“One of the best books I’ve ever read!” ~ Amazon Reviewer
”First off, I want to say that the story isn't depressing, it's actually strangely heartwarming. ’Losing Logan' was fun, mysterious, heartbreaking, and heartwarming. I laughed, I cried, I fell in love.” ~Little Paper Rose Reviews
”I couldn’t put it down!” ~Amazon Reviewer
Normally finding a hot guy in her bedroom wouldn’t irritate Zoe so badly, but finding her childhood friend Logan there is a big problem. Mostly because he’s dead.
As the only person he can make contact with, he convinces Zoe to help him put together the pieces surrounding his mysterious death so he can move on. Thrust into his world of ultra popular rich kids, Zoe is out of her element and caught in the cross-hairs of Logan’s suspicious ex-girlfriend and the friends he left behind, each of whom had a reason to want him dead. The deeper they dig to find the truth, the closer Zoe gets to a killer who would do anything to protect his secrets. And that’s just the start of her problems because Zoe is falling for a dead guy.
If you love Losing Logan , read Haunting Zoe , a follow up story told from Logan's point of view.
Sherry is the author of over a dozen novels for teens and young adults including the best selling Stolen Empire series. She can often be found browsing her local bookstore with a large white hot chocolate in one hand and a towering stack of books in the other. That is, unless she's on deadline at which time she, like the Loch Ness monster, is only seen in blurry photographs. Sherry also writes contemporary romance under the pen name SJ Noble. You can find her at her official website, www.sherryficklin.com, or stalk her on her Facebook page www.facebook.com/sherry.ficklin.
Zoe was best friends with Logan for years, but when they went to high school, they stopped. They no longer spoke. They were no longer friends. A few years later, Logan dies, but Zoe can see him, initially she thinks it’s a huge joke. She then realises he really is dead. She’s heartbroken, and thinks she’s crazy. Who knows, maybe she is?
Ghost reference from Game of Thrones, in case you are wondering...
I love the idea of the plot, where her ex best friend dies, and she thinks she sees him again. It’s really interesting, and nothing like what I've read before.
It’s written really well, and is easy to read. There was room for a bit of imagination, but not as much as I usually like. It isn’t awkward to read, and is pretty smooth from start to finish.
There are a few things I don’t like about this book, namely the fact that I felt that I was missing parts of the plot, so when a couple things happened I was like “huh?” and “where did that come from?”. I also felt that I was told more often than not what was going on, and was usually a massive surprise, as there was no inkling to point in that direction. I also enjoy piecing together what’s happening/going to happen, but all the info was given to me after a short time.
Endings pretty much always make me sad, and this is no exception!
“I have a life to get back to. And I’d better make it a damn good one, because I’m not just living it for me. Not anymore.”
I would recommend for you to read this book, especially if you’re a fan of YA and the paranormal
I received a copy of Losing Logan in exchange for an honest review (Thank-you very much Sherry!) ["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
I was lucky enough to receive and ARC of this book from the publisher and all I can say is WOW.
I had a feeling I might enjoy this when the dedication made me laugh so hard I spit my coffee! Anyone who starts their book with "For everyone who was ever mean to me in High School. Suck it." has my sense of humor and the laughs didn't stop there.
I have read a lot of YA books and never have I come across one with a character that "sounds" so much like my daughter. All of the characters in this book jumped off the page and the story takes you in a direction very different from the one you expect at the beginning. You will laugh, you might cry (I didn't but I would bet money my daughter would) but you will definitely want to keep reading to find the answers.
A well deserved 5 stars from me and a THANK YOU for having a complete stand alone story. No cliffhangers and an epilogue to boot! Love it!
I’ve been sitting on my hands for the last few days trying to gather my thoughts to write this review. “Losing Logan” is one of those books that you kind of know you’re going to like, but when you read it you are left speechless by how much it touched you. How much emotion it pulled out of you. How much you didn’t like it…you loved it.
I’m not a fan of reviews that outline the plot of books. Some reviewers do that and some people like to read those types of reviews, and that’s great. But I’m going to tell you—trust me, you don’t want to read a watered down review of “Losing Logan.” You want, no, that’s not right. You NEED to read the book. You deserve to experience it firsthand. That’s how it was meant to be read and that’s the only way to really, truly feel the depth of emotion contained in “Losing Logan.” The book deserves to be read first hand, you deserve to read it, and the author, the very talented and an extremely wonderful person, Sherry Ficklin, deserves for you to read it first hand as she intended.
Let me say that this book and the characters it contains and their shenanigans are SO Sherry Ficklin. She’s a wicked funny person and I expected no less from her characters. She’s also a strong woman, and I expected no less from the female lead in her story. I got both.
