The traps are set. The invitations sent. Finally, Halloween is here and I don’t have to hide my face anymore. I can walk among the humans as the high-ranked demon I am. Once they enter the grounds, their souls belong to us, but The Devil’s tastes are refined and we must season them to perfection if they are to grace the walls of his private stores.
If I fail to please him, he’ll send me back to Hell, or worse, take my existence.
If I succeed, well, the pleasure will be worth the pain.

Kitten
I’m always looking for the next adventure and when an invitation to The Devil’s Carnival is crammed under my door, I can’t resist, especially when the words seem to speak directly to me–daring me to go.
Dressed as a cat, I enter the carnival, signing the contract and stepping into The Devil’s domain. It’s all just another thrill, smoke and mirrors, but something about this carnival isn’t right–the sights and sounds are almost real. When I’m shoved into a demented fun house, I’m determined to find out just what the hell is going on.

It’s spooky season yall! This one was a short and grotesque story to get this spooky season started. This was my first book by these authors and I definitely liked what I read. They did such a great job of keeping hope alive and making the reader guess if the characters are going to survive all the way until the end, and for erotic horror, I feel like that’s really vital. I did feel like some of the flow of storytelling could have been a little more seamless. There were parts where it was a little choppy, as if they each wrote a part/pov, then pieced them together without much flow but honestly it wasn’t enough to take away from the story.

Even though it was short! This was one interesting story about a very dark and grotesque carnival. And it makes for a fun and horrifying read for Halloween.

Please be advised before reading that this book does have trigger warnings and the authors have the warnings in the back of the book.

Wooo. 🥵 The Devil’s Carnival is in town, and he’s looking for a “good” time. 😈

This is one is for my smutty horror lovers. 🔥 Knight and Knightly absolutely killed it with this one. Demons, The Devil, Ghouls, Monsters, and more. 😮‍💨

There’s some real good spicy scenes 🌶️ alongside some real good gore. 🔪🩸I also loved the chapters and how they did the different POV’s. It worked really well for this book! 👏🏼

This is such a good book for Halloween!! 🎃 and just in general for those who like some smut mixed with some horror. 🫶🏼

Hell of a Thing is a great read to rev you up for spooky season! Please heed the trigger/content warnings, because there are lots of goodies awaiting you behind every page and every door that slowly creaks open in this paranormal, carnival, erotic horror.

Kitten has a sweet, adventurous spirit and is ready to bust into some Halloween carnival that's rolled into town, AND to which she's received a special invitation. Despite unknowingly signing her life away, she catches some keywords that spark some level of caution and hesitation, but she doesn't have time to think about it as she's pushed inside and overwhelmed by the sights and sounds of the monstrous carnival.

What starts as spectacular awe and wonder at the ultra-realistic makeup and prosthetics, transforms into her worst fears come to life: she might not make it out alive.

This was a really fun and rollercoaster horror ride into spooky season. The tension of not knowing what insanity will come next, the desire to know but not really want to know what's going to happen, and the level of detail put into the graphic descriptions were what kept me plowing through this novella. It is not for the faint of heart, and the novella truly read as a condensed season of American Horror Story for me. Such a fun story for this time of year!

'The Devil's Carnival has come to town.
Don't be frightened, come on down.
Life is such a fickle thing.
A glass of wine,
A bit of fun
Before the bell and you're done.
Come on down this Halloween.
You'll never forget the sights we bring.'

Hell of a Thing by Fay Knightly and Laurae Knight drew me in right from the dedication and held me tight until the last page.

Kitten is an adrenaline junkie who is looking for her next hair raising adventure when she receives a mysterious invitation to The Devil's Carnival. Arriving at the carnival she starts having second thoughts as she has to sign a waiver and her phone is confiscated. She soon finds herself at the Haunted House and that's when the real fun starts.

I can not stress this enough - check the trigger warnings! This dual POV novella is filled with chaos, gore, a little spice and some very dark scenes. This spooky story is the perfect Halloween read for lovers of all things horror. It is a fast paced, plot driven, descriptive read that will keep you guessing about what is behind the next door.

If you like carnivals, demons, gore, torture and blood mixed with some paranormal spice make sure to check out the deliciously dark novella that is Hell of a Thing.

Welcome to “Hell of a Thing” where Halloween isn’t just a night of tricks—it’s a carnival straight from the Devil’s personal playground.🎡

And trust me, once you step into this twisted funhouse, you might not come out in one piece! 😈

🎪Avery’s ready to escape her usual thrills when she stumbles into The Devil’s Carnival—but this isn’t your typical haunted house.

