Sadly this is a DNF at 63%

I didn't like the writing style or the way that the plot progressed.

Both the MC needed more backbone. I know that they didn't want to dissapoint the people of their respective kindgoms but they practically let them walk over them. If they are going to rule, they need to know how to assert their authority.

I also didn't like the judgement that other characters express about the FMC's sexual life, even from her own mate. Dude, if you want the girl you date to be a virgin, then date a virgin, not judge your mate from not being one.

It is a wonderful story of fated mates, magic, and love. How a young girl fulfills her destiny of becoming Queen. After finding her mate and killing him to killing parents to ascend to the throne. The story tells of her pain, her fears, and the love of her best friend who stays by her side through it all.
The characters are well written, the storyline is easily followed, and engaging

This one is a whirlwind of an adventure. It's a political story laced with magic and dark romance, and of course, you can't forget about all the struggles for power. This is going to you sitting on the edge of your seat, and from the first page, you're not going to be able to look away. This isn't your typical paranormal romance either. Teal Rose doesn't are the kind of author who will shy away from the guilty complexities of power, loyalty, or of choice. Having read Sarah J. Maas's A Court of Thorn and Roses I can say that this book made me think of it. But, at the same time, this is just 100 times better and oh so much more original and fierce. And there are oh so many more charged dynamics.

It was interesting from the dual narration between Kaydian Thibodeaux and Geryson Swiftwater. Honestly, I would say that dual narration is the heart of this novel. Our FMC Kaydian is the last person you would even think of calling passive or a pawn. She has a sharp tongue and a relentless spirit. This kept me rooting for her. Although I did question that decision at times as there were moments when she stumbled and stood on the edge of morality. We see Kaydian's mix of defiance and her vulnerability, and this is such a refreshing mix in this genre.

Our MMC Greyson exudes all the classic alpha energies, and yet I found that he had a twist to him at the same time. I found that he didn't have the stereotypical “strong but brooding” trope that we see in most male alpha leads. Rather, I found that he struggled in his self-worth and with the pack's scrutiny. And with him, this really felt like it was grounded and authentic. When he was hesitating to trust Kaydian, you could feel the tension that was simmering between them and in their interactions.

Sometimes, I find that the fated mate trope can be overdone. It seems like all the authors are out there writing this trope these days. But Teal does it perfectly here, infusing it in with just enough tension and then some raw and messy moments that you find it engaging fresh and new. There is a softness to Teals' fated mate's trope that just touched my heart.

The way Teal describes Houston and its magical underbelly is so delightful and immersive. You feel like you could go there. From the gritty alleys, the hidden rituals, even the electric push-and-pull of the magic that lies simmering just under the surface, just out of our view, it made the setting feel alive and very dangerous.
Teal elevates Blood Throne by diving into the consequences of the power that is wielded. I loved all the themes of loyalty, sacrifice, and how you can forge your own destiny, but she does it without the normality of the preaching that you normally get. A perfect example of this is when Kaydian faces the choice of either clinging to a predetermined fate or breaking the mold. You, as the reader, can feel her turmoil. And then you have that climax? It's the actual whirlwind of magic, blood, and heartache. It left me breathless and almost broken.

This is not your typical magic romance; this is a bold, character-driven story, and it will leave its mark on you. This is richly layered and has high stakes that actually feels like they matter. It's a story that doesn't pull anything, and it will pull on your heart.

Definitely a crushable read and I liked how the fated mates trope was absolutely turned on it's head. That being said, I mostly only liked a couple of side characters and found everyone constantly being frustrated with everyone else very tiring to read. She goes crazy, kills her mate (he was an abusive loser anyway), kills her parents and takes the throne. The romance was terrible (but felt purposefully so). I kept almost wanting to like FMC but then she would be super cruel and problematic. I guess she was the least bad of the cast of problematic people. Anyway, a quick read! Probably give it like 3.25*

Teal Rose’s Blood Throne is a whirlwind blend of dark romance, magic-laced politics, and power struggles that will have readers entranced from the first page. Unlike many run-of-the-mill paranormal romances, this story doesn’t shy away from the gritty complexities of power, loyalty, and choice, reminiscent of the charged dynamics in A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas, while adding its own fierce bite of originality.