“Losing Logan” is a touching story of Zoe, a girl who feels as though she just doesn’t fit in anywhere. She wants to make her mark in life, but she just doesn’t know where or how to do so. I loved Zoe. I connected with her on so many levels. In fact, in many ways, I was Zoe in high school—minus the whole seeing ghosts thing. Sherry did such and awesome job crafting Zoe’s character. I felt like I was walking through the book with her, seeing things through her eyes, feeling what she felt. It’s very hard to create a character that pulls such a strong response from a reader and it’s a sign of a talented author who can do so.
Logan, well, what’s not to like? Except for the being dead part, he was perfect. Swoony, but vulnerable at the same time. His character, even though dead, experienced so much growth throughout the book and it was like I was there with him, in a front row seat.
The secondary characters were really nicely done. Often times secondary characters are my favorites. If you’ve read my reviews before, you’ve heard that many times, I’m sure. I liked the characters surrounding Zoe and Logan. They had depth and added to the story line. I have to say, I loved Carlos! And I hesitate to point this out because I don’t want to seem biased in any way, but I was so happy to see Sherry write in a gay character that had a large role in the story. Not only did she do it, but she did it well, without stereotypes and all that other nonsense people get hung up on.
The mystery part of the book…Wow. I loved it. Sherry pulled it off flawlessly. The pieces all fell into place. I don’t think it was hokey or something she just chucked into the story to give it something “more.” No, she put a lot of thought and effort into making the mystery aspect of the story weave in nicely with the other parts of the plot. It was so well done. I loved it!
The ending. Hmm. I can’t say much because I refuse to give anything away. But there are two things about the ending that really tugged at my heart and, yes (sigh), I cried. I was reading in the living room so I tried not to cry so my son could see me. He’s almost thirteen and would never let me live it down, but, alas, it was not to be because Sherry (damn you) wrote the ending so well that not only did I cry…it was the shoulders shaking, hiccupping, snotty nose, blotchy faced crying. My nose was stuffed up for the rest of the day.
I’ll just say, it ended just how it needed to. And it was perfect.
I received a free ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I just finished reading Losing Logan by Sherry Ficklin and the first thing that comes to mind is Oh My God, I am so reading that one again. It will be placed in my favorites file. I found this book to have a lot of depth for being a teen/young adult book.
Zoe sees dead people. Well just one dead person. That of a childhood friend named Logan. She doesn't know why she can see him, but decides to help him find out how he died. This could be difficult because he was part of the in crowd and she was part of the shadows. Logan lets her in on a little secret. His best friend Bruno has liked her for some time. The problem with Zoe dating Bruno is that she has fallen in love with Logan. She also has another ghost being following her. Will Zoe and Logan be able to find the answers they are looking for? This is definitely a 5 out of 5 star rating book. I wanted to read faster and faster to see if they found the answer, and it is kind of shocking, while at the same time not wanting the book to end. I also loved the dedication. If you do not already own this book, it needs to be on your TBR list. I would recommend it to people of all ages.
Wow.....I am speechless..I don't even know where to begin!!
I will start off by saying that as a YA Paranormal fan, I do have a tendency to step outside of my comfort zone to read other genres and I decided to give this one a shot...Well, anyway, I thought it wasn't paranormal or was it?
I wanted to read this book for three reasons. Reason 1: This is a Clean Teen Publishing author and I love to read anything CTP!! Reason 2: I found a paperback copy of this book at my local library. And.....Reason 3: This author has caught my attention with her awesomely shocking writing style that keeps me craving to read more of her work.
This book has a phenomenal twist to it that I was not expecting and this author does a remarkable job keeping me in suspense. This is an awesome story about bullying with a slight Paranormal twist. I was shocked and speechless about the ending of this book. It was surely not what I was expecting and it kept me on the end of my seat screaming and crying my eyes out. This is for sure a tissue box worthy story and I am so glad I took a chance and read this story.
I borrowed a paperback copy of this book from my local library and am voicing my opinion of this book.
I wasn't sure what to expect with this book. I was vaguely aware when I started reading that is is a YA. I didn't really know what was coming. I was so pleasantly surprised by this book! What a great read!! I wish there were more like this in the genre!
There is a romance, cause it is YA and of course there has to be a romance. It is a little unconventional though. I was wondering how things would turn out in a story where the girl seemed to be falling for a ghost. I was very happy with the outcome. The author is clever enough to easy you into a transition that makes everyone happy. There are some tricky moments. but I really felt that was the best ending all around.
