Have you started this new series yet? Sweet bejeebers, this is an edge-of-your-seat adventure/fated mate/paranormal romance like no other!
Catalina is one of the Duvall sisters who have taken up the mantle of the Grimm files to protect the city of New Orleans. Being Fae and human-born has allowed her and her sisters to have a bit more freedom within the Fae world.
Riker is a prehistoric, short-faced bear shifter who works as a detective on the NOPD. Not only does he not particularly like other people or shifters, but to top it off, the Fae heads the list with dislike and distrust.
The veil between worlds is weakening again. A high-ranking politician has died under strange and unexplainable circumstances. All this, and these two not only have to work together but are fated mates.
This is another edge-of-your-seat read that I was unable to put down. With two more sisters, I can only imagine how much more intense it will become within the City of New Orleans before this series ends. What a thrill ride!

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. Catalina is half fae like her sisters who is meant to protect the veil and thr city of new orleans. Ryker is an ancient bear shifter detective who has a hate on for anything fae and when he is forced to work with one...it's not gonna be pretty. Catalina is summoned by the fae council and they order her to wof for them. Well she puts them in their place but it's her aunt at the table that has her reeling. Catalina and Ryker team up and talk to the local supernatural bartender who knows all. There is some a shapeshifer demon who is doing damage. Catalina is ambushed by purebred fae who means to take her out but the kicker is that her aunt is involved. When the protections on their mansion are gone and they are attacked...their aunt confirms her involvement. It's time to bring the bad guys down.

THIS IS WHERE WE MAKE OUR STAND

“New Orleans was a city of secrets, and the Duvall sisters were amongst its most dangerous. The girls were ready, trained from childhood to wield magic like a weapon, their curvy bodies trained and honed into fighting machines. But there was one thing they hadn’t prepared for—their fated mates.”

“You won’t know your full power until you find him. And when you do—everything will change.”
“The Grimm Files were more than a curse. They were a prophecy. One that could either save the world—or destroy it.”

The series will revolve around the four Duvall sisters, who are fae—Phoenix, Geneva, Savannah, and Catalina. They will share a stately home with their late mother’s sister, Aunt Maeve. The story will include good versus evil, magic, shifters, and demons. When heavy demonic activity is more prevalent in New Orleans, they know that they must act swiftly, not only for supernatural beings but for humans too.

While the story will have an appearance by all the sisters, and their Aunt, this tale mainly revolves around Catalina, and Detective Zane Riker, Arctodus bear shifter. When they are together, they seem to enjoy slinging insults, but when push comes to shove, they team up with one another and are a powerful weapon.

Riker: Well, if it isn’t my favorite sparkplug.
Catalina: I thought you knew better than to get involved in anything magical, Riker.
Riker: You know me, can’t resist a good inter-dimensional crime spree. Word on the street is your shapeshifter’s got bigger plans than just running the local syndicates.
Catalina: What have you heard?

“New Orleans might prove to be the perfect backdrop for their unconventional alliance. She, a lightning faery with a fierce reputation for demon hunting, and he, a prehistoric bear with an uncanny ability to transform into a rugged and imposing cop, were an unlikely duo.”

The story will have the murder of a prominent local politician surrounded by dark magic. A call from the fae council for Catalina—and surprises abound. Add in the good, the bad, and the evil, with demons rising and the Duvall sisters fighting against them and trying to protect the human world from the underworld. Learning that there is a greater power, growing in strength, and aided by someone that should be friend not foe. It will bring together supernatural beings working in tandem with one another to defeat it—or die trying.

I liked Riker and Catalina together. While they act like they would rather not be around each other, they spar verbally, but the heat of passion has them drawn to each other. The chemistry between them is explosive—but once they are together, they realize that they are fated to one another.
Riker: You’re mine faery. I don’t know that I trust you, but you’re mine. Mine to protect, mine to use, and mine to pleasure.

Catalina: You can’t claim me, bear. I will never be yours.
Riker: You’re a force of nature, Catalina, just like me.
Catalina: I’m nothing like you, Riker. However, you may be the first one to make me question my solitary ways. But don’t get too comfortable. I still have demons to hunt.
Riker: And I have criminals to catch. But perhaps we can make an exception for each other, just this once.

“They may have different backgrounds and beliefs, but he was now convinced they were mates, bound together by something far older than shifters or fae, nothing would change that.”