The dual narrative between Kaydian Thibodeaux and Greyson Swiftwater is the heartbeat of this novel. Kaydian is no passive pawn; her sharp tongue and relentless spirit kept me rooting for her even as she teetered on the edge of moral ambiguity. One scene that especially stood out was when Kaydian’s confidence crumbled in the face of a betrayal within her own coven—it was raw, visceral, and completely human. Teal Rose doesn’t allow her protagonist to be perfect; Kaydian’s mix of defiance and vulnerability makes her a refreshing addition to the genre. If you loved Bryce Quinlan’s determination in House of Earth and Blood, you’ll be right at home with Kaydian’s journey.

Greyson, on the other hand, exudes the classic alpha energy with a compelling twist. Unlike many “strong but brooding” male leads, his struggles with self-worth and the pack’s scrutiny felt grounded and authentic. His hesitance to trust the mysterious Kaydian set up a palpable tension that simmered throughout their interactions. The fated mates trope can sometimes feel overdone, but here, it’s infused with enough tension and raw, messy moments to keep it engaging. One memorable exchange, filled with thinly veiled challenges and reluctant softness, genuinely made my heart race.

Rose’s depiction of Houston’s magical underbelly is delightfully immersive. The gritty alleys, hidden rituals, and the electric push-and-pull of magic simmering just beneath the surface made for a setting that felt alive and dangerous. It reminded me of The Black Witch Chronicles in terms of scope and stakes, though with a darker, more urban twist.

What really elevates Blood Throne is its willingness to dive deep into the consequences of power. The themes of loyalty, sacrifice, and forging one’s own destiny ring loud and clear, but without feeling preachy or predictable. When Kaydian faces the choice of either clinging to a predetermined fate or breaking the mold, the reader feels every ounce of her turmoil. And the climax? It’s a whirlwind of magic, blood, and heartache that had me breathless.

There were moments when the pacing dipped slightly, and a few plot threads felt like they could have used a tighter resolution. But these minor hiccups are overshadowed by the gripping character arcs and the emotionally charged journey.

Overall, Blood Throne isn’t your run-of-the-mill magical romance; it’s a bold, character-driven tale that leaves a mark. If you’re a fan of richly layered characters and stakes that matter, this is one to devour. Just be ready for a story that doesn’t pull its punches—or its heartstrings.

My gosh!!! Was this a ride of a book!!! This book trapped me the first few pages and didn't let up. With big books sometimes I get bored in parts or they brag a little but NOT this one at ALL. Kaydian is a bad temper, doesn't care savage. I mean the things she does in this book to get what she wants I wasn't expecting at all. She has a best friend named Dale that just follows right along with her even though she knows it wrong.
Kaydian gives off maleficent vibes for sure.

I haven't read a fantasy book like that and I need more in my life!!!! This author doesn't miss a beep and keeps it going the hole time. I am not going to lie I was sad when this one ended. I would have loved to hear more about her dragon 🐉 tho, they sounds so cool and makes me want to ask for one for Christmas 🤣 Could you imagine!!!! Going on my list right now.....

This book brings the fantasy world and just enough world building to completely understand everything. Some of the books out here are so hard to follow but this wasn't at all. You have witches, transporting with magic, werewolf, Covens with limited powers, dragons, royalties and so much more!!!!

My favorite part about this book is not only did it have a fantasy world but also talks about different places. Which one is SACRAMENTO my home !!! I loved herring it name Throughout the book the whole time.

I am overall excited to see what happens next in this chapter in the author books. She is an amazing writer and so creative!!! Top 5 fantasy book this year for me.

Dark and Fantastical

This was an adventure. KD was everything a royal could be. Ambitious, selfish, duplicitous and for a princess, luckily very strong willed. The deep dark parts of the story resonated so well with her character. I figured out one of those riddles ahead of time and suspected the other one.

KD is ice cold, but anything for the throne. Can't say all the collateral damage didn't make my heart ache, but I knew what KD was from the beginning.

Greyson had a spine like wet paper bag, but he honestly had no one to shore up his insecurities and trauma. Still, them being fated mates was messed up if the goddess really had a hand in that.