This whole book is from Zoe's POV, which limits you in how you see things. You only get her side of the story with what happened with Logan when they were younger. I am curious to know his side of things. You only get to know what she knows, which isn't a lot at first.
I loved her snarky humor. She is sassy and awesome and gets even better as she lets people in, no longer using that wit to push others away. She is still snarky and sarcastic, but gentler as well. It was a joy seeing her grow and build relationships with others.
The supporting cast here is fantastic. She has a fabulous gay BFF Carlos, who is diva-licious at times! Her mom is super supportive and a touch protective. And the love interest is beyond sweet and endearing. I wanted to date him myself! Oh, yeah, she has her own personal undead stalker as well.
I listened to the audiobook narrated by Tara Millette, who is wonderful. This is my first read from her and I promise not my last. She has the snark down and infuses such emotion into the read. This is one of the most enjoyable reads I have had in a while. Her energy throughout the read and terrific pace only add to the joy of listening. Definitely a narrator to stalk...um watch!
Overall this was a great read. There is the mystery of finding out what happened to Logan, that was a little obvious after hearing the first few clues. Then again, I watch a lot of crime dramas, so what I thought was obvious, others might not see right away. Even with knowing who did it the story telling was engaging and dynamic.
Disclosure – I received this audiobook in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts opinions and ratings are my own.

*I was given a copy by the author in exchange for an honest review*
There were so many funny moments in this book that ALMOST made me pee my pants and they all started with the best dedication ever!! I was given this as an arc by the author and I loved it!
It follows Zoe who is the invisible girl in her high school. That all changes when she realises she is the only one able to see the ghost of her childhood friend. The relationship between them was so fun to read and I loved watching it develop. What makes it though is both of their attitudes, snarky, arrogant Logan who DOES have a vulnerable side stuck with Zoe, who can't keep her mouth shut and her head empty with creative insults - they really are the perfect characters to make this emotional rollercoaster a must read.
As she squeezes her way into Logan's old friendship group (the popular people) she learns thing about herself that she didn't know and she also allows herself to open up. What I found funny is that Logan was right next to her coaching her what to say as she was flirting with his ex-best friend. I actually really liked his character (the best friend/boyfriend, he was sooooo sweet)
To sum it all up, this book RUINED me!! I didn't know whether to laugh or cry or curl up in a ball in the corner of a room and never speak to another person again. At least there was no cliff hanger. This is a read I would definitely recommend to everyone out there... as long as you have a BIG box of tissues. To be honest, I think they should come with the book when you buy it, as a special package. Happy reading and prepare to be traumatized :) xxx All I can say is GOODLUCK!!
Losing Logan will put both happiness and sadness on your heart.
First of all, I was not expecting this to be surprisingly good. All I’m thinking before reading this was this book will be just an ordinary story about a girl grieving for the loss of her best friend, but, it all turned out differently.
This is a heart-wrenching story that doesn’t just tell you the importance of life, but it also lets you know that letting go doesn’t always mean forgetting but accepting and treasuring the memories you had with that person.
The characters are well-written, and for me, I can see myself so much on Zoe. Zoe might be kind of harsh when she speaks, but she is really a nice person. She is also brave to face whatever problems that come on her way.
It also feels like I’m living inside the story in a way that I can feel the emotions put in there. I like the pace of the story, and I also like how easy and light read it is.
I am recommending this book to everyone who likes to read a novel that will make you smile but will also break your heart.
Disclaimer: I received a reader copy from the author via Clean Teen Publishing.
I was lucky enough to get a very "beta" copy of this book, and I have to say, I was completely blown away. I laughed, I cried, I snorted, and then I cried some more. I mean UGLY CRIED. There was snot and everything.
Though there is a "paranormal" element, Losing Logan is a beautifully written contemporary romance about first love, loss, and moving on. It is also a thrilling murder mystery, and a laugh out loud comedy.
Zoe is everything I've come to expect in a heroine written by Sherry Ficklin. She's feisty, snarky, a little crazy, but completely loveable. And Logan...well, I fell a bit in love with him myself.
review to come, but I really, really enjoyed this more than I expected. A smidge over 4 stars, really. Snarky banter, ghosts, murders, and teenage angst. just lovely.
I was gifted with an audio copy of this book in exchange for my thoughts. No guarantee of a positive review was ever promised, my thoughts are my own.