The story was a page-turning, action-packed tale of good versus evil. Of a bear shifter and a fae joining forces to infiltrate the Crescent Nexus. To destroy the enemy, they are going to have to trust one another, enter the stronghold of the demonic, and work together. As fated mates, they must rely on each other, their emotions, and their strengths to win. It helps when you have a joining of every magical being—shifters, fae, vampires—anyone with power was pulled into the fight. But, what happens when this latest event is over—what will become of Riker and Catalina?

“There is no other reason for the way we’re feeling right now. You didn’t want to like me, and I sure didn’t want to like you, but I think the bond between us forced us to see each other in a different light.”

3.75stars—MAGIC UNBOUND is the second instalment in Delta James’ contemporary, adult THE GRIMM FILES erotic, paranormal/ fantasy series focusing on the Duvall sisters. This is demon hunting/ lightning faery Catalina Duvall, and bear shifter / NOLA Detective Zane Riker’s story line. MAGIC UNBOUND can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.

Told from dual omniscient third person perspectives (Catalina and Riker) MAGIC UNBOUND once again, follows in the wake of a series of supernatural murders. Someone or something is killing the people and the supernatural of New Orleans, and Detective Zane Riker has been partnered with lightning faery Catalina Duvall but Zane Riker struggles to trust more supernatural beings but most especially the fae who are known to to be untrustworthy. When Catalina is called to the faery realm, she begins to suspect a traitor in the family, a traitor who is targeting our story line heroine. As the walls between the realms begins to weaken, Riker and Catalina must work together in an effort to stop the complete collapse before it is too late.

The world building focuses on the hunt for a killer; a supernatural killer whose shifting abilities is not natural, who has employed the use of technology to destroy the world.

The relationship between Riker and Catalina begins acrimoniously. Riker doesn’t like working with other paranormal beings, and his inability to trust threatens the struggling investigation but forced together for work means the discovery that their attraction to one another is fated by magic. The lone $ex scene is passionate .

The secondary and supporting characters include the return of Catalina’s sisters: Savannah, Phoenix and her mate Griff Broussard; bartender Finn O’Riley, Aunt Maeve and Captain Evelyn Moreau.

MAGIC UNBOUND is a story of power and control, betrayal and madness, magic and murder, acceptance and love. The fast paced premise is entertaining; the romance is subtle but fated; the characters are desperate and determined.

Magic unbound is the second installment of the Grimm Files Series. The story follows Catalina Duvall (1 of 4 sisters), a lightning faery and demon hunter, as she investigates a surge in dark magic and the emergence of a powerful shapeshifter. The story introduces Detective Zane Riker, an Arctodus bear-shifter who reluctantly partners with Catalina to investigate a murder connected to the supernatural world with the rise in demon activity.

They end up in the The Thorny Rose and during and attack on the club by cloaked figures wielding dark magic, Catalina and Riker's partnership blossoms into a passionate, yet forbidden, romance. The investigation leads them on a journey to Cipher that's risking big secrets of the lore and humans. There's huge twist with someone very close to Catalina and her sisters and causes them to lose magic. There is a bit of a cliffhanger which to be expected because of the ongoing nature of the series.

The story moves quickly, keeping the reader engaged with constant action, twists, and turns. Catalina is a strong and independent protagonist, while Riker’s initial skepticism towards the supernatural world gradually gives way to acceptance and even respect for Catalina’s abilities. The supporting characters are also well-developed and add depth to the story

The author creates a believable and immersive supernatural world within the familiar setting of New Orleans (which is a commonly used city for this). The descriptions of the Fae Quarter and the Undercity are particularly striking.

BUT the book is tropey like forbidden romance between a fae and and a human/shifter, the hidden supernatural world, and the battle against an all-powerful evil. It can also be a little predictable. BUT honestly that's the fun of it I think even it's a little much at certain moments.

Magic Unbound is an enjoyable read for fans of paranormal romance and urban fantasy. The fast-paced plot, engaging characters, and vivid world-building make it a page-turner.

It was an ok read, but not one of Delta James’s best efforts.

I think this is supposed to be an enemies to lovers story, but enemies is putting a bit too strongly. They start out somewhat antagonistic, but not really enemies, and of course proceed to hot and heavy in the course of the story. The development of their attraction seem to me to go too quickly. I know this is a novella, so things have to move fast, but it just seemed too sudden.

