrote poetry for the literary magazine.
At University, she studied Art and Art History where she met her own prince charming after kissing a few frogs, of course.
Her love of reading and writing have been a constant in her life with her nose always buried in a book, tablet, or computer—both writing and reading.
She resides in the Midwest United States with her husband and four rambunctious children. Her days are filled with driving kids to school, activities, and sports; frequently squeezing writing time in while waiting in the carpool line.
Koslo’s characters are often developed while running on the treadmill at the gym, and she has a DVR full of Hallmark movies.
Her debut novel, Foreplay on Words, combines her love of steamy romance, awkward but loveable leading males, and headstrong heroines with a dash of humor and a little bit of kink.

‼️ While this book can be read as a standalone, this is book 2 of the Masked Men of Sage Springs series
ℙ𝕆𝕍: first person, dual perspectives
𝕄𝕪 𝕋𝕙𝕠𝕦𝕘𝕙𝕥𝕤: Just in time for the next upcoming holiday, E.L. has brought to life a Valentine's Day novel with the fabulous trope of brother's best friend. We meet Reid and Hazel in book 1, and we got the tease of a lifetime at the end of the book, with a link for the first 2 chapters of this book.🤭
Hazel would be my soul sister in real life. Everything about her is 100% relatable. Her neurotic thoughts made me laugh because, SAME GIRL! I felt her on a different level. 🤣🤌
Reid was everything and more! This man is ready to put his playboy ways to rest and settle down. Hazel, his best friend's little sister, being the one to catch his attention. He'll do anything to catch his girl, even entering a speed dating event Hazel's in.👀
When Hazel becomes stumped with the more illicit side of her illustration business, she reaches out to Reid for help. The two experiment together in the best of ways!🥵
E.L. your books continue to bring me joy. I'm so blessed to be a part of your community, and I'll forever be your hype women! Thank you for trusting me with an early ARC. ILY!❤️
I absolutely adored the main girl in this story. From the first chapter she got a place in my heart. Some of her personality traits were very relatable to me, like the ADHD struggles and her artistic side, so I liked reading about her and how she dealt with stuff.
The plot itself was also very fun and enjoyable. There were plenty of moments that kept me hooked and looking forward to what would happen in the next chapter. Just like the other books I’ve read (or am currently reading) by E.L. Koslo, the writing style was great. I appreciated that the pacing never feels too drawn out, or too rushed.
I had the chance to read this book as an ARC, but my thoughts are completely honest and voluntary. This book is definitely one I would recommend, whether you're new to E.L. Koslo's work (although you might want to read book 1 first) or already a fan. I had such a wonderful time reading it and am confident it’s a story I’ll revisit in the future. I’ll absolutely be purchasing a copy for my (digital) shelves, like I did with the first book, and I can't wait to see what's to come in the future because I would definitely love to see more books added to this series!

Overall, this was a very entertaining Valentine’s Day–themed story. After finishing Accidental Abduction, I was really excited to read Hazel and Reid’s story since their chemistry was obvious from a mile away.
What didn’t quite work for me, though, was how the MMC was constantly slut-shamed by pretty much everyone at one point or another. Meanwhile, Hazel was infantilized by everyone, even though she’s in her mid-20s — and up until about the 80% mark, she still leaned into that persona and kept herself closed off. For me, it lacked a bit of emotional growth and genuine connection between the two main characters.
This was a good follow-up to book one, (Hudson and Charley's story) and I was really excited to dig into Hazel and Reid's storyline. The long-running crush that Hazel harbored for her brother’s best friend was aggravated by his playboy ways, and I appreciated how the two of them found their way to a HEA.
This was easy to read and connect with, and the spicy, sizzling chemistry between them is very entertaining. I recommend reading this book in the correct reading order for the best experience, and I can’t wait to get into the next book in this series.
I loved the originality of this plot. Learning about how book illustrators get their inspirations will make me think twice and probably blush, when seeing book covers and book art.
Loved the blind speed dating aspect. And who doesn't swoon over the shy inexperienced girl bringing the playboy to his knees!
Wow. Just wow. So much chemistry and fantastic banter between these two with some great heat. After reading Accidental Abduction, I was so excited to read Hazel and Reid's story and I am so happy with how it turned out. Also loved that her ADHD is embraced and not glossed over.
