I was hooked from the first sentence. It grips you and will not let you go until the end, then it leaves you wanting more.
If you love dystopian/apocalyptic books then this is the one for you.
You will also find some quite spicy scenes and graphic cannibalism scenes, but it just adds to how amazing this book is.
I definitely recommend it.

HERE LIES: Cannibal Brothers (paperback)
FROM CHAPTER 1- chapter 5
CAUSE OF DEATH: NO FLOW. JUVENILE WRITING.
Thoughts:
I thought this was self published, it's got only one review and no real audience. I actually found the author on tiktok promoting this book ages ago when I bought it. It sounds really good and I thought it would be fun change of pace between books.
When I seen that this has no reviews or audience I thought I'd be helpful in leaving an honest (hopefully great) review to share.
ON THAT NOTE: it could just be unfortunate that this is the book to follow a five star read duology, and so the writing level may be too noticeable where maybe if I picked it up after a 3 star read it wouldn't be so.... Blegh. (Yes I'm using that as a descriptive and no I won't apologise.)
First thing I notice is there's a lot of.... "He did this and she did that and he did this and she did that"
There's no.... Depth or pacing... It's like... Reading a step by step of the characters actions one after another....and Frankly it didn't allow me to immerse in the story at all.
In the first 2 pages alone Lucy's name is mentioned about 15- 20 times. Because rather than say something like 'lucy walked down the street ...saw someone being mauled by a man but she didn't care she was just grateful it wasn't her.'
It's written as 'lucy walked down the street...saw someone being mauled by a man but Lucy didn't care Lucy was grateful it wasn't her..'
The first page it's just her there's no need for the tags constantly.
The second it's just her and her friend but jeez I think we know her name is Lucy. 😤 (This alone already set me off to a bad start.)
I thought perhaps it was just a stiffness of first chapter awkwardness, some books have but develop better as the story continues.... but this way of writing with a step by step with no emotion in it persisted.
I got to chapter 5...(Page 59) Admittedly not very far....And hopped a bit more ahead into the book wondering if it changes at any point but even at chapter 12 (page141) it's not improving by the looks of it.
Here is a small segment as an example to what I've mostly read looks like, this is at chapter 12:
Captain Sherlock walked in "hello soldier what you got there?"
"You do know you can f. Off calling me soldier you're not my superior."
The captain started to walk strangely towards max. The captain was fixed on something "don't be like that" the captain replied. He reached for the crisps...
There's some detailed moments of gore that are written fairly well. But outside of that it seems there's just something missing. The writing style for me just comes across too juvenile.
I won't leave an official rating as I didn't read more than half the book.
But from what I read I'd give this a 1 ⭐
The idea has potential. But it reads very much like a first draft. (The structure is there but the muscle and meat is missing.)
Having just checked the publishing house: Pegasus independent publishing... Id like to suggest to the author to get an editor who knows what they are doing. I've seen many indie writers bitten by this company and it's promises before.