I also found it kind of annoying that Catalina falls for one of the oldest tricks in the book, the ‘I need to talk to you but come alone’ ploy. It’s so obvious. Maeve’s treachery was clearly hinted at from the first time she appears, and Catalina should have been more aware of it, and taken precautions, rather than ignoring it. Also, if Maeve wanted an artifact from the warehouse, it only makes sense for her to summon Catalina if the purists who attacked her were already there guarding the warehouse, and she needed to distract them. But nowhere is it indicated that they were guards. If that was the case, there should have been some reference to them being guards. And the fight scene suffered from the trope of five attackers taking turns, the others hanging back while one is defeated, instead of all rushing the heroine at the same time. It’s just as annoying in print as in film. Sensible villains would all attack at once.

I had problems with Maeve in general. Her treachery seemed insufficiently motivated, and her change of heart even more so.

A lot of the things that bothered me about this book stemmed from its length, or rather shortness. Everything happened too fast, and nothing was sufficiently developed. If James had made this a full length novel, I think I would have liked it a lot better. As it stands, I was underwhelmed. Delta, you can do so much better.

Thank you to Book Sirens, Delta James, and the publisher for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

3.5 stars

In honor of spooky season, I thought I’d pick up a paranormal romance and give this one a try.

Catalina is fae with the power to command lightening. She’s protected her city from demonic forces, but when a surge of dark magic threatens the barriers between the realms she’s forced to team up with Detective Zane Riker. As they work together to keep the barriers in tact they uncover Cipher - a terrifying blend of magic and machine. Despite the tension between the two as they clash on everything there’s an undeniable spark that challenges their dynamic. In order to defeat Cipher, they must trust each other before it’s too late.

This one starts off with a bang and instantly grabs your attention. While it is the second book of a series, it can be read as a stand alone. Because it’s a novella, there isn’t much time for the relationship to develop and it feels a bit abrupt when they have their first intimate scene. I would’ve enjoyed more banter and more relationship development between the two of them as they get to know each other more, but that’s the nature of this format.

Overall, if you’re looking for something short and action packed with some spice, I’d recommend this one.

Long ago, Charlotte Grimm lived the stories that her brothers, Jacob & Wilhelm wrote about. That was because Charlotte was part fae. Now, her descendants continue to fight against demons, rogues, rogue factions, etc. in New Orleans. The Duvall sisters each got their own hand written Grimm Files on their 16th Birthday. The first book covered Phoenix (fire element). This one covers Catalina (water element). That leaves Savannah & Geneva. Things are going totally haywire with much mayhem in New Orleans supernatural world and it is bleeding over into the mundane one. The only thing the sisters won’t ever be ready for are their fated mates. Phoenix has hers. In this book Cat finds hers. As more and more weird things begin to happen, the sisters work together and patrol almost nightly. Geneva is the assistant ME (medical examiner) and so she usually works on the supernatural stuff. Detective Riker knows Phoenix’s mate, Detective Griff Broussard, but doesn’t really like other supernaturals, especially the fae. Forced to work together, Riker and Cat learn a lot about each other while fighting off foes and trying to protect the people around them. I found this book to be funny, steamy, aggravating, scary, great fight scenes and a bunch of other emotions. It was a roller coaster ride of epic proportions and the fun isn’t over and I can’t wait to read the next book. I cried a few times too as there are a few parts that blew my mind.

Magic Unbound by Delta James is the second installment of the Grimm Files series wherein the story follows Catalina Duvall (1 of 4 sisters), a lightning faery and demon hunter, as she investigates a surge in dark magic and the emergence of a powerful shapeshifter. Meanwhile, it also introduces Detective Zane Riker, an Arctodus bear-shifter who reluctantly partners with Catalina to investigate a murder connected to the supernatural world with the rise in demon activity.

I also loved how the author wrote these series that talks about how an individual must honor their responsibilities given to them despite hardships and many challenges that comes their way. The gift of family and friendships which serves as their inspiration to do well in their given tasks.

It is indeed a page-turner kind of story even though it only contains 90+ pages, you are well-entertained by the characters through their antics, wittiness, banters and resolutions on how to deal with their present problem in the supernatural world.

Kudos to the author for writing this story. It makes my heart flutter whenever I read about how the protagonists found their way on love, though the romance was only too subtle.

This is Book 2 of The Grimm Files series. The story starts with Catalina, a fae warrior with lightning powers, teaming up with Detective Zane Riker to face a growing magical threat in New Orleans. While the premise had me hooked, the execution left me feeling a bit underwhelmed.

I loved seeing the bond between the Duvall sisters grow even stronger. The glimpses of Phoenix and Griff were a nice touch and added some warmth to the story.