Damn... this book was so... Beautifully sad and overwhelming. When I started it, I didn't think I would have to swallow back sobs and tears. I didn't even like Zoe and Logan at first. Zoewas just too bitchy and had a sharp tongue. Abrasive, as Carlos said. And Logan was such a jerk. But then....wow. They were just perfect together. And that first kiss... my favorite part. And I just found myself falling in love with Logan too. Yeah, I fell in love with a dead guy. An arrogant, hot, infuriating, cute, sweet and at times very solid ghost. But still a ghost. I liked Carlos. He was a really good friend to Zoe. Cute too. And I think I might actually like better a gay best friend rather than a female best friend. Girls tend to be too envious and jealous. Instead, I have yet to meet (in books) a gay friend acting all jealous and stupid toward their best girl friend. I liked Kyle. Even though I actually suspected him of murder at some point. He was so sweet and perky and passionate that he seemed almost too perfect. But I admit that him and Zoe were a cute couple. Even though I suffered watching her fall for him while Logan's heart broke and Zoe's too. I still wanted Logan and Zoe to be together even though I knew a happy ending for them would not be possible. It was sad in so many ways. It was good in as many ways. And, I loved this book, but it was also so painful to read. Turned me into an emotional mess and I liked every minute of it.
PS: The murderer was one of my suspects. But I won't tell you who it is, for obvious reasons.
There are very few books that I cry after I finish them. This was one of them. I loved this story. It's so touching.
From the dedication of this book to the last page, I enjoyed it all. Sherry has mastered writing in a way that says true to her characters and her story. Even though the characters are believable as high school students, they are enjoyable to read about even as a 25 year old. It's hard to portray YA true to their age and still have them be enjoyable by those out of the age range, and Sherry does an excellent job.
The paranormal aspect does not overshadow the story as a whole. I got really caught up in the mystery surrounding the death of Logan. Even whenever I'd put the book down, I would still be thinking of who could have done it and why. It's a story that just sticks with you.
As I already mentioned, the characters were written wonderfully. I adored Bruno; he came into Zoe's life at just the right time. Logan and Carlos were also such well rounded characters. You get to see more of Logan, so I felt really connected to him and sympathized with him. Zoe is a YA heroine that I'd want every high schooler to read about. She was not perfect. But she was perfect for this story, and I enjoyed her growth. The ending was so fitting, and I cried my eyes out.
Every YA fan should give this book a read. If you're out of high school and still enjoy YA, then this is a book for you. Don't let the high school setting scare you off. It's an amazing book with a heartfelt story that can touch you at any age.
**I received this book free of charge in exchange for an honest review. My thanks to Clean Teen Publishing and Sherry Ficklin.
When I first heard about this book my first thought was, "A love story about a ghost?". Then I read the story and Zoe's dialogue had me from the beginning. Her character is so funny.
The characters in this story are so easy to love and relate to. For instance, Zoe is is the loner former best friend of Logan. She keeps to herself and builds up walls as a way to protect herself. Like most teenagers in her shoes, once you've been hurt you don't want to go through it again.
Logan seems to have taken life in stride. On his way up the popularity ladder, stopped hanging out with Zoe. I think he always cared for her but things in life shifted and changed.
These two are brought back together when Logan suddenly passes. Zoe is the only one who can see him. Why is she the only one?
Ms. Ficklin's writing is so engaging. She keeps you pulled in from the very beginning. The atmosphere she creates in her book you actually can picture. It's vivid. You feel like you are there with Zoe and Logan. I enjoyed the banter between Zoe and Logan. It was quite hilarious at times. Her writing flows through, so there are no snags in the storyline.
Overall thoughts were that I loved this book. It was a great read. I recommend it to not just younger readers but older ones too. There is some language and mild violence. For younger readers I recommend ages 15 and up.
I just finished my ARC of Losing Logan and it quickly became a favorite of the books I've read lately. Although it is a YA novel, it would be entertaining for readers teen and up. It's a love story with a supernatural twist that will make anyone want to keep turning the pages.
After falling in love with the characters almost immediately, the witty one-liners made me laugh out loud and the love story left me teary throughout the book. And sometimes I found myself laughing and crying-all on the same page.
I loved reading this book and can see myself reading it again. It deserves a movie adaptation. Seriously.
OMG!! This was the first book I have read by Sherry D Ficklin and it's so amazing!! I absolutely fell in love with the characters, especially Logan. Zoe is helping Logan with his unfinished business since she seems to be the only one who can see him, they used to be friends at one time, now she can't stand him or his fake friends or so she says. The suspense around how Logan really died will keep you on your toes. I really enjoyed reading Losing Logan and can't wait to read more from Sherry, she's a very talented writer. My most personal fave piece would have to be her dedication LOL ;)
Last year I read and loved, Extracted, by Sherry D. Ficklin & Tyler Jolley. I was delighted to dive into Ficklin’s young adult paranormal, Losing Logan. This mystery was refreshing, sweet and at times hilarious. Ficklin’s references to science fiction movies and television shows will delight readers. Zoe navigates interacting with a ghost, falling in love and saying good-bye. With fleshed out characters, danger and snark Losing Logan is not to be missed.