This is what I wanted this book to be and more. Love the characters banter and growth through the book. I already knew I wanted a Hazel and Reid book when Accidental Abduction came out but this was better than I thought. Can’t wait for the next book
ARC READ I’m HUGE sucker for the motorcycle riding, tattoo artist former man wh*re. Reid is a perfect example of this. I do think he might me my fave of EL’s men. Hazel reminds me of me. With the hyper fixation the overthinking , rambling. The motorcycle scene is 🔥🥵.
Another new author to me, thanks to my friends on here, I picked up this book and devoured it in HOURS! Illicit Illustration by E.L. Koslo is book 2 in the Masked Men of Sage Springs series. IF you love a hot, tattooed, motorcycle riding, dirty mouth golden retriever, brother's best friend, add in some masked spice and texts, this book had it all! I am telling you this book had a great story AND freaking HOTTTTT spice!
Hazel and Reid have been friends since they were young. She has always had a crush on him, he has recently truly started noticing her as more than just a friend. HE is the gorgeous, tattooed, dirty mouth, golden retriever and her brother’s best friend. Did I mention he’s p*erced?! She is the sweetest, but always one to be more alone. She feels awkward and says what she thinks, not always at the right time. Her confidence is not the best. But she is an amazing illustrator who recently began doing jobs for romance books. These two end up growing a relationship. Enter a masked secret speed dating night at the local bar where he knows who she is, she doesn't and her needing “help” with her illustrations. This girl is innocent in many ways, but deep down has so many dirty desires waiting to be brought out by the perfect man and he so is! I am telling you, these scenes, HOTTTTTTTTT, like you need to set the Kindle down cause it burns. The chemistry and burn between these two is PERFECT!!
I loved all the side characters, their love for Hazel and just wanting the best for her!
You know why I loved this book, because for once, the story was perfect PLUS the spice was FIRE! IT had it all. I loved watching Hazel grow an amazing confidence and esteem to stand up for what she truly deserves! Go read this book, it's so worth it!

❤️ Brother’s Best Friend 🔥 Mutual pining ❤️ Friends to lovers 🔥 He’s a tattoo artist ❤️ She’s an illustrator 🔥 Spicy texting ❤️ Set around Valentine’s Day
I knew from the blurbs, teasers and meeting Reid and Hazel in the first book, Accidental Abduction, that I was going to love this book. I mean who doesn't love the tattooed bad boy who rides a motorcycle. Oh and on top of it, he is your brother's best friend and much older. Illicit Illustration gives us Reid, the tattoo parlor owner next door who seems to live at your brother's bar. Then there's Hazel, the innocent, talented digital illustrator, who by the way does it secretly. Reid has been her biggest crush for a long time but she never let anyone know. What she doesn't know is she's been on Reid's mind as well. A blind dating night at her brother's bar and things change for both Hazel and Reid. She doesn't know Reid was one of the contestants. This added just that amount of intrigue and suspense to the story. The mystery man she met has intrigued her. When her secret job comes out, Reid volunteers to help her out with the sexy scenes, since she is not experienced with certain positions. If the man that you have been pining over offers to show you his body, why wouldn't you jump on the chance. Now she is torn between the mystery man who she has never met and the man right in front of her that has been in her heart and on her mind forever. Well, one thing led to another and the scenes they were working on set the pages of the book on fire. Throughout the book, Reid and Hazel had my full attention. He was sweet but also a dirty talker who helped Hazel come out of her shell and had her feeling better about herself and more confident. When they say "You can't judge a book by its cover", they are talking about Reid. He was not what I was expecting and had my falling for him right away. I highly recommend picking up Illicit Illustration and get lost in the romance of Reid and Hazel.
I’m not a fan of the virgin and the whore trope (for lack of a better word). I find it to be super frustrating and I think it leads to all kinds of other things that I also don’t like such as seeing the guy with all kinds of other women before the heroine, the heroine knowing about all of the sexcapades of the guy in detail, the heroine pining away for some guy while he doesn’t even know she exists, and the heroine having thoughts about how inadequate/inexperienced/unattractive she is compared to his past conquests.
Hazel has been in love with Reid, her brother’s best friend, since she was a child. Now she is an adult and she feels like she has to move on. However, Reid has now developed feelings for her but he doesn’t know how to get her to look at him again. This is a blind speed dating, spicy drawing romance. I feel I can’t elaborate further.
