Cads & Capers: A Pride and Prejudice Variation Duology

Rate this book
Cads & Capers is a Pride and Prejudice Variation Duology comprised of two previously published Austen-inspired novellas.

Wits & Wagers by Amy D'OrazioFITZWILLIAM DARCY, FEELING OVERWHELMING DESPAIR at the finality of Elizabeth Bennet's rejection at Hunsford, decides he must accept the fate that duty has dictated to him--a fate which includes proposing to his cousin Miss Anne de Bourgh. His cousins Colonel Fitzwilliam and Viscount Saye are aghast at Darcy's decision and do their best to thwart him, with cajolery, threats, and bribery all failing to move him. Saye is certain that there is no hope left for him, until the colonel suggests a daring one last chance to reunite Darcy and Elizabeth, and one last opportunity for love.

ELIZABETH BENNET, ELATED BY HER SISTER’S ENGAGEMENT to Mr Bingley, is undeniably perplexed when Colonel Fitzwilliam, Lord Saye, and Mr Darcy all appear in Hertfordshire for the wedding festivities. Even more baffling are the actions of the men, alternately vexing, charming, and in some ways, endearing.

BUT NOTHING IS AS IT SEEMS in this battle of wits, where the stakes are true love, in Hertfordshire. Everyone has their wagers placed, waiting to see whose plan for happily ever after will prevail.

The Cad, the Couch, and the Cut Direct by Jessie LewisA year after his hopes of securing Elizabeth Bennet’s heart are dashed, Fitzwilliam Darcy brings his sister Georgiana to London for her first Season. Believing he could never make Elizabeth love him—for so she emphatically told his aunt—he is mortified to come upon her while visiting an art exhibition with his sister. He makes a hasty escape before he can be seen. Or so he thinks.

Having survived a disastrous confrontation with Lady Catherine de Bourgh, Elizabeth Bennet is devastated, yet not surprised, when Mr Darcy never returns to Hertfordshire, for she had just come to understand her love for him. Determined to put him out of her mind, she accedes to her mother’s instruction to go to London and find a husband.

The highlight of the London Season is an art exhibition, where everybody who is anybody is determined to be seen, Elizabeth and her aunt included. Alas, it is also the location of a couch upon which much gossip is shared, confidences are overheard, and misunderstandings and mischief are created in abundance, as Darcy and Elizabeth soon discover first hand. Will they be able to untangle the web of misapprehension they are tangled in before one of them accepts someone new?

Two for one!
I finished listening to the newly-released audiobook for this duology in the early morning hours. Amy D’Orazio’s Wits and Wagers and Jessie Lewis’ The Cad, the Couch, and the Cut Direct provide almost nine hours of pure entertainment. The narration by Ian Pringle is very good. I did note a few mispronounced words, but his voice and performance are definitely commendable.

My reviews of each book can be found on their respective individual posts.

Two hilarious stories!

The first story features Lord Saye, who has to be my favorite non-canon character any JAFF author has ever written. That should be all I need to say, but for those who are not familiar with him, expect increased hilarity in any story including his lordship.

The second story is made up of one amusing misunderstanding piled on another, involving Elizabeth and Darcy (and Kitty, Fitzwilliam, Georgiana, and a host of new characters) in hilarity of the acutest kind.

Cats and Capers- Excellent fun

Great job on Wits and Wagers! Love Sage! Wonderful banter.
Amy does not know how to write a bad story.
All of her's are very entertaining!

The Cad, the Couch and the Cut Direct!
A fun, round about going in circles.
A new sweet acquaintance and true misunderstandings.

Loved, loved, loved. Listened to the audiobook and I was diverted for hours as I toiled in the garden. Clever story. Witty dialogue and smart prose. Likable characters. Excellent pacing. Easy to recommend.

A great pair of stories, both full of fun and plots. The second in particular is a truly Shakespearean epic of misunderstanding, failed and accidental meetings and final happy endings. Thoroughly enjoyable!

excellent read!

While the storyline is complicated enough, it is not far-fetched in the least. Both stories were very enjoyable. The characters were well developed and in keeping with Jane Austen’s version of Elizabeth and Darcy. I definitely recommend this book.

Wonderfully filled with capers….

Unbelievable happenings, incidences and humor are found in every paragraph. A comedy of errors with much confusion. In the end, though, hearts connect and reunite where they belong!

I love every book with Lord Saye in it!! I love a brooding Mr. Darcy and the mad capers of the Colonel and his brother. We should all have cousins like this!
