"You promised," I whispered. "You promised I was yours only. . ."

Angelic Sunni is about to get evicted from her apartment and signs up to be a club girl for a year to get back on her feet. The delicate, innocent Sunni catches the eye of brutal MC president, Raker d'Sanguine. Despite her fear of him, Sunni falls hard. She struggles to accept the MC lifestyle, and is terrified of the other bikers, but Raker swears she’s there for him only. Then one day he goes back on his promise, in a stunning betrayal that shatters Sunni to her core. In the aftermath, Raker goes to jail and Sunni flees. 18 months later, Raker is out and determined to atone for the mistakes he made. Sunni is his woman and she belongs to him. But when he finally hunts her down, she refuses to have anything to do with him. Can Raker convince her he’s a family man who she can open her heart to and trust again?

Author's note: This is a darker romance and not a romcom. This book contains on-page cheating, betrayal, high atonement and lower grovel, and is set in a brutal, harsh world where the MCs run the Southwest.

Nope! Definitely not. Number one reason? Too many plot holes. While the blurb had me interested the author's lack of detail about cult etc. was unfortunate. Number 2 reason? H was not redeemable. I've read this author's other books, and I don't really care for them, but at least they groveled, and were sorry for the cheating. Not so here. This H isn't like the other heroes in previous books. Even though they're all beta. He wasn't really sorry or regretful for that particular scene in the book. I felt he had an "oh well" attitude. So be aware before starting. He was going to marry someone else. After getting out of prison he does look for h, but she's pregnant and has a fiance. Of course the baby is actually the "hero's". He pushes his way in which would work for me any other time because I love a pushy alpha. He is NOT this though. So because his love is unconvincing it seems he only married her for their son.

Edit: author basically stated there would be next to no grovel. So very unconvincing HEA. I read cheating books all the time, so this book is probably a me thing. I need to have a convincing HEA. This couple is not it. And the h just looks pathetic

She can write and she did an interesting job in creating a MC world with a twist with religion and laws with water being a big asset.

So the reason for my low rating besides the fact that he had the h and was still with a bunch of others because I did know that going in is:

There was not a true redemption. He had her give a blow job to a MC member she was scared of while he fucked a club girl in front of her saying and doing things he did with her. He felt no remorse no jealousy over her giving another man a blow job. He had no trouble fucking this club girl got it up in front of her was into it. I had expected that while he made her do something with another man or two I figured during it his thoughts would have been fighting against letting it continue and he would be hating seeing it and barely able to stop himself from letting it go on. Also, that he was going to let a club girl touch him but not actually fuck her. Instead he did not have a thought of jealousy or even think about not wanting her to blow the OM. He was busy getting his rocks off with the nasty club girl. He even notes after how her lips were swollen by the blow job and thinks nasty OM but not once did he think about not liking or not wanting her to touch someone else. So the H goes to prison because the h ratted him out. After he gets out he looks for h. Several times it said he has been with no one since he got out but nothing confirming he was with no one in prison. I say that because in this world she created it seems there could have been access to sex in prison. He finds her she is engaged to another man and very much pregnant and he thinks it’s the other guys baby. He regrets making her give the blow job but no regrets about fucking OW in front of her. He is all of a sudden jealous and warns the fiancé to not touch her. It felt blah as this is the same guy that had her blow another man in front of him while he fucked OW. Now all of a sudden he did not want anyone touching her. That rang out like bullshit. Anyway, he makes some gestures and decides he will give up ow to have her, he forces her to marry him. They release water that the elders had hid. She is attacked by the blow job guy and killed. She forgives him super fast after what he did. It felt more like he was the only option for her and their baby.

Epilogue 12 months later they have a son. Could not believe in the HEA with how beta he was about ordering her to give a blow job watched it and never once got jealous or be tempted to stop it while he fucked another in front of her. If that whole scene had been done differently and there had actually been real remorse and him not wanting others instead it was oh well have to give others to have her. Not that he was not interested and not that he would have continued to fuck others of she had been ok with it. He was going marry someone else for gods sake even after her got out and was going after her he still at first planned to marry another woman. So this one really failed to hit the mark and failed to redeem the H at all.

