this book was so beautiful and easy to read. it rly helped me understand salah more deeply and also made me realize that i need to review the english translation for salah again bcz i'm starting to somewhat forget certain meanings of what i say in my prayer (astagfirallah). this book is so beautifully written and rly makes me so grateful to have the obligation to pray 5 times a day. it helped me fall more in love with prayer and how we should treat it more as an opportunity to talk to Allah rather than treating it like a burden. i think this book is a rly good one to read if ur struggling with ur prayer, if u feel distant from Allah or if u don't understand what ur rly saying in ur prayers. this is definitely a book that is filled with beautiful reminders and teachigs abt prayer that is useful for me to revisit especially when times get tough. subhanallah. ❤️❤️❤️
may Allah make it easy for us to gain khushu in our prayers and may our prayers be accepted, Ameen.
quotes: “As to Allah’s kindness and favours upon us, just close your eyes momentarily to appreciate just the gift of sight alone. If we were to count His favours upon us, never will we be able to enumerate them. And sometimes we gripe when a favour has not been granted to us. Don’t we then realize in hindsight, that it was much better for us this way? The denial of this favour, we realize later, was a favour in itself. For Allah has nothing but good.”
“And imagine. When we dare and sin against Him, we sin using the very gifts and blessings He has given us! But out of His love and mercy for us, He continues to guard over us and protect us, even while we’re in the act! You will not find anyone more kind; you will not find anyone more giving. You will not find anyone more worthy of your love than He.”
“Remember this: The sweetness of this life lies in remembering Him, the sweetness of the next life lies in seeing Him! The next time you proceed for prayer, go because you love Him, go because you miss Him and long to be with Him. Feel your heart flutter. Only then, will you be on your way to attaining that inner peace and comfort Salah was prescribed for.”
““ar-Rahman ar-Raheem” declares that Allah’s sovereignty is that of an all- encompassing Mercy [not Wrath]. In this life, He is there for everyone - believers and non-believers, the righteous and the wrongdoers. He feeds, clothes, heals, and provides for all. He’s not quick to punish but provides ample time for people to return to Him – a whole lifetime!”
“Allah does not answer a supplication that comes from an absent/preoccupied heart.”
“This worldly life is full of hardships and aches. We laugh one day, only to cry the next.”
The Prophet said, “The one who does not complete his Ruku [bowing]’ properly, is like one who is starving and eats just a date or two. It does nothing to satisfy his hunger!” Let us then find our comfort and relief in our Ruku’ [bowing] and Sujood [prostration] 17 times each day, we bow...Our love for Allah has to grow with that. And when you love Him, He will love you even more for He is the Most Kind, the Most Generous. And who can ever harm you…when the Creator Himself loves you?
So, where does happiness lie? It lies high above with Allah. So the secret formula goes like this: the closer you become to Allah [The King!], the higher your spirits will rise, and thus the happier you will be! But how do we reach the levels of this great happiness? We must rise closer to that elevation. How do we do that? By lowering ourselves down! Recall the hadeeth.. “He who humbles himself to Allah, Allah raises him.”- raises him in honour, raises him to the place of true happiness! And recall this hadeeth, “The closest a servant ever is to His Lord, is when he is prostrating.” And what does Allah say at the end of Surah al- Alaq? “..Prostrate and draw near [to Allah]”
“Bring yourself down to the ground, to bring yourself closer to The Lord. Prostrate with body, heart and soul.. and taste the sweetest feeling in theworld....Taste the real happiness of this world!”
“So as you prostrate in nearness to Him, try to feel the pleasure Prophet Musa felt. Remember the love you hold for Him. Talk to Him, praise Him, ask Him, unload your burdens at His door, and reach out for the peace that only He can bring.”
“whomever loves to meet/be with his Lord - his Lord also loves to meet/be with him..”
“Call upon Me; I will answer you.” (40:60)
“Say, “O My servants who have transgressed against themselves [by sinning], do not despair of the mercy of God. Indeed, God forgives all sins. Indeed, it is He who is the Forgiving, the Merciful.” (39:53)
Feel a shyness and a shame - We commit much wrong but He continues to be so patient with us and he continues to cover and protect us despite all our transgressions. Allah says, “Certainly will the believers have succeeded - They who during their prayer are humbly submissive.” (23:1-2)
“Most people think Salah is a monologue and have forgotten that our Salah is really a dialogue from beginning to end. Live this dialogue - Feel the other side!”
pre-read: botm for muslim girlies group!!! also it's been a while since i've read an islamic book so i'm excited to start this!!! 💗
I read this sometime last year and I felt that my Salah improved a lot because of it, it's one of those books that I need to re-read regularly. I would recommend this to everyone. It is really well written and goes through the special meanings and unique significance of the actions (which you then become more emotionally connected to) within Salah. It betters your presence of heart and love to Allah SWT in the Salah and it helps you to draw nearer to him.
