Barbara Freethy can always be counted on to pull out the emotions, helping the reader feel the intensity and suspense, share the worry and anger, while also bringing in the surprise, hope, and love. This story had all of these and more. It is complex and moves quickly, a thrill ride of questions and twists in the hunt for truth. I loved Matt and Haley, and their connection, and I had trouble putting the book down. Another hit in a captivating series!

Barbara Freethy has done it again! I absolutely loved Shattered Truth by Barbara Freethy, the fifteenth book in her Off the Grid: FBI series. Barbara Freethy has once again delivered an incredible romantic thriller with Shattered Truth and has provided her readers with amazing characters! Who does not love hot, sexy men and strong, passionate women? Shattered Truth was an incredible romantic thriller, I was hooked from the very first page and I loved every moment on every page, it was impossible to put it down. Shattered Truth is one of the most enjoyable books that I have read recently. Barbara Freethy has once again proven that she is a master storyteller and continues to be a must-read author for me. Shattered Truth is the story of Matt Lawson, an FBI agent and Haley Kenton, investigative journalist for The Sentinel. Matt has recently been assigned to Flynn MacKenzie’s elite FBI task force. Matt is given the weekend off and expected to report to the office on Monday. Meanwhile, a woman, Sabrina Lin, is found murdered on a bridge on a trail in a local park on a Friday evening and Matt’s name and phone number are in her pocket. A woman is seen driving away from the scene and the office’s IT genius, Derek is able to determine that it is Haley. Matt goes to Haley’s apartment of Saturday morning. Haley reveals that Sabrina set up the meeting to tell her about new information she discovered about the death of Haley’s brother, Landon six years ago. Shortly after arriving at the meeting site, Sabrina is killed but does not reveal that she took Sabrina’s cell phone from the murder scene. Haley confirmed to Matt that she was the 911 caller. When the cell phone rings Matt realizes that it is Sabrina’s and threatens Haley with obstruction of justice charges. As Matt and his team investigate Sabrina’s murder and how that it related to the accidental drowning of Landon and the cover up. When driving home after meeting with Landon’s friend, Arjun “A.J.” Patel, Haley is nearly run off the road. Fortunately, Matt was following behind her. Haley’s apartment is ransacked, and Matt takes her to his apartment. After attempts were made on the lives of two people associated with Landon, Haley and Matt are moved to a safe house. As Haley and Matt continue to investigate Landon’s and Sabrina’s death trying to determine who from Landon’s past at Westbridge University and his fraternity are responsible for their deaths and behind the events currently taking place. I love the easy banter of the conversations between them that flow so easily, and the secrets that Haley and Matt share with each other, especially the details that each of them share about their childhoods. As they continue to spend time together, things change between them. I loved how the relationship between Matt and Haley changes them, and that they are both willing to take a chance at love, even though initially they thought it would only last until the end of the case. As they close in on solving the case an unexpected plot twists puts Haley’s and possibly the lives of Matt and his team in danger. I love how they solved the mystery of Landon’s and Sabrina’s deaths, all the other crimes that were committed, and how the plot twist was resolved. I love the ending of Haley and Matt’s love story, and the changes that Matt is willing to make in his career to have a life with Haley. I love how all the loose ends get tied up and the revelation of who was behind all the events in the book, especially the deaths of Landon and Sabrina. I love the birthday gift that Haley discovered from Landon in the boxes with his personal belongings that she had in storage and the gift’s role in solving the case. Glad that Landon’s mystery project got into the right hands and was being used for good. The epilogue was the perfect ending of Haley and Matt’s love story, especially the surprise that is revealed. I love how Barbara Freethy somehow manages to find the "perfect" heroine, who is a strong woman on her own, to balance out the career focused FBI agent. Shattered Truth is filled with heartbreaking and heartwarming moments. Shattered Truth is filled with everything that I have come to love and expect in a Barbara Freethy romantic suspense love story, especially the poignant and bittersweet moments, plot twists and surprises that filled this page turner. Shattered Truth had me guessing throughout the story as to who was behind the riveting events that took place in this story. The identity of who was behind the events in this story and the reasons behind it was truly a surprise when it was revealed. I enjoy how the book is told from the perspective of the main characters. I love getting the insight and feelings from the different characters. I love all the characters and the way Barbara describes the locations in Los Angeles and the surrounding areas. Reading Shattered Truth felt like a family reunion; I loved catching up with the other FBI agents in the series who assisted Matt in this case. It was an amazing story, and I highly recommend it. I received an advanced copy from the author.