I just do not know what to say.
I cannot rate it because it would be unfair, I don’t like books with unfaithful heroes and cheating but I don’t know if this one can be considered a cheating book.
It’s a dystopian world. There’s water penury and some kind of cults rule the country with MC. Yes, you have it right. Mc are top rulers with some other weird people.
The prez of this mc is trying new club girls, and he chooses the heroine who is a scrawny virgin. He selects her personally and has her to sleep in his room.
But she’s a club girl, which means she’s there for every brother to use for their pleasure. In exchange of a life where water and food never lack. A girls gotta do what a girls gotta do.
But the hero keeps her for himself, telling her she will always be his and his alone. He’s not exclusive, having bj from some randoms. But we cannot really fault because he never has a relationship with the heroine. She couldn’t claim him since he had to marry one of those women from the selected cult, this is a dystopian world and I wasn’t upset, it’s useless to be annoyed or hurt if the author decides to portrait a world that is brutal, where women are either used as whores or married for power, and that’s it.
When a nasty and jealous ow tells the hero that the heroine is expecting more from him, the hero flips and he has sex with this evil ow in front of the heroine while she’s asked to perform a bj to a nasty man, one who’s always lusting after her. The heroine could have refused and leave the club, she accepted. So no rape here. She hated it and felt betrayed by the hero who told her she would not be his, but she could have left without giving the man a bj.
She does it and afterwards she rats the club out and sends the hero to prison sadly just for six months.
When he’s out he goes looking for her and finds her pregnant. He wants her back but she doesn’t want him and she’s not the old naive girl she was before.
Anyway.
In the end water flows freely and the hero refused to marry ow and marries the heroine instead.
So, I did not like it a lot. But I can’t rate it according to my prejudice.
Actually the heroine is a club girl and the hero never promised to marry her or to be faithful, just that she would only be with him, and this after she was hired as a club girl, so imo beside the nasty betrayal that anyway she could have avoided and left without performing, I couldn’t see a lot of cheating.
While they were separated she slept with a man who was her boyfriend but eventually turned out to be evil. Pity. It could have been better.
The hero after the one time being with ow in front of the heroine, was celibate but who cares, this was not a normal world and nobody was supposed to have normal love stories.
There are some weird and rushed things, as the heroine’s boyfriend becoming suddenly evil and ow always around until the end. I expected that the heroine’s boyfriend becoming had killed when he learned about her deception. So, totally unsafe and not suggested for my safety girls.

This one is hard to rate, it started out enjoyably enough with some questionable story plotting, but I was going along for the ride, and having fun (mostly), but I found the second half quite dull and struggled even finishing at times.

It takes place in a futuristic dystopian Mad-Max sort of world where water is scarce and religious cults rule through motorcycle gangs. Sunni is poor and so desperate for essentials (food/water/shelter) that her only option for survival is to “tryout” to be a clubwhore for the local mc gang, and trying out consists of lining up for her turn to publicly screw the prez Raker. (the dude has STAMINA because he holds auditions all day long) Fortunately for Sunni she makes the cut.

This sets up the first half of the book that ends with the "stunning betrayal" provided in the blurb. This part was decent. There wasn’t much relationship building/chemistry between Sunni and Raker, but I don’t think this is that type of book. There is yummy drama caused by a skeevy mc dude, a jelly wannabe club skank, and Raker’s fiancée. That for me was where the good stuff was. The actual betrayal (you have to be alright with some cheating-ish shenanigans) was moving in a “I can NOT believe he just did that” stomach drop sort of way, and I felt it.

BUT then the book fell off the rails big time because the foundation for the entire plot crumbled to the ground with all the nonsensical bits.

Bottom Line- In a nutshell, I thought the first half was ok and the last half was no good. The illogical bits kept puling me out of the story, but I can get down with craptastic if it’s OTT with a lot of drama or action. The problem was the second half was boring AF until the very end when something finally happened because up to that point it was the same shit. Raker trying to sweeten up Sunni while she wasn’t having it with some boring side plot about water… over and over… rinse and repeat.

Safety-

2.5 stars. This book is an interesting mess. I appreciate that this author took a big swing with compelling ideas. And, I appreciate that she's not afraid to write cheating angst, when so many authors are. But, this one didn't work.

All of this author's other books under this pen name are cheating / grovel reads, where the heroine ends up with the hero who cheated on her - after making him pay, and after he grovels. Her books are too short and unserious, but they're entertaining and hit the spot for this trope. Her best one is His Vengeful Tradwife. This book is her worst one. If you liked her other books, you may not like this one. The "betrayal" happens later in the story than in her other books, and this book isn't satisfying if you're looking for a short "betrayal / grovel" read. To the extent that he grovels, his "grovel" is .