I did enjoy this book. There were some of the aspects of the trope that I spoke about that were present in this book but they definitely weren’t overwhelming so I was happy for that.
I did enjoy Hazel as a character once she really found herself. She was frustratingly self-conscious and unconfident but it wasn’t at the forefront of the story luckily. I did like that she wasn’t willing to put up with bullshit.
I did really like Reid. I didn’t need him to bring up his past hookups so much. The author also really made it sounds sleazy which was disappointing. You can be a playboy with lots of hookups/one night stands without it seeming like you can’t control yourself. Outside of that, I did really like him as a character. He definitely completely changed his attitude on love and relationships once he finally saw Hazel.
I could read this book again. It wasn’t as good as the first one and definitely didn’t have the same vibes.
A friend of mine recommended me to read Accidental Abduction and I absolutely fell in love with the story of Hudson and Charley. So when I discovered that I could sign up for Book 2 of the Masked Men of Sage Springs series as an ARC Reader, I just knew I needed to take that chance.
First off I like how you don’t have to read Book 1 to understand this book. Although there are references to Accidental Abduction, situations are explained so that there aren’t any plotholes if you haven’t read it (although I really suggest you do)
Writing style was very easy to read no hard words (didn’t need to bring out my dictionary) Koslo really knows how to write relatable human characters. Like how Hazel has ADHD and it shows in how she handles herself and other situations. I could really relate to Hazel because of all her quirks like rambling, hyper focussing and working really well under the pressure of a deadline. What I love about Reid is that he looks like a badboy (piercings, tattoos and all) but secretly he is very sweet and understanding, like with Hazels ADHD brain, and how he is always trying to help her especially with her spicy illustrations.
Sparks fly between Reid and Hazel during spicy scenes, despite the no touching. There is a very obvious chemistry between the two, even though they are both too oblivious to see that. Which in turn creates a lot of drama but who doesn’t love a little drama, I certainly do.
This book was filled with relatable characters, romantic drama, spicy scenes and is amazingly written. I really recommend this book (and book 1 off course) you will not regret it.
Illicit Illustrations by E.L. Koslo is an absolutely captivating read that blends humor, passion, and emotional depth. The dual perspective of the story offers a perfect balance, as readers experience the evolving feelings of both Hazel and Reid. Their chemistry is undeniable, and the writing is engaging, drawing you in from the very first page. The characters are well-developed, with relatable motivations and vulnerabilities that make them easy to root for. Hazel's journey of self-discovery and her intense connection with Reid make this book impossible to put down.
The plot is intriguing, with the blind dating experiment offering a unique and fresh twist on the brothers best friend trope. Hazel's evolving feelings for Reid and the tension that builds between them kept me hooked throughout. What makes this book truly special is the rich character development; both Hazel and Reid experience personal growth, adding layers of complexity to their relationship. The writing style is beautiful, capturing the nuances of both their emotional and physical connections with precision. I loved this book so much and couldn't recommend it enough to fans of steamy, heartfelt romance!
Reid and Hazel’s journey to their happily ever after is not an easy one, but their love shines bright and proves that the hard things are worth going the distance!
❤️Brother’s best friend ❤️Cocky and experienced MMC ❤️Virgin FMC ❤️Blind dating experience
When Hazel’s best friend is pushing her to do her blind speed dating event, she doesn’t expect anything to come of it. But when she matches with someone who she had an instant connection with, she knows that she needs to make a decision whether to pursue him or not.
The problem is, Hazel is in love with her brother’s best friend, who is seemingly the unattainable bachelor playboy.
But when said playboy is showing a different side to himself, Hazel is stuck deciding which route she wants to go for in her love life.
I loved all of the no touching sexy times between these two - without even any actual physical touching, their connection and attraction is completely off the charts! It was such a unique way to finding their HEA, but I loved it!
I loved seeing Charley and Hudson in their life “after the HEA”.
I absolutely adore the Masked Men of Sage Springs series—I just can’t get enough of those cinnamon-roll MMCs! But let me introduce you to Book 2: Illicit Illustration:
In this captivating book, we follow the story of Hazel, a shy and inexperienced spicy book illustrator, and Reid, a former playboy biker adorned with tattoos and piercings. Reid isn’t just her big brother’s best friend—he’s also notorious for his wild 🌶️ escapades and happens to be a bit older than our FMC.
