It's hard to avoid your ex, or any lingering feelings, when you live in a small town like Sweet River.
Sophia Rogers moves back to town the day before Christmas, after eight years away. And, of course, runs into her childhood sweetheart, Jordan Silk, minutes after her suitcase hits the pavement. And again, on New Years Eve. And again, when they both find themselves at their favorite old spots. And again, and again.
Over the year that follows, Sophia starts to realize, it's not that life keeps throwing them back together-- it's that she never wants it to pull them apart again. Getting a second chance with your first love is rare as snow in December in their small town in Texas, but that doesn't stop Sophia's heart from hoping, it doesn’t seem to stop Jordan from reaching back for her either.

I absolutely loved this Novella and ate it up. I swear Rebecca should’ve been scooped up by Hallmark, cause you can literally SEE the movie playing out in your head while you’re reading her writing.
I love a good second chance romance, best friends to lovers to strangers to friends then back to lovers. I loved the flashbacks to their teen years/childhood.
I’ve also never resonated with a character more than Sophie. Growing up and dealing with a parents divorce and then needing to get away from your hometown to figure out yourself.
Jordan Silk is the PERFECT man and I accept zero criticism. Such a golden retriever and like where can I find my own?

One Little Chance takes place in the same small town of Sweet River as the series of that name, but can absolutely be enjoyed just fine as a standalone.
This was such a sweet story filled with second chances, small town vibes and all the Christmas cheer. If you love Hallmark-like Christmas stories, chances are this will be right up your alley too. I love second chance romances, and this one was done very well... it was never that they weren't right for each other, but they needed the time apart to make mistakes, grow and learn what they truly wanted in life... and when they find their way back to one another? So worth the wait. The story alternates between two timelines, just a year apart. Admittedly, this took me a little bit to get used to and I wasn't sure about it at first... but I think it really was such a perfect way to tell this story. As the story goes on and the gap between those timelines grows smaller, I found myself even more intrigued to figure out how they were going to get from point A to point B in that time between. (I can't say too much more without spoilers, but it'll make sense once you read it!) If you're looking for a quick Christmas read with lots of heart, this is absolutely one not to be missed.
One Little Chance is a closed-door romance with kisses only and no language.
**ARC received for consideration. All opinions are my own.
This was such an adorable Christmas story! It was just so sweet and simple. I loved that this was just two people realizing they were in love and making a fresh relationship work. It gives hallmark movie vibes and was absolutely wonderful. I loved the timeline hopping so we could get memories from their first time falling in love and also getting to see where we were heading in the end. This is a clean (just kissing) second chance romance that I would recommend to anybody, and I will definitely be reading this again during Christmas time. Thank you so much for the ARC :)
"You know what I've learned? At first, memories feel like poison. But sometimes, they can actually be a balm. They can heal the hurt, soften the pain,"
Read that on the eve of my dad's birthday, his first bday not here with us 😔 argh that line is incredible 👏
⭐️3 This was a sweet novella! Jordan and Sophie were cute together and I liked seeing how they reconnected 🩷 They’re memories were so sweet and I really enjoyed reading the flashbacks/ memories of their childhood together 🥹 Jordan’s family was also so sweet, accepting, and loving to Sophie 🥰 But I felt as though the story was a little too dragged out for my liking🫣

I drove home sobbing with the icy realization that the person I wanted to call right then to comfort me was Jordan. The person I wanted to hold me until I stopped crying was Jordan. The person who knew me well enough to love me through this was Jordan. Id cut ties with my boyfriend and the best friend Id ever had in one fell swoop.

It was good to be back in small town Texas, especially for Christmas!
Join Sophie & Jordan in this cute, second chance romance! There were so many heartfelt moments helpfully interspersed with flashbacks to a younger Sophie & Jordan.