Suddenly faced with the ghost of her childhood friend, Zoe is forced to step out of her comfort zone. The back-story Ficklin created between Zoe and Logan tugged at my heart, and many will identify with the path their friendship took. Ficklin does a wonderful job of rekindling their friendship. She adds wicked banter, snark and tender moments as Logan and Zoe work to help him crossover and find themselves caught up in a murder mystery. The tale offers a delightful mix of paranormal, romance and coming of age wrapped with humor.
I could not help but be reminded of a few movies as I read. In particular Ghost and Princess Diaries. References and ideas from popular television shows made me snort. I could just imagine myself doing the exact same thing when faced with a ghost. For example in Supernatural they sprinkle salt and burn the bones of a ghost to make it crossover..bwahaha. These are the thoughts and conversations Zoe had, and I laughed myself silly.
Salt and Burn (gif)
The romance is beautifully done and perhaps the most romantic I have ever read. I swooned, cried and completely enjoyed the unique storyline. There is more to this then falling for a ghost, and I want to spill so badly, but trust me..it was complicated, so dang sweet and different. In fact for some it will be the first and only time they actually like one of these. (and that is the only hint you are getting)
It's that kind of romance (gif)
I wanted them to find their happy and wow just wow! Losing Logan delivers more than a romance as Ficklin weaved in character growth and a murder mystery that had me flipping the pages. Zoe gets a mini make-over and advice to help her gain acceptance with Logan’s old circle. She suddenly finds herself thrust into the popular crowd while she searches for clues. Along the way, she discovers things about herself and begins to blossom. Zoe is brilliant, witty and has the best zingers. I had a constant smile on my face whenever she argued or spoke her mind. Hilarious, and honest with a strong moral compass I easily connected with her. Zoe’s best friend Carlos was fantastic. He is openly gay and will delight readers looking for more LGBT reads. He is a fashionista and Ficklin delivers a nice little side story about him. I loved how accepted he was and how open he and his friends were. Bruno was Logan’s best friend, and he is such a sweet, shy, well-rounded guy. I loved his interaction with Zoe. Of course we meet the mean girls, the followers, and the insecure. I mean what high school setting would be complete without them?
Ficklin gave us genuine characters that we could identify with from the main characters to the secondary. I picked up subtle clues as to who the murderer was. It was well written, believable and clever. Ficklin delivered some climatic scenes that had me holding my breath. Then she wrapped things up with a freakin’ awesome twist. The whole time I was reading I worried how everything was going to work out for these characters. I had come to adore them and fretted over how it would all play out. How was I going to find happy? I need happy! It was brilliant, beautiful and perfect… I closed the book with tears and a smile. *truffles soothed me*
I was all Ooh, wipes tears and Grins! (gif)
Losing Logan delivers a suspenseful mystery wrapped in a romance that will touch your soul. Angst FREE, well-paced, and humorous this tale is sure to please. If you have not guessed I totally recommend Losing Logan. Unique, with fleshed out characters, a fascinating storyline and a romance that I will remember.

I heard plenty of things about Losing Logan before ever seeing my own copy. A good friend of mine loved it so much that she simply had to buy me a copy and mail it to me so I would read it.
Losing Logan is the story of Zoe Reed, a high school senior that has blended into the woodwork for longer than she can remember. It isn't until her recently deceased childhood best friend, Logan, shows up in her bedroom as a ghost, and she's the only one who can see or hear him that things change. Zoe agrees to help Logan discover the circumstances around his mysterious death to help him cross over to the other side. In order to do that, she needs to talk to the people who were closest to Logan, which means getting in with his friends: the popular crowd. Zoe's senior year is about to get very interesting with her new popularity, cute new boyfriend, and the fact that she may or may not be falling in love with a dead guy.
I'll be completely honest when I say that I loved the insults that Zoe threw around throughout the book. When I was told to read it, that was one of the first things that I heard about: the sarcastic humor. Some of my favorites being "you pompous ass waffle", "you insecure butt clown", and "you are like, the king of douche fairies".
I also loved the relationship between the characters, especially between Zoe and Bruno. He was the sweetest person, and even though I wasn't sure I was into the idea of them being together at first, I found myself shipping them harder than anything.
But beyond that, I'm not sure how much else of the story I liked.