Shattered Truth by Barbara Freethy is one of the lovely suspenseful romantic thriller novels. The combination of the events and people made it suspenseful. The cruelty of the participants and their purposeful choices made it a thriller. The characters, who trusted no one, managed to forge a strong relationship that made it a romance.

Barbara Freethy’s newest book, Shattered Truth is the fifteenth book in the Off the Grid series. The books can be read as a stand-alone. (I have done this.) There are repeating characters, but the main story is usually with newer people who have joined (or at least one) the FBI. There is an elite FBI unit that operates in a more independent manner compared to the rest of the FBI.

Matt Larson has just been asked to join this elite group. He is excited by the prospect, but not expecting that he had to start early because a dead person has his name and number in her pocket. He does not know her, nor does he know how she would have gotten his number.

Haley is determined to discover why her brother died 6 years ago. She has balanced her job as a newspaper writer and finding her brother’s murderer. She is positive he was murdered and it was not an accident. As she goes to meet a woman who has information for her, she sees the woman killed right in front of her. She picks up her phone and runs away, later calling the police.

Suffice to say Matt finds Haley and the phone. Soon both of them are caught in the murder past and present. Some of the characters they question are so sure that they are above the law, that you might cringe. I sure did. More people are being attacked. Haley’s apartment was broken into. This is when the plot line starts to ramp up and things start to pile up.

I like Barbara Freethy books and I enjoy her characters. I was not thrilled with the “conflict” as to be honest, it was nothing I am usually interested in. However I didn’t put the book down so we can say it certainly kept my attention. Shattered Truth by Barbara Freethy was a good book.

I have enjoyed this series from the beginning and this new installment did not disappoint. While this is part of the FBI Series, it could be read as a standalone story.

Haley is a reporter following a lead on a cold case of the death of her younger brother, Landon. She arrives at the meeting spot only to witness the murder of her source. The killer has fled and so has Haley, but soon after, there are enough leads by the FBI to catch up with her. FBI Agent, Matt Lawson, has found her at her home and he has many questions. He soon discovers that she has evidence, and he leverages that information to gain information from her. The two realize that they can help each other, if only they can trust one another.

Haley's brother was in college when he died and part of a fraternity. His death was ruled an accident and Haley never felt convinced that was true, but the investigation was wrapped up quickly. The fraternity brothers are back on her radar as potential suspects. They are uncovering "puzzle pieces" that hasn't revealed the big picture yet, but realize they are getting close to the answers as people are getting hurt or worse.

They have a break in their search for the truth and soon Matt and Haley are starting to see how deep the investigation is going. While they are trying to thwart danger, they are finding themselves attracted to each other and the chemistry is off the charts. Can Matt keep his promise to protect Haley at all costs? Can Haley's instincts keep Matt out of danger? You will have to read to find out.

The series has a fast pace, and this story had so many potential suspects that kept you guessing until the end. Another adrenaline fueled ride.

Haley is a reporter who lost her brother years ago and has never had closer with it. She felt he was murdered and the investigation ended to soon or was a cover up for something because it was deemed an accident. The facts have never made sense to her so when she gets a call that someone wants to meet her and has information regarding her brother's death, she goes. Before she can talk to the person, Haley sees her go down. When she goes to her she finds she's been shot with what can only be described as a poison dart. She ends up with an FBI agent, Matt, at her door asking questions. Matt has just changed jobs within the FBI and gets called into this case before his actual start date because the victim had his name in her pocket. As much as Matt would like Haley to stay out of things, he finds the investigative reporter in her won't let that happen and truthfully, she's good at getting facts and tracking people down. Together they work to get to the bottom of what really happened the night her brother passed, that means lots of time together and danger as well. There's an attraction and Matt knows he shouldn't mix business and pleasure, but the attraction is strong. The more they uncover of the past, the more they realize there are lots of players involved and there seems to be a timeline that is soon coming up. Will they beat the clock? I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving my review.