Since this was a novella, I did find myself wishing we’d gotten a little more time to see Sophie & Jordan have some hard conversations or even Jordan’s perspective on their issues. But that’s minor. ☺️
A short and sweet holiday read with all the cosy cheer!
*Thank you to the author for the complimentary copy of this book. I was not required to write a positive review. These are my honest thoughts and opinions.
Omg this book is like a warm hug! Sweet River is definitely one of those fictional towns where I aspire to live, much like Stars Hollow. Getting to return to this town for a holiday novella was bittersweet only because I didn’t want it to end!
I adored Sophia and Jordan’s sweet story and I laughed, cried, and smiled so hard my face hurts. One Little Chance is a beautiful story of love, family, returning home, and the magic of second chances.
Thank you to dear Rebecca Jo Jackson for the ARC of this book.
This was such a cute novella, a perfect companion to Jackson’s longer Sweet River novels. I loved being able to live out Jordan and Sophie’s love story through the pages. One of Jackson’s best qualities as a writer is infusing humour amid the heart into her books. In One Little Chance this was evident from the opening pages (caroling & wet bottom awkwardness, anyone?!) 😆
The jump in timelines took a little getting used to but as the story evolved all the pieces fell into place. If I had one criticism it might be the novel read a little “young” for me. That being said, I think it could easily be enjoyed by readers young and old & I’d even recommend it to some of my students!
You’re sure to enjoy this novella if you like: -Christmas -second chance romance -high school sweethearts -kisses under the mistletoe -small town life -“a year in the life” style -flashbacks/memories -truck chats
The secondary characters are also fairly well-rounded and enjoyable (and although this novella is a standalone, if you’ve read any other Sweet River books you’ll be happy about a few character appearances). Solid 4.5 read for the holiday season!
Notable quotes: “Christmas morning tasted like hot coffee with cinnamon sprinkled atop…” “…because to me he was a knight in shiny sneakers — and antlers.” “Lines could be blurry.” “I wish I could have all of your Saturdays.”
4.5!!🎄🎄🎄🎄🌲Soooo cute! A kiss of a hallmark movie! Like standing in the brisk cold after it snows and the air smells cold and fresh.
Kissing under mistletoe? 🎅🏻 Highschool sweethearts? 🎅🏻 Hot chocolate dates? 🎅🏻 Family traditions? 🎅🏻 Cute memories of their relationship growing up? 🎅🏻 Taking care of her when she is sick? 🎅🏻
I loved the pacing of this book!! Thank you for this arc!! 🎄
Update! It is January and I still think about this book often!! I loved the truck chats, the morning runs, the coffee. I loved that reading about highschool sweethearts (as one myself)
Rebecca Jo Jackson does it again. Oh my goodness this author can write the book couples of your freaking dreams! I didn’t think it could get better than Emma and Gabe, she came pretty dang close with Lucy and Adam, though I think the OGs still had my heart, but Sophie and Jordan! Holy cow!! Why did this have to be a novella!?! I mean, it was perfection, there was so much packed into this short and sweet read, but I want more! Most novellas I have read kind of leave me wondering what happened, but this one was not that way. Thought I want more, it isn’t needed in the way of the story not being enough. I’m just greedy and didn’t want it to end! If I wouldn’t have started this so close to bed I would have read it all in one sitting. I didn’t want to put it down and fell asleep with all the cozy Sweet River small town vibes dancing in my head.
Sophia Rogers has returned home to Sweet River after leaving for years to separate herself from her parents divorce and take some time to herself to heal. She very quickly runs into her childhood best friend and ex boyfriend, Jordan Silk. Enter all the swoony moments here. I absolutely loved all of the flashback memories that truly built the foundation of their relationship and show exactly why they are so perfect for each other. It had me wishing so hard that I would have known my husband sooner, but also reminded me of us at 14 and 15 years old. So much sweet, innocent, new love goodness that made you feel so connected to them and their relationship.
