ROBERT ANDERSON was born in Rapid City, South Dakota, in 1964. He grew up outside of Minneapolis and attended the University of Minnesota. He came to New York in 1986 and lived for many years in Times Square residential hotels–the Vigilant, the Woodward, and the St. James–while working as a cook and writing. His first book, the short-story collection Ice Age, won the University of Georgia Press’s Flannery O’Connor Award in 2000.
A beautifully written book that encompasses the hardships of life, love and marriage. Written from the perspective of Jack, a husband and man navigating a marriage that has expired in the eyes of his wife, Cat. However, the author goes much deeper and hits on human experience, emphasizing how difficult emotion can be. This book was both painful and healing, coming at a much needed time. It was easily relatable in all aspects, and moved me immensely, bringing some comfort to my own experience.
