Bailey has always felt like she didn't belong anywhere and no matter how hard she tries to endure it, life seems to always have other plans. Damned to be alone within a world riddled with hatred and cruelty, she couldn't take it any longer. She felt the magnetic pull of the dangerous yet serene ocean and there was no resisting. She knew it was meant to be, so... she let go. Plunging herself unknowingly into the arms of a breathtaking, vicious creature. A monster that most would run screaming from. Yet, she was captivated the moment she laid eyes on her. The devastatingly beautiful woman could slice you in half with the flick of her wrist, but she's not a true monster. No... in Bailey's world that title goes to the ones that wield sharp tongues, greedy minds, and deep pockets. When she is shown what it's like to truly be cherished and to cherish someone so completely in return, she will learn what it means to really live. The word love will never compare to the bond that will be created, but what is a human to do as the soul match of a ruthless blood-thirsty Siren?
When Serena saw her fall, the entire wretched world stopped spinning, and a numbness settled over every inch of her. After watching over this tempting woman for two entire years, how could she not attempt to save her? How could she stand by and watch something so beautiful sink beneath the waves, never to be seen again? You see, Sirens are flawed. They need blood to survive. They don't save humans, they eat them! But, when she finds herself breaking all the rules and disregarding all that she's ever known for a semi psychotic, ridiculously feisty redhead, she honestly can't find it within herself to care. Serena was captured the moment she lay eyes on her and felt it deep within her damned soul that she was destined to worship everything that Bailey is.
A dark yet witty Sapphic fantasy story with some murdery scenes of some very deserving people (for the most part). Spicy scenes throughout. 18+
Hi, I’m L. J. Powell, and I love crafting dark, adventurous stories with a Sapphic twist. My books explore love, resilience, and defiance, all set in worlds of fantasy, horror, and romance. I’m drawn to writing fierce, passionate heroines who face impossible odds and find unbreakable bonds along the way. When I’m not writing, my wife and I dedicate our time to rescuing animals. As avid rescuers, we’ve opened our home to countless foster animals, and they bring as much chaos as they do joy. It’s this same passion and devotion that I pour into every story I write. Join me as I bring bold characters and unforgettable worlds to life, one story at a time.
This book was so spicy, gruesome yet sweet. What a combination, making this book friggin awesome. Highly recommend having little to no triggers because this is a must-read. I can't wait for book 2!
A bit of a mess, though mostly an entertaining one. The book opens with Bailey, a human, being rescued by the siren Serena after a failed suicidal attempt. Based on the cover and the blurb, I had assumed that most of the novel would be centered around the two falling in love with each other, so I was quite surprised when both fell for each other pretty much the second they met. At first I thought that there wasn’t really anywhere left to go for the story - how wrong I was. Not only is Bailey the sister of a brutal mob boss who keeps sending henchmen, including her abusive ex, after her, but Serena also has to deal with her father being pretty unhappy about her loving a human.
What follows feels like three books rolled into one. Our leads brutally torture rapists to death (which somehow makes the two even hornier for each other), have tons of sex, all the while dealing with a number of underwater fantasy issues. If that sounds appealing, I recommend giving Siren’s Call a shot. If you just want a cutesy interspecies romance, then you might be turned off by the occasionally pretty extreme level of violence.
I didn’t really mind the genre mixing, but I was annoyed by how many of the problems the protagonists face in the last third of the novel were just conveniently solved by magic. There’s barely any setup, so it can feel like wayyy too many happy coincidences at once. There were also a number of spelling mistakes, like waist being spelled as “waste” a couple of times. Some parts definitely needed a bit more proofreading, like two sentences at the beginning of chapter 6 that read: “[…] she inhales sharply. I watch with my mouth open wide as she inhales sharply.” It doesn’t detract too much from the experience, but I still hope that a second edition can iron these errors out.
A 5🌟 for an absolutely mindblowing, 🔥 and sizzling, traumatized past with graphic content. Fated mates drawn to eachother for 2 years before meeting officially, finally meet and all hell breaks loose. Revenge, demolishing demons, our FMC's took their Love to a different kind of level. True Love and found fated soul, will burn down the world to be together. Cant wait for book 2 from brilliant L Powell. You rocked my world 😍
I could not read past about 1/3 of this book. I was hoping the writing would improve, because the premise seemed interesting. It did not. I think the book could have used more editing (waste instead of waist and cum instead of come are two examples). I also felt like there was too much glorified violence, the dialogue and descriptions felt inelegant, and it needed more exposition and character building.