This is set in a dystopia Max Max-esque world, where water is scarce and religious cults and motorcycle clubs rule. Sunni (25), becomes a club girl because that's a good job in this world. Raker (37) is the club Prez. He keeps her all to himself, but then betrays her by sharing her with a club brother she was uncomfortable around (for an additional betrayal, he sleeps with an OW in front of her at the same time). He's also still sleeping with other women for a lot of the first half. So you'll hate this if you can't hack that. This was all a good set up. The world was interesting, I love an MC book where the heroine is a club girl...but then the 2nd half of the book falls apart.

Raker suddenly decide he loves Sunni whiplash fast, with no set up or development. Previously his inner monologue was dismissive of her, then suddenly he's all in. Why? What does he even like about her? I could buy her love for him, because her life seems grim and desperate so he's really the only thing for her to latch onto (even though I also needed more development on that from her, too). But his love for her really came out of nowhere. The pacing and characterization was disjointed.

He also does a lot of stuff that needed a LOT more room to breathe, like overthrowing this entire corrupt social structure. I appreciate that as a dark hero grovel gesture. But it doesn't work for a novella. Parts of the world reminded me of Stolen and the rest of the Saving Setora series - one of my favorites. But there's a reason that series is 7 books long! This concept needs room to be explored! In this book, it felt cartoonish, because he would do something like dramatically show up to a wedding and stab someone. But then, the story quickly moved onto the next thing without pausing for any impact of that drama. So, no scene felt like it had gravity. There were a lot of holes and inconsistencies with the worldbuilding - like, somehow, the FBI still exists and the prison system still exists, even though religious cults and MCs rule the world. Huh?? And, we're told that being a club girl is one of the heroine's only good job prospects. But later, she seems to be doing fine working in a coffee shop, and that seem to give her a better life than the MC did, so why wasn't she doing that in the first place? When Raker comes back to Sunni, he also offers her a good life, but she's like, "I'll take marriage or nothing." What's motivating her? Why wouldn't she accept a reasonably good life, why does she need marriage? We don't know! This doesn't fill out enough about her character.

This author's other books like His Vengeful Tradwife also needed more relationship development and depth - but since they were contemporaries, they mostly made their short length work. They could focus on the betrayal / grovel, instead of getting distracted by also having to do worldbuilding. This book had WAY too much going on: the worldbuilding, the "we must overthrow the corrupt social order" plot, Raker and Sunni's relationship angst. Raker having issues with his cousin. Raker's not-really "grovel." Sunni making new friends and conspiring to defy their social structure. All of that stuff would have made for a good 400 page book. Or a duet. Or a trilogy. It had NO business being this short and glossing over all the details.

If I'm not mistaken, this is a pen name for the same author who wrote The Eclipse Ritual - so I know she can do better. She is capable of writing similar dystopian settings, but in The Eclipse Ritual, that book was much better at focusing on 1 corner of its dystopian world, and laser-focusing on the main relationship. This book needed to do that. It spread itself too thin over like 20 different concepts, when it should have focused on 3-5 different concepts.

Although it's a mess, I like all the ideas in it, and I appreciate that the author was willing to go places where other authors aren't (with cheating angst). It's an interesting failure of a book. It feels like a rough draft that needed to be developed a lot more before the final draft.

The beginning was interesting although Raker must take viagra and drink 10 gallons of water before he has sex and finishes umpteen girls auditioning to be a club whore. Also the whole water thing wasn’t meshed out to be logical. I would expect a dystopian mad max setting versus a setting that has coffee shops… I don’t see Starbucks in a dystopian society where women have to become club whores I. Order to get a cup Of water. The whole last half was boring. Also
The religious cult trope didn’t fit either. I think the author should have just wrote a MCC book and forget the dystopian/ waterless religious cult scene.

