About the author

Kahlil Gibran (Arabic: جبران خليل جبران ) was a Lebanese-American artist, poet, and writer.
Born in the town of Bsharri in modern-day Lebanon (then part of Ottoman Mount Lebanon), as a young man he emigrated with his family to the United States where he studied art and began his literary career. In the Arab world, Gibran is regarded as a literary and political rebel. His romantic style was at the heart of a renaissance in modern Arabic literature, especially prose poetry, breaking away from the classical school. In Lebanon, he is still celebrated as a literary hero.
He is chiefly known in the English-speaking world for his 1923 book The Prophet, an early example of inspirational fiction including a series of philosophical essays written in poetic English prose. The book sold well despite a cool critical reception, gaining popularity in the 1930s and again, especially in the 1960s counterculture.
Gibran is the third best-selling poet of all time, behind Shakespeare and Lao-Tzu.

Ein wunderschönes Buch.
Obwohl die Kapitel nicht länger als drei Seiten oder manchmal sogar nur eine halbe Seite lang sind, hat jedes einzelne von Ihnen mich zum Nachdenken gebracht.

Boring as fuxk. I didn’t learn anything. The whole book had maybe three interesting stories, the rest was trash. The author tried so hard to sound philosophical and smart, but my 11 year old cousin could write stories more compelling.

Gibran's fame rests upon THE PROPHET; it is therefore refreshing to have exerpts from other works (THE MADMAN and THE WANDERER) at hand. His poetic style may not be to everyone's taste: where some find deep wisdom in his writings, others dismiss it as airy-fairy babbling. I love the allusiveness, the rich imagery and associations.

Sy ryk beeldspraak spreek tot my, hoewl nie almal van sy idees hou nie. Sommige sienings, soos dié oor koop en verkoop in DIE PROFEET, bly steeds relevant vir vandag se verbruikersamelewing.

Hmmm, this type of philosophical religious writing is just not for me. I don't enjoy the symbolism, the allusion and the piety.
However I understand that others find this writing amazing and life changing. I really only read this small book because it is a Penguin 60, and I have it in my shelf as a part of at series.
On this basis, like other books that aren't in my genres of interest, I won't put a star rating on.

The prophet started out great but after a while honestly got tedious to read. Instead of inspiring admiration for the prophet, it displayed the character as subtly vain, too proud of gathering the knowledge that he has gained. Some of his other works were quite plain too. The metaphors would be beautiful if they didnt seem so forced; occurring in ever line or two.

Creo firmemente que Khalil Gibrán poseía una capacidad de análisis y una sensibilidad enorme. Todo esto es posible verlo a través de estos relatos. Ya sea que estés de acuerdo con él o no, en innegable que tenía una manera de ver el mundo, a la cual poca gente puede acercarse por sí misma.

viel zu schön geschrieben, man kann einfach drin versinken. hab den inhalt schon wieder vergessen, aber die essenz ist auch eher die erzählweise und das gefühl, was es beim lesen ausmacht. obwohl es mich an vielen stelleb auch zum nachdenken gebracht hat.

Penguin books has published this pamphlet. An abridged version, which means the tree has to be cut down to fit the sense of crippled men. Kahlil Gibran's books are one of the beauties of our planet. But if you ask me whether to read this book(pamphlet) or not, I will say read The Prophet, read The Madman, read The Wanderer, not this pamphlet which is not complete at least.

I read Finnish edition of "The Wanderer"(1976). (There was no Prophet or Madman). Capturing little stories, which gave plenty to think of.
