This avoids the potential perils of its dubious concept by having Rin be the one with power. She is in charge, and finds her own satisfaction within it. For his part, Oscar is more awkward and grumpy than cruel, and there are implications that he may also be a victim of trauma. Together they're cute both in their daytime and their nightlife personas.

⭐2.5 (rounded up) - meh

did not like the set-up. their 'meet-cute' was very uncomfortable. plus I really dislike jerks.

if you set up a story like this with the intention of giving the intended audience what they want, you have to go big or go home.

if he is a jerk, lean into the way she is discovering, she likes to punish him. now she is 'training' him to be less rude by being kind outside the sheets. why not training him between the sheets by her training him then too? that would push a lot of buttons for sure?

also women discovering their own sexuality without men can enhance the steam-factor in a story! she can use that self-confidence to tease/torture him better! and, although unrealistic, she could 'heal' from her trauma that way too.

to bland to fully lean into the forced whore stuff. too uncomfortable for a fluffy romance.

p.s. why was this plastic wrapped? it was so censored? the waste of using plastic on something that only showed some hands doing things to a blank space 🙄. so so wasteful.

this was a rollercoaster ride. I definitely bought this without reading the synopsis on the back too closely, and when I got home I was immediately turned off by the description of oscar as a 'notorious mysogynist'. glad I still read this though, because that did not seem like an accurate way to describe him...if anything, he's kind of grumpy and standoffish, but he doesn't seem to be sexist or degrading towards women...he just seems like he doesn't want to interact with them.

anyway, beyond that, the premise was ridiculous but I loooved how much of a tsundere oscar was, especially as he begins to realize he likes rin. his grumpy faces were hilarious. rin was great - and the way she quickly become devious in her nighttime 'tortures' of oscar.... *chefs kiss*

the art style wasn't my favorite, but there were some good panels!

This is very different as far as isekai series go as there seems to be no reason Rin ends up in this other world, though it did seem to give her an affinity for different languages in this new world, even if she has no other magic. Of course she'd end up in a rather complicated relationship with the vice-captain even while both of them seem to have reasons to actively avoid relationships while also clearly being drawn to each other - something surprisingly the reluctant vice-captain seems more able or willing to admit to himself than Rin is. The author notes at the end also hints that there is a novel series that this is based off of. It'll be awhile still before the next manga volume comes out, but this relationship and setting is just different enough to be intriguing, so plan to pick it up and see how things go.

I'd actually rate this closer to 3.5 but I bumped it up to 4 stars.

Rin was an enjoyable protagonist. While she is a workaholic, she's also a bit of a pushover. But I still enjoyed her inner dialogue.

Oscar seemed to be a tsundere who clearly has a bad relationship with women due to a past experience. As another workaholic, these two are sure to be interesting together.

The smut scenes were okay. Things are not too spicy this volume but warning for a bit of a foot fetish thing going on in one scene.

The two characters have good chemistry thus far and I enjoy the meddling Captain.

You have to love the silly premises for these steamy romances, although this one has more than a little in common with The Other World's Books Depend on the Bean Counter. More importantly, I really like Rin as a heroine - she manages to evade the usual "workaholic Japanese salaryperson" trope, albeit just barely.

I'm on the fence about this one. It has the makings for fun and ridiculous trash, but hasn't hit the sweet spot yet. Felt like it was trying too hard to force some of the tropes and the relationship between the characters. I have the second volume so will give it a try, but that may be it for me and this series.

Interesting Manga. definitely different. I do like how everything is drawn, and the banter between Rin and Oscar.

I may continue this, I don't know yet. Quick read.

I was pleasantly surprised by this story. Things could’ve easily taken the route of Rin being manipulated due to a power imbalance with Oscar being the Vice-Captain of the Knights, however, that didn’t happen. I also like Rin’s different dynamics amongst the different side characters, and her dynamic with Oscar himself. She’s an enjoyable character and I liked that this first volume showed bits of her former life back in Japan. Oscar himself is a complex character and while I don’t like him, I also don’t dislike him; I’m very curious about Oscar.
Overall, this was a good read and I’m curious going into this next (and final?) volume.