This was a quick 4🌟 read for me. It’s a bit of a kitchen sink beginning with the dystopian setting where water is the most valuable currency parceled out by religious men, women are literally wives or whores, and motorcycle clubs function as governing bodies. Sunni, the h in this story auditioned to be a whore to have better access to water. She wants to save up some cash to go to school and figures she can do anything for a year. But
Then she goes and falls for the prez of one of these clubs. She manages to piss off other whores who don’t like sharing the prez, the water-rationing religious men, and his fiancé. There’s a wee bit of angst, but maybe just a toe dip. The angst comes with the betrayal, but we don’t linger there long. The story resolves itself quickly at the end. For an MC club prez, the grovel is okay. I inhaled this in a few hours and will def read more of her stuff.

On a tall fence with this one…while the premise of a dystopian world where water is lifeblood and a sign of your status in society drew me to this book, there were a few things I couldn’t get over to rate any higher. I’ve read other books by author and they were a bit of a hit or miss, so I wanted to see where she’d take us, and an ARC fell in my lap. Yippee!
I will say I wanted more of the world building. It was a bit Mad Max and Water World, with a SOA motorcycle club plot line. With a short story it is hard to build a world and make complex characters, and I felt this fell short. I was left wanting more…until I didnt want any. I am all for redemption stories. Look at my backlist. And I love a good grovel. But seriously some things you can’t grovel your way back from, and of the things our MMC did to our FMC, the grovel wouldn’t cut it. Subjective? Yes, so each review will differ.
Thanks to BookSirens for this ARC. This opinions are always my own.

2.5 stars - Better than I expected, going in! I didn’t expect to even finish it 🤣

This book is not safe, no matter your definition. So if safety is important to you, this is not for you.

I might have rated it higher if the MC’s didn’t both receive abrupt lobotomies by the author midway. There’s a complete personality change that really needed more development to work.

Other than that, I read it straight through, and was entertained in a morbid curiosity kind of way. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Too Proud Of Not Sticking His Dick In Other Holes, Pretends Like He Doesn't Care, Can't Stop Reflecting About His Dick Inside Other Holes. She's Pregnant, He's Orgasming Inside OW

Now don't get me wrong, I'm not great on the grovel.

I find anecdotal solutions to long term habitual problems, to be cowardly and immature, or emotionally stunted.

The book is just mixed signals from the moment he cums inside Angel and tells her its the best sex he's had in a long while and then the next second, internally pretending that he regretted it instantly.

He is way too proud of the fact he doesn't want to dick around.

But then, I don't have severe Daddy Issues, that I'm so Unseen, Unloved and utterly Unfucked, that I need to show the Seen women how to be a doormat.

She should have taken a pill.

Like the book wants to be dark.

Yet...she keeps her pregnancy.

Wow, so your romance isn't dark, its just misogynistic.

When his son was gestating inside her, he was cumming inside Angel.

And she remained pregnant.

Oh you know this is targetting the Unseen bitches who think its their right to gestate a child to emotionally abuse when they are hurt.

Can't relate.

My partner is emotionally invested in my pussy.

The body is the organ of emotion.

But then, I've never tried to nuance a man summoning the blood pressure to gain an erection, keep the blood pressure raised to maintain an erection, sustain through touching someone I'm not invested in, until orgasming with that person by choice.

That's some slip up.

One that requires a lot of exertion.

He demonstrated his emotional depth DEEP inside Angel.

Letting his mate Orally Rape his partner.

What a Green Pilled Patriarchial Parable of Toxicity, written for the women who listened to their mates rape stories, and felt envy.

A Quick MC Read

I’m giving this book 3 ½ stars because it was a tough book for me to get into. It seemed a little out there. Sunni signs up to be a club girl and Ryker, the Prez, told her that she is all his…until she’s not. This may be for some people but it just didn’t do it for me.

Really wish I'd waited for the KU version to come out instead of preordering at full price. That's on me. I was just so excited by how much I'd enjoyed His Vengeful Tradwife combined with the blurb on this that I one-clicked, wanting the author to get paid a bit better than she would if I'd just read in KU.

We're in a dystopian cult world with restricted access to water. The "Elders" are both the priests and the arbiters of who controls water (i.e., wealth). Somehow the motorcycle clubs are closely aligned with the Elders and seem to be in some position of authority, because the Elders care a whole lot about who the Prez marries. Women are second-class citizens (it's said at one point that the man gets the shower and the woman bathes in his leftover water that collects, so that's the kind of cheery misogyny we're dealing with here). Raker is the Prez of the Saints MC. We start with auditions for a coveted "club whore" position, which Raker hosts because he doesn't seem to have any kind of a refractory period and can go unlimited times in a row (his penis seems to be like one of those old weebles-wobble-but-they-won't-fall-down toys), and yeah, it's what you're thinking: he does the chicks and decides if they're going to get the job.