Jordan is absolute book boyfriend goals and his love for Sophie and the way he shows her love was so cute. There were so many scenes that had me grinning to myself like a goober, or literally bawling over how sweet he is. The way he remembers and tells another guy her exact coffee order, and his grand gesture that I won’t talk about because I can’t spoil this book for you. GAH!!!! Seriously perfection. Sophie and Jordan are PERFECTION. They remind me of my husband and I when we were younger. So sweet, so perfect for each other with the beautiful foundation of being childhood best friends. Ugh. I can’t even do justice to describing how they are literally made for each other. I seriously wish this would have been a full blown, 400 page book.
I can’t wait to see what Rebecca has next. I am going to be in a slump until her next book releases as it is all I can think about and all I want to read. I may just go back and read the rest of the Sweet River series again.
Go right now and get this book. Preorder it so you can get that happy little surprise on release day and have the PERFECT holiday, sit by the fire with a cup of hot chocolate read. You don’t want to miss this one. Now excuse me while I go reread all of my RJJ books and cry happy tears.
Thank you Rebecca for the opportunity to read and review this advanced copy. Girl… you rock. Your talent is insane and I need you to hurry up on your WIP. I need it like… yesterday.
My second book by Rebecca and I loved it!! I get to meet Lucy and her sweet friends.
Oh man, it is a lovely novella but here are some tighter warnings (for my sensitive, neurodivergent friends).
Divorce, mentions of controlling ex husband, fires, death of a loved one, and anxiety attacks. Best lines: “There were Christmas lights laced through the memories and a Christmas tree aglow and decorated in the corner of the room. I walked slowly through the walls of memories around me, my hands grazing the shiny photos or crumbled paper. My mind was spinning. My heart was reeling. “That,” Jordan pointed to an old, yellowing note, “was from before we were together and Andy Dodson was planning to ask you out after school. Do you remember I passed you that note asking you to stay after class and help me with a project? I was terrified of losing you.” I remembered that day, his young, nervous energy. “I had good sense even then.”
“I love our past. What we had. Our foundation,” he said, gesturing toward the walls behind us. “But, Sophie, I’m even more in love with what we have right now. I’m excited about the two of us tomorrow, and the next day, and the day after that. I want more of this.” He pointed to the wall in front of us with the photos from this year. “Forever.”
“I’d made so many choices in my past out of fear, but now, I was ready to make one out of hope.”
4.5⭐️ Let me start with saying the 2nd chance romance trope is NOT my trope of choice, once I realized that’s the direction One Little Chance was going in, I had to take a step back and forget my reasons why I don’t like the trope. I am so glad that I did because @authorrebeccajojackson knows how to make me believe in 2nd chance romance again! This book was definitely a warm hug and will be the perfect little Christmas novella to add to your holiday TBR! • The way these two characters found their way back to each other after 8 years was beautiful! Especially once they both realized that their love is stronger since they went through that 8 year separation and all the obstacles that came with it. • One of my favorite parts was when Sophia was making the pies and had a moment, Jordan was the sweetest when he walked in and she was crying on the phone with her mom 🫶 • A note from a reader who obsessively try’s to place timelines with in books/movies because why not read/watch in order? It took me a second to grasp where this book fit into the Sweet River timeline, because previous characters were mentioned but not as part of their same storyline? (Which confused me) until I reached the 60% mark and it clicked that this novella, takes place before It Couldn’t be You, which was then followed by Lucy Loves Him Not…
I could not put this one down! This is how second chances should be written! I loved every minute of this well written love story. I loved going back and forth in time to go deeper into their history and love for each other that started when they were kids. The way Jordan respected her and thought of her feelings and well-being above his own is a true picture of unconditional love for another. This is one of the sweetest love stories that could be read at Christmas or anytime of the year. This one should be a movie. 🎥
I don’t want to spoil anything but I highly recommend this one! Go read it now so it can move up in the rankings where it belongs. This was my first book by Rebecca and it won’t be my last. I’m adding this Sweet River series to my list for my 2026 series TBR!! 🤩

Rebecca Jo Jackson is quickly becoming a favorite author for sweet romances with Hallmark vibes☺️ this was such a cute Christmas novella! (yes, I'm reading Christmas books already..it's never too early hehe)
One Little Chance was such a swoony second chance romance, and I loved being back in Sweet River after reading Lucy Loves Him Not earlier this year! It took me a bit to figure out the timeline changes, but once I found the rhythm, it was so easy to get swept up in Sophia and Jordan's love story. It proves that if something is meant to be, it will happen🥰
This book is releasing on November 1st! Thank you so much, Rebecca, for an early copy!