Couldn’t put it down

As usual, author Barbara Freethy grabbed my attention from the first page of “Shattered Truth” and never let go. “Shattered Truth” is No. 15 in Freethy’s Off the Grid FBI series and one of my favorites of all of them.
The mystery — both the current crime and a possible past one — are well-crafted to provide numerous suspects and motives. The clues for both are all present, but are peeled back in an intriguing way to keep readers guessing until the end.
I enjoyed the two main characters. Matt Lawson has just transferred into the special FBI task force that Off the Grid readers already know. In fact, he catches a case the day BEFORE he is to start. Haley Kenton has been dealing with the tragic death of her younger brother for more than five years. A new lead puts her in danger and in Matt’s orbit.
Both Haley and Matt are damaged (the best main characters must have flaws) with every reason to neither get close nor depend on the other. Emotions come into play early, and I enjoyed watching their relationship develop despite their very logical reasons to try to stop it.
Although the first few titles in Off the Grid were linked because of characters connected in their pasts, the remaining titles all standalone and can be read in any order. If you want to try the series, “Shattered Truth” is an excellent title to start with.

Shattered Truth is another great addition to the Off the Grid: FBI series. When journalist Haley Kenton goes to follow a lead about her brother’s death, she ends up witnessing a murder herself. FBI Special Agent Matt Lawson is assigned to the case, and when it becomes clear Haley would go off on her own to investigate, he decides to work with her. What follows is an action-packed page turner as they realize they stepped into something much larger than a murder investigation.

It was clear early on who the players were, but not why they did what they did. I normally prefer stories where it’s not so clear who was involved with the crimes, but I didn’t mind in this case because there was enough mystery revolving around the why.

I felt the romance took a bit of a back seat to the investigation, but I liked that it wasn’t rushed, and they took the time to get to know each other despite everything they were dealing with. They were a great pair, both as investigative couple, and as a romantic couple.

If you’re looking for a good romantic suspense, you can’t go wrong with any of the books from the Off the Grid: FBI series. If you haven’t read the previous books, you can jump right into the series with this one; they work well as standalones.

What a ride! This is book #15 in the series, but don’t worry—you can absolutely dive in without having read the others.

We meet Haley, a journalist in the middle of working a story, when she suddenly gets a call that changes everything. A woman claims to have new information about Haley’s brother’s mysterious death six years ago. Desperate for answers, Haley rushes to meet her—only to witness the woman’s shocking murder right before her eyes.

Enter Matt, an FBI agent just back from a break, who finds himself thrown into the case when the victim is discovered carrying his contact information. He doesn’t know her, but he’s determined to find out why she had his details—and what she knew.

As Matt starts digging, old secrets resurface. The murder seems to be connected to the tragedy that claimed Haley’s brother’s life years ago. The deeper they get, the more danger circles around them—and the more undeniable the spark between Matt and Haley becomes.

This book has everything I love in a romantic thriller: fast-paced suspense, intriguing twists, and a romance that builds right alongside the danger. I couldn’t put it down!

What a great story! This book is the 15th in the series, but it can easily be read as a stand alone. Haley is a journalist working on a story who stopped what she is working on when someone calls her and asks her to meet because they have new information on her brother’s death. Haley rushes off to meet with this woman desperate to get a clue on what happened to her brother 6 years ago. But Haley gets quite the shock when she goes to meet this woman, and watches her get killed right in front of her. Matt is an FBI agent coming off a break when he gets a call that a murdered woman has his contact info in her pocket. Matt has no idea who the woman is, but wants to work to figure out why this mystery woman had his information. As Matt digs into this murder, clues pop up indicating that this current murder might be tied to what happened on a college campus 6 years ago that led to Hayley’s brother’s death. As Matt investigates these two murders, things heat up with the cases and between Hayley and him. This was a wonderful fast paced romantic thriller!

I love Ms. Freethy’s books! This book was suspenseful that kept trying to figure out who was telling the truth, who was good, and who was bad. My heart went out to Haley who was a reporter as her brother was found drowned in a pound six years ago. The police closed the case saying it was an accident. Now six years later there are individuals wanting to meet up with Haley as they told her they had information about her brother. It felt like many of those did not live to tell her about it. That was how she met FBI Special Agent Matt Lawson who was investigating a murder. I was glad Haley told him the truth about what happened recently as well as what went on with her brother. Haley was a strong person who was not afraid to investigate her own leads. Luckily Matt worked with her as she needed protection! I really dislike how people with money who feel that they can make others do what them want and fell superior to others. This was such an exciting book, that I didn’t like to put the book down! I strongly encourage you to read it.