It's available free from www.quranproject.org. The link below should take you straight to the book: http://quranproject.org/Love-of-Allah... You can read the book from their website, or download it free, or request a free printed copy (but I think you'll need to pay for postage and packaging). They also have a selection of other books available for free.
One of the most impactful reads I've read this year! (Maybe the most impactful one!)
This book, in less than 50 pages, explains the beauty of salah, how much khushu the companions of Prophet ﷺ (May Allah be pleased with them) used to have, but mostly, what each of things we say in salah means and why we say them at those specific parts of salah. Also how we can focus more during salah, and taste the sweetness of it. It was so beautifully explained, and every part was so perfectly approached that when you read it, automatically you start applying to your own salah and feel an increased amount of love towards Allah.
I personally was struggling with keeping my thoughts from going other places, and focus my mind on salah, and didn't quite know what I should think while praying. And learning more about the meanings of things we recite helped me focus more. But, as I mentioned, there is not only translations of everything we say in salah in this book, but how we should feel, how amazing Allah is, and many more.
This review is in no way gonna do justice to this book, so my only advice about this book to every Muslim is: Go and read this! Just read it. It's so short that it wouldn't take much time, and it is so beautiful and informative that, even that time you spend reading it will be more than worth it, and maybe help you fix your salah from now on.
I'm so grateful to Allah that I was able to read this book, and I'm definitely gonna reread this sometime later, insha'Allah. May Allah bless the author, and everyone who participated in writing and publishing of the book. May Allah accept our prayers and allow us to come closer to Him through salah. Ameen.
(5 ⭐️) truly just wow. This completely changed my perspective on salah forever. A perfect book for salah that every Muslim needs to read. It’s short, provides detail, contains Arabic and english translations and is just perfect
I loved this book, it is small and doesn't take much time to inspire you to be a better muslim by improving your Salah. Really an eye opener! It gives the feeling of how significant Salah is in our life and that we must try our best to make it perfect. Here are 3 things that I loved from the book: 1. The step by step explanation of the meaning and true purpose of Salah in each of these steps. It made is so easy to comprehend what we should ponder in each step of our Salah. Ultimately feeling the greatness and significance of this obligatory prayer upon us five times a day. 2. The simplified interpretation of the Surah Al-Fathiha. How it is a guide to us, in asking Allah for whatever we are in need. And also how Allah responds for each verse of the Surah while we recite in our prayers. Really inspiring and really loved the way it affected me to improve my prayer. 3. The fact that I learned so much from such a small book, and it being focused on one of the most important things in the life of a Muslim (i.e. Salah), which is also the first thing that we will be questioned about in the day of judgement. May Allah make us among the people who continuously strive to perfect their Salah. Aameen. You can read the full book review from my blog http://deenplusbook.wordpress.com
“ar-Rahman ar-Raheem” declares that Allah’s sovereignty is that of an all- encompassing Mercy [not Wrath]. In this life, He is there for everyone - be- lievers and non-believers, the righteous and the wrongdoers. He feeds, clothes, heals, and provides, for all. He’s not quick to punish but provides ample time for people to return to Him – a whole lifetime!
And Allah’s Mercy is manifested either through His giving [of favours] or through His withholding of them. And when He sometimes withholds a fa- vour from us, this in reality is the heart of giving, for we have been given of knowledge but so very little to immediately realize the wisdom. Again, it’s a mercy in disguise!
If we knew well the true nature of Allah and the true nature of people, we would prefer without an instant of hesitation to deal with Allah, over hav- ing to deal with people. It suffices us to know that Allah’s Mercy for us far exceeds the mercy of our own mothers for us. So “Alhamdulillah” for the kind of sovereignty He reigns by.