That said, I was really excited for this book after loving the first one, but it didn’t hit the same way for me. The story felt too similar to Book 1, with just a few changes, which made it less exciting. I also felt like the chemistry between Catalina and Riker had so much potential if it had more time to build.

The stakes didn’t feel as intense this time around either, which was disappointing because I loved how high the tension was in the first book. Everything just felt a bit rushed.

Even though this one didn’t fully wow me, I still love the mix of magic and New Orleans vibes, and I’m curious to see where the series goes next. Here’s hoping the next book brings back the spark!

Thank you to the author and BookSirens for the book in exchange for my honest review.

This book was non-stop action and drama from the jump. The main characters, Zane Riker and Catalina Duvall, couldn't be more different. Him a bear Shifter and her a half-fae demon huntress. Oh, they sometimes overlapped in their pursuit of freeing New Orleans of magical or supernatural rifraff, but they were far from chummy. In fact, Zane did not trust Catalina one little bit, no fae actually (except maybe Guineva). When a new set of gruesome killings started spreading like wildfire, they were teamed up to get it solved by whatever means necessary. When a mart machine, part AI, part... whatever named Ciper turned up at the center of the mix the veil was in serious jeopardy. Would these two put personal feelings and grudges aside? With a traitor in their midst, would they be able to stop the inevitable? This book will have you holding your breath while Zane, Catalina, and the rest of the supernatural community rally to keep their world safe. Don't be left out of the action!

I am fortunate to have received a gift copy of this book and highly recommend it to others. Happy Reading Y'all 📚

This quick book has complex, interesting world building in a New Orleans, where supernaturals live alongside humans. Catalina is a half-fae demon hunter with the power to fight with lightening. When black magic surges in New Orleans, she and a grumpy shifter police detective (Zane) have to work together. They discover that a diabolical mastermind is planning to rip down barriers that have protected the uneasy status quo in New Orleans, and that Catalina’s Aunt has a connection to that plan. This fast-moving story has mysteries, battles and some adult heat as Catalina and Zane also discover they’re destined to be together. The book can be read as a stand-alone, although it was helpful to have read the first story in The Grimm Files series (“Magic Unleashed”) for additional background about Catalina’s sisters and her family’s role. I dropped one star because of unanswered questions in the plot (for example, Catalina’s Aunt is observed taking an unknown magical item from a warehouse, but we never see that item again). Another fascinating addition to Grimm Files, wonderful characters and story scenario
I have to say that I have been totally captivated by the Grimm Files, they have beew wonderfully written and the characters have had a great deal of thought put into them which has made the story captivating reading.
The stories have been filled with lots of action and intrigue and I am aware that I do not want to spoil the reads by giving away too much. The Duvall sisters are once again having to join forces as they come up against their mates but they will not be swayed they stand together.
The aunt is something of a problem and cannot be completely trusted in the story however Catalina and Riker are not only the perfect combination and sisters they care and they love and with this on their side how can they simply lose.
I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to reading any future publications; keep up all the wonderful writing.

This is the second book. It is not necessary to read the first, but it would be helpful to get the feel of the backstory and the other characters.

The story is about Catalina and Riker.

You learn about Riker's dislike of the supernatural especially fae and magic. I loved how as he is forced to work with Catalina his perspective of her and her kind change slowly. Riker is fighting his own demons .

They work well - his brute strength and her magical finesse- fighting a new/existing threat.

Loved the twists especially with the aunt Mauve, the captain and Cipher.

Loved the splash of humor.

Action from page one. Steam to the eventual romance,

I loved that each of the sisters so far have had to fight a new front/threat in keeping New Orleans safe.

Can't wait to see who next will find their fated mate.

Another Demonic Fight In New Orleans
A new series about the four Duvall sisters, part fae, part human, living in New Orleans and fighting demons and other evil to keep the city safe. Each book is a separate HEA of one of the sisters and each has her own element in which resides her power.
The second story is about the youngest sister, Catalina, with her element light(ning) and another NOPD detective, Zane, a prehistoric bear shifter. Through their antagonistic feelings they have to find a way to work together and what it means to be together for their successive power to grow into its fullest potential.
In this book there rises confusion about the Fae Council and the position the sisters’ aunt Maeve is holding. To me there was some serious information withheld and I wonder/hope the next book(s) will give more clearance about this.

Catalina Duvall is one of the four fae/human sisters who reside in the city of New Orleans and have sworn to protect the city and all of its residents from any threats. The murder of a high-profile citizen will have her teaming up with bear shifter and New Orleans police detective Zane Riker. An evil being named Cipher, a blend of technology and dark magic is determined to destroy the barriers between the human world and the fae realm with every intention of ruling both realms.

