This clear and thoughtful introduction to building relationships with spirit guides and angels shows listeners how helpful they can be in everything from the simplest to the most challenging of decisions and how easy they are to connect with.Spirit guides help us accomplish the Fulfill our purpose.- Make decisions that move us forward faster.- Stop sabotaging ourselves as well as judging ourselves and everyone else.- Remember that we are more than our job or house or relationship.- See ourselves as beautiful and everything in life as a gift.- Give ourselves and everybody else a break.- Keep growing until the day we leave our bodies behind.- Go beyond the life we hoped for and onto the life we’ve never even imagined. And they do all of these things when we're ready and not a nanosecond before. They also often come quietly. As the author states, If we expect help from Spirit to arrive with the sound of trumpets and blinding light, we'll overlook all the nuanced help that's delivered in small ways every day.
I grew up loving books. Some of my earliest memories are of trips to the grand old library in downtown Des Moines, where we'd pull book after book off the shelves in the children's section and carry them home with great anticipation. I still remember the feel of those books, and the smell of the pages and bindings that had been loosened and wrinkled by so many readers who loved the books as much as I did.
One of my sisters (I'm the youngest of six kids) and I had an ongoing contest to see who could read the most Newbery Award books. At the library, we'd pick up bookmarks that listed all the award winners, then we'd lose ourselves in Islands of the Blue Dolphins, Up a Road Slowly and A Wrinkle in Time.
Today, books continue to nourish me—as both a reader and author. I find that, when I write, I do exactly the same things as when I read: sink deep into a story, experience “ah-ha” moments that make me put the book down for a moment to catch my breath, and see myself and the world in new ways.
Years ago, in meditation, I suddenly had an image of myself sitting in front of a coffee table covered with books that I'd written or contributed to. This was before my first book was published, so I was VERY surprised (and intrigued!) to see those volumes, looking as if they already existed. I had the sense that writing them had been easy—that they had created themselves.
Now, several books later, I can tell you they weren't always easy:) But each had a reason for being written—-a story that needed to be told, an inspiration that insisted on being shared, a message that was determined to change the world.
I think of a book as the fulfillment of a contract between the author who follows her internal guidance, and the readers who select the book—hopefully with the same anticipation my sister and I had for those Newbery Award winners.
Books come about because, as writers and readers, we say yes to a seed of inspiration and then allow it to grow within us. "We read to know we're not alone," said C.S. Lewis’ character in Shadowlands. I’m happy, and infinitely grateful, to write for the same reason.
Great little book that gives practical advice on how to connect to the inner guidance that we all have, as well as connecting to our own individual spirit guides. A lot of this information has been written before, but it’s a great book to read as a reminder. There are practical examples, which I always think helps when reading about metaphysics and the author writes genuinely and honestly about her own life. What is really interesting is that I have absolutely no idea of how this book came into my life! I just spotted it on my bookshelf and started reading it. For the life of me I have no recollection of buying it... so that in itself made me warm to the book initially. It’s a great read, for anyone wanting to get on or already on their spiritual journey...
Recently I was asked to review Debra Landwehr Engle’s book Let Your Spirit Guides Speak: A Simple Guide for a Life of Purpose, Abundance, and Joy. I saw that she was offering interview time so I took her up on her kind offer – so at the bottom of this page is a link to a podcast where Debra and I get to discuss the nature of our Spirit Guides, how to connect with them, grow relationships with them and more.
I hope you make time to listen to the podcast – I can guarantee that if you are interested either in beginning to connect with your Spirit Guides or wanting to create a stronger relationship with them – you will learn something from this podcast and also from Debra’s book.
From Debra Landwehr Engle’s first book, The Only Little Prayer You Need, I began to use the simple prayer of “Please heal my fear-based thoughts” any time I noticed fears or anxiety rising and, by repeating that phrase, I found calmness and my fears and stresses melted away. After reading Debra’s new book, Let Your Spirit Guides Speak, I now say “Thanks to the guides” whenever I am presented with guidance or a gentle nudge of direction or told to “look up” and see a gift from nature—a butterfly floating by the window, a family of foxes playing at the edge of the woods, a hawk perched on a fence post. My copy of Let Your Spirit Guides Speak is dog-eared and highlighted on nearly every page and I know I will return to it often. Thank you, Debra (and your guides), for bringing this book into the world!
This is a good basic book, but I was looking for something more. I did learn helpful things like I should speak with them daily, not to rush things, and not be to jealous if my way of speaking to them if different from someone else's, but I was hoping for more exercises and techniques to help me learn which ways of conversing are indeed best and will work for me. I think I will definitely be reading another book or two about spirit guides to see if I can find this elsewhere.
This book showed me that I was right to follow my "inner voice" while living my life. I called it my "knowing". Whenever I didn't follow that guidance things went awry. I wasn't aware at the time that the "voice" was my spirit guides helping me. Debra Landwehr Engle's book helped me better understand where that guidance comes from and to trust even more.I now more openly talk to my spirit guides and ask for their help and guidance more frequently.
A lovely little book that does what it sets out to do:
- help the reader understand and deepen their own relationship to their guides (you can call this intuition if helpful entities are a belief you trip over) - describe her own and others' experiences of communicating with said helpful guidance - speak from a worldview grounded in A Course in Miracles
As a sceptic trying to understand the spiritual I found this book disappointing. Most of the 'proof' they offered was obviously plants (that is people who were planted). Or alternatively was obviously a coincidence. Personally I'd rather they left that stuff out as it made the book ununreadable in my opinion.
Many great points. The book speaks to your own personal spiritual journey. However some points seem very broad trying to speak to everyone and what they believe. The book does challenge you to open your mind to new ways of spiritual enlightenment.
This book is amazing and has given Mr all the insight and knowledge needed to create an amazing relationship with my spirit guides. She pushed me in the bright direction . a must read
This book is one that will be with me forever, I have never felt so comforted before. I know whoever reads this will feel a sense of peace & joy knowing there's always someone by your side, rooting for you & loving all that you are. So grateful to Debra & her guide Ella
This book is pretty eye opening. My first time learning about this subject but it pretty quickly felt powerful. Looking forward to trying the things the author lays out to better open myself to what is out there.
I think this is one of the most important books I’ve ever read. The advice and guidance is simple yet groundbreaking. This is one that I am so glad I bought because I will be sure to read it again and again over the years. Highly recommend for anyone’s spiritual journey.
Such a great book about learning to connect with, be open to, and seek advice from Spirit (whether you are religious and your view of Spirit is God, or angels, or spirit guides) to help you in your life.
It's exactly what it says it is. A simple guide to learning how to talk to your spirit guides. Just be mindful that you want to do that. Because she describes the process as frustrating in equal measure to satisfying.
This book transformed my spiritual journey in a profound way. It gave me insights and knowledge that moved me forward in my walk with my guides, not only that but a whole new perspective.
I highly recommend this book to people who find spirituality complex, unbelievable, or confusing. If it doesn't float your boat, no one is threatening to punish you.
the beginning of the book was pretty good, but the end just totally sucked. you could tell it was written by someone that actually believes in the medical profession and not in spirits.
This book is a keeper! Not one of those books you read, then say, "Okay, I can donate this to the library". No. This stays on your bookshelf as a constant reference (well, it will on MINE anyway!) This book is a wonderful work of art, one that lifts your hopes and helps you to believe. I look forward to reading Mrs. Engle's other books as well. I'm very grateful for her positive vibes. I also want to thank Goodreads and Red Wheel/Weiser, LLC, who listed this book for giveaway.
