Disclaimer to start with. I never have been interested in reading or watching zombie books and stories. This is mainly a book about a war on zombies. I still do not want to read zombie books and stories, but I did read this one. This is not one of the better books in this series and I rate it at three stars instead of the usual four. The rating is down more based on the topic and the characters not being quite true to themselves. I am curious to read the next book in the series. I am wondering if Ross Buzzell is not as good a writer as Yanz and Buzzell together. This the first solo Buzzell book I have read, and the only ones by both, have been this series. This is not enough sampling to really tell. The series this is part of is good is just I have problems with this book.
The usual stuff with killing off the bugs, and getting Mark fixed up and then his recovery, but after that the story focuses on the mutated fungus and the ship it infects, for far too long. Think Alien, but with more than one of them. In the end it's so drawn out, I skim a lot of it The ending is interesting, want to see how that works out and the real surprise is the new ally they have
I think every reader needs to start doing this to force authors to write a quick Recap chapter, which readers can skip if they remember, and those who don't won't stop reading the series.
Dire straits make for strange bedfellows. They aren't buddies. They aren't friends. But they sure make for a fun ride battling some ewww-gross consequences of the Bandit crew's past actions.
