He's not just my boss. He's my mate.

When a billionaire hired me as his assistant, I assumed my new boss would be an arrogant bastard. But I didn't expect to be stripped bare and claimed savagely right there on his desk.

Or to wake up in his penthouse the next morning and discover that he's not just a businessman.

He's an alpha werewolf.

And I'm his mate.

Okay, WTF did I just read? 🤯🫨😵‍💫😵

Alright, I don't think I can fairly rate this book because I've never read this author before and was expecting your normal shifter romance upon research, the twist ending kinda seems like this author's MO? I didn't know that going in, it says dark, but everybody's version of dark is different and so I thought she considered the spanking and the non consensual marking as 'dark' like a good little soccer mom "dark" author and then Bam! 80% and I feel like my fluffy book world collided with my dark book world and my brain exploded.

So...it starts out as a fairly normal shifter book. They meet, fated mates, he takes her on his desk and marks her, she wakes up and finds out she's a wolf for the first time. She's also a light color wolf which in their culture means that she's a "dilute" or basically like a mudblood type situation, not pure wolf. So he's super sweet and caring to her and says it doesn't matter and he's going to love her no matter what and then he takes her to meet his pack and they're all snobby and judgmental, just like you'd expect and she runs away back to her home with her abusive aunt and uncle. The H comes and finds her and says he loves her no matter what and he doesn't care what anyone else says or where she's from or who her parents are. She's been abused and unloved her whole life, so she finally starts to trust him. Meanwhile, his brother and another wolf lady are scheming in the background and look up her heritage and find out she's NOT a half-blood, she's actually the daughter of the only known white wolf who happens to be a Russian assassin. Up to this point, I was loving this book! It had the right amount of sex with the dynamics I enjoy and it was just exactly what I was hoping for. Suddenly, at 80% the H COMPLETELY changes. He's suddenly convinced she's a honeypot spy and let's them put her in chains and strip her naked and they interrogated her for weeks and he's keeping her down there saying he doesn't know if he can trust her and then one day she's like "How long are you going to keep me? You know I haven't betrayed you, you know I'm not evil, wtf?" and he has a moment of clarity and realizes the brother has been manipulating him (it was obvious from the beginning) and trying to take his place. So he breaks her out(which, wtf he's the alpha!? Why would he have to do this?) and as they're coming out his brother stops him and says 'I can't let her leave, we're actually going to sacrifice her and research her blood.(Jesus Christ man!) H is like "nope, not happening" They fight he wins and...you'd think he'd go back to the pack and expose this horrible woman and his brother for their treasonous ways, the pack realizes they were assholes, they all beg forgiveness and welcome her with open arms. Yeah, that's what I wanted to happen. What actually happens is he decides his entire pack (who he's the alpha of) is just a bunch of assholes and they go on the run with a warrant out for his arrest for the murder of his brother (what? Since when have shifters used human authorities?) at 94% of the book. They're hiding out in a hotel room when there's a knock on the door. It happens to be her dear old dad who abandoned her to her abusive family for years, he acts all friendly and nice and happy to see her and she's like 'fuck off you abandoned me" Does he give her a good reason? Beg for forgiveness? Nope, not this book! He lunges at her and holds a knife to her throat and says he's not afraid to kill her if she can't be respectful. He then slips back into his friendly mask and tells them he's offering to start them over in Russia. He and the H decide that's what they're gonna do, despite her protests. The H basically tells her he's the man and he decides or something. They get on the plane, and the dad is basically like "You can hate me, that's fine, idgaf, this is Russia" she says fuck you and he laughs and she laughs and the H comes along and this is how the book ends:

"Cain slaps my ass, hard enough to get my attention, and the laugh dies on my lips. I realize in this moment, that Cain is just as dangerous as Ivan. Perhaps even more so. Cain has lived his entire life thinking that he was one of the good guys, but he’s not anymore. He’s a very bad man. At this moment, I am surrounded by very bad men. I have never been so loved. And I have never been so safe."