Barbara Freethy writes romantic suspense like no one else. And Book #15 in the Off The Grid series, Shattered Truth, is no exception. Everything about this book had me turning page after page, waiting to see what would happen next.

Haley Kenton is a journalist who lost her brother 6 years ago. While it was ruled an accident, something in Haley's gut told her that wasn't right. When she gets a call after all this time from a lady who says she has information, Haley runs to meet her. But the woman is murdered right in front of her.

Matt Lawson is new to the FBI team and ready to start his first day, but when he gets a call just before he's to start that a woman was murdered and had a paper with his name on it, he's on the case and ready to work.

Haley and Matt made a great team and had undeniable chemistry. This story kept me guessing through all the twists and turns, right up till the end! I've loved every book in the Off The Grid series and highly recommend reading them all! Each story can be read as a standalone or together as part of the series.

Shattered Truth is another great addition to Barbara Freethy’s Off the Grid: FBI series. The action and suspense kick right off from the first chapter and never let up! Journalist Haley Kenton is meeting someone who claims to have new information to share about her brother’s mysterious death six years ago. Before Haley was able to talk with her, the informant was killed right in front of her. FBI Special Agent Matt Lawson has just joined an elite FBI unit and has been assigned to investigate the murder. As Haley and Matt dig deeper, they have to learn to trust each other while unraveling how the two deaths are related.

Barbara Freethy’s ability to blend suspense, emotion, and realism, makes the story feel like it was ripped straight from the headlines. The characters are compelling, the twists are perfectly timed, and the emotional stakes run deep. It doesn’t matter whether you’re a longtime fan of the series or just starting, this book is a fast-paced, satisfying read you won’t want to put down. I hope this series never ends!

No one writes romantic suspense better than Barbara Freethy! And her Off the Grid series (all stand alones) just keeps getting better and better. They each involve an FBI agent assigned to a special unit in Los Angeles, and this book stars Matt Lawson, newly assigned to the team. Scheduled to start work on Monday, he gets called in by his new boss over the weekend when a woman's body is found with his name & phone number among her belongings. That dead body leads him to reporter Haley Kenton, who happened to witness the murder. She was hoping to meet with the woman to get information on an old unsolved murder. Now there are two murders, 6 years apart, and 2 people who reluctantly agree to work together not knowing what they will find. Their journey makes for a page turner, full of interesting twists and turns, as well as an undeniable chemistry between the two. I couldn't put this book down & I think you'll enjoy it too!

Haley Kenton’s brother died six years ago, but she has never bought the explanation the police gave her about how he died. It just doesn’t ring true. But now someone has reached out to her with new evidence. But before the two can talk, the witness is murdered right in front of Haley. She finds herself being questioned by FBI Agent Matt Lawson. At first, he is skeptical, but slowly, Matt begins to buy Haley’s story, and for once Haley has an ally in her search for the truth. With his teams help, Matt and Haley start to dig deeper. What they discover is that all paths forward seem to go back to Westbridge, the college her brother was attending at the time of his death, and the affluent alumni he knew there.
This adrenalin-packed story will keep you on the edge of your seat. The chemistry between Haley and Matt is smokin’ hot and the plot is frighteningly believable. Barbara Freethy is at the top of her game in her latest ‘Off the Grid: FBI’ book.

WOW! Barbara Freethy has done it again! Shattered Truth is the 15th book in this series but can be read as a stand alone book.

What an amazing suspenseful romantic story! Haley is a grief stricken sister who is still searching for why her brother passed away 6 years ago. Haley, an investigative reporter, is asked to meet a woman in a remote area who may have information regarding her brother's death, the woman is killed right in front of her. She runs, when she's a safe distance away, she calls the police.

Matt is an FBI agent who is new to the Elite Group. His name and number is found on the deceased woman who he doesn't recognize. Matt's investigation leads to Haley. Together they investigate both deaths. The chemistry between Matt & Haley is intense and undeniable. The twists and turns of this investigation will have you sitting on the edge of your seat and not wanting to put the book down.