The chemistry between these two characters practically leaps off the page. The tension grows more intense with every chapter, and the push-and-pull dynamic will have you hooked. E.L. Koslo masterfully balances sizzling romance, palpable suspense, and a dash of humor, creating a story you simply can’t put down. I’m absolutely in love with Illicit Illustration and counting down the days until Book 3!
Tropes you’ll love:
Pierced, tattooed biker MMC Virgin FMC Big brother’s best friend / Best friend’s sister Valentine’s Day romance Dual POV
I had a smile on my face the entire time I read this book.
The evolution of the main female character had me cheering for her at every turn. It was easy to connect with Hazel’s character and fall in love with her quirkiness. The author was able to work the line between innocence and sexiness flawlessly. Despite her inexperience, Reid helps her explore her sensual side without making her feel as though it would hinder their relationship.
Reading about Reid in Accidental Abduction, I was curious about how his character would play out in this book. Let me tell you, I was not disappointed! He was flirty and caring. I loved how he didn’t make Hazel feel like she had to be anyone else than herself. Reigniting a friendship with hope for more, Hazel becomes someone that Reid could be completely honest with.
Hands down, this book is a perfect start to a sexy year. I have been a longtime reader of E. L. Koslo and love each book this author has put out. Another must read that I couldn’t put down.
Hazel and Reid have been friends since his high school days as Reid is her older brother's best friend. Both Hazel and Reid used to sketch together. She was in college doing not safe for work art on the side, and Reid was a tattoo artist who helped manage Hudson's bar along with his tattoo studio. Hazel enters a blind dating event that Reid is coerced into without Hazel's knowledge. Hazel then enlisted Reid to help with poses and drawings for her side hustle. As both the blind date texter and in person, Reid is breaking Hazel out of her shell. I can honestly say this story will live rent-free in my head when he helps with posing and sketching lessons. I mean a virgin who is sketching illicit scenes for NSFW art, you bet!
I'm happy these two get their HEA even if everyone around them sees them dancing around it. What a pair! If only they had started sooner 😉 instead of avoidance.
This book was everything I wanted in a brother’s bestfriend romance. It was flirty, heartfelt, and full of chemistry. It was the perfect blend of humor, spice, and emotion.
Hazel was instantly relatable. She was quirky, artistic, and delightfully chaotic. Her ADHD thoughts and creative energy made her feel so real, and I found myself laughing at her inner thoughts because, honestly, same, girl. Reid was the ultimate hero. He was charming, loyal, and filthy mouthed. Seeing him go from playful flirt to completely lovesick for Hazel was perfect.
You really get to feel both sides of their emotional journey, from the secret texting experiment to their undeniable real life chemistry. The writing style is smooth, funny, and heartfelt without ever dragging. The pacing was spot on, and every chapter had something that made me smile (or blush).
I also loved the nod to Evan and Chase from "Foreplay on Words." I was like...hey, I know those characters!
This is book 2 in a series, but entirely standalone. However, I also highly recommend book 1 - Accidental Abduction.
In this story you get Hazel and Reid, her brother's best friend. They are both secretly crushing on each other but unwilling to act on their feelings, so a blind dating event near Valentine's Day at her brother's bar is the opportunity they both need. She doesn't realize the guy she likes from the event is the same guy she runs from when they are in the same room.
She's inexperienced but does manage to ask Reid to be her model for some spicy illustrations she working on as she has no first hand knowledge of some intimate scenes.
The book is a quick and easy read - and the characters are written so true to life.
I’m the type of reader who can read any seasonal theme book at any time of year. A Christmas book when it’s summer? Sure, why not? A Halloween book when it’s Easter? No problem. I can do that. E.L. Koslo’s Illicit Illustration takes place during Valentine's Day, and it’s just about the end of Spring for me, and I’m okay with that. I wanted more after being introduced to Reid and Hazel in Book 1 of the Masked Men of Saged Springs Series.
I loved Hazel’s character, with its awkwardness and anxiety. The spicy buildup to Hazel and Reid's relationship was significant, as were the details that went into the scenes. I loved the text dialogue and all the banter. Illicit Illustration was fun and spicy.
A fun book for the holidays/valentinesday. Reid and Hazel have been friends from many years. Her brother is Reid‘s best friend. After a situation which made Hazel, uncomfortable, her and Reid went separate ways. After many years of not seeing or talking to each other, they stumble back into each other‘s lives. Both of them are persuaded to be part of a dating event in which you can’t see the other person. Reid decides to enter in knowing that Hazel would be there.