It was a little anti-climactic, having the story build up with a mysterious reaper, Zoe being in danger, and trying to figure out what happened to Logan. And then when you finally learn, the scene is rushed, and everything after it doesn't have that satisfying "we have the answers!" feel to it. It's almost like it's just filler leading up to the big last scene. Which, truthfully, was a bit predictable, and not all that exciting.
Some pieces of the story caught me off-guard, and others were as predictable as a Disney Channel movie.
As for the ending, it felt like an incredible let down. That epilogue had me not at all pleased with it's short, overly-sappy, overly-cliche romantic "we will always be together" moment, and I'm a hardcore romance junkie. It left me with a pretty big question, too.
Although, I can look past some of those pieces of story telling that I wasn't entirely feeling. I don't think I would've asked for the story to be any different, other than that ending right there.
Really, the biggest problem I had with the story was the massive amount of spelling, grammar, and formatting issues. At first, it wasn't a big deal to me. Things slip through. An occasional spelling or grammar issue happens, even in professionally published books. However, the incredibly high amount of these mistakes wasn't just harmless errors. Truthfully, it comes across as unprofessional with the incorrect punctuation, misspellings, and backwards quotation marks. To me, that just shows a lot of carelessness that shouldn't be present in a professionally published book.
TL/DR: Zoe has the best attitude, she and Bruno are total sweethearts, the ending could have been done a lot better, and the intense amount of spelling, grammar, and formatting errors in the book make me wonder how the editor wasn't fired.
However, if you're willing to look past the errors and a sappy ending, then you'll probably like reading it. Unfortunately, it just wasn't my cup of tea.
The moonlight is hitting him at an odd angle, making him almost glow. It's so beautiful that for a moment I'm transfixed by it. He looks over his shoulder at me and all I can think is how beautiful he is. Like an angel. Then he opens his mouth.
OMG!!! I don't even know where to start with explaining my love for this book. I have never read anything by Sherry D. Ficklin before, and while I'm so cranky at myself for that, I'm also ecstatic that I got to fall in love with her writing through Losing Logan. This book was brilliantly written, from the dedication, that had me laughing so hard, to the very last page that saw me getting all teary.
There are few things better than being surprised when reading a book, and Losing Logan managed to surprise me time and again. There were so many times that I had guesses about how I thought things were going to play out and each and every time my ideas were blown straight out of the water. The mystery of it all was just perfect. I was so thrown when things were revealed, because I never once was anywhere close to guessing how things were going to go.
"You look like a girl," he stammers. I promptly flip him off. "Ah, there's my little princess."
The backwards and forwards bantering Between Logan and Zoe was witty and fun, sarcastic and snarky and provided some real laugh out loud moments. Are all of Sherry D. Ficklin's books so witty? I really need to get them and find out.
Even dead he's the most beautiful boy I've ever seen. From the sharp slope of his nose to the curve of his jaw, From his broad shoulders to his dirty blonde hair that is perfect-messy in the way only movie stars seem to be able to achieve.
The romantic aspect of the book was just mind blowingly wonderful. The author weaved these relationships so perfectly. I was so torn at times. My heart knew what it wanted, but then it wanted something else. What it got was a whole lot of sweet and swoony romance. Just how I like it!!
The ending was so beautiful, so sad, so happy, so good. It was all of that and more. My emotions were going everywhere trying to decide, and get a grip on exactly how I was feeling. I admit to being one to cry pretty easily when it comes to books. Teary, glassy eyes are just a given for me. But tears rolling down my cheeks... Not so much. And I was actually really surprised by it, because going into Losing Logan, that wasn't what I expected at all.
This book will without a shadow of a doubt be one that I can genuinely say that I will be picking up again. It is going onto my list of best books that I've read so far this year. Go, go ,go, grab it. You're gonna love it!!
If you believe the publishing world, paranormal fiction – be it Adult, YA or MG is dead. If you listen to the reader, you’ll know that it isn’t anywhere near dead and WILL NEVER BE dead. But Logan Cooper sure is. Welcome to the world of Losing Logan by Sherry D. Ficklin, whose debut novel Extracted (a steampunk, time travel affair) was published in December of last year. This is Sherry’s first foray into the YA contemporary world and what an entrance she’s made with this book. Losing Logan is a FUN book and thoroughly entertaining. Yes, there’s murder, a killer on the loose and some unfortunate, untimely deaths but there’s also a lot of laugh out loud material in the form of witty banter between main characters Zoe and Logan. You see the thing is, they rub each other up the wrong way and have done since they stopped being friends back in junior high. But as luck would have it, now Logan is dead, Zoe is the only person who can see and talk to Logan so she’s kind of stuck with him. At least until they figure the whole mess out of how he died in the first place as he can’t remember and something is a little...off. The deeper they delve, the more dangerous things become and Zoe is at risk of not only losing her life, but her heart too.