With demons running the show, blood contracts signed, and some seriously wild games, it’s a night of horror, smut, and gore, wrapped in a spooky little bow.🎃🔪

From the moment Kitten struts in, dressed for a fun night out, the carnival has different plans.

The sights? Too real.
The games? Deadly.
And don’t even get me started on the monsters lurking behind every corner.

“Carnival lights and carnival fun, when the sun goes down, you’d better run.” 🖤💀

What to expect?
* 🔥 Dark, deranged thrills
* 🌶️ Spicy, sinful moments that will have you sweating
* 🩸 Gore, body parts, and Devil-approved torture
* 😏 An ending that will leave you screaming, “WHAT THE HELL?!”

The POV shifts are a wild ride, giving us the perfect taste of fear from every angle. And that Devil’s Carnival poem? Creepy, catchy, and bound to stay in your head all night. 😱

If you’ve got the guts (and the stomach) for it, “Hell of a Thing” is your perfect spooky read!

🎟️Just remember: once you enter the carnival, there’s no turning back.

ARC REVIEW

Hell of a thing by Faye Knightly & Laurae Knight

“Carnival lights and carnival fun When the sun goes down, you’d better run.”

Rate: 5/5✨

Spicy: 🌶️🌶️

Thoughts: 💭

There are so many words I can say about this book. But the one I want to say is how divine this book was! For this being a short story novella this was well written! I started this book in the morning and just finished it! So I’m pretty sure y’all already know my rating. It’s a 5/5✨
I love the carnival setting it’s giving especially since it’s fair season in my hometown, it gave it the right vibe! The main FMC was to die for, not only was she an adrenaline junkie but she risked it all to go this carnival. Like that would be me if something miraculously came to my door. My fiancée would probably tell me no but I would risk it.
Then Irsa, lord have mercy the spicy scenes were not to spicy but girl wanted the D since the beginning. Ma’am needs to relax. But I was able to tell she wanted the attention from the Devil, so she did everything she could to get what he wanted. Her ending was kind of unexpected but what can I say, she should have never lied to the goat. 😕
I would recommend this book to anyone who likes:
1) Spooky Romace
2) Short horror story
3) Gore

Halloween is upon us and Kitten attends The Devil’s Carnival, quickly sensing the ambience of the evening to be a little too close to the mark where reality is concerned. Isra is a demon who adores her connection with the main man who she’s summoned to attend the festivities.

The reader is allowed heartbeat by heartbeat access to Kitten’s journey through the Haunted House at the carnival. Assisted by Isra, The Devil is out to claim a soul for his collection. Will that soul be Kitten’s?

Hell of a Thing is a stomach-clenching goregasmic trip into the fantasy world of evil. Amongst the mayhem, humour and irony travel hand in hand. One minute, my stomach is protesting and the next I’m sniggering into my pillow. The story is beautifully written with poetic prose smattered like the blood and guts strewn around the walls of the carnival attraction.

I thoroughly enjoyed this short read. I had actually forgotten it was novella-length and was most perturbed when I realised the end was upon me. The names of the authors have been stored away in my horror-seeking mind for when they decide to pounce at me from the depths of the internet.

I received this book as a free ARC and this is my honest review.

This book isn't just called Hell of a Thing—it really is a hell of a thing.
If you're looking for a short, thrilling Halloween novel with gore, blood, and some paranormal spice, this book is perfect for you.

The ending broke me. What the F...! I had so much hope.
Hell of a Thing contains a lot of disturbing scenes and well... a few of them are really spicy. Seems like I need some therapy 😉 (Check TW!!!).

All in all, it was dark! And disturbing! I needed to collect my thoughts before I could write this review. But I loved every page.
Thanks to the authors! It's really fast-paced, thrilling from the very beginning, and creates the perfect Halloween-horror movie in my mind.

Our FMC gets an invitation to the devil's carnival, and so the game of deaths begins. But I don’t want to spoil anything...

