Welcome to Evansville, a sleepy Texas town on the verge of a boom.

After growing up in a dying town, with only two restaurants, no movie theater, and no future, waitress Cassidy Simon wants out. For once, luck is on her side when the oil boom comes to South Texas. She’s determined to use it for her advantage, starting up an RV park for the oilfield workers to add to her escape fund. She’s never been out of Texas, and she’s itching for adventure.

Grady McKenna couldn’t get away from his family’s ranch fast enough when he was a teenager, but a tour in the Air Force in the Middle East is enough to convince him there’s no place like home. He’s seen the world, had his adventure. Now he’s ready to contribute to his family’s legacy in Evansville.

Naturally, the woman who draws his attention is the one intent on slipping through his fingers. How can he convince her life with him will be all the adventure she needs?

I won this book in a Goodreads Giveaway.

It was a great love story. The characters were likeable and, let's admit, Grady was loveable.

I will be sure to pass this book alone to my mom and sister. I highly recommend it to anyone that likes a good romance novel that is not filled with smut but actual emotion.

But so romantic lots of drama

I found it hard to concentrate on this story, I just wasn't pulled into it as I usually am with romance novels. The woe is me attitude of Cassidy got old quick. The I am better than everyone attitude of Sage got older even faster.
There was romance but it was so down played by all the negative attitudes of the characters that I almost didn't want to finish the book. This is not a book I will be recommending anytime soon.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️4.5 stars for Grady and Cassidy's story! This is a good read. How I wish to have someone as good as Grady McKenna. *sigh* ... Took a break from heavy fantasy reading and I am so glad to have grabbed this from Kindle. Now, I am mighty curious to read the rest of the books from the Lost In A Boom Town series. Good job MJ Fredrick!

Texas Romance with a Cowboy?

Cassidy (no,not Butch Cassidy) a Texas gal working as waitress and an RV Park owner for oilfield workers, was impatiently awaiting the time when she could escape the small Texas town and the burdens of responsibility of an alcoholic mother. Enter Grady, returning Veteran/Cowboy. Her life plans take an unexpected dramatic curve.

Cute easy read

Cute easy read. It always amazes me how easy we as women can get sucked into the "need" to take care of someone who most like could take care of themselves if given half a chance.

This was just what I needed at the right time. A sweet country read, not too much drama, just two people who found their way to each other and in kind, realised that the right person is worth changing everything for.

World Building: This novel takes place in Evansville, Texas, a small little town that is starting to grow due to an oil boom that is making the town flooded with people. This novel definitely showcased the small town vibe! Everyone knew everybody else and also knew everyone’s business.
Characters: The main characters in this story are Grady McKenna and Cassidy Simon. Grady wanted out of his small town at any cost, so when the opportunity to serve his country came about he jumped at it. But after serving a tour in the Air Force all he wants to do is come home and put roots down. Working his family’s ranch is no small feat since he left them high and dry years ago but he’s willing to put in the hard work if his family will give him the chance. He not only wants his legacy but a good woman to share it with and one in town catches his eye. Even though he is warned away from Cassidy Simon time and time again, he can’t help but want to break down her walls and show her this town is worth staying in. Can he convince her that they could have the most wonderful life here? Or will Cassidy stick to her guns and high tail it out of their small town as soon as she can? Growing up with an alcoholic mother is hard. And it’s even harder having the town thinking that the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. Cassidy is just saving her money and biding her time till she can leave this godforsaken place and all these people behind. But one stands out from the crowd. Grady McKenna just got back from serving and he is looking better than ever but the first rule of ditching this place is staying away from any and everyone who could make her stay. Can Cassidy stay away from Grady long enough to get her money and get the hell out of dodge? Or will he surprise her and make her want to stay in this small town just to stay with him?
Plot: This novel is first and foremost a sweet romance. There were a ton of side stories going on with the secondary characters that was woven in nicely with the main characters.
Writing: This story is told in third person point of view of Grady and Cassidy. This is the first novel in the Lost in a Boom Town series and does not end in a cliffhanger.
Curb Appeal: This cover is so cute! I love the colors and the boots, it really does scream small country town to me! The blurb just sums up their story perfectly! It does leave out all the juicy meaty parts but it gives the reader just enough to be engaged and the curiosity to know more!
Ultimately: This was a sweet read that had a lot more drama from secondary characters than I was anticipating. Grady was the sweetest cowboy and Cassidy was a woman who made a plan to go after her dreams. All in all, if you are in the mood for a hero who is pulling out all the stops to get his woman, and a heroine who just needs a little tender love and care then come check out Waltz Back to Texas!!!

Cassidy and Grady have a great story together in "Waltz Back to Texas". Grady returns from overseas in the military and seems to be immediately taken with Cassidy in the small town where they both grew up. Cassidy is stuck in small town Texas because of her mother and her drunken ways, and all she wants is to LEAVE while Grady is here to stay!