KD's bestie was openly smitten and a ride or die.

Overall, I did enjoy the book for it to be fantasy+contemporary piece. I'd hardly call it a romance unless you mean KD's infatuation with the attention of others.

Lol Even the mate bond didn't convince me. Very little of the book was about the relationship between KD and Greyson. Everyone in this book was so non-confrontational I was shaking my head the whole time. 😂

The world is just as bloody and interesting that its lore is a big draw for fantasy fans. I'll be looking out for the next one.

This book had me all over the place! I mean I don’t even know what to think. It was super long & drawn out. But it was interesting. I wish that Greyson had more grit though, he kinda let people walk all over them. Greyson is suppose to be alpha, but he cares to much about others input when being an alpha is more like a dictatorship if you don’t like it leave sort of thing. Well I imagine it would be because that’s usually how it is. His uncle was a d-bag & later we find out he is the reason for all of Greyson’s issues. Except the issues involving her parents which he holds against her which is sad because she can’t help who her family is. Sarai was another story she had grit & backbone but she took it a little too far at points. I get why it ended the way it did, but it saddened me greatly. After everything that’s not how I saw it ending for them. Still a very good read & you won’t be disappointed to read it.

This is book one in the Emerald Crown Series. What a way to start off a series! This was quite a tornado of emotions for me. I loved it, but I really don’t know how to feel about the characters. Don’t get me wrong, they are well written so that’s not what I mean. Kaydian and Greyson are forbidden fated mates, so their relationship is practically doomed at the start. I feel bad for Greyson, and I hate how things went for him in this story. Kaydian needs to get out from under her parents and feels there is only one way. She still has her best friend, and there may or may not be a love interest that’s reciprocated but questionable. I’m curious how the next book in the series is going to go and who or what it is going to be about.

As always be mindful of the trigger warnings, what I like you may not

Happy Reading!

I got this book at a recent Stuff Your Kindle event. Well, had I read the blurb, I would have gotten a good idea of the editing inside. 160 words and 4 (perhaps 3?) obvious editing problems

Instead I jumped in and suffered it in person. I really gave it a chance, put 5+ hours of reading to get through 6-7 chapters (out of 34). Have yet to meet the other protagonist and at this point I just don't care. There are fun limits put on the witches, but partially ignored. In those 7 chapters 3 events have happened and we really could have done with one of them as exposition and then moved straight into the other protagonist's story

I would have tried to read on, but the lack of editing kept bugging me so much that I have no patience to go through FSM only knows how many more chapters of exposition to finally meet the other protagonist (ok, I checked. He appears in chapter 14)

Decent plot

Overall the story had a decent plot with an ending that was different than expected. Unfortunately, there were far too many errors in the book that made it seem like an editor never reviewed anything. The first quarter of the book also drug on with the FMC being quite insufferable. While the ending made up for the beginning by some, it didn’t make up for it enough to make reading any future books worthwhile. Between the errors and the slow burn the book really should have been a DNF, but I pushed through to really give it a chance to find that it only mildly improved.

major twists at the end

**Spoilers**

The book was okay for me, but I guess just something about killing off your fated mate wasn’t for me. Especially since he didn’t want to travel to her home, although he was a pushover and was seen as a weak Alpha from his pack mates, I’m glad he finally stood up for himself until the end and didn’t give into her demands. But will he reborn? The way his pack Elder spoke to him made me question that.

Whoa, this book is really hard to put down! It has lots of twist you don’t see coming. I yelled at the book I don’t know how many times and I got teary eyed. She did a wonderful job portraying the characters! I have a love/hate with them! Lol 😂. Can’t wait to see what happens next!

This one was a difficult finish, the MC's needed some more guts, she was bratty, rude and couldn't stand by her decisions for half a page and the guy was a wimp who shamed his mate for her past sexual experiences.... like that was a rule.

This book had so many intriguing details and twist and turns that I couldn't help but keep turning the pages. The ending was mind-blowing and definitely unexpected. If you love fantasy with forbidden romance, fated mates, wolf shifters, witches, and dragons this book should be on your TBR.

I wanted so much more from this book. The setup was great, but it really left me feeling confused. I feel it had more potential than it ended living up to.