✨TW: this book contains topics of divorce and death.
One Little Chance was the first book I have read by Rebecca Jo Jackson, and I look forward to reading more. One Little Chance caught my attention from the start, and I could not put it down. What a perfect Christmas read to get you in the holiday spirit.
The character development was great. I was so invested in Sophia and Jordan’s story. I was so glad about the outcome. The romance was light and sweet, making it the perfect balance. It was a straight up hallmark in a book.
The Christian element was light, but present.
*I received a complimentary copy from the author and voluntarily chose to review it. All opinions are my own.
One Little Chance by Rebecca Jo Jackson is a sweet, small town second chance novella that just puts you in the feels.
** I would like to express my thanks to ☆ Rebecca Jo Jackson ☆ for providing me this ARC in exchange for an honest review **
Often I am always skeptical of novellas, as I feel like they are too short and not enough details are fleshed out enough. But with this one, that wasn’t the case. The book was deep and reminiscent. Throughout the entire story I was drawn in by the writing, where no words were wasted. All words the author wrote were expertly tied into the story. It was a story full of healing and second chances, and the characters were worthy enough for them.
Both characters were flawed and needed an immense amount of growing. That phrase is the right person and the right time. Even though they are the right person, doesn’t necessarily mean that it is the right time. This book explored that in a very tasteful way. Two individuals, though they had a past, made a new future together.
It was such a lovely little book! I can’t wait for the author’s next one!
This Christmas novella is so perfect for the season. I’ve adored every trip to the town of Sweet River I’ve taken so far, and this visit was no exception! I am a sucker for a childhood friends to lovers/second chance romance and with characters like Sophia and Jordan- it was hard to put it down! After being away for eight years, it’s always hard to move back home… but that’s what Sophia finds herself doing the day before Christmas. She also finds herself running into her childhood sweetheart Jordan, which is extremely hard given their history. She knew it would happen eventually, but she didn’t realize it would happen over and over again throughout town at some of their favorite old spots. She finds herself hoping it will continue to happen and even tries to manipulate ways/situations to try and spend time with Jordan. Second chances are rare, especially when so much time has passed, and so much has changed. Can they really make it work after all this time? Will they be able to get over what happened between them so long ago?! I highly suggest reading this novella to find out what happens between Sophia and Jordan this time around in Sweet River!!
““You’re my dream, Sophie. You always have been. Without you, none of it matters. It’s this, smile of yours, this heart of yours, the way you keep me guessin’ that makes my everyday life become a dream come true. I don’t want any of it if there’s no you.”

I absolutely loved this novella! To be honest it reminded me so much of my fiancée and I. Especially the ending, like my little heart was crying of joy at the end. 🥹💗 For this being a novella, I got to admit this was a 5/5✨ From the beginning of the book to the end of it, was absolutely perfect. I loved the dynamic between the main characters. They did have a rough patch at first but they were able to recover from their past and once again have faith in their relationship💗 I as well can admit both of their families had a great relationship with one another that they knew something was going to happen. I don’t really have much to say, than for sure purchase this book when it release. Such a great winter book to read before Christmas🥹💗 I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves: 1) Christmas 2) Easy Going main characters 3) Hallmark Movies
Eeeek Rebecca can take me back to Sweet River any time !!! Devoured this one in just a few hours and absolutely loved it.