What...the fuck? Seriously WTF! That's not romance! Maybe I read the tags wrong, but that is a horrible ending! There are so many loose threads just flopping in the wind! What happened to that bitch Isabella? What happened to her mom? What happened to the rest of her family? He never apologized for flipping the script and turning his back on her and she was all "I'll get my revenge!" and then she just flies off to Russia? I...I'm so confused! I think my real issue is that I'm not familiar with this author and didn't realize what I was reading and my mind just can't catch up 😂 So, I guess take that as you will and be more prepared than I was!

Absolutely Not!!I'm gonna give you fair warning about this book. Negative 5 stars!!

I have no idea why this book got any 5 stars other than maybe author loyalties. I have no such loyalties as this is my first and last time reading her stuff. I originally reviewed this as a DNF. Like an idiot, i kept going. Absolutely not. Absolutely not. ABSOLUTELY NOT. This book is Absolutely horrible. I warn the crap outta you. There is Absolutely no love in this book. This is not a romance. I don't even know why they're calling it that. It starts off ok. It drastically becomes horrible quickly. I kinda like the FL, but I never liked the ML. Then the author threw in more people to dislike. Not one redeeming quality amongst them. The ML actually becomes misogynistically worse throughout the story. ALL his decisions are an obsessive possessive controlling, "you're mine and you'll do what I say or I'll spank you" brick to the face. The mate bond is used to make the FL into a caged mate. She has no say, no rights, no choices. She completely treated like crap even by her "loving" mate. Dont get me wrong, she does become stronger towards the end but shes set in her ways she never changes anything in her life and just flows with whomever is in charge. In the beginning, I hoped it would get better. It only gets worse. WORSE. I am not kidding you. The end is so out of whack that there is NO HEA, the liars. She basically let's her mate and her monster father choose her life for her because they're monsters but they both love her. If you've ever been in an abusive relationship or are just...IDK...sane, you should seriously reconsider reading this book. I wish I'd have stopped when I said I was, but no. Every book plateaus out and gets better. Love conquers all. I still feel that way but there is NO love in this book.

Not what I was expecting

This book has all the hallmarks of a fantastic story. The characters are amazing, the storyline is fantastic, the author kept me on the edge of my seat and didn’t relent on the high intensity. The book culminated in an amazing scene, but then the ending fizzled. The hero didn’t win the day. The pack wasn’t put in their place and forced to see the error of their ways. There wasn’t a new era of calm and balance in the ruling pair. Nope the spoiled brats got away with trying to control their alpha and a plot twist left me wanting more than the ending brought me.

rolling my eyes

Where to begin lol

The names. Cain and Abel. Already a foreshadowing there.

Kira’s characterization. First she’s a determined young woman, then she’s a simp, then a traumatized girl, then a bad girl… they’re all compartmentalized. All these parts of her don’t seem to be written seamlessly into KIRA. Plus there’s a question about her name. Is she really called Kira Smith? Her aunt calls her something else.

Also it seems to be very deus ex machina for that ending. Very unsatisfying.

Cain was a major walking red flag and not the “forgivable red flag because alpha book boyfriend” kind of red flag. He was at the start very attentive but he’s not very smart, which makes me wonder how he ever became alpha.

Blurb got me excited thinking this was a dark shifter story but this was pretty laughable honestly.

I mist say though: Good premise, bad execution.

This was less bizarro/OTT than I expected from a Loki Renard book (although there was still spanking), and was more like a ‘standard’ paranormal.

The FMC’s first day as assistant to a billionaire ends with her being claimed and discovering that she’s an alpha werewolf’s mate, and the MMC was actually quite sweet towards the FMC (but there was still spanking 😆).

I wish the plot was tighter though. It started off well but then started to feel convoluted, and the momentum kind of petered out near the end.

Appalling waste of time

"But I ran away to do crime."

Once this line dropped, I knew there was no turning back. I could feel the Tubi quality level dripping off the pages. This book is just bad. Not bad in a fun, delightful way. Not bad in a campy way. It's just bad in a poorly composed way.

The 👎🏾:

🙄 The plot was horrible. It slides one one point to the next with tenuous connection of concepts.

🙄 characters were just badly drawn empty spaces given poor dialogue.