🌶️🌶️🌶️.5/5

Tropes:
✅ Kind of triple POV 😉
✅ Perfect Halloween novel to be read in one sitting
✅ Demons, ghouls, giant spiders, centipedes, and the devil himself
✅ Masked people
✅ Carnival, haunted fun house

Check trigger warnings before diving in. If you love something thats on the horror side,  a bit spooky perfect for those halloween reads with a little bit of spice

Kitten loves a good adrenaline rush, she loves being on the edge. Loves horror and getting scared.
Isra is the devils "second hand man" she runs this carnival, she finds the people they need that could suit the devils needs, all she needs to do is please him.. please him with her body and also anyone that would suit his refined palate

It was a carnival with a twist and invite only. You never knew what Kitten would run into within the fun house. You just had to expect the unexpected with this one, you really didn't know what was going to lurk behind the next door. It constantly kept you on the edge of your seat.
There was some scenes that included some praise between the devil and isra, but also a scene that included appendage use during a spicy scene. Who would think an arm? Also just have to mention the artwork for the characters! It was so good to see something different.

First of all, I'm here to say - check the dang trigger warnings before diving into this short, quick-paced read. It's dark, demented and deals with The Devil himself (literally.)

Good with all that? Then you'll find this book is well-written and has a unique concept! A carnival where souls are harvested for the devil by the qualities they possess, then refined and made to taste for The Devil's stores. This twisted tale is told from multiple POVs, mainly Kitten (Lisa, Thrill-seeker Extraordinaire) and Isra (Devil's General and Head of Carnival.) This gives the reader an experience from both sides, adding to the conflict and deepening the story. There is also quite a bit of spice packed in to such a brief read, but the plot filled the pages nicely, too.

Over-all a very delicious narrative for those who like their reads dark and all sorts of twisty!

“The Devil’s Carnival has come to town. Don’t be frightened, come on down.”

Have you ever fantasized about the Devil calling you a Good Girl? Would you drop to your knees if the King of Hell asked you to “crawl to me”? If you are looking for a short Halloween read, read Hell of a Thing!

This horror novella was such a quick, juicy, and gory read. One thing is for sure, nothing good ever happens in a fun house!

In this beautifully f*cked up novella, you will find:
🩸Gůts and g0r3
🩸 Interesting use of s3v3r3d limbs
🩸 Last person standing type challenges
🩸 Multiple POVs
🩸 Final Girl vibes

Piece of advice, always read when signing a contract, especially one signed in blood! If you enter a haunted house and things seem too realistic, there’s a possibility it’s run by demons and ghouls.

I just finished this spooky novella, and I have to say—it’s one wild, twisted ride! From the moment I started reading, the fast-paced action pulled me in, and I couldn’t stop until I reached the end. The setting of the nightmarish carnival was so vivid and eerie, it really got under my skin. If you’re into dark, creepy stories, this one definitely delivers.

What stood out most for me was the intensity. It’s filled with explicit scenes, blood, and gore, so it’s not for everyone—but if you can handle that, it totally ramps up the suspense. I found myself rooting for the main character as she faced all these terrifying encounters, and the unexpected twists kept me on edge the whole time. It’s one of those stories that sticks with you, especially if you love horror with a bit of depth. I’d highly recommend it to anyone looking for a thrilling, creepy read to get into the Halloween spirit!

3.5 stars rounded up.

Lisa gets a personal invitation to The Devil's Carnival. Being the thrill-seeker she is, she accepts without hesitation. But once she arrives, it quickly becomes clear that this carnival is anything but ordinary.

The story is fast-paced and tense, packed with gore — and even a few disturbingly graphic sex scenes. The chapters alternate between Lisa’s point of view and that of Isra, a demon tasked with finding the most “flavorful” human soul.

I really enjoyed the story overall, especially the chapters told from Lisa’s perspective. The sections from Isra’s point of view felt a bit less natural to read — though that might have been intentional, given that we’re inside the mind of a demon.

However, the ending left me slightly unsatisfied. Lisa’s final fate felt somewhat ordinary, which stood in contrast to the wild, original tone of the rest of the story.

Okay… that was a gory little fever dream. A carnival straight out of a nightmare, a bunch of demons and monsters tearing people apart, and the Devil himself sipping blood-and-essence wine like it’s a fine vintage.
It’s violent, grotesque, and weirdly fun — like someone handed me a ticket to a haunted house that actually led straight into Hell.

Was it deep? No. Did I need it to be? Also no.
It was short, filthy, chaotic, and exactly the quick dark read I needed after finishing my exams.

The prose is punchy, the imagery drips crimson, and the whole thing feels like an R-rated carnival ride that doesn’t stop long enough for you to think. If you want plot, look elsewhere. If you want demons, gore, lust, and a bit of unholy sparkle, step right up.

Would I reread it? Probably not but I’m glad I went for the ride.

Finding the perfect soul flavor

When an adrenaline junkie gets an invite to a spooky carnival she can't wait to go. Although disappointed to be going alone her excitement is undeterred.