Zoe is the sassy and sarcastic narrator in the book. She’s smart for sure but not smart enough to keep her big mouth shut which means that besides her cat, her gay best friend Carlos is her only friend. She’s not mean, she’s just honest and really, not everyone can handle the truth. Especially high school students.
Logan is (or was) Mr Popular who has a lust for life. Well, until he died. We learn about him through Zoe’s eyes and he’s more than a match for her. His best friend Kyle Bruno has always had a crush on Zoe but has never quite worked up the nerve to ask her out, until Logan suggests that it would be a way for Zoe to penetrate the popular crowd and find out what really happened to him. But, as it happens, Kyle is a pretty decent guy and I had a little soft spot for him throughout the novel.
Losing Logan is a highly entertaining read with plenty of laugh out loud moments and witty dialogue mixed in with a bit of mystery, romance and thrills. I couldn’t turn the page fast enough to find out what happened next and I enjoyed every minute of it. This is a standalone novel that will quench that paranormal thirst you’ve had for a while so go on, take a sip.
"What if the only thing you never meant to hold on to was the one thing you couldn't let go of?"
This is a story about letting go of the dead. Its well written with interesting characters. I especially liked Zoe a lot. She is fun and I quite like her straightforward attitude, sometimes she was a bitch but, hey some people do deserve it. And don't forget that she loves a ghost. Nothing can ever come out of that relationship, right? but she is not prepared to let go of Logan. Besides Logan is stuck in this world due to some unfinished business or something (they can't quite figure out) and she must help him. Its not that she and Logan get along. even in death he can be a little annoying.
"Aw, that's kinda sweet. You know, in a not really sort of way."
Then they realised that Logan didn't die naturally but was murdered. he had no memory of it and now it is up to Zoe to find out exactly what happened the night he died. So Zoe must start somewhere and the best place will be Logan's friends. Those people she had avoided her entire high school life and wasn't too happy to get to know the. To find the truth she changes herself and turned into a person everyone wanted to be friends with.
".. In death there is truth."
She started going out with Logan's best friend Bruno. Who has been crushing on her for a while and is obviously too happy. He loves Zoe and makes her feel special and Zoe loves him too but not in the way she loves Logan.
"Then just let him love you, and love him as much as you can in return. Love him as much as you're able to right now. There is no shame in that."
So she keep going out with Bruno. She needs him too as their investigation into Logan's death becomes more and more dangerous. Another student is dead and it is clear that there is more to the story than everyone thought. Did I mention how much I loved reading this book? It was sad in a good way and full of mystery and thrill. Ghosts stories are rarely as good as this one. In the middle though it did seem like dragging a little but soon story picked up again. I will recommend to any fan of paranormal/ghosts/YA. This book was worth the time and definitely a 5-star read.
Holy wow! What an outstanding book! I realized I won a copy of the audible book, but never claimed it! I stumbled across the code, and claimed it and listened to it within two days! TWO DAYS! This book is so addicting. It reminded me of the Mediator series by Meg Cabot. I adored that series, and I loved this book as well. Zoe is hilarious. Her insults are impressive, her snark level rivals the some of the most sarcastic characters I know in REAL life! How amazing to have a book with dedication to tell the people in high school to suck it! This book had a great mystery plot, a outstanding character development, and really dived deep into what it feels like to lose someone, and how hard it is to fit in during high school. Ficklin writes this book in such a way that it could be read by an 11 year old, or a 30 year old, and both would react the same. It's a perfect example about how GOOD YA can break through age barriers and really interest a wide variety of readers. I thought Logan and Zoe's early interactions to be one of the funniest parts of this story, they fired back and forth so many clever and funny insults that I was literally dying at work laughing. I also really loved Kyle. He was one of the truly good guys that so rare to find in what is considered popular people in high school. He cares, he's brave and completely honest about who he is. I applaud Ficklin for writing such a great story. Many times when author's have been out of high school they paint overly fictionalize portrays of what it's like. Ficklin kept it straightforward and honest.
Overall, I adored this book. Well written, great plot, endearing characters. (I won't lie, I teared up at the end. Didn't see that final twist coming.. but man it was perfect!) The actress they chose to read for the audio version was on point. She did a great job of adjusting her voice for different characters and keeping us from being confused.