The "hero" speaking on the pack mean girl, "truth is, we all feel sorry for her. All her younger sisters found mates in their early 20s. Isabella is 25 and slowly going mad with unrequited desire. " 😒😑🤦🏾‍♀️

🙄The FMC is supposedly 23 yo but they mention she could have been born in the 90s 😮‍💨🙃

🙄The conflict felt like a juvenile wattapad story that sprang up randomly around 50%. The next big conflict was just so WTF in absurbity like a poorly crafted Mel Brooks joke getting more and more outlandish

🙄 The sex scenes read as immature and cheesy(vaguely written and quick. Lacking good solod details).

"I feel as though I was made to be f♡cked by him, as if destiny is being fulfilled when his c0ck enters me." 😮‍💨

I was disappointed and unimpressed as it couldn't even be a fun, guilty pleasure read by an author with a large catalog. The final conflict leading to cliffhanger felt like a poorly written Pay-Per-Chapter installment 😢

What happened to Loki Renard?

This author used to be pretty good. Lately, I can’t finish anything she writes.

All tell, very little show. It’s actually quite awful.

Terrible dialogue.

Uninteresting MCs.

Clearly not line-edited. Typos, grammar and punctuation errors galore.

What a depressing read. They were so cruel to her...even her mate. To top it all off, it had a terrible ending. I must remember never to read anything by Loki Renard ever again,

potential to be good

This is the second time I’ve read this book because when I read the summary, I don’t remember it. But reading it again reminded me of why I forgot it. The beginning was good. The middle was so so and that ending basically didn’t do anything. The story didn’t reallydevelop the characters as it could’ve been nor the storyline. Book number two in the series does not hold any kind of interest for me since it’s coming from the same author. It could’ve been great.

Please give me the time I wasted reading this book back.

Absolutely terrible book. 100% worst things I've read. Plot happened so fast. Ive read a lot of shifter books and this has to be the worst of them all. Would give zero stars if I could.

Kira made it to the top. She was able to land herself a job as the Personal Assistant to Cain Lupin of Lupin Industries and CEO. Cain goes through assistance like water. He is dominating and wants things his way. He certainly didn’t expect to have his mate thrown in his lap. The chemistry is hot and instant. But one encounter unleashes who Kira truly is inside. Cain has to not only tame her but find out who the woman is. From the beginning things heat up fast. When we find out about Kira and her makeup, I wasn’t too happy with how his clan acted. It certainly didn’t get any better when they meet her. These two are perfect and you think ok we are going to get a happy ending but then BAM, we do a 180. I could not believe what was happening. I was mad for Kira and wanted to scream. She is nothing but sweet and kind. She just wants to get out of her horrible life and be normal. When I read that his brothers name was Abel, I knew where we might go. There is a fine twist to the story and you aren’t sure which is worse. This had me on the edge of my seat at the end.

If you were expecting the same level of spicy as other Loki dishes, this would rate more toward the medium than the fiery range. It was more of a mellow story with a lot that never really captured me and got my heart racing like her other stories do.

I don't know if it was because it wasn't as dark of a romance, not that I didn't mind; it was more that it just never came together. The elements were all there for it to be deliciously naughty, but somewhere in the middle of just . . . Well lost momentum? Want what I expected? I don't know. It's not necessarily a bad story, but the build up had me craving more. I just didn't know why some characters were brought in and then almost carelessly abandoned with an ending that made no sense to me based on the type of character the MMC is. You be the judge. It could just be me. I did love the characters though.

Who knew wolves could be snobs?

Poor Kira needed a job for her always in trouble cousin. She was raised by her aunt and uncle after her parents died. She fudged her resumé some and applied has applied for the position of personal assistant. She had no idea who it was for. She asked and found out it was for the CEO of Lupin Industries and he chews through assistances like they are chew toys. Their first meeting she’s to deliver a contract to him. She couldn’t shut her mouth, he’s too good looking. She doesn’t get fired. One look into his eyes and she dizzy, fuzzy headed and horny. She doesn’t know he is a wolf. He interrogates her getting nothing but vague answers. Then realizes she it his mate. On on they go. She is a wolf and doesn’t know it... Well, let’s say the pack is not a happy pack. Kira and Cain have a few adventures. You're going to love this book, I adored it.

good until it wasn’t

For like more than half of the book I was having a good time, but then the plot took a weird turn and resolved really weird at the end. Also, what happened to the whole office part? That was literally only used to get the couple to be introduced and then dropped from the rest of the book.