A short steamy paranormal fated mates romance between two characters who quickly realize that they are much more than just colleagues. Plenty of exciting action, magic, shifters, fae, and some interesting twists with a happily ever after. A fascinating and well written cast of characters that kept me engaged in this book from the first page to the last. I recommend this book to other readers.

I am hooked on the Grimm Files! Magic Unbound is the second book in the series and it features Catalina Duvall, one the four Duvall sisters who are also half fae with specific magical powers. Their goal is to protect New Orleans from demonic forces. Catalina's power is lightning, and she certainly needs it in this battle.

Detective Zane Riker doesn't like anyone in the supernatural, shifter, and magical world, but there are evil forces trying to take over New Orleans and he is forced to work with Catalina to destroy the demons. Interestingly, Zane is a bear shifter, and he has his own struggles with who he is.

It's a fascinating story of good versus evil, and the thin line between hate and love. Throw in some hot romance, intense danger, and the internal battle between hate and love and you have an outstanding read. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

At 113 pages it is both too short and too long.
Magic Unbound by Delta James is the second book in The Grimm Files series.
This would have been a 4 star read if there weren't some really dumb parts. I found the same frustrations in the first book. Five women living in the same house and yet it seems no one talks to each other, especially when they are all supposed to be working together to protect the city.
What I fund to be the most egregious example is Catalina finding out that her Aunt Maeve had betrayed her and her sisters but never once does it cross her mind to pick up the phone and clue them in on the betrayal?
The aspect of each of the four sisters finding their fated mates as all well and good but there is no spark, no tension, no passion. The words are there, just no emotion is evoked.
I borrowed this book from KU and my recommendation is 50/50. Read it, just know what to expect is less than Ms. James at her best.

This was pretty good. There was a lot of action and suspense. I actually wish it had been longer. I had so many questions.

How Maeve get involved? I would have loved to hear the backstory on that. What was up with River's antagonism toward Broussard? They were both shifters. I have several others, but I would have to do a spoiler alert.

I did enjoy all of the descriptions in the book. The sights and smells really came to life. The colors of the magic from the fae to the dark, swirling clouds, to the smoky stench were truly vivid.

I wish there had been more about Riker and Catalina. I didn't feel as much of a connection as usual. I thought it might have been because they spent so much time fighting dark magic, they never really got to connect. At least, I wasn't feeling the same level of chemistry.

New Orleans - under attack again! Catalina Duvall, of fae lineage and magic, must work with Zane Riker, a bad-tempered bear shifter, to fight forces of dark magic threatening the fabric of all the realms, including human and fae. Catalina had pretty strong walls against interacting with others, except her sisters and aunt. Riker had similar walls against most others, especially magic users and fae. However, they soon realize that fighting on the same side makes them stronger than fighting each other. Despite a surprise betrayal, Riker and Catalina join with the other Duvall sisters to repel the latest threat. The more they work together, the more they break down the walls. Good story, some heat. Who will be the next Duvall to meet their fated mate? Will New Orleans survive?

This is book two in the Grimm Files. Catalina and Zane Riker have an action-packed story. The romance is really an afterthought, but it's not missed with all of the action. You get to hear about old alpha/clan friends. The baddie is a stronger bad than the last one. There's a big betrayal that hopefully isn't forgiven anytime soon. Catalina, I felt, was stronger than her sister Phoenix. She's a one-person army. The way she handled the Fae council was masterful. Unfortunately, there's not a lot of interaction between the sisters. Riker is a shifter who basically has issues with shifters (yes, he's a shifter), fae, and magic. Somehow the two work well together. This one is full of twists, betrayals, more supernatural creatures, demons, action. Delta’s new style of writing short, fast-paced books definitely make for a quick and entertaining read.

Unfortunately, in my opinion, some books (series) just need more pages to explore the storyline and get to know the characters. The Grimm Files series falls into this category. So much is going on with different realms, mysteries, lots of characters and romantic developments.

We meet Detective Riker he isn’t a fan of humans or supernatural beings, and he doesn’t like or want to partner with Catalina Duvall. The story goes from ‘I don’t like you’ to days later ‘I lover you’ without much character interaction other than some sizzling action between the sheets and fighting together to save the city. I’d prefer a little more story to go along with the battle scenes and sizzling rendezvous.