Haley Kenton isn’t convinced that her brother’s death was an accident and she is determined to prove it and find the person or persons responsible. As an investigative reporter she knows how to dig for answers. But, there are powerful people who don’t want the truth to come out. People who have the means to pay someone to see that she is stopped!

FBI Special Agent Matt Lawson is investigating the murder of a woman who had contacted Haley saying she had information about her brother’s death. Before Haley could talk to the woman, she is murdered. When Haley’s name is connected with the murdered woman, she becomes a suspect. Matt and Haley are thrown together in the investigation and become more than investigator and suspect.

Shattered Truth is Book #15 in Barbara Freethy’s Off the Grid: FBI series. Each book can be read as a standalone. I recommend Shattered Truth and this series if you like fast-moving romantic thrillers. Ms. Freethy never disappoints.

Shattered Truth continues Barbara Freethy’s Off The Grid: FBI series and is a tremendous read. Every new one is my next favorite. Agent Matt Lawson is just being assigned to Flynn’s group. He’s not supposed to start until the next week, but a murder in the park has Flynn pull him in earlier. This is where he meets Haley Kenton and the roller coaster ride begins. She’s seen near the scene, but she’s just trying to find out the real truth about her brother’s death six years ago. What is this lethal connection between back then and what’s transpiring now? Was there a coverup? Is something major about to happen and Haley right in the middle of it? Freethy writes each story so you are completely immersed in the mystery, romance and intrigue. I didn’t want to put it down. There were so many well written twists and turns to the plot and a personal aspect in each book. Well done Ms. Freethy. Can’t wait for the next story to be told.

Shattered Truth started out with an adrenaline rush and just kept going. The story is fast-paced, action-packed, and suspense-filled, all the necessary requirements of an excellent romantic thriller. I love Haley and Matt, both very strong, independent professionals in their respective fields. Haley, a journalist, is determined to find answers to her brother, Landon’s death six years earlier. Matt is the FBI agent assigned to another case which intersects with Landon’s death. Together, they begin an adventure that will bring danger to their doorsteps as well as others. If you enjoy romantic thrillers with lots of twists and turns, this book is for you. Barbara Freethy never disappoints.

I love this series and this latest book is every bit as gripping and thrilling as the previous books. In this we see Matt our FBI agent and Haley a journalist embark on a journey of deception, murder, intrigue and twists and turns galore and once you start this, you cannot stop reading. Captivating from the get go as Matt joins the elite FBI squad that we know and love, whilst Haley witnesses her informant be murdered and together they just solve this case. Heartbreaking in places, we find ourselves caught in between the past and the present as we investigate and old murder linked to a new one and it’s also heartwarming as we see Matt & Haley’s relationship grow and develop. It’s a fantastic read and a wonderful addition to this incredible series!

Shattered Truths by Barbara Freethy is not what you expect it to be. A college student died years ago and now his sister thinks there is new evidence to prove it was murder rather than the accident everyone else believes. Seems like a straight forward story, right. Until an attorney is found killed. And you realize how rich and ruthless the suspects are. And how they are covering for each other. And how the fraternity and college they all went to has its fingers in so many pies.
Not so straight forward any more. But much more deadly. Was that original death murder? If so, will the killer be found? And how does that tie into what is going on now?
You are going to have to read the book to find out! I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

Haley is heading to a meeting with someone who claims to have info about her brother’s mysterious death years earlier, but the woman is killed in front of her. The dead woman had FBI agent Matt Lawson’s name and number so he is brought in. Cameras lead him to Haley and together they begin investigating the past and present to not only solve her brother’s past murder, but figure out why all those involved years earlier are now being targeted as well.

Freethy delivers another great mystery with twists and turns that will keep you guessing until the end. The romance is there as well and both are blended together into the story nicely.

Thanks to the author for a review copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Barbara Freethy just knows how to write a suspense romance wonderfully that keeps you on the edge of your seat, second guessing who did what, and turning that page to find out who actually did it! There are always twists and turns, major chemistry, and a guaranteed omg moment in every one of her books and you will never be disappointed.

