There was Damien, who claimed the unattainable Hèléne as his wife and took a nun as his mistress. There was Natalie, who escaped the horrors of Paris’s La Salpétrière prison to flee to the colony of New Orleans as a proxy bride selected by the handsome, mysterious half breed . . . There was Nicolas, whose dark secret shadowed the only love he had ever known ~ for his half-brother’s wife . . . There was Reinette, Natalie’s daughter, raised wild in the bayous outside New Orleans, who gave her heart to an outcast and her body to her handsome captor . . . and there was Daniel, Reinette’s son, who thirsted for vengeance and took his enemy’s daughter as hostage.

I am dancing on sunshine that you are visiting my little part of Parris's paradise here on Goodreads.

I write for the reckless at heart Not surprisingly, I identify with my novels' characters, both the protagonists AND antagonists. I suffer with their angsts and bewilderments and rejoice in their joys and triumphs.

And I believe that if we heroically hold fast to our own vision for ourselves in our journey’s confrontations and challenges, Life WILL surely manifest our dreams and goals and visions, as it does for my characters in my novels.

Wow!

I have just finished reading this book, and Im speechless! What a great story!
This makes the old adage "what comes around goes around" seem an enlightened truth! Such memorable characters...suffering...strength...live! I am a true fan of Bonds' writing! This two-book series will be hard to top!
Every single character is written so well and fully described from the inside out. I had tears in my eyes, and felt the gut wrenching torture of each soul as if I were present. That is good writing. And to be able to tie it into the historic events of the times makes it more real.
I definitely highly recommend this book..this series. It try is a fine piece of work.

What a good book!!!

I haven't read a book like this in a long time. The character's and personalities were intense to keep you reading to what was coming next, and everyone was dyeing off!! But you always new what happened to them. A great book.

Revenge will consume you.

I Liked this book very much. With a varied cast of characters, the author depicts Louisiana in its early days. It is sad, brutal, amusing and hopeful. I recommend this to readers that like history and the human spirit.