I loved how confident Grady was in going after what he wanted - no wishy/washy, "can you pass her a note", does she love me kind of storyline. He decided he wanted to get to know her, and he started going to eat lunch at her restaurant every day so that he could interact with her. I LOVED how he tried to ask her out in front of his sister, who was a complete SNOB who said she wasn't good enough for him. But he didn't care, he asked her out anyway - there's a man with confidence.

He continues to show confidence regardless of what anyone else said, including Cassidy as she struggled with whether to get involved with Grady due to what is going on in her life. I loved Grady's character.

I was as heartbroken as Grady was when Cassidy broke it off with him, and I was happy that Cassidy's mother finally convinced Cassidy that she needed to go after what she wanted in life, which was Grady. Cassidy realized that seeing that world didn't matter if she couldn't see it with the person she loved. I really liked that once she figured that out, she went and found Grady and they were able to finally be together.

I thought the story was well written and the dialogue was very natural. The characters were well developed and it made you want to "love em"/"Hate em" (as appropriate, of course). The storyline was realistic and applicable and it was easy to quickly get into the story and want to find out what happens with the characters. I look forward to reading about Sage and Hollywood in an upcoming book.

Cassidy I think has the hots for Grady but the girl won't admit it to herself, but yet she gets weirded out when her mama notices how good looking the boy is, "And he is waiting for his lunch." Cassidy shook off the creepy feeling of her mother ogling the man she was -she had been - interested in." Grady he doesn't give up when it comes to Cassidy, "he folded his arms and leaned on the counter, looking up at her. "A great idea. Our last dance was interrupted, and all I've been able to think about for days is getting back in my arms." I think Grady finally gets through Cassidy's resolve, "she stuck her tongue out at him and he leaned across the back seat to kiss her., She curved her hand over his jaw and stroked his beard. "I never thought I liked beards." The boy is really relentless when it comes to this woman and I found it damn cute, "I don't care if you need me. Hell, I don't want you to need me. I want you to want me." He eased closed and curved his hand over her cheek, his fingers stroking her temple." I thought this book was a cute read, I really enjoyed reading it.

M.J. Fredrick is skilled in weaving a tale with great characters that make you root for them from the first page. Waltz Back to Texas is a prime example of that.

Cassidy Simon wants nothing more than to get out of her small hometown where she always has to deal with rumors and pity due to her mother's reputation. Cassidy opens an RV park to add to her escape fund and has dreams of new places when Grady McKenna enters her life. What starts as a temporary relationship turns out to be something much more serious for both of them. Step by step, Grady wins Cassidy - and the reader - as he breaks down the walls Cassidy built around her heart. But when her world is turned upside down and she puts up a new wall, will even his determination be enough for her to see that he's the best adventure she could wish for?

Waltz Back to Texas shows that "plans change," and sometimes the most wonderful dream of all is right in front of us. I enjoyed this book tremendously and look forward to reading the next book in the series.

Cassidy is a tough woman--a stubborn woman, really. I think she's a little too stubborn for her own good. Yes, she's had a rough life and dreams of freedom. She craves a life full of traveling adventures--anywhere but Texas. For as long as she can remember, she has been responsible for the care of her irresponsible alcoholic mother.

Grady is a man who's back from his time overseas in the service. He's willing to be involved in running the family ranch. He develops an interest in Cassidy, but discovers that she has no desire to stick around.

It takes time, but the two do develop real feelings for each other. Cassidy breaks things off due to her desire to leave. She doesn't want Grady involved in her mess of a life, nor does she want to be stuck in Texas. When her mother screws up again, she's frustrated...to the point where she probably would like to strangle her mother!

But she comes to realize that she isn't necessarily doomed to a dull boring life. She re-evaluates her life, her choices, and her ultimate desires.

I really wanted to like this book. It received lots of great reviews so I expected something different. I found the story completely depressing. The author is obviously a great writer bc I could feel the heaviness, the stress, and embarrassment of Cassidy's life. But that's all I could feel. I kept waiting for the good stuff but it didn't come until the second to last page. By that time, I was still so stuck on Cassidy's sorrow and fear that I found it difficult to enjoy her happily ever after. I adored Grady, what a great guy. But Cassidy was just too depressing to relate to. I don't think I will read anymore of this series about Grady's siblings. His brother was a jerk and his sister a witch. Why would I want to read about them? I presume they become better people but I just hated them in this book.

Going home

Grady has come home after being in the Air Force. He wants to help on the family ranch. Cassidy is running an RV park & waitressing to save enough money to leave. She wants to see the world. Only her mother is a drunk and she can't wait to escape. Grady sees Cassidy and he wants a chance. She has all kinds of barriers but Grady is persistent. He finally gets her to go away for the weekend. Only a phone call brings her home. Her mother was badly hurt in a car accident. When she finds about her mother, all the barriers are up and she pushed Grady away. Both are hurting. Only this time, mom is pushing her out. She tells her to go travel. Cassidy realizes she'd rather travel with Grady than alone. So she goes after her man.