Sunni, our FMC, is a super-poor virgin really hoping to get the job because she is in desperate need of money and a place to stay and... y'know... water... She auditions and whatdya know gets the position -- or gets to assume the position, whichever. Raker decides she's so good in bed that he immediately puts her in his room for his exclusive use (which he eventually tells her will be the deal, but keep in mind, when she took the job, she thought she was going to be "servicing" everyone). Maybe there were mixed messages that I didn't see, I don't know, but to me it seemed like Raker was pretty clear with her -- she was there as a sex object. I never got any indications of love or deeper feelings from him other than he really liked the sex.

I just couldn't get into this FMC. She falls for Raker just about right out of the gate and even though he's a product of the misogyny he benefits from and treats her as such, she seems to think he loves her too. So when, as punishment for acting like a girlfriend and not a club whore (which, again, Sunni seemed to think she wasn't...?) he makes her service another member, while doing another club girl in front of her, she has enough, and quits. (Which is supposed to be within the rules. Being a club whore is a voluntary paid position.) She also sells secrets to the feds about some illegal guns he told her about because whatdya know, she's preggers and needs money. (None of those things are within the rules.) Raker goes to jail and Sunni gets the hell out of Dodge.

It isn't until after Raker's stint in jail that I got any kind of vibe from him that he was into Sunni in any way whatsoever and then it's a sexsexsexobsessivesexfucksexohyeswannahavesex kind of thing. That's when he starts to pursue her but it was too little too late for me to get into this story. I actually didn't hold too many of Raker's actions against him. He was the product of his world and took advantage of what was given to him. He didn't promise her his fidelity (and did eventually promise her that he wouldn't make her have sex with anyone else, but to expect loyalty from this guy was absolutely TSTL on her part), and from the start made it clear that he didn't see her as anything but what she'd been hired to do: service him. She wasn't a person, she was a collection of holes. After the 8 month break, that changes, but I lost any respect for Sunni I could have had when the idiot fell for him after knowing what she was hired for and never really receiving any actual affection from the guy. I mean, I understand falling for someone without wanting to, but then demanding a relationship from him and turning him into the cops because he wasn't who you decided he was... I dunno, she just came across as very entitled, for no real reason other than he just didn't want to share her, which does not a relationship make, even if it is different behavior from an MC and a club whore.

Not my favorite at all (in fact, probably my second-least favorite), but I'm still gonna look forward to the next one. I just won't pre-order it. At least I didn't feel that the author emasculated the MMC in favor of making the FMC stronger, which has been my main gripe with the first two books of hers I read.

The H and h live in a cult-like world in which power controls access to water. The h is desperately poor and evicted from her home when she "auditions" for a position as an MC whore. The H is the club Prez who chooses her to be his, promising that she will not be shared. He breaks his promise. She leaves. He does not know that she is newly pregnant with his child. He is negotiating a marriage with another powerful MC. He is arrested for gun running. When he gets out of prison his focus is on finding the h who is now engaged. The story felt disjointed and the dystopian world did not work for me. What did they eat without access to water? How did a hospital function with restricted access to water? What was the motivation for the villainous characters? Too many holes. I was rushing to just finish it.

quick spicy read!

My only complaint with this book was that it was too short! I wanted more ! No I need more lol I really enjoyed this story it’s a quick angsty spicy romance there’s a big betrayal and little grovel but it worked for these two and Raker being a MC president I’m glad this author didn’t change his personality and turn him into a pussy instead she stayed true to his personality. I also really liked Sunni she was definitely always looking at the bright side of things she tried to never let anything bring her down when Raker broke her heart I felt her pain I wanted to throat punch him but I loved her backbone she grew I loved when he brought her back she took no shit from anyone! This has the potential I think to turn into an awesome series ! I have pretty much read everything Katie Landry has written and I have loved every single book and this one was definitely no different!

Set into a futuristic world where water is scarce and one must do what needs to be done to survive we are introduced to Sunni who auditions to become a club whore to a local motorcycle club(I know...it's weird) and Raker who is the President to a motorcycle club and they get to know each other by fucking. That's the gist of it.