3.5 stars - This is the second book in the series of the Duval sisters. Trouble continues to brew in New Orleans and this time we get to see Catalina fight against the dark forces and develop a relationship with Riker, another detective and shifter. Riker is at first very prejudiced towards the fae but seems to change his tune quite quickly. Catalina, similar to the previous book, is the one however who holds out on fully accepting their relationship. I enjoyed the book and look forward to reading the rest of the series. Why not 5 stars? Because although the story was engaging, filled with action, betrayal and interesting characters, I found that again there was a bit too much repetition for my liking.

Riker and Catalina. Shes a Duvall sister living in New Orleans. Shes Magic. She also was given her Grimm file on her sixteenth birthday. Handed down from Charlotte Grimm the sister of the Grimm Brothers. Now that they have their file and weapons they not only hunt demons they also hunt their fated mate so that their powers will fully be realized. Zane Riker is a detective. A prehistoric Bear. Charlotte has been called in as a consultant to work his latest case. He doesnt like it one bit. Another Duvall sister story well written and full of suspense, magic, action, trust issues and the banter between these two is so full of tension they just dont dance on that thin line between love and hate they destroy it. If you have'nt read Delta James before you dont know what you're missing.

The second book in this series did not disappoint. Evil is coming to New Orleans and it will take everything to stop it. This story is full of deception, evil forces and even though Catalina and Riker, try to ignore it, fated mates. A Fae-Human and a shifter are both tasked to work together to stop the evil rising in the Big Easy, but it will not be enough… until they realize they are fated mates and are more powerful together than alone.

It was great that the author teased in a mention or two of the Alpha of New Orleans - none other than Jean-Michel Gautier (from the Wayward Mate series). Loved that she did that.

This is a great story. Now I impatiently wait for the next book in the series.

Magic Unbound is the 2nd in the series of the Grimm Files. The fate of New Orleans hangs in the balance for both human and paranormal beings if evil wins. This book is full of good and evil, mystery, suspense, innocent and all knowing, demon hunters and demons the like they have never imagined before. This is Riker and Catalina's story and they do not get along but find that they are stronger if together. This book is full of energy and you be enticed from first page to last. As the Duvall sisters have been trained to fight against evil so have they been told that they will change and be stronger with their mates. The chemistry between these two is epic. This series of stories are more novella length and are quick reads.

Catalina Duvall is one of four sisters who were raised as demon hunters. They use their fae powers to defeat demons. But they are now up against a stronger force than they have ever fought before.

Zane Riker, a bear shifter and police detective, doesn't like the fae people. He despises the fact that his boss is forcing him to work with Catalina on the newest case. What's even worse is the fact that he realizes he needs Catalina's help.

Will they be able to rise up against the dark forces that will tear down all the walls between realms? Will they discover the connection between the two of them? Come read this fast paced story to find out.

"Magic Unbound" by Delta James is a decent continuation of her paranormal universe but lacks the gripping pull found in some of her other works. The story is set against the rich, mystical backdrop of New Orleans, pairing Catalina, a lightning-wielding fae warrior, with Zane, a gritty detective who despises magic. While the premise of their forced partnership amid supernatural chaos holds promise, the chemistry between them feels somewhat underdeveloped, and the pacing doesn’t quite deliver the high stakes hinted at in the blurb.

The supernatural elements are engaging, but the story doesn’t fully capture the suspense it aims for. Overall, it’s a passable read for fans of paranormal romance, though not as compelling as other novels by Delta James.

Catalina is a half fae half human woman who, along with her sisters live in New Orleans. New Orleans has a lot of supernatural beings which they work to hide from the humans. The sisters have been told that they will come into their powers when they find theit fated mates.

Now, they are dealing with a rift in the veil between the supernatural and human worlds. They need to keep it closed, to protect the human realm.

Detective Zane Riker is a shifter and a detective in New Orleans also dealing with the supernatural criminals. Their worlds have been parallel for awhile, but now they must work together to save the realms.

This is their story. I highly recommend this story and it's predecessor.

This is the second book in the Grimm Files series, which finds Catalina Duvall whose fairy magic includes lightning bolts investigating the dangerous demon events which have been happening with more and more deadly upheavals, including a local politician killed in a gruesome and very unnatural manner in one of lesser travelled New Orleans districts… Zane Riker is a human-extinct bear shifter who has been investigating these same problems in New Orleans and just got paired by the police chief to work closely with Catalina about demon infestation… but since it's prophesy that the Duvall Sisters are even stronger when paired with their fated mates, could Zane be hers??? I voluntarily read this book which I own.