3.5 STARS~
Cassidy has planned for years to get out of her small South Texas hometown. Falling for one of the heirs to the largest ranch in the area was never part of the plan...but plans change. Grady is hoping to change Cassidy's mind about leaving home, but he'll have to find a way to get her to drop her walls and learn to trust him first. After being let down by her ex-boyfriend who skipped town, and grandparents who left her behind to care for her alcoholic mother, it's not easy for Cassidy to trust Grady...until she realizes that he's worked his way into her heart and she can't envision life without him; she just has to hope she hasn't pushed him away for good.

MJ Frederick writes "light" romance but she reaches the soul of her characters. It is a nice beach read with a good feel for Texas but it offers more. I admire Cassidiy's strength but I was glad when she finally decided to date Grady. I have seen her insecurities in many people who have been bullied all their lives. The story is not about bullying, but that is a key element in her development prior to the book. I need much more of the story and look forward to reading more of the Boom Town books.

Cassidy grew up in a small dying town in Texas, and all she wants is out, in spite of an irresponsible mother. Now there is an oil boom, and she uses it to make extra money in an RV park so she can escape.
Grady returned home after serving in the Air Force and is ready to take his place on the family ranch. He meets CAssidy in the restaurant she works at, and he has to convince her that life with him would never be dull.
I rated it 3 stars because Cassidy doesn't seem to have any spunk and lets her mom walk all over her until near the end of the book.

Book love!!!

The only thing you need to feel connected to this book is to have experienced the extreme need to get out of a place, so much so that you don't feel suffocated. But in the end, something holds you back, in a good way. Kind of weird. I know. But still this book ends up captivating the readers in a way that words can't describe. A sweet love story packed with responsibility, ego clashes and a coming back to home feeling! With the writing style that can make anyone fall in love with each character, this book won my heart. Okay, I do have a soft corner for sweet love story.

I enjoyed this story. It is a story about how love has its own timing and sometimes it’s not when it’s most convenient. I would classify this as a love story as opposed to the usual “romance”. There were some twists and turns and the story moved along at a good pace. Both Grady and Cassidy, as well as other characters, were complex, interesting and well defined. The characters were believable and the dialogue natural. There were a few editing issues but not enough to detract from the story. A really entertaining read.

Cassidy goal is to earn enough money to get out of this small Texas town.
Building up the RV Park for the men working on the oil rig.Trying to keep her mother from disturbing the men during the day when they sleep was a huge problem, with her alcohol and weed. A military guy is back home, to the home ranch, at eighteen he couldn’t leave fast enough. Now he wanted to stay here. Then coming into the diner where Cassidy works, he’s good looking and the brother of the girl who teased her so in school. Hurdles to overcome, nice story.

Quite simply a story of second chances, not only for Cassidy and her Mom but for Grady and his family as well.

Sweet romance without being sappy also nicely depicted small town atmosphere right down to the gossip grapevine that spreads news faster than newspapers or television. Best of all it is about finding out what is really important for ones happiness long term and not just chasing a dream but changing it instead.

Waltz Back to Texas: Love in a Boom Town 1 - R
Violence: none
Language: <95 swears, including deity
Sex: promiscuous and druggy character, descriptive kissing, roaming hands, detailed sex about 75% in that's easily skipped (just go to the end of that chapter).
A story about a very emotionally wounded, but amazingly strong and resilient h, and a cowboy with a bit of a hero complex that falls for her. I liked it, but totally could have done without all the sex.

In a tiny town in Texas, a rich, Texan rancher meets a low-income waitress. Although they feel an attraction, there are many obstacles that stand between them.

Against all odds, can they actually find a happy ever after together? This book does stand alone in the series, with an HEA, which is a big plus!

Those who like a clean and wholesome book will want to avoid this one. It strays off that path some.

A second chance at life and love for one young woman who has been supporting her drunk of a mother for years.

She mostly raised herself, or had help from her grandparents, while her mother drank herself into a daze, now she has a chance at a good man too. Will she still decide to run now that she's made enough money, or will she decide the world is best enjoyed as part of a pair?

I received this book via a Goodreads giveaway and I am glad to have had a chance to read it.

I was engaged by the story and the characters right away, which doesn't always happen for me. The author did a great job immersing me in the setting of the small Texas town, and I still wish I could go visit Sage's bar when the construction is complete! A lovely romance, and an enjoyable read.

3.5 stars because of editing and typo errors. The storyline and characters were well-done and would have rated 4 stars. The errors, however, were distracting.

This is the first in a series about a town in the midst of an oil boom that is bringing money and new businesses and people to Evansville, Tx.

Cassidy Simon is stuck in Evansville Texas taking care of her helpless alcoholic mother when all she wants to do is see the world. Enter Grady McKenna, local boy back from the military. Love comes knocking when they least expect it. The characters are all very likeable, for the most part, and I look forward to more in this series.