Anyways, the MMC didn’t really seem like he was into the FMC all that much and only liked her because they were mates and even then, he really didn’t seem to care.

Spice was mid and story was lacking - 2.75⭐️ cause I’ve read worse. Would recommend only if you read a ton of this genre and have some time to spare.

Kira was desperate to get a job to avoid living in her car, but was she going to be able to keep a job with the boss from hell? She is working for Cain Lupin who is attracted to her. After Cain takes Kira in his office she discovers that she is his mate and he has no intention of letting her go. But members of his pack aren't happy. Will he be able to protect her?.

Twists and Turns and then a Clif

Get more than you bargained for in this fast-paced romp. Kira and Cain are fated mates - but that really is only the beginning of the story it seems.
Laced with humour and only a teensy bit of incidental bondage, Loki presents us with an intriguing heroine and her usual chisel jawed hero (with just enough layers to make him an excellent book- mate).
Hope you have part two well on the way for your loyal fans Ms Renard!

Great Read!

I was enraptured from the first page written. I’m sure others have written more complete reviews, so I won’t duplicate anything here. This book ended more abruptly than I would have wished a last chapter to have been, so much so that it screams for a book two as it does not feel finished. I.e. Storylines have not been completed, characters killed abruptly, etc. Hoping there’s a book 2 out there, somewhere…

I initially didn't like the female main character (FMC) and my opinion of her didn't improve by the end. She started off as very meek and submissive, but ended up being quite unpleasant. I really don't like her at all. On the other hand, the male main character (MMC) is strong and devoted to his mate. However, it seems like he lost control of the situation and his pack, and ended up becoming a fugitive.

awful

Okay…I normally love Loki renard books! But I have to be honest this one suck! The writing style is extremely immature like a high schooler wrote it. The timelines don’t make sense and the book is very jumpy.

Spoiler : i’m about to fire her, nope, suddenly doing the deed, right after saying oh no, she’s virgin and we should do it in a bed. Then he does her on a desk in her office. 🤦‍♀️ then the next thing we know she’s a wolf.

Nothing is As It Seems
Kira just wants her new job as Cain Lupin’s assistant to work out so she can have more than four dollars in her bank account. She never thought she’d have her life upended like this… This story has plenty of unexpected revelations and twists, but through it all, it’s a wild ride for Kira and Cain. I was completely gripped by this story and did NOT want to put it down. A thrilling read.

FAN-FREAKING-TASTIC 😁

I found this book that I guess I had for quite a while and didn't remember and I absolutely loved it 😃. Of course I truly LOVE all of Loki's stories but this one is different from the average shifter story 😄. I truly believe everyone can relate to this story in some way, cuz all the heroine wants is to be loved 😍. Thanks again Loki, I can't wait to see what you write next 🤓.

So I did not expect this story to go like this

I started reading this book and put it down. Was under a lot of stress at work so I just came home to mentally exhausted to read. Picked this book up from yesterday and .OMG.... I did not expect this book to turn out like this. The author did an excellent job in creating these characters and the story line. I am definitely going to read another book from this author.

I really enjoyed Kira and Cain’s story. I hope to see more of them because I wasn’t ready to let them go. Kira had no idea how life altering her new job as personal assistant to CEO Cain Lupin would be. Neither did Cain… I received a free copy of this book. This review was posted voluntarily.

This was an intense read. I get that you either love the story or hate it. There doesn't seem to be any middle ground allowed. I loved it, but I'm not enthused about the ending. I'm hoping that there will be another book because there are a lot of threads left dangling. I liked how Kira grew throughout the book and gained strength. I wasn't expecting the ending, but I'm glad there is a HFN.

Yeah no, I was going to DNF it, but I read a lot of reviews about how abrupt the ending was and I was mildly curious. I didn’t like any part of it. This is apparently pretty tame for this author and if that’s the case then I’ll definitely be passing on any more books from this author. Other people obviously enjoyed it but I don’t know anyone I’d recommend it to.

This book made zero sense. It was also grossly misogynistic. No romance just oh your my mate so i love you.

Don't waste your time.

This was the stupidest book I have read in a long time. There was no real ending and there was barely a coherent storyline.

Don't waste your time. I don't know why I wasted mine.
