Wes and his dad go to the harvest festival to get some special fertilizer, Wes sees a strange tent called Madam L's Fortunes and Wishes. There’s something wrong with this year’s pumpkin patch at the Spenser farm. Wes just knows it, but he can’t figure out what is really happening. Maybe it’s that strange fertilizer his parents used this year. Maybe it’s something magical that’s actually happening. Or maybe it’s something sinister that’s been hiding in the patch all this time.
Whatever is happening, Wes is the only one who can discover the truth. But can he save not only his farm, but also the entire town of Dark Burrow all before the pumpkins are carved on Halloween night?
IT CAME FROM THE PUMPKIN PATCH is book 3 in the CREEPY JEEPERS series, written in the vein of spooky middle grade horror anthology series like GOOSEBUMPS, BONE CHILLERS, and the best of the SHIVERS series from the 1990’s. Each book tells another story from the town of Dark Burrow, weaving tales of danger, suspense, and horror.
J. Peter W. masterfully tells this story of pumpkin patch horror. The characters here are strongly written, with lots of motivation, character depth, and moving moments that really makes a reader root for them. Wes is a really well written character who tugs at your heartstrings and is also the kind of hero that’s so much fun to follow and see what they will do next, but never falls into being a Gary Stu who can just do all the things he tries to do.
There are also numerous action scenes that are legitimately terrifying. There is a sense of claustrophobia that tightens around the whole plot that keeps the reader wondering what will happen next. There are plenty of scares and moments that are dripping with dread.
Honestly, if you are a fan of spooky middle grade horror anthologies and have read a lot of the ones from the 1990’s, CREEPY JEEPERS is here to scratch the itch, because it is one of the best modern middle grade horror series I have read in a long time. This is the perfect spooky season read filled with pumpkins, Jack O’Lanterns, and everything you could want from a Halloween read! I can’t wait to read the rest of this irresistible series!
