In the emotional No-Go zone of unrequited love, Cupid and Psyche are battling it out. Jay, mid-thirties and comfortable with the single life, finds her world turned gloriously upside down when she falls in love. But Lucy, the beloved, is mid-forties, divorced, devoted to her only son and has never even kissed a woman before. Jay is the woman who won't take no for an answer; Lucy, mistress of the endless maybe. The corks of the pink champagne bottles pop aplenty as the wooing gets ever keener. Sly and funny by turn, Jay Loves Lucy describes a rite of passion, from love's first flutter to its fall and in so doing paints a painful portrayal of opposing sensibilities.
This was a great little book. It reminded me what the 80s/90s were like. I remember lesbians like that! I didn't really spend much time with them and didn't really like the characters in this book either. Despite that, the book was great. It reminded me of one of the golden rules- Never fall in love with a straight woman, it'll end in tears. Lucy is a great depiction of a self-centred, arrogant, emotionally inept, soul-sucker. Just awful. Say no and keep to it! Terrible woman. As for Jay, utter idiot. She makes being in love a ridiculous comedy of nonsense. And then she puts her craziness on the next poor sucker she meets. So yes overall, a great ode to codependency. Thank the goddesses not all women are like this.

Odd book... good sometimes, moments of awesome, a lot of bad... kind of bipolar too. The diary bits were plainly stupid and time leaped around so much without much explanation. Diary aside, the first three quarters or so were pretty decent. But then the ending was all over the place and who the hell is Astrid?!
Loved the prologue with the Mammoth but I can't see what that had to do with anything! 2 1/2 stars, rounded up to 3 because it wasn't too painful and some parts were quite fun.
(PS. I didn't read this in German, but the English cover is so butt-ugly. xD)
