With both the police and the ruthless group of mercenaries on their trail, Carrie and Spider venture deep into LA’s gang territory, where she must trust her mysterious protector and his friends to keep her alive. Their enemies will stop at nothing to keep Carrie from revealing vital secrets to the authorities. As they begin to fight back, Carrie learns that Spider is not just a janitor after all. In fact, he is a very dangerous man, with a few dark secrets of his own. The following is based on an eARC generously provided by the authors to Horror After Dark in an exchange for an honest review of the novel.

As unfair as the comparison might be, I could not help but think of the 1995 film, Fair Game, as I read All The Devils. Both feature a beautiful woman who witnessed something she wasn't meant to see, then being rescued and protected by a hero while numerous "bad guys" are on their trail, trying to bring them both down. Thankfully, Harry Shannon and Steven W Booth's novel is a damn sight better than the William Baldwin and Cindy Crawford film, but the similarities are there - even if Spider Walsh never does grab two guns and dive into a body of water firing merrily while a boathouse explodes majestically behind him...

A straight-down-the-line thriller with very little flab to be found, All The Devils is a fast paced read that is easily devoured in two or three sittings. The cliche of a novel being hard to put down applies here as Carrie and Spider try to keep ahead of the ill-informed authorities while piecing together the plot behind the murder of Carrie's boss. Spider is painted as a mysterious protector who has a hidden past that is only barely sketched in; yet (somewhat conveniently) this past is what saves the duo time and again. On this level, All The Devils is a little frustrating, as the reader follows Carrie's POV for the vast majority of the novel, allowing Spider's inner workings to remain enigmatic. In fact, the novel almost reads like an introduction to a Spider Walsh series - or perhaps even a fill-in adventure from another series of novels focusing on the character.

The writing is solid, the plot not without a few interesting turns, but the characters (Spider excepted) all feel stock standard. For example, the beautiful damsel who isn't quite as helpless as she first appears, the catoonishly bad antagonist, and his psychotic twin lackeys. Without straying into spoiler territory, I should add I appreciated the denouement, but the climatic chase scene and action-based finale were somewhat unsatisfying

All in all, fans of fast-paced thrillers featuring good guys on the run from bad guys should get a kick out of this one.

3 to 3.5 Badly Behaving Congressmen for All The Devils.

From a quote from William Shakespeare's The Tempest - Act 1, Scene 2. "Hell is empty and all the devils are here."

For the last few years, I've been reading zombie stories from Harry Shannon & Stephen W. Booth and loving every minute of it. If you've never read the 5 books in the Penny Miller series, The Hungry, you should make plans to correct that soon.

Now, without the help of any undead, these same two writers have teamed up to give us the fast-paced, adventure thrill-ride that is All the Devils.

The underlying premise for this story is straight from today's headlines. Genetically modified foods are certainly big business, but big enough to kill a sitting U. S. Congressman to insure passage of a bill to allow the fictional Montrose Corporation to use genetically altered corn?

Congressional aide, Carrie Young, is not who she seems to be, but then neither is the office janitor. Together, they are running from the authorities and those responsible for the Congressman's death while trying to learn exactly what is going on.

Filled with believable, yet frightening characters, All the Devils is like a shot of adrenaline to a tired body. A page turner from beginning to end. There are more twists and turns than a back country road and a surprise ending I should have seen coming, but didn't.

Generally, thrillers are not my favorite genre, but with the writers involved in this project, I decided to take a chance and I'm very glad I did. I think if you give it a shot, you might like it as well.

From Genius Book Publishing, All the Devils is available now through Amazon.com.

Highly recommended.

In the blink of an eye, Carrie Young goes from being a political aide working for a corrupt Congressman to running for her life. Carrie walks in on an assassin after he has just killed the Congressman and she immediately becomes the next target. When Carrie tries to escape she runs into the seemingly mild mannered janitor, Spider Walsh. Spider springs into action and Carrie quickly learns there is more to him than meets the eye. Carrie must trust this stranger as they are pursued by a team of professional and deranged killers. They rapidly discover whoever wants them dead is not only powerful but has a reach that is far and wide. They will stop at nothing to make sure Spider and Carrie end up dead. The two will have to work together to figure out how to expose their adversaries, but will they live long enough to? This fast paced thriller keeps you hooked from page one. It’s action packed and the surprises keeps coming.

Oh.My.Gosh!!!! This book had me on the edge of my seat from the Prologue to the very end. Very hard to put down for work, and sleep. I was told by a dear friend that it gets better the deeper into the story that you go, and I remember thinking there's no way it could get better.....BUT IT DID! I think I may have just found my new Thriller Authors. Thank you so much to Harry Shannon and Steven Booth for a really fantastic read. Great book, AMAZING read, and I highly recommend it. L. Brees

I like to read apocalyptic and post-apocalyptic fiction and space opera. I'm a fan of the authors' Sheriff Penny Miller series. When I started reading "All the Devils", I couldn't stop. The story was fast-paced and the characters were alive. I enjoyed it until the end. I give it 5 stars!

Intense

This story opens with action and stayed on point to the denouement. The intensity kept me glued to the events and turning pages. The authors delivered on their promise. This is a true thriller.

Received copy in exchange for honest review

This book had me hooked from the very beginning with its interesting characters that I fell in love with. I don't tend to read thriller books because I don't think I would enjoy them but this one has changed my mind on the genre. Such a action packed read!! I can't wait to read more from Harry Shannon.