Starting from the not so typical waiver, the removal of cell phones and signing in blood out FMC isn't sure what she has gotten herself into. Of course they have safety measures in place, of course everything looks real, of course everyone is an actor.....right

Buckle up for a horror ride filled with unease, screams, blood, demons and death. Nothing is as it seems while also being all that and more.

Will this little kitten survive the night or will she fall prey to the things that go bump in the night.

This was dark and twisty. Perfect for October spooky reading.

First and foremost (for me), this is not a romance book. If you’re looking for romance, go somewhere else. If you’re looking for spicy scenes, you’ll find a couple, but that’s it. True, one of them is using a severed appendage, but it’s not done for “hotness”, it’s done for shock value.

Kitten is a thrill-seeker who goes to a carnival she receives an invitation to, only to sign her literal life away by not reading the waivers. She makes a deal with demons this way. Isra is The Devils Right Hand and decides that Kitten will be perfect for his special collection. She spends the book preparing Kitten for The Devil, while Kitten just wants to escape.

All in all, this is a great horror novella. 4 1/2 stars. Two 🌶️🌶️ on the spice scale.

This was a very dark, short, gory, story... please check the trigger warnings before reading.
This is total spooky season vibes! Kitten is searching for her next adrenaline rush. When she gets a surprise invitation to The Devil's Carnival, she immediately accepts. When she realizes she has to sign a waiver to enter, she first thinks nothing of it, but as she started skimming the details, she started having doubts. Little did she know, the Devil would be attending this event.
This book is very well written. It has spice, gore, and is told in multi-pov. Some of the scenes were shocking and had the desired effect that was intended. The story started a little slow for me, but picked up after the first quarter. Once it picked up, I couldn't put it down!

this book!!!

There are no words to describe how perfect this book was for the Halloween season. It was short with tons of gore and some spicy scenes that were pretty scary. The beginning was an interesting character looking for the next exhilarating rush. She had no idea what was in store when she got the invite to the carnival. How each demon and ghoul were described .The sense of those realizing how bad things were going to get, and the scenes showing the demise of many was enough to give you nightmares . To meet the devil would immediately have me gone within seconds how these people didn’t freak out in during that time. All I know this book as short as it was definitely packed a punch I really enjoyed it.

For a short story this was absolutely packed with a story, gore and spice. I really enjoyed it for a spooky Halloween read with a carnival theme!
I grew to like all the characters featured and how they created the storyline together. There was just enough to keep me reading and wanting to know what the heck is going to happen next.
The ending is why I have given it 4 stars. It was not the outcome I was looking for and I know it’s a short story but the ending was pretty abrupt for a character. I understand finishing it the why but still was looking for a different outcome I guess. Nonetheless I loved the book!! Thank yall for allowing me the chance to read it!

This one is not for the faint of heart! PLEASE consult the tw's / cw's prior to reading; you know your limits best!

Hell of a Thing was my first read by either Faye Knightly or Laurae Knight, and it definitely didn't disappoint! At just over 100 pages it's a quick read, but it's DARK and perfect for this spooky autumnal season. Demons have set up a horror-themed carnival to lure humans in for their ulterior (nepharious) motives. One human woman catches the demon in charge's attention and we follow both their and the Devil himself's night at the horror attraction.

Now that I've devoured Hell of a Thing in a single day, I'll be going to find more to read from these two talented authors!

Beware mysterious invitations to The Devil’s Carnival!!

Kitten learns this the hard way. Halloween is when all the demons and ghouls come out to play. Isra has her eyes on Kitten. By the end of the night, Kitten will be her's.

If the rides don't k!ll you, the haunted house will. Ooh and hope you don't find yourself the main attraction. It is a bloody massacre. The monsters featured in this story truly are what nightmares are made from.

This book is a gory, good time. If you like reading dark, horror books that will get your stomach turning and have no triggers, then you will want to pick up a copy of this book!

Laurae Knight and Faye Knightly’s "Hell of a Thing" is a gripping exploration of love and resilience set against a backdrop of intense emotional landscapes. The characters are richly developed, each grappling with their own demons, which makes their journeys all the more compelling. The authors’s prose is both evocative and engaging, pulling readers into a world that feels both familiar and hauntingly original.

While the pacing occasionally dips in the middle, the climax is rewarding and well-executed, leaving a lasting impact. Overall, "Hell of a Thing" is a powerful testament to the human spirit, deserving of its four stars for its emotional depth and memorable characters.