Book 15 in the Off the Grid FBI series is a great addition to this set of books and brought all you expect from previous books in the series, this one can be read as a stand alone if you just happen to be starting with this book and want to dive right in. You would not be disappointed! Barbara writes amazing characters and worlds that you just want to be a part of and escape to.

Just like a fish, Barbara hooked me once again. A definite page turner with a couple full of determination to find the bad guy(s). Matt and Haley join forces to solve her brother’s mysterious death and stumble on a whole lot of deceit and lies surrounded by nepotism. Matt’s protective nature towards Haley was evident while denying any romantic feelings. Both characters were extremely likable and I appreciated how Matt supported Haley’s independence and strength in her pursuit. However, as the story evolves the chemistry between Matt and Haley escalates and the chance of losing someone they let themselves love increases tremendously.

If you want a book that has suspense, action and romance, this is the one for you. Its part of an amazing series by Ms Freethy and each and every book lives up to the genre. Haley is investigating the strange death of her brother; Matt is an FBI agent investigating why a dead woman had his name on a piece of paper in her pocket. The two are thrown together and literally sparks begin to fly. The characters, as always, are so well written in both the main and supporting cast. With all the twists and turns of the plot its impossible to figure out the final who did it.

If i could give this more stars I would do so. Its amazing and I can't wait for the next in the series.

Shattered Truth is the 15th book in author Barbara Freethy’s Off the Grid series, and it is every bit as intense and engaging as the first 14. Haley believes her brother was murdered six years ago. Matt is assigned the case because his name showed up in an unexpected place. Author Barbara Freethy weaves a tapestry of clues and red herrings into this story, so don’t skip over anything! I really enjoyed the suspense in this story. The characters were well-developed and the storyline was scarily realistic and believable. This fast-paced romantic suspense will keep you up reading late into the night and bring you right back in the morning. A real page turner!

Shattered Truth, part of Barbara Freethy’s FBI series is an adrenaline rush from beginning to end. Investigative reporter, Haley, has never accepted that her younger brother’s death was just an accident. FBI agent , Matt, gets involved after someone who was supposed to have information is murdered right in front of her. Haley has long suspected that Landon’s frat brothers know much more than they’ve revealed because every lead seems to lead back to those men and their university. Ms. Freethy has created a story about a web of corruption that will have the reader as determined to find the truth as Haley and Matt are. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book. Most highly recommend.

Just when I think a book by this author couldn't get any better than the last one, asking comes Shattered Truth. So many different back stories and fascinating details kept my attention rapt from beginning to end. The depths of the characters help the reader empathize, sympathize, romanticize, and even despise. I pride myself on being a reader who rarely cannot figure out how the story's going to end at least midway through the book, but Shattered Truth kept me on my toes up to the end. I love every series by Barbara Freethy but this might be my favorite. This is a must read book but I can't imagine why you would not just read the entire series. Can't wait for her next release.

I love this FBI series! The stories are always a great read, each with their own unique story. This book is no exception. The only complaint I have is that I couldn't stop reading once I started, so it went to fast. The story line was fresh. Haley and Matt come across as genuine, you can relate to them right away. Ms. Freethy has such a wonderful gift of weaving a story. The suspense, a little drama, and mystery, and of course the romance all blend together beautifully to make an intriguing story that moves at a nice pace. To anyone that loves a good fiction book to escape with for a while, you will enjoy this story. Highly recommend!

Great Romantic Suspense

This is a good addition to the series but it really stands alone since you don't have to read the previous books in the series. Haley is trying to find out why someone killed her brother several years ago. Now she's meeting someone who says the she has information about the death of her brother. Just as Haley gets to the meeting place, the informant is killed. She runs but is eventually found by Matt, an FBI agent. I liked how Matt and Haley end up working together and falling for each other. This book has just the right amount of suspense and romance.

Truth at all costs

Haley and Matt. Get ready for danger, action, and romance, but also make sure to pay attention because there are a lot of details and a vast network in this conspiracy that these two are trying to unravel. Old money, relationships, greed, and betrayal are at the heart of this story where the crimes cover multiple years, characters and locations. The FBI is not immune and this elite unit is Haley’s best chance for answers and justice. Great writing and vivid imagery create a unique world and storyline that I sped through. Excited for the spin off news, but also hope to see more of this unit!
