Nadya sealed her fate by saving the wrong soul, resurrecting a man with a Lalovian artifact that should be hers by rights. Now she must protect a tyrant who's only earned her hate. The king seeks to employ her, use her necromancy powers for his own gain – and he’s not the only one.
The court despises her until they need her services. Nadya is pulled in every direction but one, back to the home she knows and loves. The man she saved is the catalyst to her loss of freedom, a fact Nadya struggles to remember as his ocean eyes pull her into their tide – one that will surely drown her.
If he wants her heart, he’ll have to win her soul first. She already owns his.
I could have read this one faster had it been possible, I had a hard time putting it down and missed the characters and world when I had to at the end. The main character Nadya is amazing, down-to-earth, compassionate, and cunning, with an intricately-developed, dark, but beautiful magic, that she chooses to use to help the people of her kingdom, despite being part of a sub-culture that is ostracized by it. Her magic system is intriguing for someone who loves all things supernatural and eerie.
I loved each character she loved and hated each one who tried to bring her down. Her family, friends, and love-interest(s) all had quirks and qualities that both endeared them to me and made me laugh. It was enjoyable to watch her relationships change, grow, and intensify as she navigated a kingdom that chastised her, a court that planned her demise, and courtiers who plotted and back-stabbed.
The romance of the story was a snarky slow-burn that had me begging and rooting for the main love interest, and relieved when they come together. The chivalry, devotion, flirtatious dynamic, sex-appeal, and smooth moves of her match is enticing and made me root for him, and Nadya’s happiness, so hard.
Th Necromancer’s Choice is one of my absolute favorite books I have read. This romantasy is perfect for anyone consumed with the genre who is craving something little more dark and different than another fae or vampire read, who enjoys supernatural and/or horror elements, and loves a romance that develops anticipation, passion, and love. I absolutely recommend this book and hope we see more of my girl Nadya one day.
I really enjoyed the Romani aspect of this book but I found it too confounding to make it much past 10%. There's a carelessness in either the writing or the editing - or both - that just rubbed me wrong. If the author can't decide whether her main character is choking on a piece of bread or its chicken that's magically sliding down her throat; if ghosts can't speak to Nadya but then she's relaying their messages for payment; or if ghosts are vengeful but then they aren't; she can't resurrect someone more than once, only she lies that she can...you get the picture. So much is contradicted for seemingly no reason but it became impossible to keep reading.
Disappointing because the actual writing really isn't bad at all - and it's a decent idea for a storyline too - but the execution really let it down. Maybe this book becomes more consistent but my patience with this book has reached its end pretty early on.
Unputdownable Romantasy 10/10 would (and probably will) read again
Where to start? First I rarely leave reviews so I either gotta really love it or really hate it. I have been looking for more books in the adult romantasy genres lately and this did not disappoint. I devoured this book. Writing was so smart and funny. Mixed in with all the excitement, I laughed out loud more than a book has made me in a while and that says alot being at over 150 read for this year.
Just the right amount and mix of romance, spice, action, and drama. Another relatively quick easy read from this Author which is almost devastating because I wanted MORE I didn't want to stop. It's engaging and had me flipping pages as fast as I could the whole time. The plot twists and story line were surprising and refreshing to truly catch you off guard. We love a strong FMC who keeps fighting for herself and doesn't immediately drop the cause to swoon. Characters thoroughly, creatively and intelligently developed. A bit of a slow burn with enough spice sprinkled throughout to not keep you hanging too long.
The world building was great. It was more expansive, we just heard about it didn’t visit. However the Travelers Quarters painted a picture of poverty and a people held against their will and nature, whom no one cared lived or died, except those held there. The castle was painted as one would expect, by royalty who cares little about the people. The male main was an amazing shadow daddy. He didn’t rely just on magic, he had skills that helped aside from magic. The side characters steal your heart. They are written as well as the FMC. this book was a journey, you never actually knew where it was headed. It was fun to read, I loved it.
From start to finish, this story will take you down a path of trials and sacrifices. Along the way, you'll encounter an accepting love, a love for the uniquely perfect chaos someone can bring to your life. Just when you think you know what will happen, the story changes to unimaginable proportions. In other words... Read the book.
The story of how a necromancer learn to control her powers. The twists and turns of the story surprised me, it did not go where i thought it would. Plottwist of an ending. Its a really good book worth the read!
This has everything I want in a romantasy. Nadya is my kind of girl, and Bash is my kind of shadow daddy 😘 Perfect for you girlies who like something a little twisted.