It started off weird then it became not too weird but then it just didn't work out for me.

This author writes cheating books. I love to read cheating books. So I'll continue to read this authors cheating books even though they are not to my liking. *shrugs shoulders*

What the (beeep) I just read and loved it! This book was about some kind of apocalyptic MC, and I could not stop reading about Ryker and Sunny. It started great and very different from any other MC books I've read. It is a fast paced book, maybe too fast. The reason I took one star is because after the great start, there was no characters built at all, and everything was sooo predictable. Never the less this was really entertaining read, and I can't wait for the next book by this author to be published.

I loved the unique concept of a dystopian world and MC clubs. Its an interesting combination.

The hero in this becomes obsessed with the heroine. And I loved how she slowly sheds her sweet and trusting personality to one that has a spine of steel after the hero hurts her. He needed to change his ways completely to win her back.

Tropes:

- Age gap ( h 25, H 37)
- MC + clubgirl
- Virgin
- H "betrothed" to someone else, part of MC alliance. So H "cheats" with h, but is never with this OW sexually
- Unrequited love: h falls in love with H. He tells her they can never have more
- OW drama (fiancee and other clubwhore hate h and cause drama)
- Pregnant heroine
- Betrayal. H goes back on his promise to never share her with anyone.
- Grovel, H apologizes and tries to earn back her love and trust

Ehh...

This book was okay. Like I enjoyed it, but the plot holes, poor grammar, and weird misrepresentation of how pregnancy works were annoying.

The ending was crazy rushed and glossed over. The whole tearing down the Elders domain and Apostle finally getting his ending was completely anticlimactic.

The fact she claimed her milk was coming in while she was still pregnant was incredibly annoying. That's not how milk and pregnancy work, but okay. It would've been more convincing if she just claimed to be having Braxton Hicks. But really, this just made me think the author has no idea how pregnancy and hormones work.

Also, this book is tagged completely wrong. This is NOT a cheating book. They were not in an exclusive relationship. He wasn't even in love with her at the time. She was just a completely naive girl who hyped herself up and believed his lies. Was he an a$$hole and betrayed her trust? Yes, absolutely. But he didn't cheat.

And yes, there is grovel. So idk why the author tagged it the way she did, but it's completely inaccurate.

Ps, please get some to read and edit your books before publishing. So many little errors that could have been caught.

I like a good cheating book as well as the next cheating-ok-girlie, but this was not it. Other reviews pretty much sum it up but my biggest gripe over all the reasons is the loose thread.

Angel spews a bunch of bullshit to Elizabeth, who tells Raker a bunch of bullshit and says a club girl told him. This is the entire premise of him giving Sunni to Apostle and him fucking Angel in front of everyone. Nowhere does the author acknowledge that Sunni did literally nothing wrong. Angel and Elizabeth get no comeuppance. I'm more mad about that than the lack of grovel (I was prepared there wouldn't be one so I walked in knowingly.)

Wow!

What a story! It’s short but it packs a serious punch. This is what happens when The Handmaid’s Tale is swept up in a torrid affair with Sons of Anarchy and has a baby.

First up - this is set in a world where women are subjugated. It is not a good world.
Second - Raker is not the kind of man who grovels. His idea of a grand gesture is lowering himself enough to apologise. But that doesn’t say so much about him as it does about the society they live in (see my previous point).
Third - this story - while pretty well crafted and definitely complete - will leave you wanting to read more about that world. I know I certainly do.

I was so excited for this because Katie Landry has quickly become a guilty pleasure author for me with her three other novellas—she really, really delivers on the groveling from the MMCs, so I had high expectations for this one. Unfortunately, they were not met at all.

Not when it came to the groveling, though, which is surprising because the author states herself that there is "almost no grovel" in the novella. And sure, compared to her other novellas, that’s true, but somehow, Katie Landry’s definition of "almost no grovel" is still more than what you’ll find in the average basic romance making the rounds on TikTok every day—so at least she has that going for her.

But the misogyny in this novella left such a bad taste in my mouth. Every other page had me side-eyeing whatever I was reading. The fact that Sunni, the FMC, repeatedly bases her entire worth as a human on her relationship with Raker, the MMC, was just downright embarrassing. Like, there are multiple scenes where she literally measures her value as a person by what she means to Raker. For example:

"Elizabeth might have all the money, all the power, all the water, and I might be living in the wrong part of town, in a tiny little apartment above a coffee shop, but I had one thing she didn’t. Raker’s child."