Ask yourself, in which month do you feel you attain the most “khushu’”? It is Ramadhan, isn’t it? And during which time in Ramadhan, specifically? It is during the Taraweeh or night prayers, right? And in which segment of those prayers, in particular? It is during the dua at the end - where everyone raises their hands together and repeats a unified “Ameen” behind the Imam. That’s when the eyes swell with tears and the sobs echo throughout the Masjid. Why at that moment do we feel the Khushu’? What is different in this segment of the prayer? This is because at this moment, you suddenly feel that you are actually talking to Someone.. You realize that you are conversing with Allah directly! There- fore, to live these precious moments and achieve the needed Khushu’ not just once a year, but in each and every Salah you perform everyday, feel with your total being that you are: Talking to Him - Addressing Him - Conversing with Him. Most people think Salah is a monologue and have forgotten that our Salah is really a dialogue from beginning to end.

A lovely short and sweet book. Really inspiring and really helpful when it comes to understanding *why* we say every phrase that we do in salah. I loved it!
Beautiful reminders about Salah. Alhamdulilah this has helped me so far in being more intentional about my focus during Salah, and has helped me in time of struggle with being consistent in my prayers/prayer times.
The only critique I have is that there are some matters discussed that have to do with fiqh, but there is no specific indication of which schools of thought abide by those ideas. For instance, whether to put the hands or the knees down first during Salah. Some madhhabs abide by the knees going down first, but this book suggests that only the hands should be placed down first. Something to keep in mind!
Also, there are some sentences that were hard to understand either because of a spelling error or grammar issue. I think I only saw one or two of each, but I still take that into account!
I recommend this book, especially if you are struggling in any way with your Salah. This book helped me realize once again the importance of Salah and the importance of intention. JazakumAllahu khairan to the authors/publishers for making this accessible online!
This book has allowed me to truly appreciate what a wonderful gift of salaah Allah has bestowed upon us. It provides helpful commentary on improving concentration in every single aspect of the prayer. I can see myself returning to this work again and again when my concentration needs to be improved. I would love to give this book a 5 star rating, however, references to sources such as hadiths and scholarly opinions were not cited in the text. Despite that, I have benefitted tremendously from this short but concise book. I highly recommend this read to all Muslims who seek to perfect their prayers.
"Salah is Allah’s greatest gift to us. In it is the peace and true happiness that we all yearn and search for." Bless everyone who made this and distributed this book for free; it is such a meaningful and important read as Muslims. The prayer distinguishes us, and knowing the true meaning is what we should always remind ourselves of. I will be coming back to this monthly, if not weekly!
Gotta feed the soul sometimes, you know? I'm going to need to reread this every once in a while. Listened to it as an audiobook from http://www.quranproject.org/
This expansion on the meaning of the parts of Salah and its ritual actions are profoundly helpful. While the book is short, it sites many other sources and provides the Arabic, the transliteration, and basic English translation of the prayer text. I felt the book underlined the basic teaching of the Glorious Qur'an and the importance of prayer as a dialogue and relationship with Allah. The expressions here and the additional sources are quite beautiful.
The book is composed of several short presentations and discussions of the parts of Salah. While the book can be read in one sitting, readers will want to revisit certain sections as they seek more to give in their Salah and more to receive.
I recommend this book not only for those who pray Salah but for any interested in prayer, connection to the divine, as well as in Islam, and interfaith understanding.
I have been looking for a book that guides on internalizing the meaning of salah. This book has delivered it compactly followed by a few words about adhan and wudu'. Some outlook narratives are given to re-examine our perspective on salah, which are quite a soul opener and new to me.
Definitely would recommend this book at least to read it once in a lifetime to anyone, who seeks to feel peace and happiness in salah.
This book is so so helpful and so important. It really helped me remember what salah REALLY means and why we pray. After reading this, I appreciate salah a lot more. This is going to be one of those books I’ll read regularly as a reminder. I highly recommend it to anyone who feels like salah is a chore.
great book. as soon as you start reading it gets you. it helps by giving advice on how to stay focused and the importance of salat. I loved it. it's a short read and was quite disappointed when it came to the end
This book helps one to self reflect over their Salah. Left me in total tears and an utter loss of how I might have been abusing the privilege granted to me by the Most Merciful, Allah. I’d recommend every Muslim to read this book.
A beautiful book which only a person who is desirous of gaining the Will of Allah will appreciate it. Its a passionate book about man his Creator. A must must read for all Muslims or someone who wants to convert to Islam.
Great book! Would read this over and over again. It’s true that you will be more khusyu’ and focus in your prayers when you know the meaning behind your salah.
