This novella gives gothic horror vibes, and I'm here for it.
A young plague doctor gets summoned to a little town to help with a mysterious illness that is running rampant through the populace, but when he gets there, the illness isn't the only strange happening.
I generally do not like short stories or novellas because there isn't time to form a bond with the characters. That was not the case with this one. I was immediately drawn in to the story and I was genuinely rooting for the plague doctor and the townspeople.
This one was weird, gruesome, and anxiety inducing. I loved it and definitely recommend it!

It’s a quick read that kept my interest. While it started off really good, I feel the ending was kinda predictable. I was expecting it to be a little bit scarier or slightly more graphic… even though this is the first “horror” book I’ve read.

In this horror novella. a young plague doctor ventures to the town of Rabenhaus, where a plague has struck the town, but with another group of enigmatic plague doctors already there, something else is going on. The unsettling presence of another group of plague doctors really questions what is going on and drives the people's minds to consider a supernatural or realistic reason. The pacing quick, which works for the short number of pages, and really ramps up the uncertainty of the plague and additional doctors. The young plague doctor seeks reason but sometimes some explaination beyond reason. Overall, this short horror book was a delight to read for anyone seeking a short tale set in a historic gothic-like setting and mysterious surrounding the town.