Girl… that’s what you’re hanging your self-worth on? The fact that you got pregnant by this man? Not your own accomplishments, not your own dreams—just the fact that you’re carrying his child? That’s what makes you valuable? It’s giving 1950s housewife propaganda.

And then there’s this gem:

"I’m not ashamed of being a whore," I said, my voice coming out strong and even. "But put some respect on my name. I’m Raker’s wife now."

So, let me get this straight. The respect you believe you deserve isn’t based on who you are, what you’ve survived, or even what you’ve built for yourself—but on the fact that you’re now legally tied to a man? That’s what suddenly makes you worthy? It’s as if Sunni doesn’t even exist as her own person; her entire identity revolves around being Raker’s wife and Raker’s baby mama. Reading her POV felt like being inside the head of a 13-year-old teenage girl during peak Justin Bieber fever—she might as well print out a giant poster of Raker, hang it on her wall, and pray to it every night, because without him, she apparently has no sense of self.

And Raker? Awful. He really acts like giving up random pussy for Sunni is some huge, soul-crushing sacrifice. Meanwhile, Sunni wanting marriage and a family is framed as if she’s ruining his entire life and stripping him of all his power. Oh, and let’s not forget that he constantly calls her a whore in his head. So yeah, he’s just so dreamy. 🙄

1.5 stars.
I wish there would have been a connection between the two main characters. The girl is helplessly in love with the mc for some unknown reason (because there truly is non). The man is very clear in his thoughts about his opinion and feelings toward the fmc – or lack thereof. I don't really understand the sudden change in him, and I don't agree with his actions. The author also had to disgrace the new man in the fmc's life to get them back together. Still, I couldn't really rate it lower because of my personal views on other events that were warned in the TW's. The storyline was still interesting with this dystopian future, and despite me skimming most of the story, it was unique enough to finish, but not one I would read again.

Cheating = gray area...h is a club ho (who was a v and has only been with the H, so...not really but is the designation she agreed to in order to be a part of the club). H is told a bunch of BS about the h and to punish her, he screws another club ho in front of the h. H never claimed that he would only be with the so the h could not expect fidelity on his part, BUT the H had promised that the h only had to be with him. So cheating??

h sees H with OW = see above

SA/R = while H is "punishing" h by screwing OW, he tells one and all that the h is now "free use" for others and the OM who creeps out and scares the h, forces the h to gargle his peen. The h was scared and to me this was SA/R as the h was given no real choice and being the H directed her to do it with the one OM that she had explicitly told the H scared her and that she thought was creepy was such a betrayal and IMO made the H the instigator in the h defilement that was against her will. May be gray area for some, but it felt to me like the h could not give consent and if she said no, there was no guarantee that h wouldn't suffer in other ways.

OW drama = H gets engaged to marry with OW1 and the club ho he f'ed was OW2. OW1 and OW2 colluded to tell the H about how h was scheming which led to all the above. OW1 kidnapped the h at one point to try and get H in line. OW2 let OM (creepy dude) in to assault h. Comeuppance? h put a physical smack down on both OWs and then they just kind of faded out of the story, not sure what else happened.

MC = part of new story building world in a different/dystopian society ruled by priests who control the water

Grovel = really no grovel, but for those saying there was no grovel, I disagree. What was done was totally in character for the world the author built and the H was obsessed and totally in love with the h but had to realize the constraints his world put on him and decide whether he would stay within the rules given or strike out and do his own thing where loving and having the h was not forbidden. The H literally burned down his world and did it all to make it possible for him to be with the h. So, grovel? Eh...but through deed I think he did if not by word.

MC romance. But with an interesting twist. The setting for this book is almost dystopian, i that something happened at some point that water is restricted, and how water is distributed is overseen by a group known as the elders. The book starts out with the FMC coming to the motorcycle club to basically have sex with the president in hopes of becoming one of the club whores. Her home life right now is not good and she’s tired of struggling and not having water so this is what she wants to do. The president is immediately taken with her and decides that she is going to be his and not be with anyone else in the club.