On the side, Hazel is an artist and starting to take side projects for designing NSFW pictures for romance, authors as a commission. Being a virgin, she struggles to visualize certain ideas enlists Reid for help.
Will their lines cross and turn into more or will it hurt them in the long run?
The second in the interconnected series of The Masked Men Of Sage Springs brings us Reid and Hazel. While participating in a blind speed dating for a Valentine's Day event Hazel meets someone who may finally take her v card. Someone who finally helps take her mind (somewhat) off of her brother's best friend. But all isn't as it seems and while Reid helps Hazel with her latest (sexy) work projects he also isn't being completely truthful with her. This book is so sexy in a way you wouldn't necessarily expect. The anticipation, the build up with have you sweating. The quirkyness of Hazel and Reids steadfast-ness will have you falling in love with the characters!
Very rarely is a sequel better than the original, but oh lordy, the second book in the series was 10/10 *chef's kiss*.
Maybe I just vibed better with the characters, but this is going to be one of my favourite reads of 2025. The tension, the spice, the build up - it was all done perfectly. Also, who doesn't wish they had an older brother with hot best friend who was a tattoo artist.....
Seriously the sexual tension between Hazel and Reid was perfect - and it dragged out the perfect amount - not too long but long enough that you weren't like that was quick.
10/10 no more comments, just download this masterpiece. You should probably read book 1, as it won't make sense without it. But I loved this read.

This book is packed with: 💬 Witty banter 👀 Secret pining 🖌️ Romantic sketches (yes, there’s art!) 💞 Deep emotional growth 🌶️ And spice, of course
If you love forbidden love with heart and heat, this one’s for you!
E.L. Koslo is still a newish author to me but I know when I open up one of her books, I am in for a one amazing story.
Book 2 gives us Hazel and Reid. These two have so much spark and their chemistry is off the chart! Both of them secretly crushing on one another but neither wanting to attempt fate. Reid decides a blind date opportunity would be perfect to see if things could have a positive outcome. Hazel has no idea who the guy is she has been communicating with but she wants to find out.
Oh. My. God. The way I was screeching like a banshee from the first page to the last was actually insane. To say I was acting feral would be an understatement. I was pacing the floors, scratching the walls, gnawing at the bars of my enclosure for this book. For real.
The mutual pining? The texts? The “just to be helpful” posing sessions? I was a GONER, yall. I was exactly as down bad for this couple as Reid was for Hazel. We were both in the trenches. It was SO good.
This story is the perfect embodiment of- to quote the great Brittany Broski- “And then you get this picture, and then I take her back to my penthouse and I freak it.” 5 stars. No notes.
The author shared an arc with me in exchange for my honest review. My gratitude to EL Koslo for sharing these characters (and their absolutely feral love for each other) with me!
Im a sucker for a best friend’s young sister romance, throw in a plenty of angst and boy, you are on a ride. Hazel and Reid have a bit of a past together, it’s not until after some time that they both realize they have plenty of feelings for each other. Charley steps in the best way she knows how. The author keeps you on the edge of your seat the entire book. When the two main characters finally have their big moment together, it makes your toes curl. The different personalities Reid has to go through with this book is super hot. Reid helping her with her side business will have your toes curling with the attention to detail that the author wrote for those scenes. All in all, men can learn a thing are two from Reid about dirty innuendos.
Dedication This one is for all the neurospicy girlies who were told their entire lives to keep the "inappropriate" intrusive thoughts on the inside. F that shit. Life's more fun when you grab it with both hands… Like Hazel is about to do to her brother's *pierced* best friend before she rides him off into the sunset. You are perfect exactly as you are. Your neurodivergence does not define you. You are a beautiful soul who just happens to experience life in a way unlike any other.
Reid 🫦🥵❤️ This book had me squealing, in a fit of giggles then fanning myself due to the spicy smexy heat.
This is what I would consider a slow burn and an example of sweet and spicy. After being given a swift kick in the ass by a well meaning BFF, the MMC, Reid, has finally decided to go for it and nothing is getting in his way. The well meaning best friend has persuaded her inexperienced BFF to participate in her Valentine’s speed dating pilot. Little does she know, she will find a surprise in being lucky number 7!