All in all, I loved it and can't wait to read/listen to more by Sherry Ficklin! :)
*I won a copy of audible book, and am providing an honest review.
This book was good, but I think it should have been great and I'm sorry I can't give it 5 stars. It centers around high school students Logan and Zoe who were great friends earlier in their lives, but then as the book states Logan got popular and Zoe got sarcastic. They stopped speaking and spending any time together. The book starts with Zoe at a funeral and then she sees Logan. Since the funeral is for Logan, she is beyond angry thinking that Logan is pulling the ultimate prank. But it turns out not to be a prank. Logan is dead and Zoe is the only one that can see and hear him.
This book is a wonderfully written adventure with Logan and Zoe trying to figure out why Logan is still here. Logan, meanwhile, is trying to get Zoe to start fitting in with the popular crowd both because he feels she has isolated herself and needs friends, and because it seems Logan might have been murdered and someone in that crowd has answers he needs.
The following are things I think made the book 4 stars instead of 5. Most are spoilers so I'm hiding them.
There is a short novella out called "Haunting Zoe." It was a little confusing. We did get a little more of Zoe's and Logan's initial meeting at the funeral, but it didn't just seamlessly flow into the main book so it took me a little to get my bearings. But just for another Zoe and Logan session I was happy.
Even with its flaws, I think this book is really worth the read.
OMG! I absolutely loved this book! From the dedication which is just the best one I have ever seen to the ending. It’s just amazing and heart breaking all at the same time.
Zoe and Logan were best friends for years but once they entered high school everything changed and they no longer talk. It’s now a few years later and Logan has died, but Zoe can still see him which leads her to think this is all some big joke. But once she realizes that Logan is in fact really dead and she can see and talk to him she is heartbroken and thinks she is crazy. But who wouldn’t think that? Soon Zoe starts to help Logan with his unfinished business but getting thrown into his crowd of popular rich kids which is not her element at all, she needs to find out which of them killed him before she not only risks her life but her very heart to Logan.
I loved this book so much that I literally read it in one sitting. I just could not put my kindle. The whole story from the plot to the characters is so well written that I couldn’t help but get lost in this story.
Zoe is a great heroine. I connected to her on so many levels and really felt as if I was in the book right along with her experiencing everything with her. Which shows just how well Sherry has written her.
Logan what can I say about him except he is swoon worthy and just perfect well except for being dead and all but still I loved him. He had so much growth in this book for being a dead guy that I enjoyed every minute of the story he was in.
The ending well I won’t give anything away except it’s just perfect even though Sherry had me ugly crying which doesn’t happen very often from books. 5/5 Bloody Fangs
Losing Logan by Sherry Ficklin is as entertaining as it is engrossing. I had to struggle to put it down to do those necessary things like eat, sleep, and work. What’s more, I found myself pondering over the characters and the storyline as I went through my day. I wanted to know more about Zoe. I wanted to know why Logan did not go into the light and why on Earth he was haunting someone he didn’t seem to give two hoots about in high school. And most importantly, I wanted to discover how Ficklin was going to make it all work out. As an author, this is a great success. You want your reader to care deeply about your characters, turning pages (or pressing forward buttons for electronic books) frantically in order to find out what happens next. Kudos to Sherry! Losing Logan hooked me from the very beginning and then reeled me right onto shore! I honestly couldn’t have enjoyed the ride more. I highly recommend this book to teens and adults alike. You will not be disappointed.
God I can't even make a legit review right now. This book......i don't even know..... I started crying so hard during the last couple of chapters like seriously wtf Sherry?! What ere you thinking!? THE ONLY REASON THIS BOOK ISN'T 5 STARS is because of that bawl worthy ending. Fuck I hate sad ending....no this was more bitter sweet not sad, but whatever to me its practically the same thing. I would definitly recommend this book to anybody and everybody as long as they're okay with crying and knowing everything isn't gonna turn out perfectly!
This book was beautifully written but it was a bit pradictable once she told us that Kaylee's ex-boyfriend wasn't in highschool. But I defenetly wasn't expecting the last like two chapters...that shit really got to me...
Pass me the tissues and just shut up! I wasn't going to cry, wasn't, nope, oh fudge. I did. Sherry writes with a fresh snarky wonderful voice. The pace is perfect as the story develops. Zoe has her armor, a "I'll hit you just for talking to me" kind of personality until she finds herself in a situation that gives her a mission to find peace for a friend of hers. I love that she doesn't have to change her personality, just her attitude for the conclusion which was unexpected and, yes, made me sob. This is an uplifting story, and I highly recommend it. Thanks to the publisher for an arc in exchange for an honest review.