This book is also surprise pregnancy. There’s also some other woman drama, in that one of the other club whores is conspiring with the woman who the MMC is supposed to be marrying. She tells the president that the FMC is trying to manipulate the situation and get pregnant, and the MMC believes her and says and does something hurtful. The FMC in turn betrays the MMC, which causes him to be arrested, and she pulls a runner. When he is released from prison, he sets out to find her because he realizes he can’t live without her.

Once he finds her, she refuses to go with him and informs him that she’s actually engaged to someone else and pretends that the baby she’s carrying belongs to her fiancé. The MMC refuses to give her up in spite of all of that. A lot more drama ensues, the FMC is placed in precarious situations where she can be hurt, ultimately the MMC forces a marriage on her, and she ends up telling him that the baby actually belongs to him. She does end up forgiving him for everything, and they get their happily ever after.

This author’s work is very unpolished. It’s raw, it’s gritty, and the grammar isn’t the best. But it’s entertaining as hell, it’s straightforward, and that’s why I continue to read her stuff.

Full disclosure. I like Katie Landry's books. Her writing style is unapologetic and her stories zip along. She is fearless when taking on the cheating trope (a favourite of mine) and given the backlash authors often get for this, it's brave.

This one isn't for the faint hearted or for anyone who hates any form of cheating. It is explicit and brutal as indeed many dark romance biker stories are. There is an added twist to this one though. It is set against a backdrop of almost a post apocalyptic world where water is scare and the bikers rule alongside cults.

Rakers is the club Prez and rules it just as you would imagine with girls aplenty. Sunni is a naive sweet girl who is desperate for water and a home and her only hope is 'auditioning' for the Prez to become a club girl; I'll leave her audition piece to your imagination. Sunni falls for Raker pretty quickly but he carries on sleeping with other people and one or two moments are truly unsavoury.

My one issue with this book is that it is very rushed. SO much happens in a very short few pages that it leaves you with whiplash. I honestly feel the author could have taken her time and made this a duet.

Having said that, if you like a cheating trope, set amongst the bad biker boys with an HEA then this is for you.

Still annoyed with how naive, innocent and stupid Sunni was at the beginning, but she did stand her ground and leave, and she didn’t just accept an apology and get over everything. He did have to prove himself a little bit. But I was beyond angry that she’s the one who got him arrested. Am I seriously supposed to believe that Raker just let that go?! They were talking about her trusting him, but what about him trusting her? Not sure if the MCs get on the straight and narrow after the ending with the elders and the water, but if not, how would he trust she wouldn’t betray him again? Yes, his betrayal was far worse, but I just can’t see an MC prez being like oh you turned me in to the cops? Totally ok, just forget about it.

I actually really liked the premise of the elders and the water shortage and everything that went down. Wondering how this is all going to play out in future books though with how this ended. Hoping Elise, Willow and Bridget get stories, and I hope we get builder and Amira.

Sunny with a ‘y’ to Sunni with a ‘i’

I was drawn into the story from the very first page—the author knows exactly how to capture your attention.
At first, Sunni (MFC) came across as innocent naïve, then desirable naïve, then in-love naïve, at times too saccharine. The whole virginity part felt a bit odd—no spots of blood, which was weird. Then she was betrayed in a way that completely broke her, and that’s when everything changed. The emotional pain reshaped her into someone stronger, fiercer—don’t f** with me, Sunni!* I loved that transformation.
As the president of the MMC club, Raker’s (MMC) arrogance , aggression, and dominance fit his character perfectly—it’s who he has to be. I’m happy the author didn’t soften or change Raker’s character while he was trying to win Sunni back. It kept him real and true to his role.
Overall, this was an engaging read filled with action, spilled blood, betrayal, and redemption. The author delivers a story that keeps you hooked and emotionally invested from start to finish.

I was intrigued by the blurb and wanted a slice of this dystopian romance and fortunately I wasn't disappointed. We meet the H and h in the most bizzare situation. The H is interviewing (let's call it that) a list of candidates for the position of his club girl and the h is an aspirant for that very position. They meet and instant chemistry… not! She is shy but desperate, he is jaded but intrigued by her. He marks her as his exclusive property however always maintaining that he will never marry her. For wife he needs someone with connections and who is apparently pure!!!!

This is the point of contention. Things go wrong and he betrays her trust badly. She calls the cops on him and pulls a runner. He realises his mistake, tracks her down and tries to reconcile but she is in no mood for his bs! The H has a good redemption arc and ending was done just right.