It 100% has Christmas hallmark feel good vibes that leave you wanting more.
I love how the story went back and forth between the past and present and even though it was very predictable, it was so sweet and everything you want in a second chance at love holiday romance
Rebecca does an amazing job creating these Swoony, cozy, romances that I absolutely enjoy. She is a fabulous author and d I appreciate all of the heart she puts into her stories! This book kept me intrigued with the back & forth between timelines. I loved the character development as well as the sweet love story woven within the pages! This is the perfect read to squeeze in before the end of the year!
This is the sweetest second chance romance I’ve read to date. I thoroughly enjoyed how the story of Jordan and Sophie evolved. I felt like I knew these characters from their high school sweetheart days to their grown up, mature adult relationship. They’ve both been hurt, faced life challenges, and grown. They are the perfect couple!! This was such a comfort read for me and a quick read. I can easily see myself rereading their love story.
I really enjoyed this Christmas Novella. This book was super cute and a quick read. You became super invested into the relationship between Sophia and Jordan. You get to see the past and the present of their relationship. This book was very hallmark vibes.
This was a second chance romance that didn't have the third act breakup in it. The timeline shifts between the past and the present so you can see why certain actions were done and how Sophia and Jordan's relationship evolved. Their relationship starts as a sweet innocent teenage love and you see the flashbacks as to why they fell for each other in the beginning which added so much to the story. They both remember little details about each other that just show much they care for one another as well had my heart bursting with happiness.
This second chance I liked because it wasn't that they were wrong for each other but they had to grow up and figure out what they wanted for themselves first. They found themselves back to one another and finally admitted to each other that it was "always you".
This novella was a clean closed door romance, so if you are looking for a cute Christmas read I'd highly recommend.
Rebecca Jo Jackson should have this novella made into a limited series or movie on The Hallmark Channel. This was such a sweet little Christmas story. Rebecca’s books always put you in such a joyful kind of mood. Sophia is such a sweet character. I love the little town of Sweet River. I loved that Sophia and Jordan get reacquainted. I loved when you were taken back to the moments when Sophia and Jordan were previously together. The singing Christmas carols with his family seemed so incredibly sweet. I couldn’t get enough of them. This was a story that I wish didn’t end.
This is my first book (novella) by her and I it was so cute! I knew right from when I saw the cover I was going to love this book so I jumped on the chance to be an ARC reader.
I read it the first day it hit my kindle and let me tell you it is the perfect Christmas second chance. I even told her when I finished this would be the perfect book to snuggle by the fire next to your Christmas tree on a snowy day (not like we have those where we live but I usually put the tv on a snow falling loop… close enough 🤣)
This book truly felt like a hallmark movie in my head. @hallmark seriously this would be the perfect Christmas movie!!
🎄Christmas tree shopping 🌲He takes care of her when she’s sick 🎄He knows her coffee order 🌲Mistletoe Kisses 🎄Single POV 🌲Small Town 🎄Second Chance 🌲Childhood Sweethearts 🎄Golden Retriever MMC 🌲Sweet Romance 🎄No third act breakup 🌲It’s always been you
I am so excited that I was selected to receive an ARC for One Little Chance. After reading the first two books in the Sweet River series, I just knew that I needed to read the third one. Plus, that cover is absolutely STUNNING.
This book follows Jordan and Sophia (Rogers). Sophia and Jordan were best friends growing up, which then turned into a romance and at 18 Sophia ditches Jordan, in fear that 1) she will hold him back from his full potential, and 2) that she couldn't give him everything she thought he needed.
Sophia then gets married, gets divorced, and has decided to move back to Sweet River and just happens to run into Jordan. And again... and again... and again. Until fate steps in and the rest is history.
This is a wonderful second chance, friends to lovers novella. It is the perfect Christmas/Winter holiday setting!
